ILife Media Update

This update improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues.
It is recommended for all users of Aperture, iLife 08, iWork 08 and Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard or later.
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/30295/apple-ilife-media-browser-update

No, it's not mandatory but it's an improvement over the one that's in your applications now. It's the browser that in iWeb lets you get photos and audio files to add, same for iPhoto, it lets you add music to slideshows, etc. It works in Mail, Pages, etc.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • ITunes library no longer appears in iLife media browser

Lately, my iTunes music library has disappeared from the media browser in all my iLife apps and in iWork. I've tried deleting the plists for the iLife apps. I've tried reinstalling iLife 2006, and launching them in the order Apple suggests. I backed up my home folder, and tried reinstalling the OS. All to no avail. Everything else, photos and movies, etc, appear in the media browser.
I can't seem to find any information on Google or Apple that's on point with my problem. So, I am writing this post.
I am not sure when the problem started, but I think I noticed it in mid June (June 18 was when reinstalled the OS).
Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions. Using the iLife media browser is easier than manually dragging files from iTunes to GarageBand for podcasts.
    Thanks

Wow, this is not encouraging. I have a slightly different version of this problem. I had my Aperture library showing up (and updating as I expanded it) in the Media Browser, and all was well until I bought a new Mac and transferred everything over from the old one. For whatever reason, not everything makes it over. Now, on the new Mac, my Media Browser only shows images from Photo Booth--not even iPhoto! I feel your pain and share your ire.
Someone mentioned September (not coming soon enough). Is there speculation that Aperture will be updated (finally!) when Snow Leopard releases?

  • Aperture Library and iLife Media Browser - Showing Deleted MobileMe Gallery

I'm currently using Aperture 3.1 and iLife '09 and just noticed that when I try to access the Aperture Library from say iPhoto or Keynote that the list of folders contains two MobileMe folders with my name, one of which contains dupicates of two of my gallery's. Now I deleted all of my MobileMe gallery's to see if I could fix this, but it still shows a MobileMe folder and two gallery's that no longer exist. I even logged out of MobileMe in Aperture, but still in the iLife Media browser the non-existent gallery's are still shown. I even tried deleting all previews and re-generating in Aperture, to see if the sharing information would be updated, but still these phantom gallery's persist. I guess this doesn't cause me any problems, but I would just like to fix it and wondered if anyone else had seen this and knew of a solution? Thanks.

    Hi,
I have a similar problem and have posted about it on this thread:

  • ILife media browser has incorrect date for Aperture photos

It looks like the iLife media browser use the date a preview was created as the date in the iLife media browser. Photos from the iPhoto library have the date the photo was taken.
(A list view with file name, date and file size is available from a control click.)

I got this to work by dragging a project out of my blue folders (it then showed up in iLife media browser), then I went back into Aperture, dragged it into the blue folder again, and quit Aperture. Just before quite Aperture updated the iLife preview exports and all of my blue folders and projects showed up in the Media Browser! Somehow dragging a project out and back in seemed to kick start the folder search.

  • IPhoto Images Showing Up in iLife Media Browser, Desktop/ScreenSaver, Etc.

Like others, I'm having the problem where my iPhoto library/images are not showing up in the iLife Media Browser in other iLife and iWork applications. They are also not showing up in the Desktop & Screen Saver system preferences.
I've read a lot of posts on this problem and have tried the remedies that others have described - to no avail. It seems others have reached a dead end as well.
I even upgraded my entire machine with the purchase of a new iMac this week (to replace a non-Intel G5 running Leopard). I completed the Setup Assistant and all files transferred fine. I thought surely this would solve the issue, but to my surprise it continues on the new machine.
    Any ideas?
On a side note, my Faces tags didn't transfer to the new machine. I posted about that issue here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10680823
Not sure if that secondary problem is in any way related to the iLife Media Browser issue.
Thanks for any new light you're able to shed on the issue.

Try applying or reapplying iLife Media Browser Update and iLife Support 9.0.3.

  • Missing iLife Media Browser

After transferring data via time machine from my alu. MBP15" to unibody MBP13", I could not see iphoto library in the media Browser. I tried that in IMoive and adium.
I think the problem comes from different version of ilife in both Macs. The 15" has 08 and the 13" has 09". How could I resolve the problem ? Apart from this, iphoto functions alright and all photos have transfered without any missing. Thanks
    Regards,
    Ronald

I just ran into this, transferring the exact same way between the exact same two computers! iPhoto's contents weren't showing up anywhere the iLife media browser should put them (Desktop background, iWeb).
First, make sure all your updates are installed. Download and install the package I'm linking to, then restart.

  • Problem with Fotomagico and new iLife Media Browser

I installed the new iLife Media Browser as part the Apple software Update several days ago. I use Fotomagico, which uses the media browser. After installing the new browser, Fotomagico no longer sees photos- it can browse the directories in iPhoto but can't see the actual photos (blank boxes appear with file names) and I can't select them.
Is there some way to uninstall the new browser? On my wife's Mac, I did not install it after seeing what happened on mine, and Fotomagico still works fine there.
Help! I'm in the middle of a project with a deadline! I've contacted Boinx Software also but they are taking their time.

Do you use Time Machine? Apart from wiping the HD and starting over there’s no other way to go back.
    But try repair permissions first.
    BTW
it can browse the directories in iPhoto
What version of iPhoto are you using?
    Regards

  • Some Aperture photos and projects missing from iLife Media Browser

Good evening - having a little bit of trouble getting Aperture to work smoothly with my iLife media browser (i.e., inserting photos into Mail, Pages, Keynote, etc).
I currently have 5699 photos and 131 projects in Aperture. But the iLife Media Browser only shows me 5131 photos and 130 projects; when clicking on individual projects in the browser, anywhere from 3 to 70 photos per project are missing. Tried repairing permissions, repairing the database, and rebuilding the database - this improved the issue, but didn't completely resolve it as 5679 photos now show in the Media Browser, and 20 remain missing. Also tried deleting, and generating previews for all my photos in the library. No change.
My library is mostly referenced, with a few photos managed.
Obviously in the grand scheme of things 20 photos missing in the Media Browser not that big a deal. But wanting to get to the root cause though because without solving this issue, I'm concerned about a larger underlying problem that may only get worse as my library grows.
Has anyone had, or resolved a problem similar to this? And can anyone offer any additional suggestions? Are there any specific files that feed the iLife Media Browser that I can delete and rebuild that may solve this issue?
    thanks,
    Mark

I think I've ironed this out. Several intertwined issues. I took a moment to type out my notes; hopefully it helps you guys solve this quickly if you get a call from someone else on this down the line.
[1] original problem of several hundred items missing in Media Browser: probably an issue of previews not being built. Mostly fixed when I regenerated previews for my library, but repairing permissions and repairing the database may have helped too.
[2] Residual problem of 20 items still missing (5698 items displayed in Aperture when selecting Inspector > Library > Photos; 5677 items displayed in Mail Photo Browser). My issue wasn't as much with 20 missing items in a browser as it was with trying to understand the root cause and whether I had an underlying Aperture, Aperture Library, or OS problem that would bite me later. Turns out several things were causing this problem:
[2a] In Aperture, when you select Inspector > Library > Photos , all your content is displayed: photos, videos, and any audio clips you may have imported (e.g., a recorded audio clip on your camera narrating shoot, location, client, exposure value etc). So even though you've selected "Photos", your "xxx items displayed" count on the bottom of the screen reflects all your imported content. This is not the case in the Media Browser - of which there are two variants in Mac OS:
[2a.1] Mail has a Photo Browser, which behaves much like a "Media Browser Lite: the title bar says "Photo Browser", it only accesses your Aperture and iPhoto Libraries, and only shows photos and video.
[2a.2] iWork applications have a more comprehensive Media Browser, where you can select between Audio, Photos, and Movies. If you select Audio the iWork Media Browser will show any audio files present in your Aperture or iTunes library. If you select Movies, the iWork Media Browser will show any movie clips present in your Aperture or iMovie libraries. Photos behaves the same way as "Photo Browser" in Mail, showing any photos present in your Aperture (or iPhoto if installed) libraries.
Turns out I had three audio clips in my Aperture library. When selecting "Photos" in either the Mail or iWork browsers, the total item count will only show photos and videos - no audio clips. So now 17 missing items remain.
[2b] Stacks - one project contained nine photos grouped into a stack. Only the key photo of a stack is previewed/shown in Media Browser. So a stack of nine photos will only show as one in the browser - unstacking the photo will allow them all to appear. So now nine missing items.
[2c] Seven photographs somehow had broken links to their referenced masters, and needed to be reconnected. Down to two missing items.
[2d] One photo simply wouldn't cooperate - no matter how many times I regenerated the preview, or deleted the preview and then regenerated it, nothing worked. I deleted it from the library and reimported it. One missing item remains.
[2e] Final missing item was a photograph I rejected. Makes sense; as media browser does not display rejects.
Problem solved!! Hopefully this might be of help to somebody in the future.
    cheers,
    Mark

  • Cant update ilife bundled updates!!!

    Hi,
I am unable to update ilife bundled updates. Keeps saying "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (18)".
These apps show in my purchases and it asks me to accept. However when I click accept..and enter my apple id and password it does nothing. NOTHING!!
Tried calling apple support they made me do a few useless things none of which helped. Have been on the phone with them for about an hour now and they seem to have no clue. I thought this was a common problem and to think they would know what to do about it by now.!!!
Tried deleting the .plist file and logging out and logging in with apple id etc. none of which seem to work!. Need an update to iphoto so i can photo stream pics from my iphone to my mac (mid 2011, software is up to date). Any help is appreciated.

Have you used any of the three apps?
If you use even one of these apps before you accept them, then as per their individual Terms of Use, they become as is apps, not usable on any other Mac and unable to be updated.

  • Aperture library does not update in iLife media browser

I had the following problem for over a YEAR now. The *photo browser* does not have current Aperture information available. I looked everywhere for a solution, including this forum and the support database. The proposed solutions were as follows:
    1. Turn on iLife sharing and auto-preview creation in Preferences - DUH!
    2. Turn off iLife sharing, restart Aperture, then turn it back on - DOES NOT WORK
    3. Hold down Command-Option when starting Aperture and rebuild library - DOES NOT WORK
    4. Trash ApertureData.xml file - DOES NOT WORK
    5. Trash ApertureData.xml as well as Aperture.aplib folder - DOES NOT WORK
I'm sure there were a few more things I tried. I thought I'd ask a "genius" at the Apple store. I realized then (again) that that moniker is gravely misplaced.
The crux of the problem is that the ApertureData.xml is not kept up-to-date by Aperture. That XML file is used throughout the Mac to provide photo browser access and insertion of preview files into Mail, iLife, iWork and other supported programs. Why that file stopped updating is a mystery to me. Some people suggest it has to do with the upgrade from 1.5 to 2.
For all those super-frustrated Aperture users who have had the same issue and cannot fix it using any of the above methods, here's ultimately what I had to do to fix this.
    1. Export every one of your projects
    2. Create a new Aperture library
    3. Import all projects into the new library
The only items that do not transfer are the ones situated at the root level of the library. Those will have to be recreated manually. Since I only had a few smart folders there, it did not affect me gravely. The keyword list should also be created when you create the new library. If not, look for Keywords.plist in the old Aperture.aplib folder.
I spent literally WEEKS looking for this solution, it is nowhere to be found. I cannot be the only one running into that problem. I'd be curious to know if there are others out there with the same problem.
    Thanks!

  • Ilife '11 Updated...now I cant add albums to my Iweb sites

    Hi everyone,
I have just updated to Ilife 11, and now when I open my Iweb it wont allow me to drag photo albums from the media pane onto my Iweb page. The green circle with the cross does show and the other albums move out of the way as if the album were going to drop into place, but nothing happens.
Please help as I have 3 websites currently running which people have paid for,
    Thanks!

I was having this exact same problem myself till I figured it out.
1.) With your iPhone plugged in, click on the iPhone button near the top right of iTunes next to iTunes Store.
    2.) Click "On This iPhone"
    3.) Click "Add To"
4.) Then you can drag music to your phone from your albums, songs list, playlists, etc.
Hope that helped! If I didn't clarify it enough, let me know!

  • Software Update Fails to Install iLife 09 Updates...

I have a Macbook with all the most recent updates installed, and computer otherwise running smoothly.
I had purchased iLife 11 (and since gave it away to a friend) but was very disappointed with the upgrade, and for various reasons decided to go back to the original iLife 09 that my computer came with.
I had already successfully made the downgrade on my Macbook Pro, by deleting the apps, all its related preference files etc I found by searching my computer. When I went to do the same on my Macbook, I was also able to delete and reinstall iLife 09 without a hitch, but when I got to the point where I ran Software Update is where I ran into some issues...
Software Update recognizes that I have iLife 09 installed, and tells me there are updates to iDVD, iWeb, iMovie and iPhoto totalling some 272MB. Everything downloads fine, starts to install but hangs for a few minutes on "Validating Packages" and soon after I get an error message that "None of the updates were installed" citing an "Unexpected Error". What gives?
I have tried the update a few times, after restarts, fixing permissions from Disk Utility, and searched the web for an answer, and come up empty...
Any help in getting this issue resolved would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Start by bypassing Software update and downloading the updates directly from Apple Support;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL803
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL842
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1009

Install one at a time, repair permissions when all done.

  • Can't access Aperture 3 previews in iLife Media Browser

I know this has been posted before but I don't think I've seen a resolution yet ....
Since migrating all of my data etc from my MacBook to new iMac I can't see the Aperture previews in the Media Browser. I've tried reinstalling Aperture and previews are set to be shared with iLife (in Preferences).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon

Thanks for this - it didn't work, but something else did!!
Turns out there's actually a Knowledge Base answer on a similar matter (discovered after calling Apple Support). Just open Aperture from the dock whilst holding Option + CMD and then select to Repair the library - middle option. Worked straight away!
    Thank you

  • ILife 06 update now iPod does not sync

    Folks,
agter upgrading to iLife 06 the update of my iPod does not work. I get the message that iTunes cannot write or read to this disk.
I had iTunes 6.02 before the update and everything worked fine.
IPod is an 60GB photo with newesr firmware.
    Thanks
    Oliver

You may have an Ownership & Permissions problem on your iPod.
Select your iPod on the desktop and Get Info (command-I).
Set the permissions to 'You can Read & Write'. Expand 'Details:' and click 'Apply to enclosed items...'.
Tick the checkbox 'Ignore ownership on this volume'.
If your iPod does not show up on the desktop, you have to 'Enable disk use' in Prefernces>iPod (iTunes preferences)
    Hope this helps.
