Illlustrator CC can't save back to Illustrator 3...

I have a file that was created sometime ago (Illustrator CS5-ish). I am able to open the file in CC just fine. I open the file and then:
convert all of the type to outlines
delete a background box that contains a gradient (no other gradients exist)
flatten the file so it only contains one layer
delete unused panel items
make sure all strokes are converted to outlines
Double-checking the file I make sure there are no stray text paths.
When I save back to Illustrator 3, I get the usual warning about saving to a legacy version. To test the file I try to reopen the file with CC at which point I receive the error:
Offending operator: {ps_metadata_stream}
Context: Ǫè
When I go back through the entire process and try to save the file to Illustrator 8, upon opening the file I receive the error:
Offending operator: {ps_metadata_stream}
Context: ı©7
It wasn't until I ungrouped everything (5 nested groups) and then tried to save the file to versions 3 and 8 that it actually allowed me to open the files again. The only reason I thought to try and remove the groups was because I was trying to remember what current features were actually supported in version 3 (not a lot of them); that's been a really long time ago.
Apparently Illustrator CC doesn't dilligently reduce files for compatibility. I had to save to this older version for sending to one of my clients who uses a cad software (SolidWorks) for importing the graphics into models.
Hope this helps someone.

Thanks Raghuveer,
I received your e-mail and am uploading the files presently.
When trying to replicate my results, (thought I had documented everything), I didn't get them at first when trying to save the files out for you. Then I noticed what was happening....
When I use "Save As Copy" with this particular file, upon reopening the newly saved file I get no error.
When I use "Save As" and save the file in the Versions 3 or 8 format, I then get the error upon reopening.
It appears that groups have nothing to do with it.

Really need to be able to save back to the older versions, in order to output vector files on an older plotter. Running an older application of Mac sign from Softeam, can't get in touch with them. Total pain to upgrade, been dumbing down for too many years.

  • Open Photos directly from server, edit, can't save back. Inconsistent.

Server is Dual 2.3ghz, with 6 gigs RAM, XRAID with Raid 5 for 2.5 TB. We have artists who are opening photos into Photoshop CS2, using Mac 10.4.4 clients on server that happens to be running 10.4.3 (plan to update it tonight). Edit the photos and do a "Save" or "Save As" and 75% of the time they get an error message saying "don't have right access." Now this user has write access based on the group. Permissions is Standard Behavior inherited by the group so we don't worry about Posix ownership problems when others drop in folders. The user can drag and drop and never have issue. It is only when saving. Now I know that Adobe doesn't support opening any file opened directly from a server on any of their products (ie. won't troubleshoot multiple network and or file services). This doesn't happen with any other app. 25% of time no problem. So it is Server or Photoshop?

Here is my two cents on this issue. It appears that Photoshop does some of its own permissions checking instead of just relying on the OS.
Here is the situation I see and how I make photoshop work right. I have ACLs set up on my share to allow access for the correct groups. When a file is created by a user, lets say 'joeuser' it gets created as such
    -rw-r--r-- + 1 joeuser group 724482 Feb 12 16:20 file.psd
Notice that the posix group doesn't have write access. At this point if 'janeuser' tries to open and edit file.psd in Photoshop she will not be able to save, even though my ACLs give her write access.
    Now if I run:
    chmod g+w file.psd
Photoshop will allow janeuser to save that file as long as she is a member of 'group'.
The short version is that Photoshop seems to ignore ACLs, then tell you the file is locked.

  • I am able to click on a picture in iPhoto to edit it opens automatically in photoshop cs6.  However when i am done editing I can not save that image back into iPhoto.  Can anyone help with a setting I am missing maybe?

I am able to click on a pic in iphoto to edit it and opens automatically in photoshop CS6. However when I am done editing and save I can not save back into Iphoto.  Can any one help wiht this?

Thanks Terence. What a relief. I still don't understand what the book I read was talking about then. Here's a quote from the section I was referring to in "iPhoto 08: The Missing Manual" book, p 91 (ISBN: 0596-516185):
"Note, however, that the instant you edit a TIFF-format photo (Chapter 7), iPhoto converts it into JPEG.
That's fine if you plan to order prints or a photo book (Chapter 11) from iPhoto, since JPEG files are required for those purposes. But if you took that once-in-a-lifetime, priceless shot as a TIFF file, don't do any editing in iPhoto-don't even rotate it- if you hope to maintain its perfect, pristine quality."
After my test results, I thought maybe this was something that had changed from iPhoto 08 to iPhoto 09, so I went to the bookstore yesterday and checked the same book for iPhoto 09, and there it was, the same quote! (on a different page, of course).
Anyway, thanks once again for your confirmation that my test was indeed correct. Linda

  • Can't save illustrator documents

iMac 3.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.9.4
Whenever I try and save a document just recently, I get this message
"Can't save the illustration. You do not have enough access privileges. ID: -5000"
    HELP

Then you have an iMac Intel, not a PPC.    Now, since you haven't installed a security update, and you are sure you haven't the only reason the documents may not save is that the installation was not good.   Be sure first your data is backed up.  Try to run the installer for Office inside the Installer folder, and to be doubly certain, download the latest Office v.X patch.  If it still doesn't work, you may want to try an Office alternative such as NeoOffice, OpenOffice, Google Docs, or Zoho Writer.

  • Illustrator Can't Save Illustration

I am using Illustrator 10 and I get a message that says "Can't save illustration" sometimes. This does not happen all the time. I can save the file as an EPS file when I can't save it as an illustrator file. Today I got another message after trying to click save when the can't save illustration message appeared. This message said that "You are saving this document in Adobe Illustrator 1.0/1.1 format. Saving this document in an older format may disable some editing features when the document is read back in. I was trying to save it in Illustrator 10 as an Illustrator 10 file. The only versions of Illustrator that have been on my computer are Illustrator 9,10 and CS. I did try uninstalling everything and just installing 10, but the problem still persists. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Diane

    Diane,
The issue may have a number of causes:
If it is corrupted preferences, you may may try to
Move the folder. The strangeness of Illy versions may indicate something like that.
It may also be something about fonts, in which case removing type should change it, or that the artwork extends outside the workspace.
Can you save to PDF, keeping Illustrator editing capabilities?

  • Can't save in Illustrator CS2

    Hi Group,
I posted on the 25th Oct:-
"Have updated to CS2, everything fine except in Illustrator.
When saving work in the "Save as" or "Save a copy" I get "an unknown error
    has occurred"
Even if I open work made prior to the upgrade from CS and then amend it, I
get the same "an unknown error has occurred", when I try to save it
I can save in other formats without problem, but I can't save my work in the
Illustrator format to return to later.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled without success.
Please has anyone else come across this, or can anybody advise a solution to
    this problem?
Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.
    David "
Since then I have checked the Adobe forum for Illustrator and there appears
to be considerable traffic on this apparent "BUG" in illustrator, it also
seems to be hitting CS as well as CS2.
I find it amazing that Adobe can release software with problems such as
this. How can their credibility withstand issuing software that can't even
save in its own natural format.
It would appear that this bug was evident way back in March, yet here we are
still suffering in November, more that 8 months and still no word from
    Adobe.
Any self respecting company would have pulled the offending software from
the shelves until they had a solution, yet Adobe seems not to have even
    responded to the problem.
I'm sure there must be thousands of us out here that paid for this defective Adobe software and received a load of junk for their money.
If you feel as strongly as I do about it, how about a mass mailing to the
Adobe forums and let them know how you feel. They might eventually get the
    message.
    David

    Shane,
Might I suggest some additional questions?
Does your file contain text? If so, does the problem occur with files that don't contain text?
What other Adobe applications and versions do you have installed?
What version(s) of Illustrator were you using before you installed your current version?
Did you install a tryout version of Illustrator before you installed the regular version?
What version of Windows are you on? What service packs have you installed?
Are you an administrator of your machine?
Are you using any font management utilities? If so, which ones and what version?
And whatever instructions you usually give for finding out about relevant Adobe common files. (I don't know what those instructions are.)
The only common pattern I have noticed in the forum posts is that the saving difficulties seem to be related to text, and that the only reliable solution is to manually remove all Adobe software including the Common Files and the registry entries from the machine and reinstall all the Adobe applications. This "solution" is daunting and undoubtably overkill; most likely there are just one or two PDF-related conflicting files and/or registry entries that must be removed, but there is insufficient data to identify which ones they are. Simply uninstalling and reinstalling CS or CS2 does not work.
(For more than a month ever since I upgraded to Microsoft Office 2004 as part of Adobe's Exchange migration I have had the same kind of problem with Microsoft Entourage, that it will not access my Exchange account. Nobody else here at Adobe is having this problem, and it is almost certainly is due to the fact that I had previously been using a very early version of Microsoft Office X, one that was released concurrently with OS X itself, and had not updated it for many years. The installer for Office 2004 apparently left some incompatible common framework on my machine, which it is not prepared to correctly detect and remove or update because nobody at Microsoft had such a stale environment.)

  • Back save to previous Illustrator version flattens all layers.

I am very dissapointed in Illustrator CS6. I sell stock illustration which, in order to meet my stock art company's standards, needs o be saved back to either Illustrator 8 or 10 EPS versions. This is something I could do easily in CS5. Now, if I save back a CS6 file to an AI8 or AI10 EPS the file is flattend and I lose the layer structure I created.
The reason I create named layers is so that the purchaser can easily find elements and make edits to the file. The stock service will not accept artwork that is not properly labeled. If there is a setting I can change or a workaround I can use please let me know. Otherwise, the CS6 version of illustrator is unusable for making commercial (sellable) illustration.

I just did some additional testing. Adobe seems to have fixed this bug in Illustrator CS6 iCloud subscriptions. I am now able to save back to AI10 EPS. Gradients and transparencies are not flattened and retain their vector editability—even on complex illustration. Layers are still visible and labled properly.
Be sure to choose "High Resolution" transparency in the save as EPS dialog settings for illustrations with transparency.
Thank You Adobe! This was an important fix.

  • I can't save *new* documents back to SharePoint

I can’t save *new* documents back to SharePoint. We have a SharePoint 2013 development environment, running on Windows Server 2012 and a Windows 7 Client Computer with Office 2010.
Every time I click „new document“, SharePoint opens the corresponding template file in the client application (Word, Excel,…) So far, so good. When i select „Save“, the client application brings up a local save path on the client computer, not the SharePoint
    document library.
I did some research and tried many approaches, but none of them worked.
I installed the Desktop Experience Feature on the Windows Server 2012, added the server address to trusted sites, gave the user farm-administrator rights (to make sure it is no security problem) and switched the authentication mode for the web application.
Does anyone know this problem and found a solution?

    Hi,
For troubleshooting your issue, you can try to add a registry value to your local registry (on a machine with Office Applications installed through which you are accessing SharePoint sites):
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-String Value.
Type AuthForwardServerList, and then press ENTER.
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
In the Value data box, type the URL of the server that hosts the Web share, and then click OK.
Note You can also type a list of URLs in the Value data box. For more information, see the "Sample URL list" section in this article.
    Exit Registry Editor.

  • Can I save acrobat cloud PDF files back to windows phone 8.1?

I've backed up my (sandboxed) PDF files from Acrobat Reader on my Windows Phone 8.1 to Acrobat.com (Cloud).
How Can I restore (save) them back to the phone?
I understand I can view them in/from the cloud but how to get them back on the phone locally?
-It sure would be nice to be able to copy them to the Office Hub as well.
Seems Acrobat Reader (Windows Phone 8.1 app) allows download from OneDrive but not upload/ back-up to OneDrive, why?
Why is the no option / context menu item allowing "save to phone" when tap/hold on cloud stored file, or while viewing the file itself.
I see no option to download to phone.
Seems the only work-around I can think of is to NOT use the Windows Phone Acrobat Reader App; but instead log into Acrobat.com (using the phones browser)
and download the file(s) that way.

    Hi gtesuji,
You may log on The Most Reliable Tool to Convert PDF to Word or Excel | Adobe ExportPDF and login with your Adobe id and password. Go to file section.
Then you can download files back to phone memory.
