Illustrator and pdf view problem

Hello, I am completely stumped by this one:
Created a document in Adobe Illustrator cs5
1 Visible layer
1 Hidden layer
Saved a copy as a pdf
The visible layer and the hidden layer are both seen on someone else’s computer using Reader version 10.0.1.434
I am using Adobe Acrobat X Version 10.0.3 and can not see the hidden layer, only the visible one.
I create pdf's for proofs all the time like this and have never had this problem. I have done nothing out of the ordinary. I do not understand why I can not see the hidden layer and someone else can on their system. I have tired opening up the file as a Google image as well, and still do not see the hidden file.
I know I should not be able to see the hidden layer, but why can someone else see it?
Thanks in advance for anyones help.

I took a look and what would do this is if your client has Apply Layers Overrides checked
The three small white filed and black stroke paths are on a hidden layer that only shows it I make it visible or have this option checked.
Tell them to uncheck the option.
I am adding this as well if you check that option then save as from Acrobat X 10.1.0  as Acrobat 1.6 this happens when you reopen it but if you have it save with Acrobat 1.8 the hidden layer will not be visible even after a save as unless you check this option again.
Leads me to believe your client is working with Acrobat 7 or 8

  • Remote Control and Remote View Problem

    Hi,
I work at a High School running Netware 6.0 SP5 and Zen works 4.01 ir7.
Remote Control and Remote View works great but I noticed one problem.
We have a logo of the school that is forced down on to the desktop when a
user logs in through group policies. This logo works perfect for the
desktop wall paper and loads every time a user logs in.
When I Remote Control or Remote View a computer the users desktop wall
paper turns from the logo being forced down through group policies to the
desktop to a blue desktop wall paper.
I would prefer the desktop wall paper staying the schools logo when I
Remote Control or Remote View because if the desktop wall paper changes to
the blue color I mentioned above when I Remote Control or Remote View the
users computer, they will know that someone is taking over their computer
which sometimes we dont want them knowing.
We have Windows 98SE computer running Novell Client 3.4 and we have some
computers running Windows XP Professional SP1 and Windows XP Professional
    SP2 both running Novell Client 4.91 SP2.
The Remote Control and Remote View problem of the desktop wall paper
changing on the users computer occurs on all operating systems mentioned
    above.
Is there a solution to my above problem? When Remote Controlling and
Remote Viewing someone's computer I don't want the desktop wall paper to
    change.
    Thanks!

  • Firefox and PDF download problems -- hanging and failures

I am working in Windows XP and Firefox 12.0.
We post our multi-page newsletter to our website in PDF, and then use a list to send a link to access it. When attempting to download using Firefox, the document will download all or part of the first page, and then hang -- sometimes in perpetuity, and sometimes with infinitesimally slow progress.
It works just fine in Google Chrome.
I tried disabling all of my plug-ins, including Adobe Acrobat (9.5.1.283). I left them all disabled, but re-enabled Adobe. No joy.
I disabled Adobe and tried a straight-up download, then open with my local reader. No joy.
What is going on, and how can I fix it?
My Acrobat 9 Standard is 9.5.1 that I'm using to create the document in the first place.
What can I do to fix MY system to get it to download and, more importantly, what information can I give our members to use so that they can successfully download it?

I personally open PDFs in the stand-alone Adobe Reader rather than in the browser, but everyone has their own preference.
Have you experimented with Firefox's application tab settings?
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box on that tab, type pdf and pause for the list to be filtered. You should be able to toggle between viewing the PDF in the browser or launching it externally. I have mine set to "Always Ask."
Generally speaking, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    1. Clear Firefox's Cache
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
    2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
If you host the PDFs on a site you can't actually visit, access the View Cookies dialog from this page and change the host name at the top of the box to the correct host name to access the relevant cookies.
Then try downloading again. Does that help?

  • FF 19 and PDF viewer issue

So the latest version of Firefox 19 comes with a built in PDF viewer.
The problem that I found is that this viewer at its present time does NOT show fillable fields ina PDF, or let the user type into these fillable fields, or show the electronic print and instructions buttons we place at the top of most of our PDF "forms".
    Ex: http://www.tmcc.edu/financialaid/downloads/forms/1213/FINAConsortiumAgree1213.pdf
This form should show buttons at the top and let a user fill it out. It does with the Reader plugin. In FF 19's built in PDF viewer I cant seem to do anything.
We presently make all our PDF forms fillable, so if this is an issue, hopefully a fix or update can be found.

This new viewer was an ugly surprise. I DO NOT want pdfs to open in Firefox. I want FIrefox to give me the option to open or download. If I select open, I want it to open in my copy of Acrobat (not the Reader), and certainly not inside Firefox. Can anybody help me?

  • Is HP/Palm working on a fix for the PDF viewing problems

For several months, I've been having issues viewing PDFs on my Pre, and though I find lots of information confirming same, I can't find any evidence that HP/Palm is doing anything about it.  Getting tired of sending myself links so I can view PDFs on a computer....what about it HP/Palm?
While I'm not happy I fell for all the hype about Flash support, I'm probably more upset I can't even view many PDFs using this device.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

hi, there are a couple of treads on the problem from Spring 2010:
    http://forums.palm.com/t5/webOS-Software/PDF-viewer-bug-v1-4-5/m-p/308929
    http://forums.palm.com/t5/webOS-Software/Post-1-4-5-Pre-Freezing/m-p/319306#M20781
    http://forums.palm.com/t5/webOS-Software/Pre-PDF-problems/td-p/302069
zoom in and let the device wait for the Pre to autopower off. The bug happens with PDF and all office apps.

  • Palm Pre v1.40 PDF viewer problem

Since I installed this update, my PDF reader doesn't function properly.  Either it doesn't open the document, or it opens it to fit the page, too small to read, and the resizing feature doesn't work.  If I go to the open selection on the menu, all it does is open a 44 page document that is, of course, too small to read, so I have no idea what it is.  Has anyone else had this problem?

From webOS V 1.4.1.1 release notes under PDF Viewer
"Pinching in/out to zoom out/in now works correctly"
meaning as you would expect.  pinch out makes PDF bigger; pinch in makes PDF smaller.
    and double tab works, too.
The Pinch Out/Pinch In/Double tap documented in HELP for PDF View.
However, you can only get to HELP after you open PDF View and open a file, then you can touch upper left and select Help.  (In my opinion, this is error.  You should be able to open Help without opening a file).

  • Smart objects from Illustrator and Indesign dimensions problem

I have been trying to find an answer to this problem for 6 months now and surprised no one else has tried to find any answers.
When we import something from illustrator or indesign as a smart object, for some reason the objects width and height will not keep their  dimensions in proportion.
When the asset is first imported as a smart object it says the width and height are exactly 100%. However after that if you try to change the dimensions they will be out of proportion, usually the width will be 100% but the height will be out by about 1% to begin with. When you scale up, the percentages fall further and further apart. See image attached.
This has become a real problem for our workflow as the creative director insists we must  correct every layer which has this issue by typing in the sizes manually, but then this doesnt always fix the problem either depending on which version of photoshop you are using.
Why does this happen, and how can we fix it for good?
    Thanks, Chris.

I do not have the answer for I don't have illustrator and indesign.  I do have Photoshop and have notice that it try to match resolutions and maintain sizes but it may also scale placed object etc. There are some some Photoshop preferences setting that can effect some operations. Photoshop also has support for non square pixels.
Make some test if illustrator and indesign have setting for pixel aspect ratio and DPI resolution. Make sure all documents have the same pixel aspect ratio and same DPI resolution and that the vector object to be imported are not larger then the Photoshop document their being imported to.
Thanks for the suggestions, but none of these would be the answer. Illustrator is Vector so it does not use DPI / Pixel aspect ratios etc.

  • Pdf viewing problems in yosemite

We've upgraded our lab computers to Yosemite. The only problem we've noted so far is that the horizontal bars on our reports (PDF files) do not show up on the screen in Preview version 8.0 on Yosemite on any of our Macs old and new alike. They print as normal and view as normal in a browser. I sent the report to a friend who opened it on her windows computer and the bars appear as normal.
I tried the only setting within Preview that I thought might be related. That is Preferences>Images>Define 100% scale as: I had it set on 1 image pixel equals 1 screen pixel. and tried changing it to Size on screen equals size on print out. Changed it and restarted Preview but it made no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas of what else I should try?
    Thanks for your time.

Just upgraded to Yosemite on a Mac Mini. Some but not all of our business forms on pdf will render improperly on the screen. They print the same way as they show on the screen. Safari displays and prints properly. Sometimes Preview will tear the screen image horizontally, and sometimes blocks will be displaced, with the same document at different times.  On one document parts of a few letters were scattered aimlessly all over the document, but this from a text block added by an Apple Store app after the pdf was originally written. I think it is a parsing problem within the pdf specification. Pdf is OK. Interpretation of what is within the pdf is not ok.
Use "open as" and choose Safari until Apple fixes it. I don't trust Preview today. It was a really nice app on Mavericks. I miss it. You could do more stuff than just look at a file.

  • Documentum PDF view problem

I am unable to view a documentum PDF within Transaction VF03 using the 'services for object' option.  The problem occurs when the dialogue box pops up, and when "OPEN" is selected, it opens in NOTEPAD instead of Adobe.  If I choose option "SAVE", it recognizes it as PDF format, saves to local computer fine, and opens in Adobe without issue.
Two other points:  The same process on the same computer works for our QA environment, but not the Production environment.  Also, the Production environment works for some local machines, just not all.  The Adobe version is the same (tried v 8.0, but standard here is v6.0).
This problem occured due to a third-party archiving tool and a problem in the way it sent the PDF file into SAP for viewing.  We resolved by correcting that tool.

  • Windows 7 x64 and PDF thumbnails problems

I have CS5 and Acrobat 9 and under Vista x32 I could see the pdf thumbnails nicely.  Yesterday I installed Windows 7 x64 and now all I can see are the Adobe icons.  I read some other threads that describe opening up the files through acrobat and then changing to either large icon or extra large icon to fix the problem.  This works, but when I go back through windows explorer everyhting is back to just icons.  I have made sure that explorer is set to always view thumbnails and I don't have this problem with anyother file types such as Word documents or image files.  I have also tried rebuilding the installation as anthoer poster had suggested.  Has anyone found a permanent fix for this?
    Thanks,

Thanks for the link to the fix (by Pretentious Name . com).
I note that over a year has passed since you posted this solution, and Adobe has still not corrected the problem.
Problems, errors, and omissions in software are normal and acceptable - what is not acceptable is that Adobe choses to not take action to correct certain problems, especially when the user community identifies both the cause and the solution to the problem.
The folks at Adobe shoud take a close look at this web page: http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/ - it contains a complete and well-documented description of both the cause of the problem and the solution to the problem.

  • Report fonts mapping and PDF output problem(Easten European languages)

    Hi experts,
    I have such a problem.
If i run oracle reports(10g) via reports builder all layouts looks fine.
When i run them in PDF format via application server - report text and numbers strech out off frames, also textfields and text itself becomes bigger in size.
Aplication server runs over windows OS.
    Uifont.ali file looks:
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    Arial..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    Arial...Bold.. = "Arialbd.ttf"
    Arial..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    Arial..Plain... = "Arial.ttf"
    Arial..... = "Arial.ttf"
    "Times New Roman"...Bold.. = "TIMESBD.TTF"
    "Times New Roman"..Italic... = "TIMESI.TTF"
    "Times New Roman"..... = "TIMES.TTF"
I think the problem is with Lithuanian(baltic) letters in the text. If i do not map fonts in uifont.ali file i get PDF report without the
lithuanian alphabet letters, but in this case it looks fine(The same as in report builder)
After fonts mapping, i get my lithuanian alphabet letters, but text and numbers strech out off frames, changes the size and etc.
I put the example of my report uotput:
    http://pirmas.50webs.com/index.html
What else can i do to solve this problem?
    Thanks for any suggestions

For the html output issue , there is a patch available on top of 9021. Please contact your Oracle support representative to get a 90211 patch nd apply the one-off patch of Bug 2472932.
For PDF, please ensure that you are setting the NLS_LANG in the server config file using the dynamic environment switch feature introduced in 90 patch 1 (9021). Please see the patch 1 release notes for the details

  • Acrobat 8 Standard PDF View problem

I am having trouble with Acrobat 8 Standard not showing a PDF I open. It will open the document fine, but all that displays is a gray page. I have tried repairing the installation, and re-applying all patches, but it is still the same. The selection pointer disappears when I move it through the grayed out page, like there is some layer blocking the view. I have checked through the settings numerous times, I don't see anything that looks incorrect...

This was happening with various PDF's, I don't know how some were produced. I made a 1 page document from Word, and created a PDF out of it, I had the same results. I did find out that using a different account on the same PC, Acrobat would behave normally. I still don't know exactly what caused it, but I have re-created the profile to get around it.

  • InDesign CS4 Export and PDF Printing Problem

Whenever we print PDFs created from InDesign CS4 documents that contain transparencies, drop shadows or gradients we've been having issues. White boxes will appear instead of the drop shadows and transparencies, and the colors of the gradient images will be completely different from what's in the original file. Of course, the PDF always looks perfect on the screen, and the .indd document prints correctly. The problems only occur when we print the PDFs.
We create the PDFs in InDesign using the File>Export function, and we've tried every version of PDF compatibility from 4 to 8. We're not exactly sure if this is an InDesign issue or an Acrobat issue, but we wanted to check and see if there's something specific we need to do doing during the exporting process to prevent this from happening.
Our IT department has been working on this but they're stumped, and the fine folks at Xerox insist that our printers are "fully operational."
We quickly looked through previous postings and didn't see another problem like this one listed, but we apologize if this has already been addressed and we are posting the same issue twice.
Any suggestions or insight anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks Bob! I followed the information the links you provided and it solved our problems! I won't bore you with the details of how long how many different people have been trying to solve this issue, but let's just say it's a lot.
You are being virtually hugged and/or high-fived by our entire Communications, IT and Printing Departments. THANK YOU!
