Illustrator can't use bitmap fonts?

In the list of available fonts, Illustrator CS5 just doesn't show a particular bitmap font (maybe it's skipping some others too, but I didn't check). I'm sure the font works well, in fact it shows up and works normally in Photoshop, and I also use it for interface in some other software that allows customizing of interface - in a few years never had a problem. If it matters, it's a fon file.
Digging around the internet I didn't see anybody complaining about it, the only thing I've found is an article for beginners that talks about using bitmap fonts as if it were perfectly possible.
So, how can I use this font in my documents? Or will I have to design everything in Illustrator and then finish it in Photoshop.
Edit: if it matters I'm on Windows 7 64bit.

That's true, but what made me think Illustrator should be able to read a puny bitmap font is (among other things) this piece - I wouldn't trust it too much ("Pixel fonts are quite popular these days. It all started in Flash…") but it actually has screenshots, so I assumed they must have materialized from somewhere (and what it says about positioning of the lines is true, so it probably knows what it's talking about).
Edit: and I just noticed… the fonts I actually have as "Hidden" (in the Font control panel) show up in Illustrator all right - Comic Sans says hello (I should have uninstalled it instead of hiding it I guess). Heh…

  • Can't use bitmap font in GUI apps

I like the look of bitmap fonts and I used to be able to use them in GUI apps such as GTK apps.
For the last few months whenever I try to start GUI app with a bitmap font selected the application crashes. Always with the same error message about cairo-scaled-font.
For example, here is my terminal output when I try to start dwb using the bitmap font Lemon as my default font:
    dwb: cairo-scaled-font.c:459: _cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion '!scaled_font->cache_frozen' failed.
This problem is not limited to just dwb but any GUI app when I try to use any bitmap font.
I've tried googling the problem and the only advice I could find was to run fc-cache -fv, which didn't fix the issue.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I normally use BSPWM as my window manager, and I have just discovered that If I try to start dwb in Gnome it actually works!
This isn't really a solution for me because I spend most of my time in BSPWM, but it's interesting.

  • How can I use my fonts in Illustrator (CS4) without Suitcase?

How can I use my fonts in Illustrator (CS4) without Suitcase? InDesign has a fonts folder, but not Illustrator.

i found this info from this link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3466307.  The user who asked this question stats this solution worked for them.
First in Language and text preferences in the system preferences select Hebrew as the input method.
The in Illustrator click the text tool in your document or drag to create a text frame.
While the cursor is active select a hebrew font
then go to the menu bar for the finder and where there is the American Flag pull it down and select hebrew
now go back to the document and start typing.
Remember if you do not have the ME version you have to have it flush right and type backwards.

  • Can I use Hebrew fonts in Illustrator CS3?

Can I use Hebrew fonts, which are loaded and enabled in Illustrator, CS3? Although they are listed in the Character palette, the Hebrew fonts appear at the bottom of the list enclosed in < > brackets. When I choose such a Hebrew font, the letters appear as blank rectangles in my document? Font Book says they are valid Truetype fonts. What's wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Can i use a font such as Yuppy, Chalkboard which is basically included in iOS  for commercial purpose?

    hi!
I make a e-book and it will be published on appstore and android market as application.
    I'm wondering about font.
Can i use a font such as Yuppy, Chalkboard which is basically included in iOS  for commercial purpose like me?
I bought a mountain lion on appstore.
I look forward to hearing from apple whether it is lawful or not.
    Have a blessed day~:)

Strangely, there isn't and end user license on Apple's site regarding iOS. But here's a look at the font agreement section from OS X Mountain Lion:
    E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included with the Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however, you may only embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions accompanying the font in question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font Book/Preview/Show Font Info panel.
So basically, you need to examine the fonts to see if there are notes on usage restrictions or limitations.

  • Can I use Web Fonts in Illustrator or Photoshop?

I'd like to use a few of the web fonts for a clients project but I need to be able to have the fonts available for me in Illustrator and Photoshop as well as Dreamweaver and Muse.
I am a full Creative Cloud Subscriber and need to have complete integration across all or most products.
Thank you for help in advance

The short answer is this is not possible.
The long answer is Photoshop & Illustrator use print fonts installed on your system (True Type, Open Type, Post Script).
Web fonts (ie: Google, TypeKit, Edge, etc...) need a web browser to display them because they use file types that are not recognized by other applications.
    EOT Compressed
    EOT Lite (uncompressed)
TTF (raw TrueType Fonts for screen)
    SVG (xml version)
    SVGZ (gzipped version)
WOFF (gzipped, web only, cross-browser font)

  • Illustrator can't find new font

I am trying to use a new font I just downloaded online. When I try to use the font it doesn't show up in the selection. I looked and the font is located in my user > me > library > fonts folder but still won't find it. I even tried to put it in Macintosh HD > Library > Fonts with also no luck. I tried this with multiple fonts to see if I have the same issue...sure enough, I did.
    These are .ttf files.
It's funny because all the Adobe programs refuse it but programs like TextEdit, and Font Book seem to find it fine.
    Any help?
System: Mac OS X Version 10.6.2

Jacob should probably not be giving advice to someone on the Mac system because no matter how many times this is posted he always tells it his way.
But when trashing the preferences on a Mac what you really need to do is trash the entire Settings folder, as is probably true of the Windows platform…because the folder itself can become corrupt. Also as has recently been posted so can the permissions for that folder and its content.
This is how you find the Adobe Illustrator settings folder
    1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
    4. Also you may on occasion have to trash the com.adobe.illustrator.plist file also in the same User/username/Library/Preferences/ directory but a little further down.
Then check the permissions you do that by using the disk utility and then manually checking it by right or control clicking on the Illustrator icon and going to get info to the bottom you will see where you can change the sharing and permissions you may have to change the permissions for all the users listed though on my Mac it works fine this way.
However if it is a question of the fonts not showing up it may not be the settings for Illustrator depending on what font manager you are using it maybe the font manager or something wrong with the fonts or the system itself.
i have had this happen to me as well after updating software but for sure I do not recall what software it was that causes this.
But I use Font Agent Pro and by quitting and restarting Font Agent Pro seemed to always fix it.
I suggest getting a font manger other than Font Book though some users are happy with Font Book.
If you add your fonts with font book they will show up in your applications.
Trying to load them yourself is probably not so helpful as you might think best to use something like FAP or Linotypes free type manager I think it is called font Explorer.

  • Fontconfig must be reinstalled to use bitmap fonts

This is quite bizarre: if you install, say, artwiz-fonts, and then link 10-bitmaps.conf to yes-bitmaps.conf in /etc/fonts/conf.d, you still won't be able to use Artwiz fonts (or any bitmap fonts) next time you restart X. The only way to get the bitmap fonts working is to reinstall the fontconfig package.
I have absolutely no idea why this is the case, but I think I can safely say that it shouldn't be the case - reinstalling packages should not be required in order to change such basic settings.

Yes, I tried fc-cache. At first I thought it was just refreshing the font cache that did it - installing fontconfig does that - but it's not, it only works if you reinstall fontconfig.
(FWIW, you have to restart X anyway for the changes to take effect. If it takes effect after restarting the box, I don't particularly care, because you should never have to reboot in order to get changes to font configurations working. Also, remember that this behavior appeared with the latest version of fontconfig, not the previous version.)

  • How can I use two fonts in swing components?

I want to implement a project. When a part of the JMenuBar, JButton or other swing components' text is English, I use Tahoma font, and other of these components' text is Chinese, I use SimSun font, just like the Chinese Windows OS. How can I implement it??
    Thanks!!

Ooh, thats a tricky one. I'm not sure whether you can do that, but maybe someone else with more experienced can correct me.
You'll probably have to create your own custom JMenu that displays two labels, one for English and one for the Chinese parts?

  • Can't use Web Fonts in Photoshop, but can in Muse

Hi, I'm trying to use the same font I use in Adobe Muse on an image I'm creating in Photoshop CS6. In Adobe Muse, it was easy to add fonts by simply clicking "Add Web Font" and it opened a browser for me to select from many web safe fonts. Love this feature, by the way. In Photoshop, however, I do not have the same fonts listed and can find no place to get the fonts. I've tried downloading the fonts and putting them in my font folders but they do not show up on my list and they are web safe fonts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The font is question is Delius.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, billlywjr73,
Right now you can't use Typekit web fonts in Photoshop.
From the Typekit help, "Typekit only permits web-use for the fonts in our library, so we can’t provide you with a version of the fonts you use via Typekit to download and install. However, each font detail page includes a link to where you can buy an installable version of the font from the font’s designer/owner."
On the Photoshop community forum, Jeff Tranberry says it's something on their radar but no ETA yet.

  • How can I use phonetic fonts for cursors name

    Hi all!
I need to use phonetic characters in cursors names. Does somebody know wich font I have to use for this ?
One other problem is that I need to use Vietnamese characters at the same time. Is it possible to change the font of the cursors names run-time (in the diagram)?
Last quetion: Does LabVIEW support unicode? If yes,how can I use it?
    Thank you for your help!

Unfortunately, I don't know what the phonetic characters look like, so I
    can't
tell you what to type to enter them. If you find them in Word,
you should be able to copy them to the clipboard, they will be in
Unicode, and paste them into LV -- where they will be converted to dual
byte. If it doesn't work, try to find out if they are exist in the
locale of your machine, or more importantly, the target machine.
If you can display them, you can build a simple ring with short strings
containing the phonetic characters. When the user picks something from
the ring, use the strings property and value to index out the string and
replace/append to the string the user is editing. You will want to pay
attention to the string's selection if this is supposed to act like a
character palette and either do an insert or replace.
If you want a more compact grid menu, you will need to convert the
strings to images and paste them in a pict menu. That value can be used
to index a constant array that matches the order in the pict ring.

  • How can I use web fonts I purchased?

I purchased Avalon from Font Spring (http://www.fontspring.com/fonts/fontsite/avalon) and it came with web fonts.
How can I use the web fonts I bought with Adobe Muse?

    Hi,
An update: Adobe Muse CC 2014.1 (released earlier today) includes support for self-hosted web fonts. To use a specific font in your Muse site (such as the Avalon that you purchased from FontSpring), you will need to install the system font (properly licensed for desktop use) and provide the corresponding web font files (properly licensed for use on a website).
Give it a try and let us know if you need help or run into issues.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

  • Can I use Adobe fonts to create my eBook?

I want to create an eBook using a propriatory authoring tool and I want to use the Adobe fonts that I have bought.
Although it looks like the licence for the fonts I have does allow ebedded print & preview, this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/5199255#5199255 suggests that if my book isn't in one of the formats listed I'm not allowed to use those fonts in the eBook. I have just spent 45 frustrating minutes with the Call Centre failing to get an answer to this - does anyone know if I can use these fonts?
The eBook produced will sit in a container app that has full DRM - no one will be able to grab the code. The format is similar to ePub2 but with customisations.
Any help is VERY much appreciated.

You'll need to ask the folks at Yahoo but if I had to guess, I would say you cannot. They probably have their own proprietary system to build their websites.

  • Using Bitmap Fonts in MIDlet development

Any and all help appreciated on this.
I'm working on this assignment that requires use of bitmap fonts. We need 2 colors of fonts and 2 sizes. What's the best way to approach this?
Any places that you recommend buying them from and have used in your projects? Wish to stay away from ones that have heavy-duty licensing issues (lack of bandwidth to look into all legal possibilities). Are there any free ones available?
What are the other catches in this area?
    Thanks,
