Illegal host/domain name found

Hi, i hit some error when reply mail to a mail account which is valid:
16-Mar-2006 16:11:26.98 tcp_local R 104 [email protected] rfc822;[email protected] [email protected] Illegal host/domain name found (TCP active open: Failed gethostbyname() on misty.sgx.com.my, resolver errno = 1)
from nslookup:
santomas.com.myServer: ns1.jaring.my
Address: 161.142.201.17
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: santomas.com.my
Address: 202.189.48.236
I'm not an expert on DNS, what cause this error? This domain with the account is valid.
Will "nomx" keyword put in under tcp_local in imta.cnf will solve ?

also:
set type=mx
santomas.com.myServer: ns1.jaring.my
Address: 161.142.201.17
santomas.com.my preference = 20, mail exchanger = meia.sgx.com.my
santomas.com.my preference = 30, mail exchanger = misty.sgx.com.my
santomas.com.my nameserver = ns1.nameserversecure.com
santomas.com.my nameserver = ns2.nameserversecure.com
ns1.nameserversecure.com internet address = 202.189.48.238
ns2.nameserversecure.com internet address = 202.189.48.239
there is not "nomx" keyword under tcp_local or default.....

  • Illegal host/domain name found - emails bouncing;

After using PhotoStream to post a picture on Facebook, my email asked me to confirm a password, which I've never had to do before. Now I can't send or receive email on the MacBook me.com account b/c an "illegal host/domain" message returns with the email. I don't know if I should be using the iCloud or my previous incoming mail server as the main server. Something changed after the PhotoStream attempt to connect the devices (iPhone and MacBook).
Anyone have any ideas? I read other posts, but didn't see the resolution.

I can now get emails to go OUT from my MacBook, but I can't receive them. Can get them just fine on the iPhone -- confusing!

  • I am seeing errors like:Status: 5.4.4 (Illegal host/domain name found). Almost all destinations have no A records, only MX records. The user can usually resend the message and it works.  Any ideas?

I do have MX in tcp_local in imta.cnf

The problem is not in the mail software, the problem is in your DNS system. 554 is a permenant failure which means that the MTA got an authoritative response from DNS reporting that the host/domain did not exist.
When the user tries again, the MTA queries again, and this time DNS responds with a positive response.
First see the NMS tuning guide and enable nscd, it might be related, not sure, can't hurt, will improve performance.
Your DNS server should be waiting until it gets a positive/negative response from the root servers. Sounds like that is not happening, maybe a timeout kicking in and causing it to return a authoritative answer (which is incorrect) and then on a subsequent query the response made it and thus the lookup works.

  • HT1277 how do I delete an 'illegal host domain'?????

When I sen a e-mail from  my me.com or mac.com accounts it bounces back to me with a header made of of a stiring of numbers and letters and a @me.com or @mac.com at the end... and 'illegal host domain found'... How can I get thei sto stop or deletit or expnd=ge it.. it just started about 4 days ago!  thanks for any help. Judi Dunn

Have you setup/changed to iCloud for eMail yet?
    MobileMe no longer exists.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • Business catalyst transfer hosting / domain name issues

    Hello,
Hopefully someone can help with this. There is no information to be found anywhere about this anywhere. So here goes..
-Basically I have a an old site using my  .com hosted away from CC. I also have a newer version of my website hosted at CC and using the same .com BUT using the 'Business catalyst" tag"
-I now want to shut down my old site hosted away from CC-to free up the .com so I can use me new website WITHOUT having to use the Business catalyst tag (While remain being hosted on CC)
This is what my other host has asked me to get - (and that Adobe has no information on)
    My old host:
"In order to transfer the domain name to your new provider (CC) you need to organise the following:
.co.uk domain - In order to transfer the .co.uk domain name,
we need to be given the new 'Nominet Tag' for your new provider (CC). We can then switch the tag at our end and your new provider (CC) can gain access to the domain name.
.com domain - In order to transfer the .com domain name, your new provider (CC) will need to request a transfer of the .com domain from their end. We have unlocked the domain so this can be requested. Once they have done this, we will be able to provide an authorisation code that will enable them to complete the transfer."
Please help. This is very confusing..
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!!

    Hi,
If planning on reusing a domain for another site...
First you need to remove the domain from our old site/host. Once you have done this you can then add your domain to whichever site you require.  Then set up your DNS accordingly whether you want to host with BC or externally.
    Adding domain references:
    http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1741

Let me know if you have any remaining concerns.

  • Host+Domain Name+Shopping Cart Package

Ok so I am going to create a small business website with not a lot of traffic. I am banking on iWeb 2 to release in January with HTML support so adding features like a shopping cart will be easier...but until then I have some questions.
Ok lets say my site is completed with about 10-15 pages.
I want to host other than .Mac...
-I decide to host with godaddy.com or something else
-Now I want my own domain name with total masking. I don't want to see any .Mac or iweb stuff in the site domain. So I is that easy with godaddy?
    Now the BIG question...
I want to sell several products on my site...assuming I now have iWeb 2 and it has HTML support, this shouldn't be that hard.
-Do I get the cart for $27 a month with Go Daddy or another host? Will that give me a totally incorporated cart bult into my website? Will is just give me HTML code to paste into iWeb?
-I would prefer an incorporated shopping cart compared to paypals free, external shopping cart.
Also, I would need a merchant account with godaddy, and who would work as the gateway for credit card payments?
Basically, once i have my site made, assuming iWeb 2 has HTML support, I just want to have a shoppig cart package that allows me to paste their HTML into iWeb and get a shopping cart that is totally internal to my site. I also want the merchant account and the whole gateway package to accept credit cards.
Any suggestions on the steps I should take on deciding the best host, domain masking feature, and shopping cart path I want???

Ok, It looks like GoDaddy and Verio both offer shopping cart features, but they are external...meaning you use their online software to create basically your own "Online Store". So I would link my iWeb site to this store...but they would look tottally different. Some thing with Verio.com
    https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/ecommerce/cart.asp?se=%2B&ci=278
What is the best solution for a shopping cart that uses HTML to paste into your existing website???

  • Migrating domain name to Business Catalyst

After playing with Muse for a while I am looking to publish my site shortly. My current hosting package is up in January so would like to move over to Business Catalyst rather than renew that if possible.
Current hosting comes with free email addresses associated with the domain name, one of which is printed on my business card. Is there a way to keep and migrate this or do I need to lose it and reprint cards with an updated address?

You have a couple options. Since you used Muse I will guess you are thinking on using your free hosting.
The free hosting is very basic and does not have email support. You will still need to keep your domain registered with where ever it is now. Adobe doesn't host domain names.
So what you need to do after you go live is to:
Either upgrade it to a paid site and you can set the DNS at your current registerar to ns1.worldsecuresystems.com and ns2.worldsecuresystems.com
    or
Just direct the A record in your domain settings where you have your domain to 192.150.2.140 and leave the MX record (email) with your current host.

  • Web Sharing with custom domain name

    Hi,
I am wondering if I can use a custom domain name with the built in web sharing. Instead of it going to http://10.0.0.2/ it will be http://www.mydomain.com/. Thanks in advance.
    Ryan

I have GoDaddy hosted domain name which I have setup to forward all web traffic to my ISP provided web page (eg http://my.webpage.ISP.com/account-name).
There is nothing magical about that URL. So I do not see any reason why you can not use your DynDNS.org name.

  • How many domain names can I transfer to Apple.

I have a family (me) account. Family of four/one biz. The family each has their own domain. The biz has 4 domains. Can I transfer all domains including the four biz domains to the apple/me account. Yes/No. Is there a limit?
Also about a year ago I tried to transfer (1) domain over, my sons. What I total nightmare. I finally just gave up all together and I believe I'm fairly savvy tech wise. But the transfer had me stumped. I would appreciate it if someone out there who has made a transfer from "Network Solutions" to "Apple" could give me a blow by blow on how too. I would really appreciate it.
    David

As Tom has said, you DO NOT transfer your domain names - Apple does not host domain names, they just host your MobileMe website.
What you need to do is enter the domain name into the personal domain name section of your MobileMe account and then go to the DNS settings at Host Excellence and set up a new CNAME forwarding for your domain name to web.me.com - this creates the link from your domain name to where your site is published at MobileMe - web.me.com.
You can have one CNAME forward for every MobileMe account so if you have a Family Pack, then one for the main account and one each for the 4 sub accounts, so 5 in total.
Once you have used up the 5 you have, if you want anymore then you just need to use ordinary web forwarding.

  • MORE THAN ONE DOMAIN NAME WITHIN MY MOBILEME ACCOUNT ?

I own more than one domain name. Can Mobileme host more than one of them and keep them separate for viewers so that somebody logging in to website 1 does not also get the files etc for website 2 ?

    mrs green wrote:
Can Mobileme host more than one of them...
Welcome to the discussions, Mrs Green. MobileMe doesn't host domain names +per se+ — MobileMe accepts a re-direction of a domain name to its servers. MobileMe will accept only one domain name re-directed via CNAME, but can accept more re-directed domain names via "WebForwarding".
...and keep them separate for viewers so that somebody logging in to website 1 does not also get the files etc for website 2 ?

  • Postfix relay=none, ... status=deferred (Host or domain name not found...

    Hi,
I actually posted this question 2 weeks ago but under the wrong topic. So, first of all wanted to apologise for double-posting... but since no one replied, I thought I'd try again under the right topic.
I've been trying to solve this all day today (that was Feb 26th). I used to be able to send emails but for some reason it does not work anymore. At first I thought it was a problem with php (I use entropy pack php 5.2.6) but after searching the topic, I think it is a problem with my network. BTW OS is 10.5.5 and Postfix version 2.4.3
First of all, after computer restart, I don't think postfix starts automatically
Running 'sudo postfix start' gives me:
postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system
    Looking at '/var/log/mail.log' I find:
    Feb 27 12:51:04 AMs-MBP postfix/qmgr331: AA70A7A7C77: from=<[email protected]>, size=842, nrcpt=1 (queue active)

Running 'sudo postfix check' does not give me any errors
Checking my '/etc/resolv.conf' it has nameserver 192.168.1.1
    Running 'ifconfig | grep netmask | grep -v 127.0.0.1 | awk {'print $2'}L' gives:
    192.168.1.5
Checking http://switch.richard5.net/2006/08/19/fatal-open-lock-file-pidmasterpid/ and running 'launchctl list' gives me a long list but no item matches org.postfix.master
    Running 'ps aux|grep postfix' gives

Running 'postconf inet_interfaces' at first gave me
    inet_interfaces = localhost
which I changed to All in '/etc/postfix/main.cf'
    I looked at http://www.postfix-book.com/debugging.html
Running 'telnet localhost 25' gives me

But running 'telnet 10.1.2.233 25' gives me
    Trying 10.1.2.233...
telnet: connect to address 10.1.2.233: Operation timed out
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
Running 'ping 134.169.9.107' takes a long time. After a while I stop it and get:
    PING 134.169.9.107 (134.169.9.107): 56 data bytes

I have not idea what the problem is and/or how to fix it. I know the messages get to the postfix daemon but for some reason they do not continue on their way.
Please, does anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
    TIA,
    Elle

Dynamic IP addresses with DynDNS Updater (or equivalent) makes it pretty darned reliable, particularly if you buy DynDNS' Mailhop Forward service, which prevents the likes of roadrunner.com and aol.com from blocking mail coming from your server just because it lives in dynamicIP-land. Way cheaper than paying your ISP extra for a static IPA, too, and totally acceptable for low-volume, residential-based servers for personal not-for-profit use.
Regarding reliable delivery to a dynIPA server, you are only at risk of non-receipt for perhaps a few minutes immediately following when your ISP rotates your WAN IPA, until DynDNS Updater (or equivalent) updates the DynDNS (or equivalent) servers with your new WAN IPA. But that's really not a problem because I think all, well, okay, most, smtp servers will queue for a redelivery attempt if the initial delivery attempt just happens to occur at that time.
I wouldn't suggest this practice for high-volume enterprise-class servers or for people trying to run a bootleg mail server business for profit (besides, the ISP would shut it down as an abuse of terms of service, anyways), but for low-volume, residential-based servers for personal use and enjoyment, which I suspect is the case for the O.P., I can't say that I find anything unreliable about my dynamic IP-based mail server.

  • Domain name/host name/external hosts

I have an external website, for argument sake: waterworld.net
I want to host the mail internally, and i have set up DNS records with my name registrar that has the A record point to my external web host, and I have created an MX record of "mail.waterworld.net" which points to the ip address of where I am hosting the mail server.
Should i give my server a name that looks like a fqdn based on my website? or should it be called something simple like "server.loc"? currently, that is what I have done.
Then in the general settings of the mail server, under Domain name (where it reads: enter the LOCAL internet domain name), should I use:
    server.loc
    waterworld.net, or
    mail.waterworld.net
Then the next option, Hostname, I am guessing that is one of:
    waterworld.net, or
    mail.waterworld.net
I have done a search, and the closest I have found was this post, but it's a different question based around a similar situation.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10580535&#10580535
I am not a total newbie, and have been running my own mail server for a few years now, and I'm pretty sure I didn't do it correct last time, so thought I would try and get it right from the start this time. Sorry guys, if this is a really basic question, but I want to get this right.
    thanks

Then in the general settings of the mail server, under Domain name (where it reads: enter the LOCAL internet domain name), should I use:
    [snip]
This field sets the primary domain of the server - the domain it accepts mail for. in this case it would make sense to set 'waterworld.net'.
    Then the next option, Hostname,
This sets the name it advertises itself as when sending outgoing mail. This should be mail.waterworld.net.

  • Problem with external domain name and hosting

Hi I have my own domain name and hosting plan I want to use. However, I have trouble pointing my site from BC to my server.
I found the following information but in my case "create A-Records" is not available on the "Site Domains". Please advise.
    Thanks.

Point externally hosted domains to your Business Catalyst site
If you have chosen to use external DNS service for your domain name, create A-Records for both the www and non-www versions of your domain name. Then, point them to your site, which resides on one of the following IP addresses:

    Hi
Can you please confirm that there is no “Create A records” option under “More Actions” ?
