ILife/iPhoto '06 vs '08

With '06 I could send a slideshow to IDVD with music and Ken Burns effect and it would save the slideshow as a Quicktime movie file. With '08 I cannot get a Quicktime movie with the Ken Burns effect either by sending it to iDVD or exporting it to my desktop.
How do I get the Quicktime movie file that I can share with friends/family that has music and Ken Burns? I'm sure it's easy but I just can't find out how.
Thanks much.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are using the slideshow button in the bottom toolbar to create the slideshow before sending to iDVD, right? You can also create a slideshow by clicking on an album and hitting the play button at the lower left. Sending that to iDVD will only send the photos.
Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPod Touch 64GB activated October 2013 - how do I get the free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps?

I purchased (from an authorised seller - Dixons Duty Free, Heathrow) and activated an iPod Touch 64GB on 18th October 2013 (prior to the announcement of free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps but after the 1st Sepember 2013 date in their conditions). It had iOS6 preinstalled. I've updated to iOS7. How do I get the free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps? The App Store is trying to charge me for theese.

Problem solved from information found in another thread....
If your iOS device was activated for the first time after September 1, go to the App Storeon your iPod which should open to Featured. If not, tap on Featured at the lower left of the screen & scroll down to Collections & tap on New to the App Store? then scroll down to Apps Made by Apple & tap. You should now see the iWork & iLife apps as "FREE."

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • No iLife, iPhoto and Garage Band on Mac OS X Lion?

I recently installed mac os x lion. Before that I had Snowlepord with all iLife,iPhoto and garage band app. Now on new lion OS I don't have any of those. Do I need to download them again ?

You shouldn't have lost any apps unless you did a fresh install and didn't have a backup.
Were they preloaded, via retail disc or did you purchase through the app store?
If preloaded, find the discs that came with your mac, those apps will be on the 2nd disc
For retail, find the DVD and reinstall
For the app store, go to the purchased tab and reload.

You need to be using Snow Leopard or Lion to run the current version of iPhoto.

  • Why I don't receive app iwork, ilife, iphoto free when actived Iphone 5

Why I don't receive app iwork, ilife, iphoto free when actived Iphone 5 (Serial my device : F17L7PQ0F8H4)

    1) Go to  App Store or  SETTINGS>>iTUNES & APP STORES
    2) Sign out
    3) Sign back in
    4) Then search the iWork applications on the app store to see if its free. I read that this is an effective way to 'activate' the free apps.

  • How can I get ilife (iphoto/imovie) on my Used Retina ... Previously purchased new mbp 17 and have an Imac 27....

Well I just purchased another Retina mbp 15 and this ones a keeper (sold 2 before this was just looking for a mint one).  Now my issue is I cant get ilife (in particular imovie and iphoto) without purchasing it and I dont want to do that.... yet.
I did purchase a brand new mbp 17 in 2010 but not sure if I registered it or logged into the app store. Dont think I did because I dont see any downloads available in the app store.
I have an imac 27 Im using right now and I dug up the appllications cd it came with.
    My questions are:
How can I install ilife or any of the apps without buying them?
Are the applications one use only for the specific machines?
Is there any way to use the resource dvd to install onto my retina ?
(regarding this I have tried using remote disc and my retina wont show anything under remote disc when the cd is in my ima )
ANy input or help is appreciated. I did enjoy using imove and iphoto alot and would like to have them again.

I appreciate the replies. Grant if I have an Imac and the apps on the cd then what you are saying is it should be tied to my apple id and therefore I should be able to install them on my new macbook?
I dont recall when I bought my mbp 17 if it had a cd and back then it was my first mac.. dont think there was an app store just itunes. It isnt tied to my account but shouldnt it be? I guess the person who bought that 17 from me got a free bundle :/
Its not a matter of $30 I understand that fully. Its just its $30 wasted if I am able to get it.
What im confused about (and I dont care to argue apples reasoning for it) is tying ilife to 'that Mac alone" is just dumb when a new owner of a machine cant install it and has to buy it again. that means the original owner keeps the apps for any machine he wishes and it isnt for the machine.
I think im confusing myself and possibly answered my own question but ill leave it lol.

  • Slide Shows in iLife, iPhoto, iWeb  '08 and Web Gallery

I have iLife '08 abd thus iWeb '08 and developed my website in 2006 using iWeb '06. I also belong to .Mac and therefore have access to that Web Gallery or .Mac Gallery (unsure which name it has). I like the newer slide shows/carousels that are newly available and would like to know whether I can make such slide shows and place such slide shows in my iWeb website.
I realize that another alternative is to make a slide show and put it in the Web Gallery and access it in my website via a URL pointing to the slidehow.
Is it true that ALL OF THE VARIATIONS OF SLIDE SHOWS are created in iPhoto '08? If so, then I guess if I make the slideshows there, I can decide where I want to place them (in my website or in Web Gallery).

I have found an answer thanks to jaxjason in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1086973&tstart=0
Go to web gallery, find out the album ID that you need to delete.
    iDisk -> Web -> Sites -> _gallery
Delete the album ID of the albums that arn't in iphoto.
    Then resync the albums missing.

  • Reinstalling iLife--iPhoto Shows "Skip

I'm trying to reinstall iLife '08, mostly because of my iPhoto having gone goofy. However, every time I run the installer from the CD, I can install everything but iPhoto. The choice is greyed, and it says "skip" next to it.
I've checked the web and various forums, so I've done the following:
    -Deleted the applications
-Deleted related directories in /Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Application Support
-Deleted associated files in /Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences
-Deleted associated files in /LIbrary/Receipts and ~/Library/Receipts
    -Repaired permissions
    -Rebooted the system
    -Renamed my iPhoto Library
At this point, the only thing I can think to do is to re-install my OS fresh, but that seems way to extreme. Any ideas?

to reinstall iPhoto you must delete the iPhoto receipts - "your hard drive" ==> library ==>receipts ==>
But 90%+ of iPhoto problems are problems with the data (the library) not the software
If that is the case then reinstalling iPhoto will not help
If you are having software problems sometimes downloading the latest Combo iPhoto update and the iLife support update from apple and applying them will resolve the problem too
What is your problem that iphoto is "goofy?" - it is possible that someone can assist you with that issue

  • Upgrading from iPhoto '08 to iLife/iPhoto '11 question?

I have a 2008 MacBook - Mac OS X, ver. 10.5.8 with 4GB 1067 MHz memory, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I have the orignal iPhoto '08 on my computer but just bought the iPhoto'11 to upgrade to. I was about to insert DVD to do upgrade, but noticed on box it says I need Mac OS X, ver.10.6.3 or later.  How do I upgrade to the necessary OS, and can my computer handle upgrading to whatever is newest/greatest since it is several years old (and still work OK without having glitches because it is older)?---> looking on apple support, looks like I *can* download the newest OS X Lion (since I have the Core 2 Duo), but I first have to download OS X Snow Leopard? And before I can install OS X Snow Leopard, it says I need to have OS X v10.5 Leopard? Any advice is appreciated Amy

You need to buy a 10.6 install Disk. Install it. Run Software Update to update it. Then you can purchase and install iLIfe 11 or buy it from the App Store.

  • Will i get ilife(iphoto, imovie etc) in OS x Mountian Lion.

In the specification of the OS x Mountian Lion, apple has not mentioned the name of ilife application in the list of applications they are going to provide so i am bit concern that will I get the ilife if I update my system with OS x mountain lion.
List of application they are going to provide are listed here
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/

Yes, it will still be there doing a normal upgrade. If you decide to waste time by erasing the drive before you upgrade to Mountain Lion, you will have deleted it.
Did you Mac come with Lion preinstalled, or was it another OS?
If Lion, I believe you can actually download the Apps from the Mac App Store for free, should you ever need to, but I've never been in that situation to verify the statements I've seen to that effect. It would only be possible on that machine. See the info about iLife on About Lion Recovery: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • Just bought a new iMac Sep 2012 - no iLife (iPhoto, iMovie or GarageBand) ?

I keep finding evidence on Apple pages and external sites that I should have received the iLife package already installed on my new iMac - purchased in the last few days (Sep 2012).
I have since upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - still nothing.
I'm new to Mac - am I missing something?

    Thanks everyone.
Turns out the iMac was already registered to someone else a few months before I bought it. It also kept crashing and freezing, so I'm assuming that someone else bought it, registered it, discovered that it was faulty then returned it... it was then sold to me as a 'brand new' machine.
I was not able to see any available downloads for the iLife pack as you need to register your machine before the free apps become available in the App Store. I could not register a machine that was already registered to someone else.
I questioned the store about it and they sent me another iMac right away - bit mad that they sold me a used iMac in the first place, but credit to them for sending a fresh one out quickly.
    Solved.

  • How much more space will iLife/iPhoto 08 take up?

I'm running on a laptop so I'm not one with exessive disk space.
I'm wondering how much disk space iLife 08 takes up over iLife 06, iLife o6 said it took 10 gigs. iLife 08 documentation says it takes 3gigs, that's it. So is that 3 gigs more to a total of 13? or just simply 3 gigs?

Some art from the iTMS is ~500KB! ANd if you have 10 songs from the same album, that's 5MB per album...
On the iPod, there will also be a very small version of the artwork for the iPod's now playing screen. This very small piece of artwork won't take up any significant amount of space.
The artwork is stored with the AAC/MP3 file, even if Show artwork is NOT checked.
As you described, checking the Show Artwork box will simply add a thumbnail of the cover art but this is in addition to the incuded artwork.
I have tested this a bit and it's a pain, especially on smaller iPods.
Adding artwork will add to the file size.
Putting the music on the iPod and checking the file size on the iPod reveals they are the same size, even on my Mini, which does not do artwork.
I have JPEG'd the artwork way down in size and compared and it really does save space on the iPod, even if Show Artwork is not enabled.
I have dumped all the artwork and I can get ~100 additional songs on m4 4GB Mini.

  • ILife '08 won't install, iPhoto 7.1 won't launch now either

Upgrading from iPhoto 7.1 to iLife '08. When I try to run the application installer, all looks good and then it unexpectedly quits. No error, no log, just quits and says to try again. Did this a few times, checked the system requirements and I'm good there. Tried to install just iPhoto '08 and that crashes too.
So I went to see if my old iPhoto still worked and now that will not start either. I will paste the crash log bellow. I tried repairing disk permissions and verified that worked. I'm copying over my entire iPhoto library to a backup disk now (30GB), as soon as it's done i'll trash iPhoto, iMovie and iDvd from the applications folder and see if the install will work then. Not holding my breath though. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Upgrading from iPhoto 7.1 to iLife '08.
No such upgrade. iPhoto 7 and iPhoto 08 are one and the same application. (Confusing? Don't be ridiculous!)
That crash log tells us that iPhoto is missing some important files. You need to re-install the iLife apps.
Go to HD/ Library / Receipts and remove any pkg file there with any of the following
    iLife
    iPhoto
    iDVD
    iWeb
    iMovie
    GarageBand
in the name. Then trash the apps from the Applications Folder and re-install.
Though this process should not affect your data always back up first.

  • Upgrading iPhoto and iLife 11

    Hi there
We have iMacs at the college running 10.6.6. They came with iLife09 installed and I have also purchased iLife 11. iPhoto won't open and keeps asking for an update. Since we're not on the internet (it's a secure college) I installed iLife 11 from the CD. However, after restarting, I realised that iPhoto was still at v9.0 and iPhoto was still asking for an update from the online updater before it would open.
iLife 11 should install iPhoto11 should it not ?
Can anyone throw some light on this matter ?
    Thanks
    Marco13
