ILife Like Aperture Backups?

I have been searching the forums here and elsewhere to get a good answer to the DVD backup issue.
Is there a DVD backup process like iPhoto for Aperture (i.e. it backs up to a DVD, and when you insert the DVD you get a read-only copy in the interface... in iPhoto it works VERY well).
The only two options I see are having individual project "packages" through the "Export Project" function... and save them to DVD... or of course the direct Vault to DVD option should the vault be small enough.
I just dont know of any 3rd party options to make this a bit nicer... and I am sure it will still be a long while before Apple understand and implements a solution.

Been requested as a new function. It ca be done through Automator and Applescript as Aperture is very open to these tools, but it's not baked in. We'd like it to parse across several DVD's (fit to DVD then o to next vs. spanning any individual file) and an indexing function similar to reference images on import.

  • Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?  For example: iPad and iPhone, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud), is this possible?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?
For example: iPad Air and iPhone 5, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud).  Is this possible?
This way when I change from an old ipad to a new, I can restore with the ipad backup, and when I change from an old iphone to a new, I can restore from the
    iphone backup.
    Thank you in advance!

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.
iTunes: How to share music and video - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 - about Music Sharing and Home Sharing
Home Sharing Support page - http://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/
iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

  • Access denied to Aperture backup on external drive.  When I hold the comman key adn open aperture to acces a remote drive I receive the message "There was an error opening the database for teh library "/Volumes/VERBATIM HD/Aperture Library BU.aplibrary".

When I attempt to open an Aperture backup on a remote drive using the Command key when opening Aperture., I receive the message-
    How do access these files?

How do I copy the libray onto another drive?  Drag & drop?  Can I put it onto my iMac drive without loosing the Aperture files already there?
yes, you can drag the library to your internal drive. if it has the same name as your current Aperture library rename it or drag it to a different folder.
I followed the instrucitons when formatting the drive, although I would not rule out an operator error
You can see the name of the file system on the drive, when you select the drive in the Finder and press the key combination ⌘I (for File > Get Info). The file system will show in the "General" brick of the Info panel.

    Hi there
I had the same problem and I found this answer to a similar question to ours, so I copied and pasted it for you
Reset the device by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds.  After it resets the message will be gone and you can go to settings > icloud and put in your password.
That seems to be a bug with the password alert where it won't respond correctly sometimes.
    Hope this helps

  • Does LR have a 'V' cycle like Aperture?

As I try to transition from Apple Aperture to LR 4 full time, there's one thing I really miss from Aperture:
the ability to cycle through views - from full sized single image to the project I'm in to the filmstrip view.
In Aperture, I hit 'v' and get the three different views.
Unless I've overlooked some easy command, there doesn't seem to be an ability or shortcut to accomplish this.
If there is - I'd really appreciate your help.
    Thank you.
    Bohdan

Personally I'm making the switch to lightroom in the name (and not for political, but practical reasons) of platform agnosticism.
Functionality-wise one of the big ah-ha shortcut finds for me was TAB (widens viewing space by hiding side pallettes) and COMMAND-TAB which hides all the pallettes side and horizontal. Up until then I was wondering how to really get the "full screen" functionality going. I also like the fact  that LR in the library lets you use the "L" key to make the background darker e.g. "turning the lights out."
I really used to like Aperture, but I'm definitely moving away from all Apple-only products. The destruction of Final Cut Pro was really a wake up call in terms of making me realize how trapped I was being tied to one platform. That and the dearth of flexibility in terms of affordable and powerful desktops. But I digress. Hope this helps. -Benjamin

  • It seems like Ethernet backup and Airport backup goes in different ways

Since one month a go, I've been having problems with Time Machine backup over Time Capsule.
When I run Time Machine through Ethernet, there is no problem. Fast and clean. In the Console there is not any error message.
I unplug ethernet cable, start airport, and in the next copy appears: "Bulk settings atributes failled", several times. Few backups after it will appear problems with a "file path" and few after will appear "deep traversal".
I plug the Ethernet cable, disconnect airport and I forced to re-index the image bundle. Few backups correct with Ethernet. Unplug ethernet, connect airport, and again the same history.
It seems like Ethernet backup and Airport backup goes in different ways.
Permissions are corrected and there is no problems in any disc with First Aid.
    ¿Any idea?. Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue.  I have three layered elements as three columns in the body of the page.  When I add the farthest right element it pushes the other left elements to the bottom of the page.  There are aren't any other elements on the page.
Is this a CSS issue?  I thought about exporting to Dreamweaver and fixing it there but would like to take the easy route first.

  • TS3682 i have recently update ios6 but it's not responding so i would like to backup this update, how colud i do so?

i have recently update ios6 but it's not responding so i would like to backup this update, how colud i do so?

    What is not responding?
Did you perform the update via iTunes orover the air?
If iTunes, then all your data is backed up automatically.
Did you make sure to use only the latest version of iTunes (10.7 for PC users)?
If you are saying you want to leave IOS 6 and go back to 5, that is not possible. Apple stops signing previous builds typically within 24 hours from launch.

I would like to backup my external HD with Time Machine in the HD of TC. Is it possible?
    Sorry, but not possible.
Time Machine can only back up the internal drive(s) in a Mac....or a drive that is connected directly to a Mac via USB or FireWire.....provided that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I am not recommending this, but you might be able to move the drive from the USB port to the Mac, and have Time Machine back it up that way.....then move it back to the USB port on the Time Capsule......but this will involve doing some risky things.....and manually changing settings around everytime you make the swap. Something will surely go wrong....but up to you if you want to try it.
Carbon Copy Cloner will back up the drive connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule to the Time Capsule disk, but these will not be Time Machine backups.  SuperDuper claims to also be able to do this.....but I have not tested it.

Update the iPhone 4s to iOS 7.1.1 and then Restore from your iCloud Backup.

Unfortunately I lost my life and am trying to rebuild.  Isn't the technical era great.
    Backup, backup, backup
As a minimum, use 3-2-1 (or even more)
3 copies of your data (original copy counts as 1)
2 different backup utilities/storage formats (protects from bugs in the software)
1 copy off-site (protects against theft, fire, and natural disaster)
More backup copies are even better.
Backup disks are cheap compared to the lost of personal data that does not exist anywhere else.

I am about to buy the new iMac, but do I have to buy all the software I have in my old one, like Aperture, pages, etc.?

No, you don't. If you got it from the Mac App Store, log into it with the same Apple ID and redownload it for free. If you got it from CDs or DVDs, reinstall it from those; having the DVD version of a program does not get you a free download of it from the Mac App Store.

  • I just upgraded to Lion, I would like to backup the 3.8GB update file for future reference.  Can I and  where is it located?

I downloaded the Lion upgrade from Snow Leopard, and now would like to backup that large file in case my disk ever crashes and I have to reload.  I don't want to have to re-purchase the upgrade again if I re-install from Leopard and then want to upgrade again.  Where is that large upgrade file and can I back it up?

As it is in your App Store "Purchases", you can d/l at no cost on any Mac you own, and can even re-d/l and re-install at no cost anytime.

  • Is there a way to get lightroom to search the computer for catalogs like aperture does?

Is there a way to get lightroom to search the computer for catalogs like aperture does? I've switched over from Aperture to Lightroom, and i liked how in Aperture when i went to open "other library" it would basically scan all connected drives for them, and show me when last opened and what version. Is there a way to do this with Lightroom, either in program or by a third party app?

The user interface is on a level of elementary PC software
something I have deteced till now
    no free moving workspace windows
no search function for the whole catalog
no support of mpg files in the archive
    no chromatic appararture correction
second screen sometimes gets lost, when moving between screens
no automatic creation of collection ( very risky direct interfacing with the original file system )
wrong counting of objects in catalog folder when creating virtuel copies
What worked good is the import of the APERTURE Archive ( 40000 objects ) took me one night and its there with the above obsticles!!! I am using just three days and I have to say
    not user friendly
    not workflow supporting
    risky user interfacing with masters
As JimHess stated, there is no risk working with the masters.
Chromatic aberation correction is available in Lightroom, searching the entire catalog is available in Lightroom.
With regards to your other comments, the idea that Lightroom should work the same (or very similar) to Aperture is one that you should remove from your thoughts. It will only get you into trouble. Lightroom is not Aperture and will not work the same, and has different underlying principles, and so its pointless to think you will be able to do everything the same way you did it in Aperture. You need to be open to Lightroom's features, and Lightroom's way of doing things. I agree with JimHess that it takes most people a while to learn Lightroom's way of doing things, but your patience will be rewarded.

  • I'd like to backup my HOME folder...

I'd like to backup my HOME folder...to DVDS. My Home folder is 17Gb. I'd like to back them up to DVDS. SuperDuper doesnt seem to do that.
Is there a free app that does this?
No time machine in Tiger, my iBook G3 cant take Leopard.
    Thanks

Sure. For DVD backup use Roxio's Toast. I've also mentioned Apple Backup - it's "free" but you must get a MobileMe account to get and use it. EMC's Retrospect is a heavy-weight backup utility that will backup across any removable media - tape, discs, hard drives, etc. I believe Tri-Edre Backup will backup across multiple media. ArchiveMac can split large archives into smaller ones that can be burned to multiple DVDs, FGDataBackup will span across multiple DVDs, etc.
I do not use any of the above software in this way so I cannot attest to which is best. I can only suggest you look at these and others you may find after searching at the site links I provided.
