Illustrator 10/Upgrade

I HAVE A DISC, packaging boasts "Illustrator 10." On the disc appears same with the word "Upgrade." I have the serial number (on the jewel case).
I installed the software from the disc; received a message saying I would first need the full version before I can use the upgrade. It appears the FULL version is on the disc, but is it? How can I access it?
I bought the disc many years ago but never used the software. Now I need it (the full version of Illustrator 10).

We now have full Success: The alias strategy worked, and I am off and running.
Must now learn how to adjust weights of fonts that are beautiful albeit entirely too "light" to use as headline fonts. Instruction manuals should guide me there.

We have...success...of some sort, but deﬁnitely on the right track.
I have found the software in the Applications folder. I click on the AI icon... then click another AI icon... and I ﬁnally arrive at Illustrator and am able to open, or start, a document.
Question: Can I pull the AI icon, nested in the third "layer" of windows, forward, say, onto the desktop where I can simply click it -- and no longer have to go to the Apps folder and two windows?

The installer should have already placed Illustrator into the application folder on Mac OS 9. The folder structure is not too different from now. So open the Macintosh HD, got to applications and look for Illustrator there.

Questions:
Is the app store looking to my hard drive for traces of aperture to determine whether it has been purchased or is it looking at some kind of purchase history within the app store?
Is there anyway to wipe my hard drive clean of aperture files or wipe clean my app store purchase history so that i can start over?
If none of this is possible, does anyone have a possible solution?
If i were to redownload aperture (currently for free since it won't let me pay) when a subsequent update comes out (say it goes from version 3.2.2 to 3.2.3) can i then elect to buy aperture, pay the fee and will it appear as a purchased app and allow me to get upgrades going forward? Would any data be compromised with this?
1. Do you have a backup connected to your Mac that contains the app? If so, yes the MAS can detect that and believes that the app is installed.
2. If the app no longer appears in the purchase history on the Purchased pane in the MAS, then it would seem that Apple has taken care of that.
4. Updates, such as you describe are free. Upgrades are not. An upgrade is a new paid version of the app, such as v 3.0 to v 4.0.

If you have an Adobe Illustrator 10 upgrade CD-ROM disc its installer will not work without a valid serial number from a previous version of Illustrator. It doesn't necessarily have to be an Illustrator 9 serial number either. You could upgrade from version 7 to 10 or maybe even version 4 to 10. Back in the 1990s and years prior to the first Creative Suite product release Adobe didn't penalize users for skipping a product generation. The upgrade cost was the same.
Obviously things have been very different in more recent years when to comes to upgrading design software. Users would pay stiff penalties for skipping a version release cycle, even if the version being skipped was so lame that it really deserved to be skipped. If a customer skipped more than a couple product release cycles he might not be eligible for anymore upgrade pricing and be forced to pay full price the next time. Now with things going to a subscription cycle the customer is effectively stuck having to pay for every upgrade no matter how paltry or problematic that upgrade may be. IMHO the subscription setup is removing a great deal of incentive for the software developer to improve and innovate.

Need to reinstall illustrator CS5 upgrade but original version I have is Illustrator 10 which is only supported by Classic

I had my hard drive replaced on my imac. I now need to reinstall illustrator and Photoshop CS5 upgrades. The original full version of these was Ill10 and Photoshop 6 which were only supported by Classic OS9 which is no longer on my computer. How do I go about installing these without that?

What OS X version is on the iMac? Classic can only be used with Tiger OS 10.4 and lower.
The OS 9 installer is on the install disc that came with your iMac.

I had 9.1 and upgraded to Tiger. I have Adobe Illustrator and PS files that I thought were archived. I can't even open AI or PS.

I suggest you post this on Adobe's Illustrator forum, but include specific details such as the versions of Mac OS X and Illustrator you are using, how you tried to open the files, and any errors you saw.

Registering a Adobe Illustrator CS5 upgrade

We are a reseller that clears stock very a very large and reputable UK company. vitually all software is received in sealed boxes but we have an Adobe Illustrator CS5 updrade pack that has been opened
I am concerned for our repuutation not to sell this on only to find the upgrade has already been registered
Has anyone a suggestion of a point of contact within Adobe that could check this for us please?

I am running AI 10 at the moment and want to upgrade. Are there any available for AI 10?

Illustrator's current pricing actually makes it less expesive to find a copy of the CS3 upgrade, then purchase the CS5.5 upgrade. You save a couple hundred dollars that way. Sellers like Amazon often have older version upgrades.

keep saying your computer doesn't have any qualifation version before. So, do I have to buy another full version more?

Well, duo you actualyl have any previous version? If not, then you are not eligible for upgrade pricing. Contact sales support about a refund and buy a full version.

Illustrator CS5 upgrade to Design Standard problem

Illustrator was working fine before but after upgrade only functions as a viewer of Ai documents. Selecting any tool only provides the hand tool, no other action possible. Acrobat Pro works fine, Photoshop works fine.
Assume the best start is to uninstall and reinstall but I won't be able to access the disks to do that until next week. Any ideas appreciated.
System: 2008 Macbook Pro, OSX 10.7.3; Illustrator CS5, Version 15.1.0

The hand tool isn't good enough for you?

My other shared computers in my network don't show up the side panel when saving or opening in Illustrator after upgrading to OS X 10.10

When trying to save a file to the computer I use for printing, the entire "Shared" section does NOT show up on my side panel. If I open up a Finder window, they are there and I have no issues accessing them. I just can't get them to appear to select them inside of Illustrator.

Understood, but that's not the issue here, the "shared" section disappears from open/save dialog boxes within the Adobe applications.
I've been testing this with Mavericks and so far have been unable to reproduce the issue, I think this is a Yosemite exclusive issue.
61446 - I'll let you know the final results of our testing, but it looks like downgrading to Mavericks may be the solution here.

Ich habe eine Seriennummer erhalten, die ich bereits eingelöst hatte. Nun habe ich einen neuen PC im Büro erhalten und die neuste CS6 Version muss wieder hochgeladen werden. Leider funktioniert die Seriennummer nicht mehr. Wieso? Wie kann ich das upgrade trotzdem hochladen?

Yes.
If you have v9 Installed, the upgrade installer will see it.
If you do not have v9 installed, the upgrade installer will ask for the v9 serial number.
Then.. it will ask for the v10 serial number.

Illustrator 6 upgrade crashes upon startup

2013 late imac, mavericks OS 9.2. I have an Intuos5 wacom
Reinstallation did not help. I have no AI 3rd party plugins. I removed a bad font in Font Book. I ran disk utility permissions. Speech recognition is off.
AI6 has not generated preferences, there is nothing to trash. The program never fully opens.
My first lines of code report are:
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000

Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

Upgrading to Illustrator CS4 english from FreeHand MX french

I wonder if a french version's FreeHand serial number will be accepted by an english version of the Illustrator CS4 upgrade ?
Does anybody have an idea ?

Call customer service and ask if it was the English version it would have to be Great Britain as they say on my master collection package Only for distribution in North America so you might not even be able to activate it or register it with an address in France.
BTW I do work in Paris and I noticed that the cost of anything photographic or computer related was way higher then here in the States. Even removable media. I bought a portable hard drive by La Cie there and it costs $100 more in paris then the New York. That was $300 as opposed to $200 here.
I agree I think it is a bit unfair. However it is my understanding that the salaries in Europe are generally higher then in New York which means they are very much higher then the rest of the U.S. which may be the reason. So I think it kind of even outs. Also the problem might be on your side of the fence as the import laws require fees or tariffs to be paid and might also level fines against companies that allow certain products to circumvent local import rules.
I know once a I sent some slides to the UK and I wrote a value on them of $300, but was not aware that it meant an invoice value, the customs imposed a $179 import fee on them and there was no if ands or buts about it.
Though they still use film in Europe it is kind of cray to do so I can get a pack of Ready Load 4X5 film for about $75.00 it cost more then twice that in Paris. It is considered a competing product so the tariff is huge but some people tell me it is not the Tariff or the VAT.
But my experience says it is and also it might be more expensive to do business in Europe.
So it is hard to tell why and some products from overseas are cheaper as well in the us then they are in US then in Europe fm where they originate?
I wonder what really drives this discrepancy.
