IllegalStateException in setRollbackOnly

Hi,
We are using weblogic6.0 sp2, sometimes we got the following exception in ejbStore's
setRollbackOnly, but sometimes, the setRollbackOnly passed smoothly. I checked ejb
specification, they do not restrict call on setRollbackOnly in ejbStore.
Any comments?
Thanks
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Illegal call to EJBContext method. The EJB specification
(See Section 9.6.5, for example.) places restrictions on the methods that may be
invoked during certain phases of a bean's lifecycle. One of these restrictions has
been violated.

Check the right specification.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think WLS 6.0 sp2 uses the EJB 2.0 DRAFT #1.
This is not very good. You should upgrade.

  • Error marking transaction for rollback: java.lang.IllegalStateException in WLI 6.1 SP3

    Hi,
    The following exception occurs, when the workflow was waiting after it has made
    a synchronous call to an external system through WTC Interface.
    I had read Rob's comments earlier for WLI 6.1 SP1 on this exception that there
    would be a fix available for it in the next minor release. For your information,
    I had got this exception in WLI 6.1 SP3. Is still EJB Container's timeout excels
    the JTA's timeout? Can anybody help me out to find a fix for this problem?

    You could change the transaction timeout value, but I'd re-examine the
    application and see if the transaction times could be reduced some.
    29 seconds seems like a long time.

    This happens, when i call over ESB a BPEL which fails and a exception is thrown. But it occurs only every second invoke....

    Hi Dave,
    after some tests i get the feeling, that this problem is caused in the BPELConsole.
    1. I start a BPEL1 with wait for 2 min from BPELConsole. after 2 min i get:
    <Faulthttp://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/>
    <faultcode>env:Server</faultcode>
    <faultstring>java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot call setRollbackOnly() current thread is NOT associated with a transaction</faultstring>
    </Fault>
    But in the audit trail i see the "right" output at the end.
    2. I start a BPEL2 which invokes the 2min wait (BPEL1). after 2 min i get:
    <Fault http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/>
    <faultcode>env:Server</faultcode>
    <faultstring>java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot call setRollbackOnly() current thread is NOT associated with a transaction</faultstring>
    </Fault>
    But in the audit trail for the BPEL2 i can see the "right output at the end and the right response from BPEL1.
    Conclusion:
    BPEL1 does not get a timeout, because if this is the case, BPEL2 should never see the response of BPEL1.
    => the BPELConsole is the one with the problem.....?!
    UPDATE
    The conclusion was wrong. I tested the BPEL with a java proxy and got the same error ;-(

    My question is when a pair of MDB and SSB is used does SSB LOOSES it's transaction

    BContext.setRollbackOnly() from an EJB that was not participating in a transaction

    Deyan,
    I assumed that Saurabh's statement that SSB1 has Required attribute is true.
    The Spec says:
    "17.6.2.8 Handling of setRollbackOnly() method
    The Container must handle the EJBContext.setRollbackOnly() method
    invoked from a business method executing with the Required, RequiresNew,
    or Mandatory transaction attribute as follows:
    - The Container must ensure that the transaction will never commit.
    Typically, the Container instructs the transaction manager to mark the
    transaction for rollback.
    I'd guess that TX gets rolled back as soon as control returned
    to the container from dispatched method called setRollbackOnly().
    As you can see, the Spec allows it and it does make sence
    taking in account cost of holding TX.

    Slava,
    According to the EJB spec the transaction should not end just because at
    some point it was marked for rollback, only that it should never commit.
    The EJB should still be able to call setRollbackOnly without any problems.
    It look more like the transaction context is either never created or
    lost somehow.
    And if there is no transactional context
    SessionContext.getRollbackOnly() will throw the same exception (EJB 2.0
    Section 7.6.1 for stateful and Section 7.8.2 for stateless session EJBs).
    So I'd start by making sure that the EJB is not marked with BMT and
    "Required" TX attribute -- in that case the EJB will use BMT and the TX
    attribute is ignored.
    Another way to see that there is a transaction is to use
    System.out.println(weblogic.transaction.TxHelper.getTransaction); to
    print the current transaction and verify that there is actually one.

  • IllegalStateException when changing display mode of JFrame

    My application has an information console inside a JFrame. The console is continually updating and repainting.
    I let the user drag this window wherever they want, resize it how they want, etc. I also give them the ability to select one of three display modes:
    - "Decorated Window"
    - "Undecorated Maximized Window"
    - "Undecorated Fullscreen Exclusive Window"
    The toggling between modes normally works well, but occasionally an "IllegalStateException: Buffers have not yet been created" is thrown by (from what I can tell), a component on the console that's trying to be repainted.
    Seems obvious to me that something doesn't like the fact that the JFrame has been disposed for an instant and can't deal with it appropriately. Question is, what the hell can I do about it?
    I believe everything continues fine despite the exception (although I have a hard time reproducing on my system), but still, it's a wart and I'd like to chop it off.
    Here's my code for changing the window mode.
    public void setDisplayMode(Component parent,
             ConsoleDisplayMode newDisplayMode) {
         GraphicsDevice device = this.getGraphicsConfiguration().getDevice();
         int state;
         switch (newDisplayMode) {
         case DisplayAsDecoratedWindow:
             // Add the decorations
             this.dispose();
             this.setUndecorated(false);
             this.setVisible(true);

             state = this.getExtendedState();
             state &= ~JFrame.ICONIFIED;
             this.setExtendedState(state);
             // Minimize
             state = this.getExtendedState();
             state &= ~JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH;
             this.setExtendedState(state);
             break;
         case DisplayAsUndecoratedWindow:

    Since you're using EJBs, you can use JTA and can skip the getTransaction() calls. If you want to use getTransaction().begin() and commit(), then make sure that your EntityManager is resource-local. The configuration for this is in persistence.xml. Set a transaction-type of RESOURCE_LOCAL rather than JTA.

    The portlet being included includes a farily simple ADF Query and Table component. It was included as a ADF Rich Portlet.
    There was an earlier thread that seemed to have the same issue: consuming portlet get error <ADF_FACES-60096:Server Exception during PPR>
    It is marked as answered but the answer was a series of steps including stopping the portal, server, redeploying the portlet, and restarting. It also suggested deleting any unused bindings from the Executable section of the page. These steps failed to fix my issue.
    Has anyone else seen this issue and found a concrete fix for it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • IllegalStateException while requesting a JSF page

    Hello all,

    By the way: the application runes fine on a jboss.
    thanks a lot,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
    The reason for this exception is that the WAS uses a pool of request objects. So when one request-response cycle ends, the participated request and response objects are returned back in the pool to be used for next client request.
    So this exception means that your application has somehow a reference to request object that is already returned back in the pool and any method invocation on this object is prohibited.
    Please check for such behavior.
    Regards,
    Diyan

    Java Plug-in 1.4.0 throws an IllegalStateException: zip file closed

    A IllegalStateException is thrown when the class loader
    try to load a class from my applet JAR file.
    The applet is embedded in a JSP page which use the Plug-In 1.4.0.
    That JSP is hosted by Tomcat 4.0.1.
    The applet JAR file is signed with a self-signed certificate.
    The applet has been compiled with JDK 1.4.0.
    The jar has been put in the Plug-in cache successfully.

    I've got a very similar error, but unfortuneatly I don't have an answer yet. The only difference is that my Applet is embedded in a standard HTML page, and loaded via Apache. Once the Applet runs, it then communicates with the servlet via Tomcat. I also exchange data with another server task via CORBA.
    But everything else is the same, self-signed applet, applet compiles successfully, and jar is being put in the Plug-in Caceh successfully.
    I have narrowed the problem down a bit, and maybe you can tell me if you're in a similar situation:
    In my case, I need to encrypt the data that I'm sending through CORBA, so I create a Cipher object using Cipher.getInstance(). This method call seems to be the catalyst of my troubles. No matter where I move that call in my code, the next time the code tries to instantiate a class defined in my applet jar file after that "getInstance" call, I get the "zip file closed error." It's like the classloader is confused, because the Cipher.getInstance method would be accessing a different jar file or something. Are you trying to do something similar? Maybe not creating a Cipher, but creating some other object defined outside your own jar-file?
    To top it off, if I disable caching in the Plugin control panel, everything works fine. But that's not really an option for me, since it slows things down a lot, and I can't make all my users go into their control panels and disable caching. But at leasts it makes me confident that there's not a problem with my code.
    In my latest attempt to circumvent this problem, I even put the Cipher.getInstance() call in a static initializer. Here's the stack trace from that attempt:
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: zip file closed
    at java.util.zip.ZipFile.getEntry(Unknown Source)
    at java.util.jar.JarFile.getEntry(Unknown Source)
    at sun.plugin.cache.CachedJarFile.getEntry(Unknown Source)
    at java.util.jar.JarFile.getJarEntry(Unknown Source)
    at sun.misc.URLClassPath$JarLoader.getResource(Unknown Source)
    at sun.misc.URLClassPath.getResource(Unknown Source)
    at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source)
    at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
    at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source)
    at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source)
    at sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
    at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(Unknown Source)
    at com.uss.wbi.client.WBIClient.<init>(WBIClient.java:404)
    at com.uss.wbi.client.WBIApplet.init(WBIApplet.java:122)
    at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
    In other words, since the getInstance method is in a static initializer, the next thing to run is the applet.init(), which is what is failing now. If I move the Cipher.getInstance method into the client constructor, the next time I instantiate a new object, I'll get the error there.
    Has anybody else seen anything like this? Or does anybody know how I can flush the Cache from the applet code? Or can I reset the ClassLoader in some way in the code?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Well, I finally came to a solution that is acceptable at least to me, if not ideal. I've started using the BouncyCastle lightweight API. This makes my code somewhat more complicated, and I had to bundle up all the BouncyCastle classes that I'm using into a jar file, and download that to my applet along with my client jar file (after signing the jar files). Using this Lightweight API bypasses the Cipher.getInstance() method all together, and is a little harder to use, but at least everything is working consistently now.
    I still believe this to be a bug either in the ClassLoader or the Cipher.getInstance() method. I intend to try to write a test applet that reproduces the error in a more simple way and if I can pull that off, I'll submit a bug report to Sun.
    Thanks to all who responded!!
    Steve

  • Java.lang.IllegalStateException when trying to load graphic from KM

    Hello,
    I'm currently facing the following problems.We have a bunch of SVG graphics in a KM-Repository which are displayed to the user. The graphics are embedded in a JSP file. In most of the cases this works fine, but for users with a low bandwith this does not work. An error message is written to the logfile which looks like that:
    serving request (-> 500) - java.lang.IllegalStateException: GET on
    http://ourserver.com/irj/go/km/docs/ourRepository/myGraphic.svg expected 377950 bytes, but got
    262144 bytes and wrote 196608 bytes. The exception message is: Write timeout. HTTP client read
    timeout or callback from dispatcher not received for [120000] milliseconds. -

         at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:853) ...
    Some more facts:
    The problem occors on different graphics
    The values 262144 and 196608 (from but got 262144 bytes and wrote 196608 bytes) come up in most cases, but sometimes they vary. But all values have in common, that they are a multiple of 4096 (which is the setting of the parameter ServletsLongDataTransferCallbackSize.
    According to the SAP Notes 1014039 and 807000 I adapted some settings in our Testsystem:
    ServletsLongDataTransferCallbackSize: 1024 (which was set to 4096 before)
    ServletInputStreamTimeout: 1728000000 (which was set to 180000 before)
    ServletsLongDataTransferTimeout: 1728000000 (which was set to  120000 before)
    Unfortunatelly setting those parameters didn't fix the problem.
    Does anybody have a clue what I can do? And just for my understanding, what exactly does the parameter, that I have set, effect. The initial values of 180000 (3 Minutes) seem to be enough. Loading 377950 bytes should take much less that 3 Minutes even with a slow connection?
    Kind regards,
    dominik

  • Exporting a PDF from an ATG servlet: IllegalStateException: Response already committed

    High-level question
    When a custom servlet in my ATG servlet pipeline writes a PDF document into the HTTP response output stream, although the PDF is delivered to the user's client browser successfully, an error is logged on the server: Servlet failed with Exception  java.lang.IllegalStateException: Response already committed".  Why does this occur?
    Details
    My ATG 10.1.2 application has a requirement to be able to generate and return to the client browser a PDF document when a particular button on the site is clicked.
    Although I'm not sure whether or not it's an ATG best practice, the approach that I landed on for this was to insert a new custom servlet, "PdfExportServlet", into the ATG servlet pipeline.  The PdfExportServlet, for requests that it determines are PDF requests and decides to handle, generates the PDF content (using the Jasper Reports engine), and writes the PDF content to the HTTP response output stream.  Here's the relevant portion of the code:
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    // (...Code that generates a JasperPrint object with the PDF content...)
    final byte[] pdfBinaryContent = JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdf(jasperPrint);
    response.setContentLength(pdfBinaryContent.length);
    final ServletOutputStream outputStream = response.getOutputStream();
    outputStream.write(pdfBinaryContent);
    outputStream.flush();
    outputStream.close();
    This works fine, and the PDF does display in the client browser.  However, an error is also logged in the application's log file on the server:
    <WL-101020> <[ServletContext@1369332778[app:storeFront module:shop path:/shop spec-version:2.5]] Servlet failed with Exception
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: Response already committed

        at atg.servlet.GenericFilterService.doFilterChain(GenericFilterService.java:621)
    A frustrating thing about this error which had made it difficult to troubleshoot is that it does not occur on my local development PC; this log message only appears when the application is running on one of our pre-production or production servers.  This has made trying to rapidly iterate through multiple possible solutions problematic, as each change to the code requires a fresh deployment to our shared pre-production server, which is time-consuming.
    I have tried the following variations on the above code, neither of which has produced a change in the manifestation of the issue (the error message appearing in the log):
    Added a call to response.flushBuffer() after the call to outputStream.close(), on the theory that this might serve to notify downstream servlets that the request has already been committed and no further attempts to modify and/or commit the request should be made.
    Removed the calls to outputStream.flush() and outputStream.close(), on the theory that some downstream servlet pipeline member (TailPipelineServlet?) might be responsible for closing out the outputStream, and trying to do that prematurely was responsible for the error.
    I also so far haven't found anything relevant in the ATG/Oracle documentation that might provide a clue as to what's going on here, or what the general best practice is regarding having a custom servlet in the ATG pipeline that outputs to the response's outputStream.
    Any advice regarding the root cause of this error and/or what should be done to fix it would be most welcome!
    Thanks,
    -Jon

  • Java.lang.IllegalStateException: duplicate Id for a component

    Hi everyone,
    please I'm really having a serious issue on the duplicate id for a component in view.
    I have a page of which I used the <jsp:include> tag to add to some pages of my application.
    The page have the following code snippet in it
    <%@taglib prefix="f" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"%>
    <%@taglib prefix="h" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"%>
    <%@taglib prefix="a4j" uri="http://richfaces.org/a4j"%>
    <%@taglib prefix="rich" uri="http://richfaces.org/rich"%>
    <f:subview id="footerView">
          <table width="80%" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="1">
          <tr>
              <td>
                   <h:outputLink id="homeLink" value="#{facesContext.externalContext.requestContextPath}/index.jsf"
                                 rendered="#{facesContext.viewRoot.viewId != '/index.jsp'}">
                        <h:outputText value="Home |"/>
                    </h:outputLink>
              </td>
             </tr>
          </table>
    </f:subview>The problem is that I always get this exception :
        java.lang.IllegalStateException: duplicate Id for a component footerView:homeLink
         org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxStateManager$TreeStrutureNode.apply(AjaxStateManager.java:326)
         org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxStateManager$TreeStrutureNode.apply(AjaxStateManager.java:348)
         org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxStateManager$TreeStrutureNode.apply(AjaxStateManager.java:348)
         org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxStateManager.saveSerializedView(AjaxStateManager.java:236)
            .........This exception always occurs whenever I tried invoking an action or event call in like the ones listed
    below in any of the enclosing page..
    <h:selectOneRadio immediate="true" required="true" id="optionsRadio" value="#{myBean.optionType}" layout="lineDirection"valueChangeListener="#{eventBean.updateOptionTypeEvent}">
         <f:selectItems value="#{listManagerBean.staticListDataMap['OPTION_TYPE']}"/>
         <a4j:support ajaxSingle="true" ignoreDupResponses="true" immediate="true" event="onblur"/>
    </h:selectOneRadio>
    OR
    <a4j:commandButton type="submit" value="Submit Now!" action="#{bean.someAction}"/>
          <h:commandButton type="submit" value="Click Me"/>Yet there is no other component in view with the said id "footerView:homeLink".
    So I'm really at a loss on what to do.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, I have the same issue.
    In my case I have a page that includes one page with richfaces components and if another link is clicked, it includes anotherone without richfaces.
    But both included pages contain some identical subpages.
    Everytime I call the page with the richfaces components and then the other one I get
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: duplicate Id for a component webSourceSetupForm:executionTab:executionTable:executionDayList
         org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxStateManager$TreeStrutureNode.apply(AjaxStateManager.java:442)
         org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxStateManager$TreeStrutureNode.apply(AjaxStateManager.java:464)This worked fine before I added richfaces....
    The id is even different in both cases. in on it is webSourceSetupForm:executionTab:executionTable:executionDayList in the other jdbcSourceSetupForm:executionTab:executionTable:executionDayList
    Did you find a solution to the problem?
    Anyone has any idea?
    Thank you,
    Mathis

  • Java.lang.IllegalStateException in tomahawk tree 2

    Hi,
    I am getting the following exception in tomahawk tree2 while fetching the data from database and constructing the tree:
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: Encountered a node [0:0:0] + with an illogical state. Node is expanded but it is also considered a leaf (a leaf cannot be considered expanded
    Here is the function which returns the tree data:
    public TreeNode getTreeData()
    TreeNode treeData = new TreeNodeBase("foo-folder", "First", false);      Enumeration keys = topMostNodes.keys();
    while(keys.hasMoreElements()){
    String currKey = keys.nextElement().toString();
    Vector tempChildList = (Vector)topMostNodes.get(currKey);
    TreeNodeBase tempNodeBase = new TreeNodeBase("foo-folder", currKey, false);
    for(int cnt=0; cnt < tempChildList.size(); cnt++)
    tempNodeBase.getChildren().add(new TreeNodeBase("foo-folder",tempChildList.get(cnt).toString(),true));
    treeData.getChildren().add(tempNodeBase);
    return treeData;
    The topMostNodes HashTable contanis these entries:
    parent 170160 childList [108858, 152338, 306438]
    parent 106404 childList [306304]
    parent 106402 childList [106406, 106407, 106408]
    parent 106401 childList [106404]
    parent 106400 childList [106403, 106405]

    childList is a vector containing all the children of a node.
    This is the stack Trace of the exception I am getting:
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: Encountered a node [0:0:0] + with an illogical state. Node is expanded but it is also considered a leaf (a leaf cannot be considered expanded.

    Can anybody help plz?
    Thanks in advance.
