Illustrations and Pages 4.0.4

I can get illustrations and even videos to appear in Pages>ePub, but when I double-tap the illustrations they are not sharp.
I've included them in Pages at "original size," which is minimum dimension 850 pixels.
Am I correct that they should be maximum 850 px in largest dimension?
I notice that, when I pinch once after double-tapping, they get sharper (though they are no longer full screen; they appear to be about 4/5s of the width).
Shouldn't they zoom to maximum viewable size at best resolution?
Thanks

No. Michael of ZappTek (Legend Maker) indicates the limit is 740x560 pixels for a "full page image." Anything larger or placed in a "reduced" page area will automatically be down-sampletd to 72 ppi (in the "image-#.png" file stored in the ePUB package) to fit the area you allocate. When you then double-click the ePUB illustration while reading, it is expanded to "fit within" the full display screen area which further reduces your perception of its quality.

  • I only need Illustrator and photoshop rather than all of the applications?

    Hi,
I'm looking in to using Creative Cloud but i already have InDesign CS6 so i would only need Illustrator and photoshop.
Can you just get the two application or do you have to get the full Creatyive Suite?
And what are the cost for this?
    Thanks,
    David Stubbs

    Hi there,
You can indeed purchase a Single App membership, see this link. Pricing is listed on the Creative Cloud Plans page. But honestly, once you are paying for two single app memberships you are close enough to the price of a full Creative Cloud membership that you'll probably want to go that route (and get access to additional apps, services, and more).

  • Printing problem with Epson R290 Illustrator and inDesign

I am running CS2 on Leopard and have recently purchased an Epson R290. The first time I used it with Illustrator and InDesign it worked fine but now whenever I print anything it prints a tiny version (about a sixth of the real size) of the design in the top left corner of the page. It does this both with new documents and old ones that used to print ok.

Since I posted the message about this problem I have discovered that it can be worked around by choosing a higher quality print. ie if you choose plain paper when printing from Illustrator or InDesign the printer prints a reduced size image but if you choose Ink jet mat or glossy the print comes out fine. I don't have this problem with Photoshop but that may be that I always print high quality from that application. I don't use Appleworks Draw so don't know whether this solves the problem for that application but iWork documents print ok.

  • Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS5 crash when trying to place images. Happens around 5+ times a day.

    Hi there
This Mac is quite new and was originally a migration (using Migration Assistant) from an older Mac.
Illustrator and InDesign in CS5 were both crashing often and most of the time it's when placing an image (in either application) – it doesn't crash each time I try to place an image, but 90% of the crashes are when placing an image.
We tried lots of things, like cleaning out the fonts, clearing font caches etc. After several months of that, we decided to wipe the Mac clean and start from scratch. It has been reformatted with a clean install of the OS and only minimal additional software added. Although quite a few fonts have been reinstalled, they all validate in Font Book.
One other thing of note is that the Adobe Updater fails to complete an update and so we have had to update each application manually from the Adobe website.
I would be so grateful someone could help shed some light on what is going on. Here's an EtreCheck report. Can also provide crash reports from the Console if useful.
    Thanks!

  • Why are the colors in Illustrator and Photoshop so off?

    Hi,
Let me just start off by saying I have the color mode in both Illustrator and Photoshop set to RGB. Yet, there is a noticeable color difference between a picture on the internet and when I paste it in for example Photoshop.
    Picture from the internet:
    Picture when pasted in Photoshop:
It's the same thing in Illustrator. And this is not just with pictures by the way, it's affects all the colors I use, which is a major pain in the rear.
    Anyone know a fix?

Well, my suggestion in post #13, was to help me find out what the cause of your problem is. It doesn’t solve your problem permanently but temporarily, only for the current session of Photoshop or Illustrator by making these programs show your image without applying any color management conversions.  So, you have to do this every time you open such files in these programs.
If you want to understand what is going on and be in control, you have to go through a lot of walls of text unfortunately .
I’ll try to explain it roughly but if you don’t understand it you need to read more about color management.
You are using Safari and this is how its color management  works:
    https://developer.apple.com/library/safari/technotes/tn2220/_index.html
    on that page it says:
"Important: For images that are not tagged with a color profile, their color values will be displayed on the screen by Safari with no optimization or adjustment for differences between devices in how they render colors. This may result in the colors not being displayed as originally intended"
This made me think that like most images on the web, the image you are using doesn’t have a color profile. In that case, assuming a certain scenario based on your input, the reason it is displayed differently from Photoshop and Illustrator is because you have a color profile of your monitor used by your system that is different than the color space used for the display of the image. By default RGB Images without a color profile are displayed using  the color space set for the working space in the Color Settings of Photoshop and Illustrator. Also by default this color space is sRGB.  If your monitor was also with an sRGB profile assigned in the system, which is the case with all monitors that come without a color profile provided from the manufacturer, you should have not experienced this problem because Photoshop and Illustrator will see that the color space you want to display your image is sRGB and your monitor is sRGB, and there will be no color conversions because both color spaces, source and destination are the same.  Unless someone else has setup your system ,color management, and installed a monitor profile,  my guess is that the manufacturer of your monitor has provided a color profile installed in your system that is not sRGB.
When you choose View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB, this in effect turns off the color management because you are displaying the image in the same color space as the one assigned to your monitor.
If you want to turn off the color management permanently which will be valid only when displaying images in the sRGB color space, you can assign the sRGB color profile to your monitor. This will show the images on your monitor with the same colors as those displayed without color management in the other applications and choosing View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB will make no difference.
Non color managed programs can display the color only in the way your monitor displays it. Color managed programs simulate other outputs on your monitor. The only way to match the display in color managed and non color managed software is to turn off the color managed software. This will display the same color values with the same color in all programs on your monitor.
The purpose of the color management is to allow the viewer  see the colors as intended (the way the creator sees them when creating the image). Different devices and media output the same color values differently resulting in different color. Therefore, when the viewer uses different device or media the colors if not color managed properly will look different or not as close as possible.
When you turn off the color management, or even when it is on but not properly applied, which I suspect is the case in your situation, you can’t be sure that the colors you see are as intended. In other words, you can’t tell if an image is supposed to look the way you see it, and you can’t create images providing means that will allow others to see them the way you see them.
So, for whatever reasons you want to make colors look the same in all your programs, have in mind that this is valid only on the current state of your monitor, and this also cuts the possibility to see and send to others colors as intended.

Boxes created in Adobe Illustrator and placed in InDesign appear misaligned in PDF.

    ?Hi, Sara.
I'm viewing in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Not sure what my client has.
And, yes, the boxes are all transparent. I tried pasting the native AI file, and EPS file, with the same result. When viewed at 150% and above, they look perfect. But, when viewed to fit page on screen, they distort.
    They print fine, too.

  • Smart Objects between Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver while managing the version in Vesion Cu

Ok, so the title of this post sounds confusing. First off, I created a graphic in Illustrator CS3. It is to be used on a web page created in Dreamweaver CS3. I want to be able to streamline the editing process by using the Smart Object linking feature between Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS3.
Obviously, the problem is, I cannot link the Photoshop source to Dreamweaver because the source is not a Photoshop file, it is in Illustrator. The obvious solution to that is to export the Illustrator file as a Photoshop file. The problem with that is, I want to maintain the source in Illustrator and make edits in Illustrator.
So, my solution was to place the Illustrator file in Photoshop and make the Illustrator file a Smart Object in Photoshop. Then link that Photoshop file to the Dreamweaver page. So, basically, Photoshop is just the link between Dreamweaver and Illustrator. It works well! I click the little edit button in Dreamweaver abd it calls up the file in Photoshop. Then I double-click on the Smart Object layer in Photoshop and the source comes up in Illuistrator.
Now, here is the problem. To add to the confusion, I maintain versioning in Version Cue. So whenever I change the Illustrator file, I check it in to Version Cue. The Illustrator file I linked to in Photoshop is the local file on my computer. This file is syncronized with the version of the file that gets uploaded to Version Cue. This may sound complicated, but to see how I did it is pretty straight forward.
My assumption was, when I double clicked on the Smart Object layer in Photoshop, I would get the local copy of the Illustrator file to edit. But, that wasn't the case. Problem is, I got a temp file of the Illustrator graphic and NOT the original source file I linked to in Photoshop.
I can still edit the temp file and have those changes automatically made in Photoshop and then update the image in Dreamweaver. BUT, when I got to check in the new edits of the Illustrator file to Version Cue, it wants to create a new file and not rev-up to the new version of the original file. That's because the file I'm checking in is NOT the original file, it is a temp file.
Does anyone else use a workflow like this? If so, how do you do it?

Ok, so far I have come up with this solution. Usually after editing the Illustrator file I would check it in. But, as mentioned, I can't just do that because the file I'm editing is the temp file and not the original file syncronized with Version Cue.
So, instead of using Check-In when I'm done, I can use Save As... I can then overwrite my local file that is syncronized with Version Cue. That will save the new file as the correct name and automatically check it into Version Cue as the next version of the correct file.

  • "Left Behind" by Flash Player lately (although by Illustrator and PhotoShop earlier)

Adobe and Apple need to be more supportive of older systems and use of older software that one uses for special applications. I need to use Classic periodically and have to do my "gymnastics" in order to accomplish things that current or slightly earlier software will not accomplish. I even have to go back to Illustrator III to get "blends" that produce separate items when the blends are "unjoined." If I did not go back to III, I could not accomplish my tasks — "import" these changes into a later generation Illustrator. The same is true for PhotoShop. Some procedures will not operate in later Photoshop, so I must go back to 2.5 or 3 in order to make some items that will then be opened in a later version. Meanwhile, I must first use a non-Intel machine and a system that will run Classic, or I cannot accomplish the task I must undertake. Now I find that Flash Player will not work on these systems, and I cannot get videos when I need them.
Hurray for progress, but not when benefit is for the software and hardware developer's convenience and sale of product alone. It comes across as inadequate "customer care" when some of these customers are developing good things that should be a complement to the success of the software and hardware makers' products. If their [Adobe, Apple, and other computer industry businesses] goal is only to make money, and lots of it, then they have succeeded. Of course they have [also] succeeded in frustrating most of us enough that we will not write much on this panel [on the previous comments page I encountered] because the "submit a question" box inhibits one from seeing [the last three letters of] what he is writing, and thus writers will [be expected to "by default," it seems] leave very short questions and comments. To me this is manipulation and control, not "service." But again isn't that a "sign of or time," the interest of gaining for one's self [primarily], mostly at the expense of others? I guess that famous Adobe as well as well-known Apple has succumbed to that illness, as many others in our society have done as well in "drinking that Kool-Aid."
Returning to "service-oriented products” would ultimately guarantee sales, and customer satisfaction. Unfortunately many do not realize they should be "dissatisfied" because they have been "trained" by businesses [sort of like Pavlov's dog] to "roll over and play dead" and to "just hand over the money," even if the business is not providing the "best," as it "should," and "could." Disgruntled? Dissatisfied? No, more like "disappointed" in people of executive leadership who are "sailing for themselves" rather than for "everyone else on board." Perhaps this message will reach the right ears, and change will be made, and we all be included in the "business relationship" [rather than just the businesses]. I hope this is taken to heart, for it is the "crux" of the matter. I am not the only one out there that feels this way. Maybe I am sounding out what others did not know what was "really bugging them" about the process they have been undergoing [I think I am — haven't we lost something we should "return" to?].
Yep, I need Adobe to support Flash Player on Mac OS 10.4.11 non-Intel machines myself [I have, however, gotten used to the Illustrator and PhotoShop "problems" it  seems].

  • CS5 (Illustrator and InDesign) randomly centers my workspace

When I'm zoomed in while working in Illustrator and InDesign, CS5 will arbitrarily center itself away from the area I'm working on. Sometimes it's on another page in the document, sometimes it's on the pasteboard. How do I make it stop?
I'm running 10.6.8 and using a bluetooth mouse (if that helps in any way).
    Thanks!

You mean while you are allready zoomed in or while you zooming in? Because if you have something selected in InDesign, it will automatically center on that obcet the moment you start zooming.
