Illustration numbers using "chapter #" text variable

I have a curriculum that I'm updating that has illustration numbers throughout 21 lessons. The lessons are separate files that come from three separate books and are being rearranged into a new book. The illustration numbers are in a hypenated format where the first number is the lesson number and the second number counts up from 00 restarting with each lesson. I was hoping to replace the lesson number with the chapter # variable so that when I rearrange the lessons, the illustrations will automatically renumber themselves. However, I can't seem to do a find and replace for the number and replace it with the variable. As far as I can tell, I can only go through and find each number and manually insert the variable. The variables are not available for find and change, and if I try putting it on the clipboard and replacing with the clipboard contents, I get the page number rather than the chapter #. I'm using CS3, but I think CS4 may have the same short coming.
Any ideas how to do this? It seems to me to defeat the purpose of the variable if you can't do a quick find and change to put it where it can be useful. At this point, it would be faster to just do a find and change and put each lesson number in manually, even though the numbers will not automatically update if the lesson number changes. Is there something I'm missing?

I did the first illustration number manually, inserting the variable in place of the manual lesson number. Then I copied the whole thing to the clipboard and did a a search for "Illustration ^9-" and replace with clipboard contents unformatted. I got "Illustration [page number]-" I thought that was really weird since the page number is a special character and not a variable--at least as far as I know. I don't know how ID handles it on the back end, but they are inserted from different menus.

Date format in Bex Output should be changed while using with Text Variable

I am using a Bex Query where have defined a Text Variable with replacement path. So whatever Date user enters in the selection screen variable (Input Variable) the same date appears in the report description.
For Ex: If user enters 30.04.2012 in Char Variable/Input Variable before executing the report, so once he executes the report the same date appears on report description like "ABC Analysis as on 20120430". Is also changes the report description whenever user changes the date in selection screen variable.
My requirement is......Date format should be come as 30.04.2012 (DD.MM.YYYY) instead of 20120430 (YYYYMMDD) in report description.
Guys could you please help me out to achieve the desired output.

Please check if you have selected Replace with Key in that text variable.
Instead of that select External characteristic value key.
This should help you in giving the desired output.

Using Standard Text Variables for FYPERIOD in Report Title ?

We have a requirement where the user input the variable 0fiscper to the query (001.2010). How to get the text value of that variable in the query description in the bex query ?
For example user input, 008.2010. We need to get "Aug 2010 Sales values " where Sales values will be the report text. I want to get Aug (month) and year (2010) before the report title. I have searched in google and sdn and could not find any link, but found a doc for the column header text using the same variable. I have tried the same procedure and its just display the zvariable name and Sales value's instead of the label. Please advise.

You can create a Text variable with replacement path of Fiscper as reference char. Select Key in details tab of replacing variable.
If you are just getting technical name, then it is understood that it is not getting replaced.

Information Broadcast by E-Mail (Bursting) - Use of Text Variables

Hello Experts.
This time we have a project to distribute customer data using the Information Broadcast by E-Mail (Bursting).
So far it works with Queries and Web Templates, but the functions to create the text for the mail body are not enough.
The "Text Variables" do not contain information about the content of the Query, for example:
"Dear Ladies and Gentlemen" is not enough for us to post the E-Mail to the customers we have to do it dynamically like "Dear Mr. ".
Furthermore we have to send the E-Mail as a copy to the corresponding account manager and there is no "CC" field while bursting.
Is it possible to "extend" the functionality with u201Cself madeu201D Text Variables or customer exits or anything else?

Used of Sap text variable with replacement path in Bo designer

Dear experts,
I created a univers based on a SAp BW query. In this query I used a text variable in order to get dynamic header columns.
The text variable is done by using "replacement path" that is the text is derived automatically from the user input triggered by a sap bw variable.
example :
the query contains a restricted key figure which shows net values for a selected year based on variable PYEAR.
The name of this restricted keyfigure is &ZYEAR& where ZYEAR is the text variable with replacement path from the variable PYEAR.
When generated the univers based on this query I get component &YEAR&.
When I use this unvers in WebI my result containts header with &YEAR& althougth I selected for example the year 2006.
According to several how to and white papers on SDN , it seems that text variables with replacement path are supported. So I am disapointed by this result.
Can you give me advise to get a rigth result ?

Hi Rishit,
I am trying to achieve the same as you, but it seems like text variables in restricted key figures do not work. I am using BO XI3.1 SP3 and SAP BW 7.01 SP6.
A work-around for me has been to use the "user response" function in webi to create a webi variable that holds the dynamic text title. If the user inputs Jan 2010, I change the input to a date using the "user response" and "ToDate" functions in the webi variable editor. After changing the input to a date I use the RelativeDate to extract 1 month (e.g. 25 days) from the user input. Then I have both Jan 2010 and Dec 2010 as webi variables to use as headers for my restricted key figures.
The formulas can easily become a little long, but by tweaking the user response string, you should be able to get dynamic headings by using webi functionality. But be aware that you need one webi variable for each dynamic heading if you use this method.

Every time I try to use the text var. in formula with the same technique i do in the selction, i recieve the message :

Fetch values from characteristic slection variable by using text variable

Hi Gurus,
i got BEx Variable for characteristic SalesOrganization. It is a selection variable.
Theat means the users can select one or more than one value. For example 001 or 001, 004.
Now i want to fetch these values by using a text variable. Problem ist that the standard SAP text variable in BEx can filled by using replacement path and i can only can select "from" or "to". But i only want the endtered values. Is there another way without using an User Exit?

Name of column using text variable in Query Designer

I have 3 columns with amounts, 1 characteristic value variable and 1 text variable.
For example, names of this columns - 2005 year, 2006 year, 2005/2006.
I fill names using only one text variable and I can call first 2 column. I use set offset of variables for second column.
How can I call third column ''2005/2006"?

u need a second Text varaible and u need to correct your existing text variable.
Prerequisite: u need for your key figures the same KF-variable
1. Edit your existing text variable lets say its called &Text1&
2. Select your Text variable and go to tab "replacement path"
3. Choose a) InfoObject b) Choose key
4. In section "use value range" choose from value
5. Create a new text variable lets call it &Text2&
6. make exact the same settings as for your first text variable butchoose for "value range" to value
Now u use this text variables for your KF:
KF 1 -> &Text1&
KF 2 -> &Text1&
KF 3 -> &Text1& / &Text2&
This should make it!!

Text Variable with Replacement Path

Hi,
I want to create a report which will show me 5 years of data. I have used a variable for Fiscal year which will be given by the user. Now I created a 5 key figures with offset to show the 5 years of data.
I used a text variable with replacement path based on Fiscal Year, to display the year in the column heading. But I am only able to get the correct year in the first column. Rest of the column is showing me the same heading. Actually the offset is not working for the text variable.
Can anybody let me know how could we achiev the column heading for the columns with offset.

I have used a replacement variable in the exact situation. Instead of years, I have different months. I have used this variable on 0CALMONTH. I also have two more keyfigures where CALMONTH is offset by -12 and +1.
This variable works perfectly for me as expected.
Did you check the data to make sure that your offset is working? This is was I did for Offsetting and i am sure you have done the same thing.
Right click on the variable, "restrict". A window opens with the values. With the variable selected in the right side, right click "Specify Variable Offsets". If the replacement variable is built on this infoObject, it should work.

In the filter the value of text variable is not shown, only technical name.

We have some odd behavior of text variables in the filter screen of key-figures.
After entering values in the variable screen, the report is executed.
Within the report all text variables are filled, with the values entered in the variable screen.
I say all, because we use both sap standard variables &0T_FPER& as customer specific &ZFSCYR&.
When i want to change the key figures showned, i press the filter icon for key-figures (BW 3.5)
In the list shown: existing filtervalues, the textvariables of SAP standard are filled with the value entered in the variable screen. However the customer specific is shown with the technical name (&ZFSCYR&) and not the value.
Has anyone experience with this behavior or even better a solution to prevent this?

If ur custom text variable is not getting populated then you need to check out the code that u have written in there in CMOD for this and ofcourse if ur using this text variable after report execution then it will definately be in i_step 2.
So best way is to debug your code and check that using code RSRT.

How to populate a text variable

Hi All,
I need to populate a text variable based on the value of a characteristic in the query. Since the value of the characteristic and the text variable value is not the same I cannot use replacement path. So here I have to use customer exit.
My problem is how to get the value of the characteristic in the customer exit.
If the characteristic is used in a variable I know how to get the value of the characteristic (We can get it from i_t_var_range). But here I am not using the characteristic in any variable. So how will I get the characteristic value in the customer exit.
Any useful help will be appreciated.

Based on my above scenario suppose that there are only two month values in the cube, say January and March. So in the column side there will be only two column for each key figure, if only month characteristic is there in the column side, one for January and the second for March. Here I want to populate "First" as value for text variable where January is there and "Third" as value of text variable where March is there.
Here you have mentioned "you can read all available values in cube and pass required value/text to text variables". Here how do I write a code to read the month values from the cube, that is my question.
If it is there in some variable I could have got it from "i_t_var_range". But as per user requirement I cannot use a variable restriction on the month and they want to use this text variable across the queries(which I am not creating, user themselves are creating the queries) based on their requirement.

Problem with text variable on 0CALMONTH2

Hello,
When I try to use a text variable based on 0CALMONT2, only 3 first caracters are displayed instead on the full text.
Example : for september the system display SEP.
How can I diplay all the text of the month ?

Would you check the value being returned by the text variable (not the characteristic), it may be set to Key rather than Text.
So select the Change Variable option and see what the display setting is for your text variable.

How to get the Text variables in the Columns Headings

Hi,
     My requirement is I need to get data for weekly wise and for the last 10 weeks also. For this purpose I used the restricted KF based on the variables (customer exit) and offset. Also used the text variable for displaying from and to days in the column headings. I am getting the right text for the first column only. But the text offset is not considering.
Ex 07/04/2007 to 07/10/2007      06/27/2007 to 07/03/2007 like that.
I used the two text variables one for from data and other for to date using the customer exit. I am getting the same text as of the first column for the subsequent columns also. Please help me for getting the right text in the columns.

Hello ,
           The quite simple way is to create a text variable with replacement path , as it replaces the value of customer exit used in the report.
create two text variables
First variable:
1 Replace variable with -
external characteristic key value
For interval use ---from value
2.Secod text variable
Replace variable with -
external characteristic key value
For interval use ---To value
offset start -0000 offset length0000
use these variables in the column headings.
