Illustrator CC 17.1.0 Anchor Points Straying

Anyone else run into this issue?
1. Create 10 rounded rectangles.
2. Arrange them to create a maze effect in a 50px x 50px square
3. Merge the shapes together.
4. The problem is as I continue to touch the merged image the anchor points at the end of the prior seperate rectangles start moving by themselves, only slightly, but after a couple of touches (move around the page or rotate) it compounds and your have the ends of the rectangles looking like the are melting and not flowing with the rest of image. They either end up up skewed / flowing away from the rectangle or they bubble.
Other actions that might be worthwhile mentioning:
1. prior to the creation of rectangles. I cut and paste an small image from PS and pasted it into the AI document.
2. I saved the document into an SVG format and copied the SVG prior to saving.
Never had this happen before and making it a challenge to work with AI at the moment.
Thanks
Nolan

I have that set to align to pixel. Here is a simple example of what is happening.
I create the rectangle at the bottom of the image. Copy and paste rotate 45 and do it a third time and as you can see the shape is changing.
Adding a stroke, middle image end starts to warp and by the 3rd copy and paste the one side is flat. Im doing nothing other than copy and past and rotate.

  • Illustrator CS5 Rotate Tool Anchor Point Bug

    Summary:
I can reproduce this bug consistently, every single time.  I am unable to set a new anchor point for the rotate tool in Illustrator CS5.
    Steps to reproduce the bug:
    1.  Create a new shape, doesn't matter what
    2.  Press R or just select the rotate tool
    3.  Alt-Click to pick up the anchor point and drag to a new posiiton
    4.  Let the mouse go- at this point the anchor stays locked to the cursor even if I click and am only able to unlock it from the cursor if I click on a new tool, but without getting to choose a new anchor point.
Also I tried this with a Intuos 2 tablet and pen with the same results.  I have an NVidia Quadro FX 3500 card installed with the latest driver as well.
I'm not sure if this issue is related, but also in After Effects CS5 if I press 0 to start doing a preview and then click away say on Firefox, then click back to After Effects, I am unable to click around inside After Effects to get the render to stop.  It makes me wait until the whole comp is pushed into a ram preview before it unlocks itself.
    Any ideas?

I too experience this problem and was hoping to find a solution.  I've tried reverting to early Wacom Driver versions with no success. I find that if you "break the connection" between the pen and the tablet then the rotate point will drop and the rotate dialog will appear.  I've found that this only works reliably when lifting the pen straight up off of the tablet til it loses signal. Not ideal for precision work.  You'll notice that the rotate point drops when you move over to the menus, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the "drawing area."

  • CS5 Illustrator - making anchor points visible

    Hello
In older versions of Illustrator the anchor points show up when you are creating a path. They don't show up in this version. Any way to make them visible?
    Thanks in advance.

Did you accidentially hit Cmd(Ctrl)-H which is the toggle for Hide/Show Edges?

  • Illustrator cc 2014 adds anchor points to guides

What is happening with illustrator CC 2014!!! I have placed a guide to know where to add a anchor point cliked on the add anchor point tool but when i select the object i want to add the anchor point to it adds an anchor point to the guide!!!! so i locked the guide thinking that this would solve the problem it then gives me a warning sign saying please use on a segment of the path it still thinks the guide is a path!!!

    wozza,
Are you sure you are selecting the path, not the guid?
It may be time to look at the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Need Help in Illustrator - Anchor Points to Dots

I'm doing some work in Illustrator related to 3D modeling and i can export from the 3D aplication vector data to illustrator.
My problem is i would like that the vertexs from the 3D model would show up like dots. And i dont know how to make in Illustrator.
I see 2 possibilities that i don't know how to acomplish:
    - There is a way to make illustrator render anchor points like dots.
    - There is a way to place and object (like a circle) in each anchor point automaticly.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers

    Here is my answer
Okay, I consider this potentially dangerous, because I don't know all the ramifications, never tried it before... but it initially appears to work. (I'm using CS3)
Draw your path point to point.
With the path selected, Select > Object> Direction handles
Delete (this should leave the points, no connecting lines)
With the points selected, Effect > Convert to Shape > Ellipse
Specify an appropriate radius. Set fill to black after the effect is applied. Save a Graphic Style to reuse.

  • Anchor Points and handles disappearing in Illustrator CC – Windows 8

    Hi,
    I'm hoping someone can help.
This is becoming a consistently re-occurring issue for me, and it's not specific to any particular file.
The bounding box is visible, so I have a blue outline and blue "anchor points" at the end of each line, and I can even use the new CC round edges option, however I have no anchor points to do any resizing, and I can't hover the black arrow tool just outside the edges of a shape to quickly rotate it.
It's not a case of going into preferences/view and turning on bounding box and/or show anchor points (Ctrl+Shft+B) nor (Ctrl+H). This seems to happen to me randomly but consistently, on new or existing files, and there's no rhyme or reason to when it happens. I could have been working on the file for 2 hours or 2 minutes and it can just kick in.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Probably worth noting that I also have CC on my Mac and I tend not to see the issue, it happens occasionally but nowhere near to the same extent as the Windows version, and I've experienced the issue occasional on older versions of Illustrator also, so it just seems like an inherent issue on these versions rather than the inhibiting barrier it's proving to be on CC Windows.

  • In illustrator, is there a way to reduce anchors points in a segment path without altering the path?

In illustrator, is there a way to reduce anchors points in a segment path without altering the path?
Is there a better and more efficient way to reduce anchors points than using the pen-minus tool?
    Thanks.

That's what the Simplify command is for. It tries to reduce the number of segments while you judge the results and adjust the parameters accordingly.
Of course, if any given curve were possible with just two anchors, then all paths could have just two anchors. So obviously, fewer segments is not always possible.
As with many other things, though, you need to realize this: Automatic functions have no human discernment whatsoever. That's just as true in the matter of optimizing paths as it is in auto-tracing. The program routine which tries to figure out which anchors can go and which anchors must stay has absolutely no idea of what the path is actually a drawing of. Only you know that. So the bottom line remains the same: Optimizing paths correctly should be done with deliberate discernment, not just left up to dumb automated routines.
Illustrators draw paths deliberately--one anchor at a time--for good reason.

  • Illustrator free distort does not transform anchor points

When using Illustrator CS5 after applying the Free Distort effect, the anchor points remain in the original location. How can I get the anchor points to align to the transformed object?

It is an effect so it does not really change the object. That's why you can always go back and change or delete the effect.
If you want the effect permanently applied select Object > Expand Appearance.

  • Is it possible to disable anchor points in illustrator cs3?

I just got my wacom tablet and want to disable anchor points in illustrator. I've tried hiding edge and disable auto/add delete in the preference general section.
I want to be able to draw freely without anchor points connecting with all my shapes that are next to eachother.
How can I disable the anchor points so it'll allow me to free draw?
    Thanks.

    Pen tool or brush tool?
Brush tool: Double-click on the brush tool button itself in the toolbar.  Adjust settings accordingly. (specifically "keep selected")
Pen tool:  No such luck.  Hit the command key to toggle the last used selection tool and click somewhere to deselect.  Or hit command-shift-a to deselect all.

  • How do I fix my Pen Tool/Delete Anchor Point Tool in Illustrator?

Problem One - I'm trying to change the form of my shape, and all of a sudden my Delete Anchor Point Tool isn't working. I'm clicking (and zoomed in A LOT) and it's not clicking on or deleting any of my anchor points.
Problem Two - I'm not sure if it's just the slow speed of my work computer, but I'm trying to trace a shape in a photo that I have locked in the background, and when I click my pen tool it makes the point like 2 to 5 pixels away from where I'm clicking, so I can't precisely trace the shape that I would like to.
Any tips and help on this ASAP would be great! Getting stuck like this is throwing off my productivity and it's very frustrating!
    Thank you!

The problem was Google Chrome browser!  As soon as I quit Chrome my pen tool started working again.  I didn't even need to restart Fireworks.  I wonder if it is a conflict with one of my plugins/add ons.  Most likely.
UPDATE - I did narrow it down to one specific Google Chrome extension.  It was "Google Play Music"

  • Deleting anchor point, deletes entire path

Need a solution...when I create a path with the pen tool I am unable to delete anchor points without deleting the entire path. Using the Pen tool + option reveals the white arrow (Direct Selection Tool) - I click and drag a box around the desired anchor point - the selected point is then black - all other points along the path are not filled with black - hence they are not selected - I hit the delete button - instead of the single selected point being deleted, the path is deleted. In the past I would have to quit and reboot PS to clear the problem - that fix is no longer working.
    Any suggestions. Thanks.
    CS4
    Mac 10.6.4
    4GB RAM

Had another look at this and I will try to be as brief as possible.
I forgot to point out in my first comment that I had auto add/delete points selected and with that selected the pen tool autmatically shows the delete point tool when the tool is over a point. Clicking would then remove the point and the path direction will be modified. It is not possible to remove a point from a bezier path without modifying the paths direction, or to remove an end point from a path, this is the mathmatical law involved. If you need a gap in the path, place a new point either side of the required gap the delete the path between them. T modify the end of a path, ie. shorten it, you will still need to place a point where you desire the path to end. If as you suggest the whole path is deleted I can only imagine you may be accidentaly double deleting, as the whole of the path becomes selected when you have deleted a point and a second click will delete the rest of the path.
I have tried to reproduce your problem and so this is what i can come up with. I have been using Adobe Illustrator an Photoshop since 1990 and I have not come across this before.
Hope you find a solution as i do appreciate the frustration it can cause.

  • Is it possible to show anchor points permanently???

I'm copying a map by tracing over it in Illustrator. The original map was also made in Illustrator, but I need to rearrange borders of countries, as I am making a WWII map.
QUESTION: Is it possible to turn anchor points on permanently so that I can trace precisely over the original borders by placing the new anchor points exactly over the old anchor points?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    - Nick

    Hi Jacob,
    Exactly, thanks for your reply.
I have to follow the path. However I need to make some adjustments, e.g. : Romania.
On a modern day map, Romania is smaller than it was before WWII when it included Bessarabia (modern day Moldova). So I would retrace Romania's modern day border to the south and west as it didn't change since before WWII. But I would have to alter Romania's northern border to include Moldova. That's why I need to be able to see the original anchor points so that I can trace precisely over them, except where the borders have changed.
I'm using Illustrator CS5. The original map was an svg file downloaded from Wikipedia Commons.

  • How do You See Anchor Points When Object is Unselected

Hi, In Adobe Illustrator is there any way of viewing the anchor points of objects permanently even when an object is unselected? So you can see where the points are when you are making shapes with the pen tool. If there was, this would make it a lot easer to place the points on existing points of other shapes without having to guess where they are. Thanks for you help Gareth.

Oh no! I just noticed when using it, that it is not as useful as I thought, because if you want to put a point anywhere near the 90º or 45º line from the last one it forces you to put in on that line, it's great that it lets you see the points on the other shapes but too bad it makes you do that. and you can't turn off smart guides while making a shape because it stops that shape and starts a new one. That's a bit annoying, so it's still easier to do it without smart guides guessing where the points are and correct them later with the white arrow if you missed any. Thanks for you help though. Gareth.

  • Show not selected anchor points (and connect)

    Hello.
Every now and then I have the problem in Illustrator that I want to connect two anchor points with the pen tool. The two anchor points belong to different objects. Is there any way to always show all anchor points. Today I have to select one of the object to see the first anchor point I want to connect. And then hovering the point over the plaece where I presume the second anchor point is located until the mouse icon indicates that I have the pointer at an anchor point.
A second question: Is there any way to connect more than two “lines” to an anchor point? I.e intersect and connect an anchorpoint in the middle of a line with a third anchor point.

    Almost.
My thought was that if I could see all anchorpoints of all objects, without selecting the objects. Ie. se all "white" anchor points,  when I select them they will become "filled/blue".

  • Anchor points move and entire shape gets distorted from changing stroke thickness

I have a fairly simple drawing that I drew at a larger size so I could be precise with it, and now I want to reduce it down to the finished size, and thicken the stroke, but when I make the stroke thicker, my anchor points move and the entire drawing gets distorted.
In 24 years of using Adobe Illustrator, I've never seen this happen. When I click on the "up" arrow on the Stroke palette a bunch of times to incrementally increase the stroke thickness, I can watch the anchor points "walk" around as my shape gets distorted.
If I instead enter a numerical value for the stroke thickness, this doesn't happen.
However, if I use the Scale tool to shrink the drawing down to 10% or 20% size or whatever, with Scale Strokes and Effects UNCHECKED, again, the anchor points move and the drawing is distorted.
This is all on a brand new installation of Illustrator CS 6 for Mac (though I've been using CS 6 for about 2 years now, my hardrive crashed this past weekend and I had to reinstall everything).
Did I miss a little checkbox somewhere that I've never seen before that's making this happen?
    Editing this post to add:
Also, some of the objects in my drawing will not allow me to change the stroke to less than 1 point thickness. If I choose .5 or .25 pt from the pop-up menu, or even if I enter the numerical value, it jumps back to 1 point. Other objects in the drawing do not.
These objects in question are "rounded rectangle" shapes that I've used the scissor tool on to cut and then used the "join" command to put them together with parts of other shapes that were "scissored' as well.
All of the "Ellipse" and "Rounded Rectangle" shapes that I left intact do not exhibit this problem with stroke and distortion.

You are being bitten by the Align-to-Pixel-Grid. Select everything and go to the Transform panel and turn off Align-to-Pixel-Grid at the bottom of the panel; then go to the panel flyout (small triangle, upper right) and turn off Align Objects to Pixel Grid.
