Illustrator 10 problem

I reloaded my computer after a hard drive problem and now Illustrator 10 will only open previously created files from within Illustrator. If I try and open a file, I am told it is not a valad win32 application. Even I use "open with" the same problem occures. I have tried reloading the 1iiustratoe 10 application, with no help. Can anyone offer a suggestion.

Have you updated to 10.0.03?
Edit: Presuming you have reformatted. Otherwise, you may need to uninstall and Move the folder

Illustrator Problems CS3 13.0.1 - CRASHES

After extensive amounts of searching these forums and searching the intra web, I am still having problems with Illustrator CS3 crashing.
Here is what it's doing:
- Crashing on copy and paste to Flash CS3
- Crashing on any previous *.ai saves
- Crashing on new *.ai RGB files
- Crashing on any copy and paste to PS CS3
I really need to copy and paste vector illustrations to Flash CS3 as I do a lot of vector imports to save on size.
I have been able to do the following things:
- Save to any other format
- Save a CMYK *.ai file
I've done the following fixes:
- Disabled Print Spooler
- Moved any legacy versions of illustrator settings/folders to desktop
- Deleted preferences folder
- Installing acrobat reader and copying the two files into a specific location (I cant remember, but this was one of the solutions in the previous post)
- Disabled version cue off/renaming version cue folder
- Disabled version cue off in File Handling and Clipboard
- Disabled PDF in File Handling and Clipboard
Other related:
- I don't have Windows media 11, its 9~
- I don't have Zune
Using:
- Upgrade from Web Premium --> Master Collection
- All updated
My CPU:
XP Pro
Athlon 64+ 3800
4gb ram
Direct x 9.0c
I'm out quite a bit of coin not using this program.

1) Uninstall Illustrator using DVD.
2) Delete Pref's
3) Reinstall Illustrator from DVD.
4) Don't let Illustrator auto-update to 13.0.1 ever again, not even at the end of time itself. I smashed my head on the keyboard many many times until I uninstalled/reinstalled to 13.0.0.
I have NOT done any of these "solutions": (and my Ai works all the time, though I do have to delete Pref's once in a while)

In particular, I always use Version Cue, always have print spooler, always have PDF compatibility enabled with Ai Save. Also, I do not have Zune.

Distorted image, resolution - settings? Definitely Illustrator problem.

I wish I could attach an image - this is hard to describe. For the past two days my illustrator documents look really jagged and pixelly on screen. Tech person from my company tried a new monitor and it still looked that way. I restarted computer and it's still doing it - I opened same file on a coworkers computer and it looks fine so it's not the file. Coworker did screen grab of file open on her screen and emailed it to me and her version looks great - so I don't think it's video card.
The only thing I did was the other day I was experimenting with the setting under View for color blindness and that can affect our work, and I had not previously known about it. I changed settings back and the problem is still there. It doesn't look too bad when I zoom in close but at around 66% or 100% on screen all black lines are very jagged and look larger than they actually are. It prints okay so it's just a screen thing.
Does anyone know what is going on and how I can fix it? Thanks -

Opening Photoshop PDF in Illustrator problem

Hi,
I've got a problem with opening pdf file from photoshop in illustrator. I've got a psd file with a rasterized background (photo) and about 100 shape layers over it. I'm trying to save it as a photoshop pdf to keep the vector elements unflattened for use in illustrator. The saved pdf is about three times larger than the original psd file. Then I'm trying to open the pdf in illustrator but I get a message that illustrator can't preview it. It only shows the outline of the shapes. Do you know how can I save this pdf to be able to work on it in illustrator? or maybe some trick to copy all of the shapes at once from photoshop to illustrator with correct placement? I've tried opening pdf before but it seems to work fine when there are just a few simple shapes.
@Mylenium: I didn't have different blending modes, only normal. One rasterized layer as background and about 100 shapes layers above. Most of them being text layers converted to shapes. Nothing too fancy:)
I've also thought that different opacities might be the problem but I've saved one pdf with different opacities and the other one with every layer at 100% opacity and both pdf files had exactly the same size and both couldn't be opened.

Illustrator - problem with font Windsor

i work on my old PC and now i have brand new PC with clean install Win 7, 64 bit + Adobe Suite CS6 + updates. On old PC i open my graphic with font Windsor with no problem. On new PC in Illustrator i open graphic and program give me info "missing font Windsor-regular". I have same font as my coworker and from same source. But coworker have no problem with missing font Windsor. I have Windsor in Fonts in Windows. My solution i snow: i open graphic document/ i read info about missing font/ Choose Text – Find font – choose font from "system" and replace. Now font is OK and i save this graphic. I reopen this graphic and info about missing font is gone. After this open my coworker same graphic and he has same info about missing font Windsor-regular. So he replace Text from system and save and its OK for him after reopen. I open this graphic again and i have info about missing font . Its so annoying.
i try font delete and try give font from one source to me and my coworker. Problem still persist. I try at home open graphic with same font from same source and all work fine = font is OK and info about missing font is gone. Maybe the problem is only my PC, but why have my coworker info about missing font after i save the document? maybe i save some bug with font? Pleas give me some clue. Thanks.

So i today uninstal Windsor font from my PC and delete "Windsor" from registr via regedit + restart PC. After this i install same font from co-worker. The graphic with font Windsor still give me info about missing font. So we check versions of fonts (thanks Rama) and we have different versions! How is this possible? Same source and same font, but different versions. I dont get it, really this is magic :-)

And i go To Windows and with coworker we check in Fonts in Windows Properties by this Windsor Font. We have almost same information, but i have name "WINDSOR_7" and co-worker "WINDSOR_0" and i have change date today 2. July 2014 and co-worker has 8. March 1997. I try rename my "Windsor_7" to Windsor_0, but this give me info that i have Windsor_0 in my PC and this must be Windsor_0 (2). But i have visible in Fonts only 1 Windsor!

15:31 = now was on my PC IT specialist and he cant delete fonts (as admin) too. Its really some weird problem.

Illustrator problem with edit orginal

I have a problem with illustrator whan i place the picture i can use option "EDIT ORGINAL" i whant to edit picture in photoshop, i try relink, i googling but nothing...can you help me with this...how to enable option to use this, I am runing W7 x64

I take it you mean you cannot use Edit original, that is because you have embedded the file instead of linking it.
When placing the file there is a check box in the lower left side of the place dialog that says link when you select and highlight an image it will become available and you check it to make sure the file is linked and not embedded now you use Edit Original but you must highlight it in the Links Panel first.

PDF Illustrator Problems

I am having problems with CS5 Illustrator, anytime I try to save as a pdf it freezes. It can be a blank page and it still freezes. It shows in task manager as still working but I let it sit for 20 min and still no save.Help plz!

Blank page and freezes. Selecting a different printer or selecting a printer to saving as pdf. You either have a corrupted printer, or don't have one slected, which is actaully used when saving to a.pdf.
Alternately you can try printing to the .pdf writer, which would save you a file.

Adobe illustrator problem: stroke path

I Have problem with adobe illustrator. I have made a path, out of other paths, and now I want to stroke it. But it strokes at each little path. I have a print screen to make it more clear:
The question is: How do I stroke the whole "A"? So i just get a stroke around the "A" and not at each little path?

You could make a compound shape out of it. (see manual for details)
You could group them and then add a stroke and use pathfinder-effect "Add"

"Can't open the illustration" problem because of composer

Hello guys
I had an experience and I want share with you
I was working on Japanese AI file and after I have finished it I tried open it again, it gives me "Can't open the illustration" massage.
After lot of research I found that if put any text box with middle eastern composer the file won't open again.
I am working on middle eastern version and I think the files were made in Latin or Japanese version.
Now I have question if I have corrupted file because of this composer problem and i want to change the composer without opening the file on illustrator (by changing the extension to txt and open it on text editor). what I should change to make the composer to adobe not middle eastern composer?

I thnk it is still the same problem but in this case it is with the scratch disk. I have a feeling that there is not enough continuous room on the scratch to handle this file even though it might appear that the fie is small compared to the size of the available space on the scratch.
Or what's behind door number two
Perhas it uses a font that is corrupt in that it is swelling the font data base which has become bloated.
Of course I could be wrong in both cases which means it is behind the mysterious door nuber three.
BTW did you try moving the Adobe Illustrator CS (#) Settings Folder?

Need help with illustrator problem

First problem is when i selected object and try to move, the object is copying itself.
Second is when i selected brushes or pencil, The smooth tool is appeal and i can not draw anything.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Darn this problem just kicked in for me. I was working fine then suddenly dragging items is duplicating them as though I was pushing option. It doesn't happen though if I move an item with arrow keys. I've been using the character viewer and making characters using the option key so I could have pressed some key combo all unknowing. (Similar mystery problem happened when I automatically pressed cmd-H which is the combo for hide in most apps but not Illustrator. In Illustrator this inconveniantly hides edges. Now I know that if selection is a problem I should see if I cmd-H'ed at some point but I found this out the hard way :/ .)
Additionally, when I type characters using the type tool I am NOT getting the characters that would happen when pressing option so the option key is not stuck. Nor is the option key malfunctioning in other apps. Moreover, I just tested and like the OP smooth tool is selected instead of pencil.
This is very aggravating.

Text along path from freehand to illustrator problem

Does anyone know a workaround for text along path conversion from freehand to illustrator?
The problem is text along path in freehand which is slightly moved along path.
The result after conversion to illustrator is an invissible (exept a red+ where the text should be)text. Sometimes you can't even correct the problemtext so you had to place hundreds/thousends of text (streetmaps) again after conversion.
Exporting the Freehand file as illustrator 7 gives a much better result for the text part. (the art works is in this case seperated into lines and fills)
The message I get opening the illustrator file in CS3 is that legacy text should be updated, clicking the update button and text is looking way better and there is less text to replace.
Opening the Feehand file in CS3 doesn't give me this method... I'd like to...

Sorry but the text doesn't contain empty spaces, it's text missing.
The problem to be solved is conversion from Freehand to illustrator text along path which is justified (moved the slider in freehand to adjust the text placed along a path) is after conversion misplaced along the path and text is missing. In some case the text isn't adjustable because I can't crab a handle etc. The only solution is to place the text again. Any solutions?

Illustrator problem

Hi,
I have the same problem in both computers (good computers with 3 gb ram,win xp)
On one computer cs4 installed and on the second computer cs5 installed.
I get an error "not enough memory to save the file" when i try to export to PSD file.
There are files that the export is working and there are files that the export is not working.
Why is it happening ? are there any limitations ?

The problem is that in need the psd file with layers
That is the benefit in saving the file as psd in illustrator
When I do open illustrator in photoshop the file is flat
Is there any way to save the file as psd without see the note:
Out of memory?
How Can I check this problem? maybe it's hardware issue?

Illustrator Problem linking image

Problem: Working with Illustrator, when I link images twice or three times suddenly the link button does not respond. I have to close Illustrator and open it again and then I can use the link button again only twice.
Any suggestion?
OS: OSX Yosemite v 10.10.1
Hardware: IMac 27" (2013) 3.4Ghz Intel Core i5

Thanks for the response. First of all, you'll have to excuse me if I get a few points wrong, as I'm not too familiar with Illustrator. However, in answer to your questions;
The layers panel is showing "<Linked File>" next to an empty white box.
Turning off preview does show the boxes you describe.
I've no idea how to go about checking if an image is beyond the mask bounds. However, I've used the same image for testing across accounts and it displays fine on those that aren't having this issue.
Also, in the top left corner of Illustrator, the name os the linked image does display and the options available when clicking that do seem correct and working. Relinking from there does nothing, but I can open the image for editing etc. None of this helps in getting the image to display though.
As for the server side, we have always used a Mac server at the same version as the clients.
