Illustrator .eps issues.

I have two issues that I'm hoping for some help solving.
I am operating in the newest version of Illustrator and I'm having issues with my .eps files when they are sent to Roland Versaworks or opened in Flexon programs. My printer is telling me that when he opens my .eps art files in Flexon to print on a smaller machine, there is a "black box" covering the entire artwork like a mask. He is having to work extra to remove this mask before printing our customers order. He is telling me this isnt happening in Roland, but I want to make sure it doesn't happen in the future and if it does what I can do about it.
When I open my .eps files in Illustrator or Corel there is not black mask to speak of. It doesn't show in any of the layers.
Still, is there something I can do to prevent it from showing up in my printers programs? Is there a step I'm missing or a step I can incorporate to check the file and make sure its not there? Or is this a Flexon/Illustrator combatiblity issue for the manufacturers?
Roland Versaworks: my .eps art files sometimes open with bits of artwork missing, or the cutline missing. I have calibrated our cutline to Rolands and also Illustrators specifications but there are still instances when it doesnt come through. Any suggestions on what else I can do to avoid these issues? It slows down my companies production time to go back, re check, re apply cut lines(that are already there) and resave the file....

At times yes, but this is showing up on basic stroke and fill artwork as well, with no dropshadows/transparency effects.

Adobe Support is Aweful: Illustrator Update Issue

Anyone having a problem with Illustrator Up-Dates? After spending about eitht hours with technicians issue is still unresolved. Below are case notes.

Issue is not resolved.
Latest technician was a total waste of time. Had not read previous case notes, had me retry procedures that had failed on previous t
hree attempts to work with technicians.
Wanted me to delete and reinstall entire CS5 Suite with a new user account: said it was a Microsoft registry issue, not an Adobe pro
blem. I lose two days of work, and have to reinstall all plug-ins for the entire suite. Asinine for a problem with Illustrator.
How about some competent help for a change? How about repairing Illustrator registry (if that, indeed, is the problem)?

Thank you Adobe support for more wasted time, non-solutions, and non-call backs.
Spent 40 minutes on hold yesterday, spoke with a technician who was running through the standard diagnostics, and was disconnected a
fter about five minutes.
Spent about 50 minutes with a young woman this morning who was also unable to do anything. She wanted to uninstall and reinstall the
entire suite, which I declined to do.
Another tech called, and an appointment for 2:00 PM was set up. It is about 3:30 PM, and still no call back.
After researching the issue on non-Adobe sites, I was able to get the Toolkit up-date to work. Illustrator will still not up-date (s
ee attached error messages). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same result.

Microsoft was very helpful in resolving this issue. There is also an error in Adobe's Cleaner Tool: Microsoft's Installer CleanUp Utility is no longer recommended for anything other than Office, as it may corrupt Windows 7 files, and is not available from Microsoft.
Situation
Apparently the attempted install of Illustrator patch 15.0.2 corrupted some Illustrator, as well as Windows 7 files.
Solution
The solution was to run a Windows 7 [in my case Professional] "in-place up-grade." This essentially reinstalls Windows while retaining all install and other information. Worked flawlessly.
Second step was to run generall follow Adobe CS 5 Cleaner Tool instructions. Illustrator would not totally uninstall, but the error log indicated that the problem was deleting some empty directories. It appears they were write protected [a change an Adobe Tec had me make], so I manually deleted them. Please see note above about Microsoft's Installer Clean-Up Utility: it is no longer available from Microsoft.
On reinstall there were a number of error messages, which did not appear too important. I ran install a second time, then applied up-dates for the next few hours.
All up-dates were successfully downloaded and installed, and the past two days the suite seems to be working fine.

Photoshop/illustrator transfer issues and error

I've transferred my photoshop and illustrator from my old mac to another by using time machine, and I deregistered my old accounts on my old laptop to use it on my new set-up, but unfortunately I keep receiving 150:30 errors. I've tried scouring the internet for solutions, but I can't find a solution. I can't locate my serial numbers for the products either. I've had them for about four years. Could someone please help me with this problem? It's vital that I have these products for my job.

You need to install Adobe products, transferring them will not work. You should be able to find your serial numbers thru your Adobe account online. If you need help getting them, you need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues.

Can Anyone help with an Illustrator transparency issue?

I created a logo in Illustrator which includes an imported Photoshop psd file with a transparent background. The transparency behaves properly in Illustrator, but as soon as I place it in In Design or open it in photoshop the graphic shows up on a white box/background (the rest of the elements in the logo remain transparent, as they should be). And btw-the greyscale version of this same logo has no transparency issues.

No, it is not. It contains a raster image, so it is not "all vector" regardless of its being assembled in Illustrator.

The EPS file will not handle transparency.
EPS supports "transparency" in 1-bit raster objects. It also supports clipping paths, which is how this particular logo would have been handled in earlier times (assuming one insists on the simple grads being raster).

What kind of file do you save and place in ID - should be an AI - is it?
InD doesn't really import AI content. It only imports PDF content of an .ai file (if any).

Take Scott's earlier advice. Especially given that you are compiling a collection of (presumably) reuseable logo files, this should be re-created as entirely vector content. That mark should take no more than a few minutes to redraw. Simply by including the raster element (which is primary element, by the way), you are obviating the core advantage of vector artwork (resolution independence) to begin with. So if you insist on that element being raster, then the whole thing might as well be, and your workflow is needlessly convoluted.

Illustrator Preview Issues in Creative Cloud

Some Illustrator files (the one I'm trying to use has multiple gradients) don't create a preview when uploaded to Cloud. Is this a known issue?
Also, Cloud doesn't recognize, Illustrator layers as it does with Photoshop and Indesign. Will that feature be added?

Illustrator CC issue with pressure sensitivity and blob brush.

Hello I ran into this issue yesterday and can't seem to find a way to fix it.
When using the blob brush, pressure sensitivity with my wacom intuos 5 works as expected. However if I switch to the regular brush tool and draw with that tool then switch back to the blob brush tool, pressure sensitivity stops working until I open the Blob brush's preferences and change any setting then click OK.
My machine:
Retina Macbook Pro
Core i7 2.3 Ghz
16GB RAM
Nvidia 650M 1GB
OSX 10.9.2
Illustrator 17.1.0
Already tried:
- Deleting Illustrator's preferences
- Reinstalling Wacom Drivers
- Reinstalling Illustrator
Yet the problem persists. Any ideas? Is this a bug?

I was having the same problem. I wanted to use the blob tool and it was set to 2 point from a previous session. Every time I went to use it I got a 5 point round brush with no pressure sensitivity. It drove me crazy for awhile until I finally tried setting the blob brush to something different. After that it was fine, and I could switch back to 2 point and it began to work as expected. It seems like there's a small hiccup somewhere.

Illustrator CC issues, not opening legacy files or fonts?

Using CC for a few weeks and I am not yet convinced of its quality over my faithful CS5. I have an issue with files not opening, they may once when I start Illustrator, but then they do not again. Illustrator doesn't freeze, it allows me to carry on with the file I am working on but I can not open any legacy file?. I have tried opening by double click, by file>open, I have opened a legacy file back in CS5 copied the graphics and attempted to paste them into my CC document and nothing, the only way I can get around this is to shut the program and or machine down and start again?
Also the same with fonts, if I have a file open, and open fonts afterwards, Illustrator has a mind of its own whether it wants to show the fonts or not. Some days its happy to, others it has a bad day and will not show them in the list at all no matter how many times I reload them, only a shut down fixes this?
Is there a preference I am missing to allow legacy files?

There's no problem with opening CC files in CS5, I am finding when CC starts being problematic I am downsaving my CC file (current file I am working on, as I can still use this) to a Legacy CS5 and finishing the job in CS5 just for speed as I can then open my original CS5 files that I need without issue.
It is peculiar, it has just done it again, I can start up Illustrator and it will open a legacy file, but a few hours after use, I try to re-open the same legacy file and nothing, no error, no file opens, nothing, I can still work on the file I am in, but no joy with opening the old file.
There is a clash, or preference inconsistency, I just can't figure out what it is yet, I was hoping for ideas from the good folk out there .......

Adobe illustrator memory issues

I have a customer who is using Adobe Creative suite CS2. She has been using it for a couple of years quite happily but recently we upgraded her to windows vista business.
After a re-install of adobe creative suite illustrator keeps coming up with the following error:
(if you can't see it it says theres not enough RAM)
There is 2GB of RAM in the system and without any other programs open it is using just under 1GB of RAM.
Would it be advisable updating the RAM to maybe 4GB, or is is it a bug in Vista or Illustrator?
Any help would be appreciated.

It's a compatibility issue, but a sporadic one at that. Sometimes legacy apps go looking for specific versions of DLLs that long have been surpassed by newer ones and then they can't find the correct memory address offsets. As to why it happens is unclear and seems to depend on what updates and specific extra components are on the system. If the issue cannot be resolved with compatibility mode, you may try hunting for the Microsoft Visual C redistributable packages (MSVC70 and up) and .NET runtime 1.1. Just download the full standalone installers and run them. if all of the components are already on your system, nothing will happen, if not, some bits and pieces should be installed. This may possibly fix the problems you experience...

Illustrator CS5 issues after upgrading to OS X Yosemite

Hi, I upgraded to OS X Yosemite recently and since then
my Illustrator CS5 has started playing up. A few days ago I noticed it
was taking a long time to save and now it won't let me export files to jpeg
format. It crashes. Please help!

Adobe has a forum. I'd look there to see if others are having issues.
It is entirely possible that CS5 isn't fully compatible with Yosemite. Adobe's preferences is to push/support their subscription Creative Cloud, and making older software work is kinda counter to that. (and honestly I couldn't install CS2 on my windows 8 machine, the minimum compatibility was CS3 for Windows 8, so it's not unknown for Adobe programs to have a limited backwards compatibility)

Quark Xpress, Photoshop & Illustrator - Major Issues

I have recently loaded Leopard and ever since i have, Quark Xpress 7.3.1, Photoshop CS2, and Illustrator CS2. I have had issues with all of these programs closing unexpectedly and the only way to get them to open again is by restarting! this is very frustrating and has happened at least 4 times to me today. Also my fonts will all of the sudden decide to be missing, and it's random, it will choose a font to be missing. This also requires me to restart before it can be fixed.

Check Adobe's website - not sure that CS2 is really supported on Leopard. I know that CS3 does work. At least to the extent that I use it.

Importing Flash Vectors to Illustrator. Issues with Missing Lines. Please Advise.

So I have done many hours of animation in flash over the years. And what I am trying to do is import some of the characters I have created in Flash into Illustrator and convert them to PSD. This is for a print project that I am working on. The reason I want to get the images to photoshop is so I can add some effects and coloring techniques I simply can not do in Illustator or Flash.
Here is the method I am using.
1) Select the vector image in Flash and Export Selection to Adobe FXG.
2) Open FXG in Illustartor
3) Export to PSD
4) Open in Photoshop and Color.
The problem I am having is the line art that was drawn with the pencil tool in Flash simply vanishes when imported to Illustartor. Also a lot of the line art that was draw with the pencil tool is gradient filled or the image I am trying to export may have multiple color Pencil Lines. So just trying to outline the images in AI does not provide the look or effect I want.
Does anyone have a solution to this, or have any tips for me.

FXG is a bust. Never worked right in the first place. The rest would require much more specific details like a sample file perhaps, screenshots, how the characters are animated and whatnot. FL and AI simply use completely different vector engines, so there may be all sorts of issues at play here.

Illustrator saving issues: Previewing off Artboard

This is a somewhat complicated issue to explain so I've attached some images.
The basic gist of my issue is that when I "Save" an alteration of an already existing document, the document will preview things that exist off the artboard, and not even my full artboard. This is happening with increasing frequency and I can't figure out the root of this issue. The first picture I have attached to this post is how the file previews in Illustrator; the second is a screencap from the file open in Illustrator, where you can see the artboard in the center, and the art to the left that is being previewed (I have outlined the artboard in pink). The portion of the document that is being saved in the preview is not consistent either, so sometimes I will get no portion of the artboard visible in the preview. The interesting detail is that if I "Save As" my file, and over right the existing file it saves uncorrupted.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and have a possible solution?

whiteryanc, there has been a few othe post concerning this issue on the adobe forums with no real answer to why this is happening. The issue you have is an issue we have also. It all started once we updated illustrtor to CS6. We even went a step further and updated to illustrator CC to see if that would fix the issue. This did not fix it. There is a work around though. Instead of just saving the file after altering the file do a save as and replace the file. This seems to be working on my end.

CC Illustrator - Saving Issues

I recently worked on 11 seperate illustrator files between 7-10:30PM, each containing seperate identity concepts. I periodically save while I work. I did not work on these 11 at the same time, but across the span of time. I may have had maybe 3 up at one time. Once completed, I would save...THEN save again as a PDF. I had to send these out so I did not preserve illustrator capabilities due to email size restrictions. Before closing any file window, I would just resave to be certain as an AI. My issue starts here...
I went back to the AI files to relook at something. Three of the illustrator files do not have any changes made to them. Time didn't seem to matter as two of the files were created and saved towards the beginning of the work span and the third was created and saved last. When I mean nothing is saved, none of my work - AT ALL! I now have a blank canvas in one document, and two other outdated documents, yet all the PDFs are fine in reflecting the point at which I finished. Is this currently a known issue? Does anyone know how I would go about correcting the failures to save regardless of manually saving? Even the time stamps reflect no changes even though I was actively working on them and saving constantly. I know I'm not crazy!

That seems like a really bad system. So people who don't have printers connected automatically start off with the possibility of more issues?
I created a new file and placed the empty file into it, it came up blank. I created a new file and dragged one of the other files that are outdated and it came up fine, but again outdated. I tried dragging a PDF into it also, and that came in fine. Only like I said before and you mentioned, it doesn't have AI Editibility so it only gives me an option to image trace (which don't come out so well).
I created new files on a different identity later on the evening after my initial issue. Those work perfectly.
Sorry missed your question: I have not updated my creative cloud. I had the version before the newest at the time of working on these files.

MAC to PC Illustrator Font Issues

Hi all,
I am using a PC designing labels for a company. Many of the previous labels were outsourced to designers who used Macs. When I open the Mac files, the fonts don't display correctly or don't display at all. I am trying to decide if it is worth investing in a Mac to be able to access the HUNDREDS of Illustrator files from outsourced designers or if there is some way to get this PC to find similar fonts. I work in an environment where things are constantly changing and I need to be able to quickly update files. As it is now, I must do major formatting every time I open a file from a Mac-based designer. I went so far as to purchase font licenses for many of the fonts but the PC font name doesn't always match the Mac font name or if it does, it isn't the same exact typeface. Long story short, in your opinions... do you think an investment into a Mac is worth it or is there some trick I am missing? Just some info on my background--I am far more experienced in InDesign/Quark on a PC with limited Illustrator use and now everything is based in Illustrator.
Any advice/insight would be helpful.

Are the images in CMYK mode or do they have a color profile

them? Fireworks doesn't understand color profiles and
generally, IF FW
can open a CMYK image, the colors will are altered to RGB.

Exporting from Flash to illustrator FXG issues

Hi there,
I have a series of character designs in Flash built in different symbols, eyes, head, etc. I need to export them to illustrator keeping them vector but when I use the FXG export the file fxg doesn't appear to 'remember' what frame the symbols were referencing and so the image isn't correct...
Any help would be hugley apreciated!

Hi All,
Flash Pro CC 2014 (v14.0.0.110) is now available for download via the Creative Cloud App and Adobe website.
We have added SVG Export feature to Flash Pro with this new release. You will now be able to export out vector content from the selected frame as an SVG image that can be opened directly in a Browser and even imported in Adobe Illustrator.
SVG Export option can be accessed via the Publish Settings as well as via File Menu > Export > Export Image option.
