ILife08

I just bought my first iMac on 02/24/2008. I was expecting Leopard to come pre-installed but instead I got the system with Tiger and a DIsk with the Leopard Upgrade. I went thru **** trying to install the upgrade but with some great help from somebody at these Apple Discussions I finally had the operating system installed even though with some errors messages at the end.
After that, I downloaded the latest updates to Leopard from Apple but still I was getting some errors.
Since I was not feeling OK about having a new iMac and having all these problems, I followed the advise of one of you guys and run the installation again, this time choosing *"Delete and Install*". This time the installation went really great. It finished without any errors and I believe the system is running OK, even though I am not sure, since I am new to Mac and still do not know how to check my system. The Only problem now is that I am missing the *iLife '08 package*, which I had after my previous installation.
Any ideas why?
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Because you deleted it. You should be able to reinstall it from the original disks that came with your machine (not the Leopard upgrade).

  • How do I delete iLife11 and go back to using iLife08?

I want to go back to using iLife08, how do I uninstall iLife11 so I can install iLife08?

There's no "ilife 11" to delete. Just trash the various apps.
    Then re-install 08.
However... Have you kept 08 versions of the iPhoto Library? If not, then you will have a problem. 08 cannot open an 11 Library. This problem may also extend to the other apps too.

  • IPhoto does not show up on custome install on ILife08 disc

I have upgraded to Leopard and my iphoto book themes are gone. I have tried to reinstall iLife08 for the iphoto but when i try to custome install the only option it gives me is garage band. I cannot reinstall iPhoto or any other applications beside garage band. How do i get my iPhoto book themes back?

I tried this and it still did not work. What did work was to "Nuke" n "pave" (Reinstall Leopard and iLife 08 with the Erase and install). Thank god for the Time Machine.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Moving iWeb from iLife06 to iLife08

    Hi-
What is the correct method to move my "Domain" file that I saved from 06 and Tiger on my extHD, to my new Leopard system with iLife08? Thanks, Tim

    Hi-
I tried what you suggested and it seemed to have all my stuff on the iWeb, but all the folders are red/ not published, and there is an update window that opens. I click update, and it says updating, and then finally, it says there is not enough space on the disk. What am I doing wrong, and is there something I should so differently? I can reinstall iLife08 if necessary.??
    Thanks

  • Running iLife08 and FCE4 on PBG4?

    Hi guys,
I would like to upgrade to iLife08 and install FCE4 on my PowerBook G4 1,5GHz 1,25Go.
But before investing I would like your advice on if my config will be confortable enough for running them. I know that Apple minimum config says yes but????? what do YOU think?
    I hate "slow motion" apps!
I'm also planning to upgrade to Leopard but I have seen a post about it and after reading it I will upgrade.
Many thanks in advance for your advise...
    Nico

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Make sure you look over the iLife08 system requirements at http://www.apple.com/ilife/systemrequirements.html . You'll note that iMovie requires an Intel processor, so it won't work on your system.
    FCE4 requirements are at http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/specs.html

  • MacbookPro...what is speed when with iLife08 and  Adobe CS3...?

I will be buying a 17"Macbook Pro next month and I know that it will ship with iLife08. But am also going to be purchasing Adobe CS3. So with all these graphics heavy programs, any thing I should be aware of in terms of speed, specifically if I am editing a movie in iMovie? or importing a quicktime movie into a Web page design? I'm also going to be getting iWorks to do presentations. Lots of graphics. Plus I will be doing a lot of work editing photos in RAW in Photoshop.
It's a big investment and want to make sure that it's going to help me with my work rather than cause frustration because editing a movie will take as long as it does now on my G4 Powerbook.
Do I need to customize the Mac when I purchase it so that it has whatever it needs to run faster? I don't want to have to do this after I've purchased it if I don't have to.
Thank you from a non-techie type person--so please, in layman's terms! Would appreciate it.

RAM is very important for the tasks you mentioned, and the price Apple charges at the customization stage on their online store is obscene. Replacing the RAM on the MBP is very easy and I'll paste some links to help you decide whether you'll be up for the DIY install. And yes, you should experience a nice speed bump over a G4, even editing in HD.

  • Does iMac recovery DVDs include iLife08?

I just got my iMac yesterday. When I checked everything in my box, I found only two DVDs in it. One is for installing Mac OSX system and system apps, such as Mail, iCal, etc. The other dvd only including an Xcode folder. I can't find how to reinstall iLife08 packages that go with every new iMacs. So I just wonder if the iMac recovery DVDs can restore the system with iLife08 suit together? Or I still need to buy another iLife08 package in case I need to reinstall everything?

Thanks Simon. I just got this stupid question as the DVDs I found in the box this time is quit different from the CDs I found when I bought my iBook last time. In that box, there were 4 CDs with clearly OSX system, iLife04, ... labels on it. But this time, no iLife08 appeared on DVDs label. So I confused. Thanks a lot for this information.

  • How do I keep my iLife08 when I install Leopard???

I bought my Macbook a month ago and it came with Tiger 10.4.10, Leopard CD and iLife08 that was pre-installed in the system. Im thinking of changing my OS to Leopard through Erase and Install option but I want to keep iLife08. Is that possible?
    Thanks

You can do a clean install of Leopard and after that insert your Tiger DVD which came with your Mac. Click on Optional Installs and you can select which iLife apps (and other bundled apps that came with this Mac) you'd like to install.

  • .Mac account on one mac, iLife08 on the other

    Hi everybody,
I bought a mac (last year), purchased a dot mac account and published my website with it.
Last month I bought another mac (loaded with iLife08).
I would like to use iLife08 to retouch my website. Do I have to purchase a seperate account for the newer mac, or am I better off purchasing iLife08 for the older mac?
I'm just a bit confused on the account/publish situation.
    Thanks,
    BV

Your dotMac account thas nothing to do with your new Mac or iLife.
On your new Mac, enter your dotMac account details.
To use the same iWeb pages, you have to transfer your domain.site file to your new compiuter.
The file is in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
The only difference is that iWeb 08 publishes the pages in the Web/Sites folder on your iDisk.
iWeb 06 publishes the pages in the Web/Sites/iWeb folder.
When you publish with iWeb 08 it overrides the default pages. Your old iWeb 06 pages are not deleted.
Just get acquinted with the location and decide what to do. It's not technical. Just a way of organizing your stuff.

  • Ilife08 using MacBook Pro

Sorry for those who bothered to read my question five minutes ago. I couldn't figure out how to post a brand new message, but now I just did (obviously).
At any rate, I'm using iLife08 to create a new business website and I want to put a form on it (basically a listing of what services a client might want, etc, then they hit the send button and it will go directly to the business email account. How exactly do I put a form on a page in iLife?? I'm used to PC where you use HTML code to do it, but with iLife08, you don't need to rely on HTML at all -- it more or less takes care of it for you in the background.
Please let me know -- I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    J

There are ways around this. First, might I suggest you spend some time in the iWeb forum as there is a ton of resources to help you find tips and tricks to get around some of the limitations of iWeb.
For your form? I use wufoo.com and embed the form in my site as a web snippet. It works great and they have a great amount of flexibility.

  • In iLife08 what is best setting to convert avi 720 and digital video 1080i

What is the bottom line for best quality for 720 p TV.
1.) My import is digital video 1080i to i Movie 08 (full quality)
What should I use for sharing on AppleTV
    - the preset Large (which is 960x 540)
    - or some custom setting 25 fps at 1220x 720? ( H.264 display dimensions at 24/25 fps is 720p (1280x720) ) - or what should the setting be??
2.) Have Windows avi older 720 *480 video, what is best setting to convert this for Apple TV? The 640 setting on QuickTime premium is not very good
    Thank you so much. Peter

Your best option if you are using NTSC footage in imovie is the export to/movie large (960 x 540) at 30 fps, the resolution won't go any higher and still work on the tv. Don't even think about changing the framerate to 24/25 fps, even though you'll be able to export to 720p (1280 x720) changing the framerate will make your video jerky.
If you are using PAL then yes you could export to 720p (even though the specs say 24 fps, 25 fps does in fact work as well), you could try a few tests yourself but I've already done them and IMHO there is so little difference between 960 x 540 and 1280 x 720 that it isn't worth messing about setting up and trying several manual exports to get the best results when you can click one button and be done.
So far a AVI conversion is concerned, I'd try mpegstreamclip, but saying that I can't really be sure. AVI is a container not a codec and I would need to know what codec is actually used inside the container to answer your question properly (Quicktime may tell you though). The problem with AVI is that it is simply so old (even microsoft abandoned it over 10 years ago), unfortunately in a small number of cases some of the codecs that were used in AVI are simply no longer able to be converted. Probably not so likely but at least you are warned.

  • Slideshow Transitions No Longer Work After Installing iLife08

    Hi:
I previously used the '06 version of iPhoto, and the transitions I selected for my slideshows worked as expected. After upgrading to '08, the transitions no longer work, even if I reset them on some of the slides. It looks like there is no transition. I tried deleting the preference file and restarting, but no luck. I also used Software Update to get the latest iPhoto update. Anyone have a suggestion of how to fix? Thanks for any help.

    Andy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you repair disk permissions after updating? Download and run the 10.4.10 COMBO updater and the Quicktime 7.2 updater followed by a repair of disk permissions.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I import my iweb sites after re-installing ilife08

    I'm sweating a bit here.
I've just installed leopard, and have refreshed my hard drive (ie deleted it all)
I back up all my sites that I created in iweb, then re-installed ilife 08.
I can't retrieve my sites that I created into iweb.
    am I screwed?

    Hi there,
it depends on what you made a backup of...
Did you backup the Domain file?
    User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
If so you would just need to double click it...
If you didn't backup this file but did a backup of html pages then you will have to rebuild the site by copy and paste...

  • Installed iLife08 - now Epson Print CD won't open - HELP!

Hi everyone, not sure where this belongs. I recently installed iLife '08 and have just tried to use Epson Print CD for my R230, and it won't even open. It flashes briefly on the dock then just disappears.
    HELP PLEASE!

There was nothing wrong with the software. All working perfectly fine UNTIL I installed iLife '08. Anyways, after googling various possibilities, I downloaded an application called OnYx, did a dust and clean and all is good! Thanks anyways for trying to help!
PS. My disk utilities didn't do the trick but this other thing did.

  • Backup before you do anything in iLife08

iWeb 08 is to me very disappointing. The state of this app does not warrant a beta status let alone a shipping app. If you like to try it out make sure you back up both your domain file (user/library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain) as well as your iDisk (/Web/Sites/iWeb).
But I would recommend to wait until the next update. When iPhoto was updated the very same day it came out, I thought this was going to be a lemon...
I love the iLife Suite, so I hope Apple fixes this asap, this should NOT have been shipped.

Since I posted my intial comment, I have been sucessful in converting and uploading my iWeb 06 website to iWeb 08. There were a few crashes and deleting of pics and content of my website but thanks to backups I could always revert to the previous state quite easily. Here's how I did it:
First I've made a duplicate of the site, then I've deleted the .Mac info since iWeb 08 was always crashing on startup while it tried to contact .Mac.
1.) I've follwed the steps in this knowledgebase article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303306
That let iWeb start up and convert the website to iWeb 08. I have afterwards also always started iWeb by doubleclicking on the domain file and NOT via starting iWeb first and then selecting a domain file. I'm not sure if that actually helped but it did indeed work.
After each step I saved and quit iWeb to make another backup of my domain file (Ctrl-click and then "Duplicate").
2.) I have now checked the layout on every single page, some pages lost their theme association, so I had to reselect that theme. Also some page layout needed to be adjusted since now page elements are of a different size or placed differently. Again, save, quit, backup.
Do not rename the resulting Domain.sites2 file, this seems to mess with the way iWeb handles the internal organisation of the domain file. I gave it a more meaningful name but it destroyed my website completely and shrunk the website from 500MB so something like 3MB... Good thing I had that backup... Do the last step again and save, quit, backup.
3.) Upload the new website. Do not interrut this process! Wait until the "Your website has been published" dialogue comes up. Now all pages should be "blue". Save, quit, backup.
I could now access my new site online. Important I guess until now is that I have not yet changed any content from or added new functionality.
Now I've added a webgallery and it seems to be working ok. Knock on wood...
    Hope this helps!

  • Just installed iLife08, iDVD keeps crashing

I just installed the iLife 08 disk. Every program seems to work fine except iDVD, which crashes right after it opens. I probably won't use it much,a s I use DVD Studio Pro, however this is honking me off.
    Any suggestions?
