Illustrator CC Running sluggish.

Hello, I recently brought a new iMac 5k with 4GHz Intel Core i7 Processor, 16GB Memory, Graphics AMD Radeon R9 M290X, 256Gb SSD and Adobe CC.
I am getting some lag issues. By this I mean if I pan around art boards it is quite sluggish when it should be smooth. If I create a new A4 blank document, and move around it I experience the same stuttery issues as I do on bigger document, for example I have a 75mb document (huge I know) but acts just as laggy as an empty document. It's not major like, just not as smooth as you would expect. Especially on a blank document.
I have played around in PS CC and this appears to be fine, managing a 2GB document easily, including applying filters, moving around various elements etc. Which makes me think there is either something wrong with my illustrator or it is poorly optimized?
I've read a few older posts about CC being laggy but couldn't find a more recent one on the new 5k iMacs.
Any help/suggestions would be great.
Matt

  • Illustrator CC Runs Poorly on Fast Windows 8.1 Machine (Laggy Movement etc)

Illustrator CC runs very sluggishly on my Windows 8.1 machine.
    Computer specs:
    i7 3770k
    32GB Ram
    Installed on Samsung EVO SSD
    GTX 780 ACX graphics card
It feels like at the very core of the program it is simply poorly optimized. I can draw a shape as simple as a square and just moving that square has roughly a quarter second delay that Adobe Illustrator CS6 doesn't have. This makes everything about the program feel extremely laggy and sluggish in comparison.
I have both the Tahoma and Verdana fonts installed. I've also tried re-installing the program with no success.
CS6 continues to run flawlessly. Any idea what could be causing this?

    Did you figure this out?
If not, have a look at your cores... see if Illustrator is only using one. I think it's badly "optimised" as I see many different things only using one core and causing delays in OS and Illustrator.

  • System Preferences App running sluggish?

The System Prefs App seems to be running sluggish lately...mainly when accessing the network preferences pane.  I noticed the permissions for this app are different than most other apps (see below)
Could the permissions be causing the sluggish, spinning ball behavior?  Just started about a month ago.

I don't think so. My system prefs permissions are the same. My network prefs pane opened in about a second.
I suppose I'd try trashing the permissions file (com.apple.systempreferences.plist) which is in ~/Library/Preferences and restarting and seeing if that fixes the problem. (You'll have to redo all your system preferences, as they will be reset to default).
~/Library is hidden. If you hold down option look in the Go menu in the Finder it will appear.

  • I am not able to access ANSI character ALT 0165 Symbols font (infinity symbol) in Illustrator in CS (Windows 8.1) but I can access it in Illustrator 10 running on Windows XP. Any way to download the complete symbol character set under symbols to Illustrat

I need to use the infinity symbol in Illustrator but it is not available in Illustrator in CS5 running on Windows 8.1. It is available in Illustrator 10 running on Windows XP. Is there any way to access the INFINITY character under fonts in Illustrator in CS5 (Windows 8.1)?

Thank you for your suggestion. But I do not know how to access UNICODE. How do I download Unicode fonts?
Also I have a problem working copying illustrations from Illustrator launched from CS5. The illustration does not copy correctly into FrameMaker 10 with Windows 8.1. However, the illustration copies correctly if I use Illustrator 10 in my computer with Windows XP. How do I solve this?
When I called Adobe I was just told that they do not support CS5.

  • What can I do to respond to an "Adobe Illustrator cannot run" message?

I have a PC running Windows7 with a virtual machine running in XP Mode.  I loaded my old Adobe Illustrator 9.0 on the XP side.  The installation went smoothly.  When I try to start Illustrator I receive a "Adobe Illustrator cannot run" message.  Criptic to the point of being useless.  I used Windows Explorer to pull up all the Adobe files.  Nothing appears amiss.  Ideas/suggestions will be welcomed.
    Thanks

Well folks I finally got my "can't connect to iTunes" issues fixed. Seems that there was an unauthorized change to my email address and account therefore not allowing mr to connect to iTunes.
Here is how I got it fixed.
    1. Contacted iTunes store support
    2. Followed their instructions and replyed with the following info:
An order number from one of my purchases
Last 4 digits of the c.c. Used for the iTunes store acct
Answer to one of my security questions
And 2 items from this list.
    Birthdate
    Billing address for Acct
    Phone number on acct
It was after all of this that they saw that someone had made an account modification back in February when the issue began. Seems they changed my email address just slightly and that is what kept me from being able to sign in and not a password issue. This was likely due to a phishing email that came out in conjunction with iCloud asking users to change their passwords to a more secure form by adding a capital and number.
To get all of this cleared up it took about 4 days as we emailed back and forth. I also needed a seperate email address they could use to send me info. Once they determined the issues and went to get them fixed by changing the email address associated with the acct and I created a new password I was able to access iTunes with no issues and even my previously thought lost acct balance was there.
    Hope this helps

  • Are there required fonts for Illustrator to run properly?

Are there required fonts for Illustrator to run properly?

Yes, there are. There's a problem related with missing Verdana (search for layers not displaing properly). And maybe others.

  • G5 running sluggish/slow

In the past month or so I've noticed my G5 (Dual 2Ghz PowerMac, 5GB RAM) has been running sluggish. Regular tasks are frequently giving me the spinning beachball and everything is taking longer to launch.
I've repaired permissions multiple times but that hasn't helped.
Diskspace is no where near full (135GB+ available).
    Any ideas?

Since you are backed up, the first thing I'd do is see if disabling some dashboard widgets makes a difference.
If not then try repairing the directory as my FAQ explains:
    http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
If not the directory, then try to see if some third party peripheral is slowing you down.
If not, how old is the computer?

I have been having problems with my atv 3 not transmitting/receiving 5.1 surround. Whether I stream from my computer or watch movies, I am getting no 5.1 audio. The atv won't even show the option for surround. I tried to restore and reset the device but it didn't help.
I haven't had any problems with missing apps or freezing or anything similar to what you are experiencing. This update has many bugs. Other threads have reported even more problems. Hopefully I can go back to the previous update.

  • Illustrator CS4 Running Extremely Slow

We are running Illustrator CS4 (version 14.0.0) on a Mac Pro with OS 10.5.8. When we are working on files with a fair to large amount of linked, not embedded, images, the speed of Illustrator is DRAMATICALLY slower. We get the lovely beach ball with just about every move we make - switching tools, locking/unlocking layers, clicking on an element. The beach ball is there for 3 or more seconds with each move - causing the simplest of tasks to take forever. Document size doesn't seem to matter. It happens on a 350 MB file and on a 60 MB file. It does seem like the files it happens to have a fair amount of linked images placed - some have 10 links. some have up to 30 links. Has anyone run into this problem? I haven't found many complaints online, but can't imagine we are the only ones with this problem. I'm anxiously waiting for CS5 in hopes it will solve this problem. Any suggestions?
One more thing - these files that are slow in CS4, run normal in CS3. I don't notice anything being sluggish with them in CS3,

We are having the same problem. We are running Illustrator CS4 (version 14.0.0) on a Mac Pro Quad core, 6GB ram, with OS 10.5.6
We have two machines that seem to be effected and one that isn't, all are the same spec and setup. But we can't seem to narrow down what the problem is.
One work around we have found is to open the file that is sluggish. Let it load then hide the illustrator, kick the network off. then go back to illustrator. It will ask to re-link the images (which are all stored on the network), just click cancel and it will show the red question marks in the links panel. After that is done it goes back to being speedy. If we need to import another pic, just reconnect and disconnect the network as needed. Not ideal but saves having to wait 30 seconds in between each nudge or move.

  • Why is Illustrator CS4 so ******* sluggish in OSX?

I always used Illustrator on Windows XP but have been forced to work on Illustrator on OSX (Imac dual core 3 Ghz with 4GB of ram OSX 10.5.8)
at work for the last year. I like OSX but Illustrator performance is quite bad compared to what I'm used to on XP. By bad I mean that panning through your document with the hand tool is sluggish and slow (even set to faster updates in the display performance panel). Things get worse when working with images and more complex artwork. To illustrate what I mean is that CS4 on XP feels as fast or even faster than working in 'Outline Mode' on OSX. That's ridiculous.
I think this is a Adobe related issue as other applications are plenty fast on OSX, rendering a PDF or scrolling through webpages for instance.
So why is this exactly? And will this improve when CS5 comes out?

Oh, and if by chance you, too, run Windows 64 Bit and Flash CS4, I would appreciate if you could share any thing you did to your system or installation to make it work better.
Please don't just say, "Well, it works for me, blah blah blah."
    Thanks.

  • CS2 runs Sluggish/screen refreshes quite a bit...

I have a strange problem with Photoshop CS2. It is running real sluggish and non-responsive. Then, with seemingly no warning, it picks up again, until you select a tool, or move an image onto your document. The screen seems to "Refresh" quite a bit too.
I was thinking it might be a graphics card issue, but then I don't experience this with Illustrator, After Effects, or Maya.
I dumped the prefs file, and that didn't work (no surprise there). So, have any of you experienced similar issues?

what does 202 do for you?  I mean I'm at 220.
    RE the software?
What drivers?  You mean graphics drivers?  Different drivers haven't made a difference in any game.  The artifacts appear once I clock to 203.
I don't know if I have the RAM set correctly.  I was posting here to find that out.
By card voltage I assume you mean AGP voltage.  Its at 2.65V.  Vcore is at the lowest setting, 1.3875.  I tried 1.4000 and 1.4150 but neither affected the overclocking ability either way.  Still produced artifacts at 203.
How did you get to 220?  What happened when you went higher than that?
