ILife Reinstall?

Hey everyone -
I recently bought a MBP early 2011 model. It came with iLife, Facetime, and a few other apps pre installed. Now, I need to upgrade my hard drive. This means I have to reinstall Lion, aka lose my iLife apps. Is there any way I can reinstall iLife apps without having to pay for them via the Mac App Store?
Thanks in advance

there are several options including just upgrading that erase nothing - an erase and install does erase everything
and upgrading your hard drive does not require reinstalling anything - you can just copy everything over or use a clone package like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to make a bootable clone on the new drive
You also can reinstall iLife apps from the original restore disks that came with the computer doing a custom install of bundled software only -
reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only

  • ILife reinstall after reinstall of OS Lion

I bought a new macbook pro in December it came with OS Lion. Due to an error in setup I needed to reinstall the OS. Installing from the recover disk was too slow so I bought the OS and created a bootable install disk. Is there a way for me to reinstall the ilife programs that came preinstalled on my computer without needing to purchase them?

I know with my Mac Mini after reinstalling Lion using the Internet Recovery, I logged into the App Store with my Apple ID and under Purchases, my iLife apps (iMovie, GarageBand, iPhoto) were available to reinstall.
Look under Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion in this link.

  • ILife reinstallment?

Is it necessary to purchase and reinstall iLife when I clean my macbook after I backed everything up to Time Machine?

Not if your iLife apps are on the TM backup.

  • ILife reinstall disk not working

How do I re-install my iLife onto my Macbook? I have a 10.6.8 OS X. My Macbook does not recognize my iLife install disk.

Download and use Pacifist to extract and install iPhoto.

  • OSX reinstall deleted iLife

    Greetings!
I used Disk Utility to erase the hard drive and install a clean version of OSX 10.9.5. Unfortunately, ILife suite did not reinstall with OSX. I have an old "CPU Drop-In DVD" with iLife version 11 (for Mac OSX 10.6.3), and I am wondering if I can install this version of iLife on my computer with OSX 10.9.5? If not, I'd appreciate any suggestions for how to get iLife reinstalled on the computer without having to buy a new version.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Mark

Thank you kindly for your reply, mende1.
I should have specified that the iLife DVD came with an older MacBook Pro (purchased 2008 vs. 2010). Given this fact, might there be a problem with installing and updating this version of iLife?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • IDVD (possibly iLife) issues with Snow Leopard

So I've been trying to create a wedding dvd from a video that I recorded for them. I've done this before (on Leopard) and everything worked fine. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard (including a fresh install) this doesn't seem to work.
Basically iDVD wouldn't launch completely. It would let me select 'create a new project' and then load the themes but the project screen wouldn't open. When I'd go to the file menu and open/close etc the main screen would pop up asking me to cancel, save or don't save the current project. Regardless of which option I chose, the program would freeze and I would have to force quit.
This was on top of issues with iMovie in which I couldn't select the transitions options without iMovie crashing.
Now having searched the internet high and low for solutions, it seems quite a lot of people are having issues with this and I think I know why. Those people having issues seem to be the ones who have iLife on their Tiger setup cd's that came with their macbook/desktop.
Now just so you know I have done all the selected solutions such as removing the preference file from library, repairing disk permissions, reinstalling iLife, reinstalling iDVD without the rest of the bundled software. I even went to the extremes of formatting my hard drive and installing Snow Leopard from scratch and this didn't work. So I thought I'd try upgrading to Snow Leopard from Leopard, again the same issue arose.
It got to the stage where I actually ended up going back to Tiger (10.4) and finishing the dvd and burning it. Now with iDVD and iMovie working fine I decided to upgrade back to Snow Leopard, and low and behold, iDVD isn't working.
I really hope Apple are aware of the issue because it seems to be an problem with people installing the bundled software which came with their macbook/desktop on a version of Leopard/Snow Leopard and it not working.
I'm going to take my macbook into the store soon/and or call Apple Care and request a new install disk of iLife to try and eliminate the issues because when I'm creating a movie, I don't expect to have to roll back to 2 previous OSX version's before my software works.
If anyone has any suggestions, please fire them my way.

While 7.0.4 may work fine with your version of 10.6.2, it doesn't work for others. You'll notice quite a few posts in this section of users with the same error.
The only issue I can assume, as mentioned in the original post, is users who are installing iLife from the original installation CD's provided when I bought my Macbook (which came preinstalled with Tiger). The iLife software comes bundled on two cd's, which I and other users install from. Hence it's the only thing the users who are installing and having issues with have in common.
I could understand if it was only me having issues and if these issues resolved themselves from a fresh, clean install after a reformat, but that's not the case.
I'll call Apple Care tomorrow and see what they think.

  • IPhoto 11 (9.5.1) hangs

Since about a week ago, iPhoto 11 (version 9.5.1) hangs, with with rotating ball showing, shortly after launching. The activity viewer shows that there are usually about 31 threads, but that nothing much is actually happening. I have to do a force quit to close the application.
I have tried re-installing OS X, but that had no effect.
The closest I have come to a fix was by following the instructions given by MarcKirk in https://discussions.apple.com/message/12714935#12714935 copied below:
I experiened the complete system freeze after about a minute's use. I went back to iPhoto '06. Just spent an hour on the phone with an Applecare person. His solution actually worked for me, although it's only been about 15 minutes. The key as suggested by Terence Devlin, is clearing the cache, but it must be done in a particular way. Here is what he had me do:
    1) Remove any old iPhoto versions you have installed (delete iPhoto and iLifeMediaBrowser folders in HD/library/application support. Delete iPhoto app.) empty trash.
    2) Reinstall iLife 11, reboot (not sure if reboot is necessary here)
    3) Before opening anything, do software update (to 9.1), reboot
    4) delete ~/library/cache (in your home directory, not HD)
    5) reboot (important to do it here before emptying trash)
    6) empty trash
    7) open iPhoto holding down option & command. Pick options 1,2,5,6 and rebuild
If you didn't reinstall an older iPhoto version, you may be able to skip the iLife reinstall. Try it.
By doing this I am actually able to launch iPhoto succesfully and look at existing photos, but when I try to upload new photos from my camera the same problem occurs, and I am back to square one.
I have made a new library by holding down option when launching, but the same problem arises even with an empty library.
I would happily include here the crash log, but it is about 87 pages long (when copied and pasted into MSWord), so I will leave that for now. Is there any way I can send a text file containing the crash log to this forum? Alternatively are there any particular bits I should include here that might help?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Update:
I have now solved the problem by reformatting my SD card, as suggested in the following discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3159955
Thanks to Terence for suggesting this solution.

  • Delete iPhoto Library OK?

Because iPhoto started crashing and was not fixed even by a hard drive wipe & OS / iLife reinstall, I just installed Aperture trial, which seems to be working fine. I imported my 25gb iPhoto library, all good. New Aperture library is similar size. Can I now remove the iPhoto library (25gb) to a disconnected backup drive, or is Aperture still dependent on those originals in iPhoto Library?

You did the right thing to copy them originally just in case you had a problem with Aperture and needed to revert back to iPhoto or re-import the images. If you are confident you have no problems related to the import from iPhoto, you can delete the iPhoto Library if you wish. There’s no hooks that I’ve heard of back to your iPhoto Library.
You could always verify you have no referenced masters outside your Aperture Library via Files -> Locate Referenced Files... after you have selected all the images you imported from iPhoto. If that tells you there are no referenced files, you’re safe.
But being very cautious, I would still recommend you retain the iPhoto Library for some time unless you really need the space to be freed up.

  • Re-installing iMovie plug-ins

When I switched from a PPC Mac to my Intel Mac, I had to update some third-party plug-ins for iMovie. I was having some problems with it and did something stupid. I removed the iMovie plug-ins in my library for transitions and titles and somehow lost them (yes I searched they are so gone). How can I get them back? I tried re-installing iLife 06, but got weird error messages. What can I do to restore iMovie to what it was before?

    Hello, floridakid,
    Welcome to the discussions.
You should have been able to recover your original iMovie titles and transitions with the reinstall of iLife.
You would not be able to recover the third party plug-ins, unless you had saved the original downloads of those.
What was the problem with the iLife reinstall? What 'weird error' messages were you getting? Did the applications reinstall or not?

  • IMovie 11 opens fine, but is invisible...

    Hello fellow Apple people,
I have a really strange and irritating problem with iMovie 11.  This might require some screenshots to explain, but basically when I start the app the dock icon bounces away and then becomes the still serene dock icon with glowing blue dot that indicates the app is running...
Now here comes the strange part, iMovie itself appears to be completely invisible.  I'm not a professional with OS X, but I'm by no means a beginner, I can tell it hasn't crashed because the menu bar changes to the iMove menu bar and I can still interact with that.  I can even pull up the about iMovie window...
Activity monitor also confirms that it doesn't seem to have descended into "Not Responding" territory...
But the main app window is gone, completely invisible somewhere.  And nothing in the menu bar for iMovie can bring it back.  It remains that way until I CMD+Q out of it.  I've tried trashing the preferences, tried trashing all .plists I can find relating to iMovie, tried turning off spaces, tried reinstalling iLife, reinstalling OS X, tried updating...  No matter what I do, I can't seem to get rid of this problem.  I should mention that only iMovie is affected, all other iLife apps are working fine and my system itself doesn't seem to have any other problems that would make me suspect something is awry.
    Anyone with any suggestions?

I'm having the same trouble. Here's what appears in system.log upon launching iMovie. I'm on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 and iMovie 9.0.4.

  • When i try to update iPhoto, it says sign in to the account you used to purchase it

when i try to update iPhoto, it says sign in to the account you used to purchase it and does not update. what can i do?

Did you buy this machine used or "open box" by any chance?
The free iLife suite is tied to the AppStore now and copy protected, so if OS X was wiped off the drive and iLife reinstalled from AppStore, it's registered to the person owning the AppleID that installed it.
Even if the machine gets transfered to a new owner and had a copy of free iLife like other software Apple bundles with OS X,  it can't be updated without the original AppleID.
Surprising Steve Jobs said that copy protection won't work when dealing with the music labels, but on the other hand copy protects everything on AppStore instead of by developer choice instead.
There is certainly a case for copy protection in certain cases, but no to the point it's on everything and becomes a problem for everyone.
Your solution to this problem is either use the original AppleID or delete iPhoto and purchase it from AppStore with your AppleID.
Your pictures are stored it the Pictures/iPhoto Library and will remain if you delete the program.
If you wish not to use iPhoto, and need to get your pictures out, right click on the iPhoto Library and "show package contents" ot get to the Origianls folder.
    Good Luck

I've done everything posted and I'm at my breaking point. Any other thoughts out there? Error says image not found and Library not loaded?

The usual fix for the first crash is to reinstall iPhoto.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name. On 10.6 those receipts may be found in the Finder using the Go menu and selecting Go To Folder
    In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
The second is +not an iPhoto Crash+
It's a crash on a third party app called *Phone Disk*, which uses a hack to access the Phine. Try removing that and seeing if a re-install of iPhoto works.

  • HT5525 How do I pay and download a copy of iPhoto 9.x

How do I pay and download a copy of iPhoto 9.x when I already have iPhoto on my machine that was bought by another apple id?

More info:  I bought this used Mac Pro (2008) with Mountain Lion, iPhoto (iLife) reinstalled on it and I have paid for and installed Mountain Lion.  Should my purchase of Mountain Lion include the iLife suite or do I have to buy each one separate?
I suspect that I have to buy them separate but how do I by them as when go to the App store the only option that I have is to update and not repurchase.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IDVD Crash during render process

Hello, first I want to say that I did several searches on this forum to find a fix against this bug and nothing that I tried fixed the crashing problem.
*What I have*: Mac Pro 2 x 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 4 Go DDR2 RAM, Leopard 10.5.2, ILife'08 and Time Machine active (and a Logitech mouse *smile*) .
Problem: IDVD crashes during the render process everytime with all kind themes and any kind of video type file.
Note: It's been about a month that I am still trying different approaches (i.e.: delete library files, reinstall ILife, reinstall leopard AND ILife, reinstall ILife without IPhoto... you get the picture) and nothing worked so far.
*So my question is*: Is IDVD'08 compatible with Leopard at all or should I wait for the next release?
    Thank you,

I can't answer your question about Leopard and iDvd '08 since I'm still running with Tiger X.4.11
But after reading your post I'm concerned that you may not be deleting apps correctly. So my suggestion is to try again to reinstall the app. But use this utility before doing so:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/appdelete.html
Thereafter run apple's software updater within system pref's to make sure you have the most current versions on your mac. Always a good idea to run apple's disc utility as well before and after updating. Make sure to disconnect all external FW and USB2 devices (except your keyboard and mouse) when trying idvd for the first time after installing an update.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back. Good luck.

  • IPhoto frequent crashes

    I'm running iPhoto 6.0.6 on a dual 1.8 G5, 10.4.10, 1 GB RAM
iPhoto will crash when I try to download pics from my CF card (card reader) - it will download roughly 20 pics then crash, no matter how many are on the card.
iPhoto also crashes when my wife tries to make iPhoto albums for printing. She'll either get about halfway through with the album (usually about 15 pages or so) and have a crash, or she'll get through with the album (~30 pg), try to send it to Apple, and iPhoto will crash. Either case, on relaunch, iPhoto has reverted the albums in question to an unfinished state, usually about 10 pg populated with pics, the rest empty.
This is happening on multiple libraries.
I still have Garage Band loaded (and run frequently), all updaters have been run, permissions repaired, iLife reinstalled from scratch, etc. I've even run TechTool on the machine to see if there's any hardware issues (none).
I'll post the recent crash logs this afternoon after I get home from work.
