ILife upgrade DVD won't read

I bought iLife 06 for my eMac but the DVD's won't mount. They have sent three and none will mount. I saw a thread about a firmware update for superdrives but when I attemtpted the upgrade I got a message that it wasn't needed. Anyone else having problems with these software DVD's? standard movies or movies i have burned work fine. cdroms play fine, both factory and burned.

Is your DVD drive an original part, or is it a third party DVD drive? If it is third party, then you may have some compatibility issues with it. I would recommend calling the manufacturer to see if there are any updated drivers.
Another thing that you may want to try is to upgrade to Tiger (or reinstall Panther and upgrade it, but this is time consuming and doesn't yield much benefit). The latest version of OS X always has the latest fixes and hardware compatibility patches.
If all else fails, take the machine and the software into the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and see what they can do about it.
Good luck to you.

  • 16X DVDs won't read

I have a G5 PowerMac (latest version I believe). It came with a SONY DVD RW DW-U21A installed. I tried replacing it with a Memorex DVD unit to be able to use 16x DVDs. It still won't read 16x DVDs even though the Memorex DVD drive will burn an dread them just fine in a PC. Is there a special drive that I need or is it a matter of the G5 not being able to read 16x no matter what?

I think you've got the same "software fault" that's affecting a number of us at the moment.. I'm was trying to log this with Apple but I'm just out of support so they won't help.. They wont even acknowledge my question.. Search on "DVD not reading blank media" or similar..

  • Cannot upgrade. Won't read discs

This is very strange. I can insert a clip art or other cd and the computer reads them fine. I try to use an upgrade disc or even the original disc that came with the computer and it just thinks about it a minute and then spits them out. No messages or anything. Any ideas what's causing this?
    I'm running 10.2.8

I think they're dvds but to be honest, I'm not sure. The upgrade discs are for 3.8. I am at work and the computer is at home. Do you think the DVD section of the superdrive isn't working maybe?

  • Dvd won't read snow leopard

I finally decided up upgrade to Snow Leopard; when I put in the disk, nothing happened, and the disk got kicked back out.  Suggestions?

Is your optical drive able to read other disks - movie DVDs, music CDs, burned data? If so you may have a faulty Snow Leopard disk. If all disks are failing, however, it is likely a problem with the drive itself, which will need service.
    Best of luck.

  • DVDs Won't Read - Keep Ejecting

I'm having trouble with my PowerMac G4 Quicksilver, specifically its DVD drive. Whenever I try to play a DVD movie it just ejects the disc. After persistently reinserting it a few times it will finally mount, but then DVD Player freezes. The Mac OS X DVD works fine as do others, it seems to be exclusively movies that throw it off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

In the few years I have owned Macs I have taken them apart, put them back together, wiped and reinstalled the software, done extensive troubleshooting on the hardware, and yet one of the only things I haven't done is clean the lens of the optical drive. How stupid of me. Well, I would certainly be willing to give it a try. Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? Thanks.

  • DVD won't read DVD; will spit it out

When I insert a DVD into the drive, it tries to read it, then spits it out. Thought that F12 key was stuck, but wasn't. I have a DVD +/-RW drive so it should work. I restarted the computer, and it worked. But next day, put in a different DVD, and it wouldn't read it. Then I tried the same disc from the day before, and that wouldn't work.
    Help please.

    First, welcome to the discussions.
I had this issue many moons ago, I found that following some of the recommended steps here fixed the problem.
Most note worthy, Repair Permissions, run Macjanitor, Cache Out X, and Onyx once a week need to or not. This will keep all of the clutter out from burning CD's and DVD's.

  • MBP won't read burned DVDs after Mountain Lion upgrade

Well, I think this is the last Macintosh I'll be owning. I've really had it. And now with the decision to cancel the 17" laptop, what's my inscentive to stick around?
OK, rant over. I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. All went fine, however, I did not notice until today that the machine will no longer read my previously-burned DVDs. The machine thinks they are blank DVDs! Interesting that I can insert a movie DVD and it reads/plays fine.
Has anyine else had this problem? Is there a solution?
    Thanks-

What version is Pages? If you have at least Pages 4.0.5, try deleting the preference file. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences, delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist file & then restart Pages. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your user Library will appear about halfway down the list.
If you're version of Pages is older, try updating.

DVD drive won't read after upgrade to mountain lion install

do you have the win 7 cd handy, try to boot into the discs and see whether that works, this will tell you whether that is software or hardware problem. Such failures do occur, due to ageing of laser.

  • MBPro won't read SL DVD - can I copy the install DVD on a PC?

My MacBook Pro won't read the SL install DVD (as others have had problems with). I have access to a PC with DVD to DVD copy ability. My question is, can I burn a copy of the install DVD to another DVD and use that copy (assuming my MB will be able to read the copy DVD)? Is this possible? Any tips on how would be much appreciated - a shame to buy the install DVD and unable to use it. Buying an external DVD drive doesn't make sense, as I plan on upgrading my MB with the year. Thanks!

My question is, can I burn a copy of the install DVD to another DVD and use that copy (assuming my MB will be able to read the copy DVD)?
I'm not sure why you think that would work. Either the disk is damaged, in which case you won't be able to magically create a good copy, or your drive is damaged, in which case it's not going to read a copy any better than the original.
Is this a new disk, or have you used it before? Is it readable in other machines? Can your Mac read other disks?

  • Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. OS 10.6.8

Thanks again. The option thing got me further than I've gotten thus far but when I went to choose a library I got that same message.
I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?
Thanks a million, I really appreciate your time. I'm an old fogey and computers often mystify me, especially when they lock me out of things for no apparent reason.

  • Combo won't read burned DVD

Hi, i know this is not new but since i can't find any solution and apple support prefer staying behind the scene, i posted my problem.
I have a DVD with all my works files which is burned at the office using PC. Once i was home, i tried to copy the files to my emac (1,25 GH, 512, Tiger 10.4.2). It works for a while and then it stopped and saying can't find xxxxx file which is actually in the dvd. So i tried a couple times and did not work. I rejected the dvd for the first time it won't come out and i restarted the emac so it came out. After i restarted the emac, the combo drive won't take any burned DVD anymore ( i have memorex DVD) but it can take any comercial DVD or CD, e.g i insterted the Tiger upgrade DVD and it works good or Adobe CS CDs it works good. I was cleaning the lens using Memorex lens cleaner, it still throws my burned DVD out after a few second.
So what should i do? is it software or hardware problem? hey apple guys where are you !

If you look over other posts in this forum, you'll notice a common current complaint involves using 8x DVD media; can you try using 4x media?
Also, there are differences between DVD-R and DVD+R media; for Ma cuse you'll generally want to use DVD-R.
As a general tip when burning CD-R or DVD-R on PCs to be read on other computers, burn the PC disc as a read-only (closed) disk. Leaving the disc appendable or multi-seeion capable can make it unreadable on other computers, even other PCs that don't have the exact version of the same burning software you used to create the disc. Finalizing or closing or making the dic read-only --- whatever the burner program calls that option, it tends to work better.

  • MacBook unable to read leopard upgrade DVD

I have a MacBoook I purchased in early 2007, I am currently using Tiger 10.4.11. Yesterday I bought Leopard 10.5.1 with the intention of upgrading Tiger to Leopard with no success. When I inserted the Install DVD my computer self-ejected the DVD before anything even came on the screen. I can play regular DVDS, but for some reason the Install Disk won't read... anyone know what may be causing this?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
The latest Leopard DVD is 10.5.4, so you have a very old version. Be sure it is a full install DVD and not an update DVD or one that came with a computer.

  • My CD/DVD-rom drive won't read audio cd's

Since installing itunes on my laptop, the CD/DVD rom drive won't read audio cd's any more! However, it will read data CD's and dvds.
It didn't stop all at once...it started failing to read the odd random audio cd. Over time, gradually more and more CD's not recognised until no audio cd's readable at all!
When I say 'not recognised' I mean that if you look in the cd-rom file with a music disc inserted it thinks the drive is empty. The drive spins the disc a few times and then gives up. As only music cd's affected I suspect this is something to do with the itunes software. I've tried the various troubleshooting tips on itunes help but no joy....has anyone else had this problem / anyone know of a possible solution?
    Thanks
    Tiny

I had the same problem and I contacted a support team. They suggested that I upgrade my computer's power supply and I did. I had a 250W drive and now I have a 350W drive and it reads the CDs perfectly; except for one certain CD.
