Illustrator CC 18.1.0 crashes when saving files (Save As)

I recently purchased and installed Adobe Creative Cloud 2014. When using Illustrator 2014.1.0 (18.1.0), the app frequently crashes when I try to save a file (Save As... to another format such as SVG). It's not repeatable every time, but it happens fairly often enough to lose work. Occasionally, it will crash when attempting to open a file - the app freezes when I try to navigate to a folder in the Open File dialog box and then crashes. I have never seen it crash when launching the app, and I do not have any external tablets (such as Wacom) or any third-party plug-ins installed. I'm running Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite with a 2009 13-inch MacBook Pro with 8 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.
I've searched through the Adobe forums and in other online resources and have only found threads about Illustrator crashing during startup or when having incompatible third-party plug-ins or certain Wacom tablets installed, of which I have neither.
Anyone have any suggestions of a fix or workaround?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Macbook-adobe
What happens when you try to open any file from the same location where you are saving the file using Save As command ?
Will it be possible to join a connect session with me ?
Please do let me know about your time availability ?
Thanks & Regards,

  • Indesign CS4, CS5.1, CS5.5 all crash when saving files

    Hi,
One of our users is experiencing a crash when trying to save files in InDesign.  He has OS X 10.7.  This occurs in the CS4, 5.1, and 5.5 versions - all three versions he has installed on his computer.  We ran font finagler which has resolved issues for us before but it did not resolve the issue.  We also reset the preferences in each version using the keyboard shortcut.  It did not work either.
I uploaded a crash log from CS5.5 to pastebin:
    http://pastebin.com/9MLThyPw
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at your crash report, Suitcase does not appear to be implicated.
Instead, your crash is in this odd plugin:
    com.adobe.InDesign.Telescope.sdk
    Which appears to be in:
    0x17274000 - 0x17292ff3 +com.adobe.InDesign.Telescope.sdk (7.1.2 - ???) <97F7B6BF-280E-4A72-4820-09258E50379F> /Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/*/Telescope.sdk
I guess this is the North Plains TeleScope DAM system? Shame on them! They're not allowed to name their plugin "com.adobe.anything" if they're not Adobe!
Anyhow, try removing the plugin. Assuming that fixes it, contact them.

  • Photoshop is Crashing when saving files

Hello, I have been having some trouble saving files.  Sometimes, and usually with the first file, Photoshop will crash when I try and save a file.  It also happens when I try and open a file into photoshop.  Most specifically, when I try and open my watermark file (png).  I have deleted the preferences, and am working on a freshly installed version of Windows 7.  Here is the crash report I was able to retrieve.  I am usually not able to retreive this info, because in most cases, Photoshop just completely dissapears instantly.

    StackHash implies memory corruption.
By and large, during software development, the number 1 reason I've isolated for that is problems in display drivers.  That's not to say it's the only reason memory could be corrupted, but it's more common than most people would think.
What video card do you have, and what version of display driver?
Does the problem persist if you disable OpenGL Drawing in Edit - Preferences - Performance (then restart Photoshop)?

  • Framemaker 7.0 consistently crashes when saving files as .rtf (and other related issues)

Thank you first of all for any help from anyone.  Secondly, I apologize for any of my FrameMaker naivety, I am just a beginner with it really.
I am having a problem when saving out FrameMaker files to rtf format (for eventual conversion to word -- some people just want parts of book in word so they can mess around with it).  Frequently, framemaker crashes and gives me a message such as this below. What can I do to get our documents into word format?
secondly, when i get them into word format, sometimes I have this problem when paragraph marks are turned on in word -- people that have recieved the word files I send them have complained about this and unfortunately they are people I cannot tell to just turn off the paragraph marks.  Why is that repeated text inserted into the line? It should just say "Removing Constraints" (with no parenthesis marks).  Some of our chapters are very long and manually removing this is not applicable.
    thanks for any help!

About the {XE xxx} fields in your output file, that's the way FM converts index markers and their content when outputting RTF; FM automatically turns on the display of these fields. I believe it's the same with cross-references and all other kinds of marker output.
With MIF2Go you can specify what to do with each different type of marker, so you could choose to delete them completely if you wanted, or else to retain the markers but convert them to the correct index references in RTF. Here's the section in the MIF2Go manual about the markers:
    http://www.omsys.com/dcl/usergd/rtfref_0120_5141_generating_an_index_in_word.htm#Xz105x557 827
    http://www.omsys.com/dcl/usergd/rtfref_0119_514_modifying_word_output_after_conversion.htm
I'm not sure whether MIF2Go has a way to control the actual display of these fields in the RTF or not, or whether that would need to be done by a vbscript after the RTF has been generated.

  • Frame 9 crashes when saving files

I experienced multiple crashes yesterday when saving a Frame 9 (version 9.0p196) book file. I received internal errors 9004, 5296195, 5297125, and 5754179. I've been using this Frame version for several months without issue and successfully saved a book file minutes before the crash. I located and sent the log files to Adobe. Any thoughts on how I can correct this problem would be appreciated as I'm currently unable to work in Frame.

Here are the answers to your questions:
    * What flavor of XP
Windows XP Professional, v.2002, Service Pack 3
    * How much RAM and free space are on the system?
1.96 GB RAM; 81 GB free space
    * Are the files local or on the network? Did they start life as FM 9 files, or are they older FM versions, or content converted from another ap, like Word?
The files are on a network drive. We're long-time Frame users, so the files started life over time and several Frame versions. We're using Tech Comm Suite 2, upgrading from TC Suite 1 several months ago without issue. I worked in these files frequently over the last few days and had no problems until yesterday.
    * Did this just start, or has it always been like this?
The problem just started. I had successfully saved and published a book to PDF, closed the files, and opened another book that includes three files. I made some minor changes, but when I tried to save the files Frame crashed. Both books are less than 20 pages and contain the same text inset. I don't know if the text inset has any bearing on the problem, but thought I should mention it.
    * How many open files are you talking about? Does the crash seem linked to more or fewer files -- will it work OK with 6 open, but always crash with 9?
I successfully opened, saved, and closed a single file and a different book with three files. Neither book contained the text inset I mentioned above. I've successfully opened the books with this particular text inset previously and can't think of anything I did differently before the crash.

  • Soundbooth crashes when saving file as wmv or wma

    Hi,
I have Soundbooth wmv and just recently I have encountered the following bug.  After working on a sound file I go to 'save as' to save the file as a windows media file (wma).
Nothing happens soundbooth just seems to freeze although in the task manager it is identified as running.  I also get the impression that a window is missing (Normally a window pops up when you select this I think).
Has anyone else encountered this bug, and know of anyway to resolve it before we do the whole un-install and re-install.
Saving files as MP3 etc does not cause an issue.
    Thanks
    Tim

Save to PDF or a pixel format? Flatten the gradient, so it gets embedded as pixel data in the EPS with a vector clipping mask? Depending on what kind of gradient you use that would look better, anyways. If the EPS cannot express your gradient as a native gradient, it will be converted a set of stacked fill objects and that may not look good at all due to the quantization and banding. It's an inherent limitation and using an old AI certainly doesn't make things easier. Also try to expand the text and separate each letter. That would change the structure of the resulting EPS file and it may be able to express your gradient fills proiperly on a per obejct basis then.

  • FrameMaker 10 Crashes when saving file after cut & paste

FrameMaker consistantly crashes, everytime, when doing a save file after doing a cut and paste of table data from one open FrameMaker file to another. This only happens with a specific table. I have had this happen consistantly over the past year with various docs and table data. Usually it occurs when trying to cut & paste data that has edit tacking turned on, but in this instance this is not the case. FrameMaker is fully up to date. Running WINXP
Internal Error 10024, 6379539, 6372417, 6385921, FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit.

    > This only happens with a specific table.
If you can isolate the trigger factor, that would enable two things:
    1. other FM users, some with Support, could confirm and re-report,
    2. Adobe would be able to find the root cause quicker.
Is it a specific Table Catalog table, regardless of content, or
specific table content regardless of table format?
Possibly unrelated anecdote ... as I've mentioned, when we get Err7103
crashes, it's often well after the real damage has already happened.
We have seen cases where huge sections of a document appear to
vanish. In at least one instance, the content did not disappear.
It got moved into a table cell, and was largely invisible.
I can imagine that hidden table structures of sufficient complexity,
or sufficient degeneracy (e.g. unbalanced tags, garbage structs,
containing cross-refs to self*), could make the document unstable.
    * When the size of the .fm file increases with every save (and no
changes), circular cross-refs are a likely cause.

  • Pages crashes when saving files in mavericks

I have a 17" macbookpro and have installed mavericks on it about 2 months ago.
It has become extremely slow and when I am using the new pages it crashes frequently. Usually, when I duplicate a file in order to rename it and then try to save the original, pages crashes everys ingle time.
I just got back from a genius bar apptmt and was told that I probably need to erase and reinstall.
I would like ot just solve the pages issue, as it will take me forever to do an erase and reinstall of mavericks.
    Anyhelp is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    What version of Pages?
Have you Validated your fonts in Font Book?
Also make sure you have at least 10-15% space free on your hard drive, OSX likes lots of elbow room to write temporary files.
Are you using Time Machine/ and/or iCloud? That can also slow your work down dramatically.

  • Adobe bridge crashes when saving illustrator files

    Hi there,
We are developing custom connector using Adobe Drive SDK for our DAM system, the integration with CS was working fine, we recently updated Adobe Drive to 4.2, and we are encountering bridge crashes when saving illustrator file. It didn't happen with older version(4.0.2) of Adobe Drive, not sure why. I pin point the part that causing the issue: in our custom connector, we have READ_XMP_METADATA capability which we need to display the thumbnails and previews, and in the ftp sample connector, this capablity is not included originally, so the issue does not happen, but if I add this capabilty, the crash issue happens as well. If we exclude this capablity from our connector, this crash issue doesn't happen.
We noticed this only happens when saving illustrator file, not photoshop or indesign, and it seems that only in illustrator, when save, and the bridge has the current file folder showing, we are seeing there are twice folder refreshes, and usually it will crash after the second time. In photoshop and indesign, we don't see folder refreshes. If switch to other folder, the crash won't happen. We tested on both windows and Mac, on Mac, this seems happen less often. Another thing we noticed is in debug mode, or we have many debug logging turned on, the crash happens less often, if it is deployed with no debug logging, the crash happens almost everytime. So we are guessing it might be some synchronization problem.
Could you please advice what's the cause of this issue?
    Thanks,
    Katherine

    Has it ever worked?
What kind of files are they and where do you save them?
Is a printer connected, set up and turned ON?
Have you already tried resetting the preferences?
Generally it's not a good idea to just save old files, because then some artwork may be automatically flattened. Illustrator will save the file to the old version file-format and if you used new features in-between, those cannot stay live in the old version file format.

That won't do. What I mean is you have to navigate to the file and make it active in pastebin and then copy the highlighted line like this
and paste that into your reply.

  • Illustrator CC crashes when saving to network drive

    Hi all,
We have 3 Macs all running 10.10 or 10.9 which crash when saving eps file types (PDF saves fine) to a NetApp network drive using Illustrator CC 2014.1.0 release.
Users can save files locally and then copy the files to the network drive with no problems.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Colin

    Colin,
It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky, at least for a while, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
In addition to the (far greater) risk of file corruption, some issues are mentioned here:

  • Illustrator CS6 crashes when saving or printing

A couple weeks ago, my AI CS6 started crashing when saving complex line work (Rhino Make2D exports) or when I tried to check the printer setting. I've reinstalled AI and installed the latest updates. For a few days, the saving problem went away but it has returned today. I have cleared the preferences folder.
    I am running Windows 7.
Is this a Rhino/AutoCAD export issue? The saving problem persists even when I copied a small section of the linework to a fresh AI document. Simple vectors don't lead to saving problems. Thanks!

You need to provide system information or else this is no use to anyone...

  • FrameMaker crashes when saving a file as XML

    Hello -
I am encountering a problem saving a .fm file as a .xml file. I have saved many .fm files as .xml files in the past with no issues. However, lately FM crashes with a "serious error" on certain files when I try the same save process. My initial thought was that the file was somehow corrupted, but this morning I ran into this scenario: I have 3 FM licenses in my office, I was trying to save a .fm file as .xml and FM kept crashing. So I had another co-worker try to save the exact same file as a .xml file and it WORKED!?!?!?!
We all were using FM 11, but I have since installed FM 12 thinking that version 12 wouldnt have the same problem, but the same issue is happening with both versions of FM. I read that FM has issues when working across a network so I have tried it both ways, across the network and locally and the same issue occurs.
Again, this problem occurs occasionally on various files - not every file, but as previously mentioned I was able to successfully save a file on a different machine that I could not save on my machine. I have the most recent log file that was generated after a crash:
[*** LOG FILE REMOVED BY MODERATOR***]
Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.
    Gavin

    An update -
So FM now appears to crash "sometimes" when saving as an xml file AND when saving the file in general. I have 3 machine with FramMaker installed, first with version 11 now with version 12. These 3 machines are all identical as far as SW running on them, etc... I have been unable to detect a pattern as to when FM will crash thus far. Sometimes it will crash when I try to save the file as an .xml file and sometimes it will save just fine. I have resorted to marking up the document a little at a time, saving the file, then trying to save as an XML file. It will work sometimes and other times it will crash. Sometimes it crashes when trying to save the .fm file other times it works; sometimes it will crash when I try to save the .fm file as a .xml file, other times it will work. About the only thing in common that I have found thus far is the fact that it happens with the same file over and over again; meaning that if I have a pool of 12 files that I need to load into FM and markup, 11 of the 12 files may work just fine and the 12 file will not - it will crash FM at some point in the markup/saving process every time. One might guess that the original file is somehow corrupt and that may be, but at this point I am not sure how I prove that is the case as FM seems to load it in just fine and I can save it right off the bat just fine. Does anyone know how I can prove that the structured file i receive initially is corrupt when it loads into FM fine? If we were causing some issue with the import of our modified EDD then why dont we have the same issue with the other 11 files in the batch as they all are using the same EDD?
I have sent my most recent log files to adobe tech support this morning. I have tried saving files on shared drives as well as on local drives. I have tried the same process on the other workstations with the same results.
Does anyone have ideas on how I can isolate a problem with the source file (structured doc) or on why FM is crashing when I perform these actions?
    Thanks,
    Gavin (Ryan)
