Illustrator 16.1.0 vs 16.0.1 update

Hi All ,
Adobe Illustrator CS6 update is now available !!!
With Illustrator as the perpetual license you will be updated to 16.0.1 wherein many issues are resolved.
Please read the release note listing resolved issues.
http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/release-note/illustrator-cs6-0-1-release-notes.html
However if you have the Illustrator CS6 as the part of the CCM then you will be updated to 16.1.0 , the difference is CCM customers are provided with the 3 new features.
Package files

along with the all the resolved issues specified in the release note shared above.
As we said when we launched Creative Cloud earlier this year, one of the biggest benefits for customers would be early access to the latest innovation from Adobe, including VIP access to new features in the desktop software.

As we said when we launched Creative Cloud earlier this year, one of the biggest benefits for customers would be early access to the latest innovation from Adobe, including VIP access to new features in the desktop software.
Macromedia FreeHand 8.0 released in 1998, added the “Collect for Output” function. Adobe buys Macromedia in 2005, then discontinues Freehand in 2007. In a 2008 interview with Senior Product Manager of Illustrator, Terry Hemphill, he told FreeHand users: “FreeHand is not going to be revived; time to move on, really. The Illustrator team is making a determined effort to bring the best of FreeHand into Illustrator, which should be evident from some of the new features in CS4.”
I am glad that Adobe finally made a determined effort to bring "Collect for Output" to Illustrator 14 years after Freehand had it and 5 years after Adobe bought Macromedia and rebranded the Freehand Collect for Output ideal as "Package Files". I guess the time was right to start searching for features that could be used as carrots for the creative cloud subscription version to push the whole "get the latest features" benefit ideal via the cloud. But certainly something that was available 14 years ago cant be considered innovative or new, nor a determined effort. Also I believe Code Line's ArtFiles v1 has been around since maybe 2004 or so, so again if a third party can accomplish it then Adobe the actual makers of Illustrator didn't really have an excuse nor are they being very innovative. Also, "Linkes Information" is just an updated version of Freehands "Link Info Dialog" as another dated example.
However if we finally get to see features from Freehand or elsewhere that have been lacking in Illustrator for years then hey something good may come out of this after all, there are certainly plenty of features to bring from Freehand and elsewhere thats for sure.

It will open it without any issues, the underlying technology and bug fixes are the same.
Thus the features could be pushed to both cloud and non cloud users if Adobe was not unwilling as talked about here...

The only thing that I can think of that might be causing the issues that I have a Mac Mini on Mavericks.

    Hi
I have discovered that my question above is a non-question. A user triggered by looking at the below article about Illustrator 2014 cc 17.0.2
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/release-note/illustrator-17-0-2-release-notes.html
He had recently upgraded from wht we now know is 18.0 to 18.1 which is the latest version. He read the above artic
le and supposed that it was a bug fix release for his version - because the v17 ov18 number is not often displayed. It is usually just 2014 CC.
I have asked him to post a bug report about Adobe Illustrator CC 2014.1

    Hi Team,
The option to disable to update is chosen by your IT admin when he created the package.
The IT Admin can re-enable the update by following the link below:

  • Illustrator cc don't start after the new update

Illustrator CC don‘t start after I update this. I should loading the font Verdana, but Verdana is activ. What can I do now?

    saure sahne,
Are all the faces of the Verdana and Tahoma fonts installed and enabled/active?
Did you receive a message about Verdana?
Is your OS Mac OSX 10.6.8? If so, you will have to upgrade that or roll back the update. You can see instructions for the latter here:

  • Illustrator CC crashes on start after 17.1 update

My copy of Illustrator CC was working absolutely fine until I stupidly updated it to 17.1. Now it crashes on startup with the error dialog "Missing required plugins. PDF File Format". Now I haven't done ANYTHING to cause this, but my mission-critical software is unusable, and there are no clues about where this plugin should be, how I get a replacement, why it isn't there.
If it is so critical to the operation of Illustrator, why doesn't the updater check for it being there when it performs the update? How can the update complete successfully and leave Illustrator in a non-functional state like this? I have to say that i suspect that Illustrator is getting too complex for its own good and maybe this is a wake-up call to look for an alternative that won't be so fragile!

Following my moan above I have to say how enormously impressed I am by the Adobe team. Sanjay has contacted me directly and he and other guys from Adobe have conducted two online sessions with me to try and work out what went wrong with my update. I don't think they have totally got to the bottom of it yet but the end result is that I am now going through a reinstall.
I do not think that I did anything to cause the problem, but somehow a number of files were missing from my Illustrator CC install that did not trip up the prior version but did cause problems for 17.1. Whether they were deleted during the update or at some previous point is impossible to know at this stage, but the net result is that a re-install is the only way to fix the problem. However I do not resent this because they have worked really hard to try and find out what went wrong so that they can try and prevent a problem like this occurring for others in the future.
They could not have done more and I do hope that they are successful in their endeavours to ensure that this problem does not happen for others.

  • Illustrator fails to launch after CC 17.1 update

I have just updated Illustrator CC to v17.1 and now it will no longer launch.
There is a bouncing icon in the dock for about a second and then no activity, no warnings or errors.
My mac is quite old (MacPro5.1 Quad-core running osx 10.6.8) which may well be the problem.
Never the less Illustrator 17.0 ran perfectly well prior to the update.
Uninstalling Illustrator 17.1 and reinstalling v17.0 works.
If Illustrator is allowed to update as recommended it no longer launches.
Is there something in the update that prevents my older spec mac from running it?

Make sure your Verdana fonts are active.

  • Illustrator Shape Builder Tool:  After the latest CC update, the tool alters shapes once edited instead of just removing/adding the desired shape.  Anyone else run into this and/or have any fixes?

I am using a PC and installed the latest update of all the CC programs I use (AI, PS, AE, etc.) and within Illustrator I've noticed the Shape Builder Tool doesn't behave exactly as it did in the past. (And not in a good way.)
Previous versions allowed me to edit/add/remove shapes from one another without issue (leaving all shape paths as they were before the editing while making the desired alterations), but the newest behavior seems to alter existing paths once shapes are merged/deleted making the tool almost non-usable.
Not sure if there's a check box I'm missing or what, but have done some brief research on the problem and haven't found anything helpful.  If anyone has run into this issue and/or knows a way to correct it, I would greatly appreciate it
    Thanks!

  • Illustrator won't open at all following Mavericks update.....

This is very frustrating. InDesign and Photoshop open up just fine, but Illustrator (CS6) literally does not even budge. I hopped the Mavericks update train a bit late, and now I wish I hadn't at all. I need Illustrator for work. Now. And do not have any codes or disk to reinstall... this is terrible.

    s,
You may need to uninstall and reinstall from a download, and it may be worth running the Cleaner Tool in between.

  • Illustrator CC Crashes at Launch even after the updates, anyone know what is going on?

I recently got Illustrator CC and made all of the updates, unfortunately, it repeatedly crashes upon startup. I have no issues with Photoshop CC or Flash CC, just Illustrator CC. Does anyone have any suggestions on problem solving?

    Hi Zubo,
    Please post the crash log:-
    1) Open the finder app.
    2) Press command +shift + g to open the "Go to the folder" dialog.
    3) In the text edit field type ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.
    4) This will take you the DiagnosticReports folder.
    5) Please share the latest crash log file from this folder.
    Regards.

  • When using library artworks created in Illustrator in Photoshop the 'placed' versions don't update in Photoshop even when they update in the library

I'm using a Mac and working in Illustrator and Photoshop. Here's my problem:
I would like to be able to add button designs created in Illustrator to my libraries for access in Photoshop. Pretty straightforward - just add the button to the library and then it appears in my library in Photoshop to be dragged and dropped into the file. I would assume that once you drop an item from the library into the page in Photoshop it would remain linked to the library instance but it doesn't seem to which is frustrating. So if I make changes to the original button in Illustrator Adobe then updates the library, but not all the placed instances on the Photoshop page/file. Am I missing something? If not that it is something that should be added.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I think I found a workaround, although its ugly and not condusive to a nice workflow :-/
The "Inside Aperture" web page had a blog post describing what I said above, about using Aperture previews as referenced originals in iPhoto: http://www.oreillynet.com/digitalmedia/blog/2007/08/referencedaperture_previewsi.html
And in the comments below, I found this:
+"This works great indeed. I noticed something annoying using this method though.+
+If you edit a picture in Aperture and then open iPhoto which has already the referenced Aperture picture, the iPhoto thumbnail will not update itself automatically...+
+The easiest way to check this is to do a major adjustment in Aperture (i.e. From Color to B&W) and see that the thumbnail has not updated in iPhoto. So far I found two ways of fixing this but it is not really efficient...+
+1 - Rebuild the iPhoto library (long & painful depending on its size)+
+2 - Do an adjustment directly in iPhoto, apply it then revert to the original.+
+With the second option, the thumbnail gets regenerated."+
The bad part of this is then everytime you make an adjustment in an Aperture version and updagte the preview, you now have to go into iPhoto, find that photo, and make a change to it, revert to iPhoto original, (which is now the changed Aperture referenced preview), and the thumbnail gets regenerated. Ugly, and not very automatable .
I am going to try and start an email thread w/ the author of that blog post ot see whether he's found anything eise out.

  • Illustrator is pixelated for retina display and currently updated to 16.0.4

I updated Illustrator CS6 but the whole illustrator program is pixelated, including toolbars. This goes for Dreamweaver, InDesign and Flash. However Photoshop CS6 is fine.
Any idea as to what I can do?

i use CS6 at home on a retina mac. 16.0.4 should support it

i'm afraid i can't think what would be wrong in your particular case.

  • Cannot print borderless printing from illustrator  - prints fine from photoshop.  I've updated canon drivers but didn't help.

After buying a new imac and upgrading to lion, then upgrading to illustrator I cannot print borderless on my canon printer.  It prints borderless fine from photoshop.  I have installed the new drivers from canon through apple but that didn't help.  It shows borderless in the print window but continues to leave a border when printing. Any suggestions?

    Hi there misterglenn,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for printer issues found in the article below.

  • Illustrator CC used to support edrw (SolidWorks) files but Illustrator CC 2014 no longer seems to after updating today, Is this the case?

We are sent SolidWorks files by our supplier and they used to open so that we could make minor adjustments where needed, mainly language conversion and dimensions alterations but the .edrw file format no longer seems to be supported after updating to Illustrator CC 2014. Has Adobe tightened the noose of monopolistic limitation even further with this update?

    Hello ikon,
Could you please verify in your AICC installation plugins folder that you do not have any additional 3rd party plugins installed to enable this import? Also, AICC 2014 installation happens in a folder parallel to AICC so you would need to install/copy the 3rd party plugin into AICC 2014 plugins folder. It is most likely that you have an additional plugin installed in AICC which is not there in AICC 2014.
Please confirm as we do not support these files import natively in AI or in other previous versions.

  • Problem with mp3 illustration in the finder since 10.6.8 update !

    Hi !
since the last update to mac os X 10.6.8 my mp3 illustartions are not present anymore in the finder.... but i can see them in itunes! can anyone help me? it seems to be a bug cause some people with mac os X lion meet the same problem....
    Thanks

    BDAqua,
Nope. It's very erratic. For example, just now I cycled several times between the inbox and the smart mailbox and even closed and re-opened. The inbox showed messages. Then I quit mail and re-opened, the inbox was empty. It took a couple more cycles of quit and re-open to get an inbox display. But as soon as I got it back on, and then closed or changed mailboxes, it disappeared when I went back to the inbox.
Hellofa way to run a railroad.
And just for reference, when I first had this issue last week under 10.6.8, I read several posts on this forum wherein other users had problems with the inbox display. Other than the smart mailbox "fix", I never did find a definitive solution or explanation as to why it is occuring.

  • How can you rotate the labels on the category axis of a graph in Illustrator and have it stay the same when updating the graph data?

I am needing to create a line graph with dates consisting of MM/DD/YY along the category axis. I would like to rotate the labels 45 degrees and have them stay when I update the graph. I have read about manually doing it, I even made an action to make it faster, but it still seems inefficient. Is there a setting that I could use to automatically create my labels as rotated? Thanks.

    Hi Gravy Train,
I'm curious about why you are using 2 loops.   You mentioned one is for monitoring and one is for DAQ....what do you mean by that?   What is the overall goal of this piece of code.   Also, I noticed that you are not closing the task.   Since this is just a subset, I realize you could be closing it in your actual code, but just in case you're not.....it is very important that you close all tasks when you are down acquiring data.
