Illustrator CC 2014 and UTC

We just upgraded to Universal Type Client and now Illustration quits when we try to start it. Is anyone else having this problem? What can be done?

DCS 1.0 or DCS 2.0?
(According to the Illustrator Reference Manual, AI supports DCS 1.0 for CMYK only, and DCS 2.0 for CMYK and additional spot colors, which also appear in the swatches panel.)
Except in rare circumstances, I stopped using DCS a couple of decades ago. Just curious: why DCS and not regular Photohop CMYK files, or CMYK tiff, etc.?

  • Problems installing Illustrator CC (2014) and InDesign CC (2014) on OS X Yosemite

    I'm currently having problems installing Illustrator CC (2014) and InDesign CC (2014) on OS X Yosemite. Both applications fail with the message "Installation Failed: The download appears corrupted. Please try again after a few minutes.(-60)".
    I've tried uninstalling Illustrator CC and InDesign CC and then reinstalling, but still get the same error message. Other applications in Creative Cloud all install without issues.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue and resolved it please?

    Sorry for the slow response. My Mac wouldn't boot following a failed Yosemite update. I've since reinstalled Yosemite but the exact same problem persists. My Mac is standalone and not on a managed network.
    Thank you for the troubleshooting link. I've tried the recommended fix for the -60 error but it doesn't appear to be possible to download the trial version of Illustrator or InDesign for CC editions. They just trigger the Creative Cloud installer and shortly after the -60 error again.
    The problem is still specific to Illustrator and InDesign and I've tried uninstalling all Creative Cloud applications and reinstalling. Every reinstalls except InDesign and Illustrator.

  • Three named apps installed, illustrator cc, illustrator cc 2014 and illustrator cc 64. Do I need all three?

    Three named apps installed, illustrator cc, illustrator cc 2014 and illustrator cc 64. Do I need all three?

    Hi Htwinj,
    Illustrator CC is a 32-bit Illustrator creative cloud application, Illustrator 64 is a 64-bit Illustrator creative cloud application and Illustrator 2014 is the latest version Illustrator CC(2014) application.
    If you want to stay at the latest version then you can uninstall the rest of the applications it won't create any impact of your application.
    Let us know for further query.

    Just downloaded Illustrator CC 2014 and none of the new features are showing up.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!  I really need to figure it out so I can start using the awesome new features for Illustrator.

    in creative cloud does it show as up to date? if not "Update illustrator"
    if it does I would think about uninstalling illustrator and re-installing.
    option for that is to the left of the up to date green tick.

  • Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 and Indesign CC 2014 Crashing

    I have had some significant issues with Adobe Illustrator and Indesign CC over the past week.  Previous to this I had no issues.  Now, each time I run the programs and place an image, they will crash the moment I try to move the placed image.  I am running a macbook retina with plenty of processing power.  I have tried reinstalls, restarts etc to absolutely no avail.  This is very frustrating.
    If it's useful I can include my most recent crash report.  Any help anyone can provide would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Cklapwyk
    Are you using the Creative Cloud 2013 or 2014 applications? Are you receiving any errors? Are you using any font management software like Extensis suitcase?
    See this link if you are & update the plugin. http://blog.extensis.com/adobe/extensis-compatiblity-adobe-cc-2014.php
    Have you tried resetting the application preferences to see if that helps?
    See: Illustrator Help | Setting preferences
    InDesign Help | Setting preferences
    Can you create new files and place images from the desktop with out crashing? Does this happen when working with simple objects?
    You might try creating a new administrator user account to see if the apps will launch under the new user account.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CC 2014 and DCS files

    I've noticed since upgrading to CC 2014 that when working with DCS files, my Illustrator now comes to a grinding halt. I can place the original DCS file with ease. But if I go back and want to replace the file with a new DCS, the system lags and doesn't respond. I have plenty of disk space and RAM ... not sure what the problem is. I cannot even select the DCS from the links panel. I have found it is easier and quicker to ditch the already existing ai file and just create a new one. But this is annoying and results in sizing inaccuracies. Anyone else having a similar issue?

    DCS 1.0 or DCS 2.0?

  • Bug? Illustrator CC 2014 and Pixel Grid settings not working.

    Hello,
    I've noticed that in Illustrator CC '14 when I go to make a new web document with "Align New Objects to Pixel Grid" selected, as I'm working in the document none of the new shapes I draw actually align to the grid without me manually going into the Transform panel and selecting the option for each new shape.
    Is there a new setting in '14 I'm missing? Obviously it's not a completely crippling behavior as there's a work around, but it is still quite annoying and slows my work flow down. Any help or insight is appreciated.

    THIS IS A DAMMED ANNOYING CHOICE FOR BEHAVIOR, ADOBE.
    My current position entails building lots of wireframes, and working amongst several other designers (9999 times out of 10000 aren't going to care or figure out alignments and "expand rectangle" every time they make a box.) Even if I actually manage to build a file where things adhere to a world of pixels, it will be ruined the moment I hand it to someone else.
    There should be – ANYWHERE, I don't care if it's in Preferences or View, or Tool panel – an option which basically indicates "I'M BUILDING THIS FOR A SCREEN MADE OF PIXELS, SO DON'T EVER PUT SOMETHING AT A FRACTION OF A PIXEL."
    Wasn't there a perfectly good application we're supposed to transition away from, something called Fireworks?

  • Just installed Illustrator cc 2014 and sub menus in tool bar not responisve

    just upgraded to latest version of illustrator and sub menus within tool palette aren't responsive. I.e shear under scale, or ellipse under rectangle. anyone else experiencing this? and how to fix?

    You left-click and hold the mouse?
    Is this Windows with 2 monitors?
    Then you might have run into a bug. You can get at the tools with Alt-click to switch through them.

  • Why are my Illustrator CC 2014 text, icon, and panel sizes too big? It's treating me like an old person.

    The photo on the left is Illustrator CC 2014 and the one on the right is Illustrator CC. As you can see the icons and text on the left are enlarged, resulting in less space for the document. I couldn't see anything in preferences about this. Does anyone know how I can fix this? None of my other CC 2014 apps did this... Is it a computer setting or a CC setting?

    I don't have CC so I can't test this, but apparently since 17.1 on Windows the illustrator UI scales to 150 or 200% depending on your OS scaling settings. it might have something to do with it:

  • Smart guides and snap to point not working in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014

    Hello,
    I am having a lot of issues with Illustrator CC 2014 and the Smart Guides. Every time I try and snap one object to another or snap an object to a guide, the object snaps either above or below the guide/object but never snaps correctly. This also happens when I am zoomed in all the way!
    I do not have align to pixel grid or snap to grid turned on.

    David,
    I do not have align to pixel grid or snap to grid turned on
    It sounds as if Illy thinks the former.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • How can I turn off the Illustrator CC 2014 hello screen permanently?

    I just upgraded to Illustrator CC 2014, and I'm somewhat baffled by the apparent inability to turn off the hello screen. Maybe it's easy, but I don't see how to do it.
    Under the "Help" menu I do see a check mark beside "Hello...", but clicking it does not turn the hello screen off. When I shut down the screen using the red x in the panel's upper left corner, it does go away, and it can be turned back on using the "Help" menu entry. I just don't want it to appear... ever. I'd love to be able to use Illustrator the way I want to and not feel the need to close that superfluous panel every time I open the software.
    Thanks ahead of time for any input.

    @ThePorge - are you sure you're looking at the bottom of the "Getting Started", "New Features", or "Tips & Techniques" panel?  You'll need to scroll down to the bottom of them to see the footer where this checkbox is located.  (Its not in the Create panel at all.)  If you can't find it, its possible the software thinks you're a trial user for some reason.  Do you see a Days Left in Your Trial countdown in the upper right corner of the Welcome screen?  That would indicate it thinks you're a trial user.  Can you attach a screen shot?

  • Illustrator CC 2014 GUI/Cursors way too big on 1080p display

    I have a Windows 8.1 laptop with a 1080p display and have the scaling set at Medium (125%).
    Upon launching Illustrator CC 2014 (and Indesign CC 2014), the GUI is HUGE.  It's like they are scaling at 200% even though I'm only at 125%.  This might be good for a "Retina" or quad HD display, but for just an HD display, this just wastes valuable screen real estate and the cursors are comically large and not precise at all.
    I tried disabling the DPI scaling by right clicking on the application, going to the Compatibility tab, and selecting "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" but it has no effect on what the GUI looks like.  It appears as though Illustrator sees some sort of scaling and automatically assumes I want it boosted to 200% without abiding by what Windows is telling it to do.
    Is there any way to turn this off and go back to no scaling at all?  Or better yet, have it actually listen to the Windows setting of 125%?

    Hi millerrh,
    With Ai 2014.1 (18.1) update, we have provided an option in preferences to snap AI's UI scaling to snap to lower or higher supported scale. Since AI only supports 100%, 150% and 200%, for scale percentages which are not supported by AI. e,g. 125%, you can choose to snap to 100% to 150%, similarly for 175%, you can choose to snap to 150% or 200%.
    You can also completely turn off the scaling if you so desire.
    Sanjay.

    I had a lot of problems getting some of these 2014 updates to install.  Most of the applications installed properly, but I had errors on both Photoshop and Illustrator CC and CC (2014).  I also had a problem with Bridge, elements and InDesign.  I finally rebooted my computer.  I got failures again on all the same programs.  Then I launched Photoshop CC (2014) just to see if it even worked.  It did launch, but it immediately crashed.  I also launched the failed installation of Illustrator CC (2014) and it did not crash.  But after this, I initiated the updates again individually and each one installed without errors.
    Photoshop CC (2014) now shows everything is up to date, but it still immediately crashes as soon as it finishes loading on launch.
    Illustrator CC (2014) does not crash on load; I don't know about being active in it.
    InDesign CC (2014 does not crash on load; I don't know about being active in it.
    I don't know if this same "stab in the dark" method I used will work for you, but I thought I'd share it anyway.  If it works, maybe reply here and tell us whether or not your Photoshop CC (2014) crashes or not.
    Edit - Added Information:  Normally, graphics driver updates do not help any problems I have ever had, but in this case, updating the driver for my graphics card has stopped Photoshop CC (2014) crashing.
