Illustrator CC Compound Path backward compatibility issues

I have a file created in CS6, it contains compound paths, it will not open correctly in CC.  I have saved it as .eps, and down to illustrator 10 with no success on CC.  CC drops many of the paths, and creates bizarre transparencies that do not exist in the original file.  I need to share this file (and many others like it) with colleagues who are on CC... but cannot figure out what is going on.  Any suggestions are welcome as I've hit a wall here... I've never seen anything like it.
Links to the files in question:
Saved to v10: Dropbox - badconversion_AI10.ai
Saved to EPS from CS6 Dropbox - badconversion.eps
Thanks.

When opening your CS6 file in CC it looks like this:
The EPS looks like this:
The Ai 10 looks like this:
Since I don't know how it should look, I can't know what went wrong.
Usually if you just hand them the CS6 file it should cause the least problems. Converting it to EPS or Ai10 makes no sense at all when all the other people use Illustrator CC.

  • Specific Flash Player 10 Backward Compatibility Issue

There's an issue with backward compatibility on Flash Player
10 that is breaking a lot of Flash content that was created with a
tool that I develop and sell. It is to do with the way
    globalToLocal and localToGlobal handles NaN.
I've reported it on the bugbase at
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-964
There are more details here -
    http://www.questionwriterblog.com/archives/2008/11/scrollbar_causing_content_to_disappear. html
The impact of the bug can be seen here.
    http://www.questionwriter.com/samples/fp10problem/v1perceptions.swf
It is a serious enough backward compatibility issue, and
doubtless affects other content too. I'm hoping for the outcome
that the functionality will be restored in future player releases -
but right now, can someone give me confirmation it is on the Flash
    Player team radar?

  • Known backwards compatibility issues between Robohelp 9 and Robohelp 8?

    Hi Group,
In addition to avoiding the tasks in the Review menu, does anyone know of any other backwards compatibility issues encountered while opening and using files generated in RoboHelp 9 from within Robohelp 8? Thanks, gail

    Welcome to the forum.
Simply the fact that RoboHelp 8 will not open a project that has been run in RoboHelp 9. Sure you might well open a project by deleting the CPD and perhaps the XPJ and using the HHP, however I would not recommend that except in an emergency.
What I am not clear on is how you link that to "avoiding the tasks in the Review menu." What has that got to do with the question?

  • Backwards compatibility issue

I've made some files using Photoshop CC (mac) and I'm trying to open them on a PC using Photoshop CS2 (unfortunately).  I'm getting an error and it won't allow me to open it.  I don't recall the error right now as the issue is happening at work.  I can repost it once I see it again, but I just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a way to to make that work.  I've read some work-arounds like saving as a .tiff with the layers.  Is that the best way to make this happen.  I can't do much about he CS2 part and I have maximaze compatibility turned on.  I just thought I'd ask if there was a quick fix.  Thanks in advance

Yeah I tried that, no luck.  I must be using a bunch of stuff that wasn't around in CS2.  I've had some issues getting other .psd's into CS2 but I could usually just hit "ok" to all of the errors that popped up and it would still show up.  I think they were mostly related to smart objects.  It's possible those files could have been made from another computer with CS5 though.  That's why I thought I'd be ok, I'd just keep hitting ok when the messages popped up and at least I'd be able to open it still (even if some of the features don't show).  Maybe there's something different about the way CS5 and CC saves their information or something
Maybe I'll try just resaving them from CS5 and see if CS2 will take them.  I guess it's worth a shot, just to see if it works

  • Problem with versioning on iPod, backwards compatibility issue with iTunes

i apologize in advance because i'm sure this has been asked time and time again, but i did attempt several searches.
the search function is very muddled and does not narrow down the results very well at all
    here's the situation.
from all accounts i've heard lots of people having issues with version 7 of iTunes.
i'm a simple kinda guy who definitely believes in the age old phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
    so i've stuck with v6.
i recently got a new laptop along with my PC. so i downloaded and installed the latest iTunes without thinking twice.
i had completely forgotten about my concerns from hear say about v7 issues.
i plugged in my iPod and it proceeded to completely erase all of the media on it and then load all media that was on my laptop in place of it.
"well that's a cool new feature", i thought.
after my initial frustration wore off, i immediately uninstalled v7, deleted the .itl file and installed v6.
everything was all fine and dandy. v6 works perfectly on the laptop with no hangups.
    here comes the issue...
i plug in my iPod to begin rebuilding my media onto it after the completely unauthorized deletion, creditted to iTunes v7.
as it autoplays and iTunes v6 opens i'm prompted with this error:
"The iPod [my ipod] cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 7.0 or later.
Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
i've attempted everything i can think of to completely erase my iPod of any "versioning".
    - i reset it using the "select/menu" button method
    - i reformatted it through XP disk manager
    - i reformatted it through context menu in my computer explorer window
    - i completely just deleted the "iPod control" directory in the iPod explorer window when clicking through the my computer directory
    i'm at a loss.
i cannot figure out a way to get my iPod to function with iTunes v6.
and again, i'm really hoping to avoid going to v7.
    iPod information:
    2nd generation iPod nano 4GB
thank you in advance for any and all information/advice

I am guessing that you used your iPod enough with iTunes v. 7.x to update the firmware to the latest version. That being the case, reformatting your iPod won't "undo" the firmware update, so your only choice now is to update your iTunes software to v. 7.x.
FWIW, iTunes 7 is a vast improvement over previous versions of iTunes. I use it on both Windows and OS X, and without bugs in both environments.

  • Backward compatability issues

I support a telecommunications company. The users I support logon to switches and multiplexers through a web browser, the GUI is controlled by a JRE. The version of JRE required depends on what is installed on the piece of hardware they are working on. Some old Cisco hardware they have to work on requires Java 1.2, more updated Cisco hardware requires a 1.3 version, some Nortel hardware requires a 1.4 version and as of recently they all require 1.5 to access the web site they use to claim time. If you install all of these versions on the same machine only a few will work; for example if you install 1.3 to access Cisco hardware and install 1.4 on the same box to access Nortel, the 1.4 version seems to take over and anything requiring 1.3 no longer loads. None of these users have administrative rights on their machines so each time they require a different version of Java they have to call the helpdesk. Does anyone know of something that will help this issue. The new 1.5 version with JNLP seems to help quite a bit but as soon as you have to include a 1.4 version things go south.

    Hello,
I am not sure that it will sove your issue, but try to install the two patches released last week. One of them solves problems with exe-files:

In the same blog you'll find another patch too.

  • Getting rid of compound path "cut marks" in Illustrator

    Hi,
I have created some icons in Illustrator using compound paths. I ended up having these faint, dark "cut out" lines (please see example). What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to get rid of this?
    Thanks!

No, but this one is having the same issue.

  • Can't release compound path

I drew some simple paths in Photoshop with the pen tool, then exported the paths to Illustrator. All the paths came into illustrator as compound paths, though they look like simple paths in illustrator. Because they are compound paths, I can't join the ends of the paths to the ends of other paths.
Whe I select one of these paths:
Object>Compound Path>Release is greyed out and unavailable.
"Release Compound Shape" in the Pathfinde palette menu is also greyed out and unavailable.
Is there any way to make these paths back into simple paths without redrawing them?
I'm using CS6 versions of both Photoshop and Illustrator.

    Okay, here's the screen shot.

  • Backward Compatibility Question

Our ADS system is running with Basis 7.0 SAPKB70005
Can we develop forms on systems with a lower Basis version e.g. 6.4?
    Are there backward compatibility issues?
    Regards,
    Lavaughn

    Hi Lavaughn
it depends a bit on what you want to do.
If you want to develop the form on the 6.40 box and then render it with the 7.0 Application Server, the answer is No, as the solution always needs to be on the same NW level (i.e. either '04 or 2004s). SAP development always coordinates changes between Designer, ADS, Reader, and the SAP development environment - and there are a few incompatible changes between '04 and 2004s.
If you want to develop and render the forms on the 7.0 box and integrate data from a lower-release backend (e.g. R/3 Enterprise), you can do that for interactive scenarios using RFC connections to transfer the data and/or the PDF form from system to system.
Do not attempt to do this for print forms. The amount of data that may have to be transferred will heavily impact the form generation time.
    Kind regards,

  • Backwards compatibility (export/import)

Currently using an 8.0.x database and want to use export feature
and import into 9i database. Is this possible? Any backwards
compatibility issues that i should know about? Thanks...

you can perform an export using the 8.0.x software and import
    using the 9i software.
There should be no issues with importing a lower version export
dump into a higher version of the database.

  • USB 3.0 to 2.0 backwards compatibility

I recently purchased a GoFlex 3TB drive to use with my MacBook Pro running the latest version of Snow Leopard. The drive is advertised to be USB 3.0/USB 2.0 compatible.
I am running into issues where when plugged in directly to a USB port on my hub it will freeze the Finder on my computer and I have to hardboot the system. This has happened on multiple occasions with a otherwise extremely stable system. At one point I unplugged the power from the External Drive and my system recovered.
Thinking that I was going to use this for a "Time Machine" drive I plugged in directly into the USB port on Time Machine unit and tried to set it up and this time it froze the Time Machine and System Preferences, but not the finder. Again, a reboot was necessary to resolve the issue.
The problem follows where ever I plug it into, into the MAC freezes Finder, into the Time Machine freezes Time machine and System Preferences.
When I first installed it I selected the macintosh.dmg and followed the directions and it formatted as a journaled drive.
I am starting to suspect that there is a backwards compatibility issue with the new USB 3.0 spec and the USB 2.0 drivers that ships from Apple on their systems.
Any confirmation, help or direction on what might be going on would be appreciated. Thank you!

Be aware that if you need special drivers, you probably won't be able to do a full system restore when your internal HD fails or something else awful happens.
The reason is, you don't use OSX to do the restore; you use the Installer utility on your Install disc. It doesn't have that special driver, and there's no way to add it, so if your HD fails, and you boot up from the Install disc, it's probably not going to recognize the TM drive.
You'll have to install OSX first. When your Mac reboots, you also can't use +Setup Assistant+ to transfer your stuff; you'll have to set up a temporary Admin account, install the driver, then use +Migration Assistant.+
And using +Migration Assistant+ instead of +Setup Assistant+ can cause transferred user accounts to lose access to files on other disks, such as your backups.

  • InDesign Backwards Compatibility in CS5 an MAJOR issue

I am a print designer who works in InDesign. I bought CS3 Design Premium in late summer of 2008. Shortly thereafter CS4 came out, but after just having forked out a big chunk of change, I decided against upgrading to CS4 right away. Recently I considered upgrading but then heard CS5 was coming out so I decided to postpone the upgrade and wait for the new software. I've just checked out the trial version of CS5 InDesign and after speaking with Adobe Support have come to the conclusion that I can't upgrade to CS5. Why? BACKWARDS compatibility to CS3. The previously offered export features that supplied a path for backwards compatibility via an .inx file are gone.
I design freelance for a lot of different customers and once the design is complete, I have to deliver the InDesign file along with all associated fonts ad images to my clients. Most of my clients are still on CS3. If I upgrade to CS5 I will instantly not be able to work for 2/3 of my clients, as I will have no means by which to save a file backwards to CS3. I was informed by Adobe support that I would need to buy CS4 and CS5, as I could save my CS5 file in the IDML format and open it in CS4 and then I could save the file from CS4 as an INX file and open that is CS3. ARE THEY INSANE??? First off that requires keeping 3 version of InDesign up and running on my machine all of the time and secondly, why should I have to buy CS4 when I'm paying an additional fee to upgrade to CS5 because I didn't upgrade from CS4? This is so screwed up that it has to be an oversight---please tell me there is a patch in the works!!!
PS- I've never posted to a forum before, so if I have broken any rules of forum etiquette or offended in any way, I offer my apologies now and if I (and the Adobe Support staff I spoke to) have overlooked something, please enlighten me!

    Cynthia Ryan Graphic wrote:
I am all for working with better workflow practices and I understand that saving files backwards is less than ideal but Adobe needs to look at the real world uses of their software as well. I have to work with firms that aren't upgrading now--especially with the economy we are now in--and most of the items I design for them are ads-- one page- nothing too complex--really nothing fancy. I obviously wouldn't save a book or a very complex document backwards in this way, but simple things have translated just fine in the past. In the real world we hit situations like this.
I bought my software 21 months ago and in this time Adobe has expected me to upgrade twice--I haven't even finished expensing  the initial cost of the software on my books yet. Upgrading that often just can't happen in a small firm--it's prohibitively expensive for a one man shop.
So now from what I understand, to do this properly, I am supposed to buy the upgrade and keep both versions running on my machine and track with every client which version of the software I need to be working in. What happens when I have to add an employee? I will have to buy the CS3 version of the software in addition to the CS5 Suite because otherwise we can't work on the same files. I'm finding this frustrating.
Your suggestion of buying CS4 from Amazon is a good one. I will look into that further.
DISCLAIMER: I'm an Adobe stockholder. REALITY: My holdings are probably in the same proportion as the number of bits it takes to store a period character (".") on an Internet server is to the entire Internet's storage capacity. So, while I may have some self-interest here, it's not driving me to encourage you - or even all the participants on this forum - to buy more software than you want to or need to.
If you're simply interested in test-driving a new release, you can do that with the free 30-day trials. If you run out time, you can probably figure out a way to trick out your system to get another 30-day shot.
However, if you use the software commercially - either to train others, or to create new material or revise old material for clients or employers - you need to decide if you can continue to do this with the software versions you own, or if the commercial needs will require you to license new versions.
Regarding "expensing the initial cost of the software on my books" If I understand the US income-tax policies, purchases under a rather modest amount can usually be expensed in the year of purchase. If, because of your accounting method or preference, you're using a longer expensing time period, you might want to reevaluate your approach. If you attribute a portion of the software cost to each project you use it on, and, in this case, in 21 months your work hasn't let you recapture the investment, they you may want to use that information to decide how to pursue more paying for the software, or decline that stream of work and forgo upgrading.
An alternate way to evaluate the software, especially as an employer of users, is to compare the product cost vs. how many more billable hours you and your workers can complete in a given time with it and without it, and, how competitively you can bid projects, due to the product's efficiency.

  • Simple Icon, Difficult Compound Path Issue

    Hey everyone,
Need a little help here. Ive created this very simple icon:
The airplane is a single object as is the runway. The two objects are grouped. There are a total of 9 compound paths that I see. The landing struts have 8 plus the 1 stripe in the middle of the runway. The problem I'm having appears only when I reduce the image down to around an inch. (Image is enlarged for better viewing)
I'm assuming its the compound paths that make this happen but can't be 100% sure. Im completely baffled because Ive never experienced this with any other compound path and this is an extremely simple group of objects!
My work around was to export as a hires png and then place it back in illustrator and trace as a sillohette. It solved the problem but this doesn't make any sense since when it was traced it still made the same compound paths. Right?
Any input would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    c,
John has it. Just to elaborate a bit:
You may select everything and then untick Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform palette, and also untick Align New Objects to Pixel Grid in the flyout options.
You may avoid document types with that as default (RGB for web and the like) or change the default for such documents.

    Hello Creative Cloud Illustrator Community:
    Help Please!
This is with regard to creating a compound path:
I have set some white type on a circle and then created outlines. I then placed the outlined type on a black stroked ring which I then selected "outlined stroke." I then put both "outlined" graphical elements on a separate solid bkg. (all 3 are on the same layer). Lastly, I then selected the top two elements and went to "make" a "compound path" (because I want the type to be the "holes" so I can see through to the background). However, the only effect I get is the white outlined type turning black (the same color as the black ring). What am i doing wrong? I can achieve the desired result with simple boxes but it won't work with a circular type path, a stroked ring and a solid bkg.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank You!

    Thanks for the response Jacob.
Unfortunately, I tried your suggestion with no success. BTW, minus front is now Subtract. Apparently, by clicking option>subtract, it works in the same way as minus front. I tried this to no avail.
    Let me reiterate please.
I have 3 graphic elements-all on the same layer:
    1. Background: Gold circle with a fill and no stroke.
    2. Middle: Black ring (Stroked) inside gold background circle.
    3. Top: White copy set on a circular type path and placed directly on top of middle black ring.
Both the middle black ring and top type path HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO OUTLINES.
LASTLY, I select the Middle and Top, go to Compound Paths and choose "Make" and my white copy turns to black. Wrong!
WHAT I WANT TO HAPPEN: I want the white copy to become HOLES, so the GOLD background shows through.
Any solutions would be very much appreciated!
