Illustrator CC text colour prints different to object colour

Hi there
Im having an issue in Illustrator CC where text is printing a different colour to an object. Both are using the same cmyk colour and look identical on screen but when printed the text is much lighter.
If the text is converted to outlines it prints fine. There is no transparency or tint applied. I've tried a few different colours, tried back-saving and converting to pdf, same problem. Will now check our printer settings but in the meantime, has anyone had this problem?

Here it is with the appearance options shown
There is only one lay with the box (which I eyedropped color from) and the text.  In this image I selected both of them and its saying they are both blue (if the text was black than a question mark would be in the pallet instead of the blue)

  • Why do my pattern swatch colours print differently to rest of my artwork

I have some 2 coluor artwork consisting of 2 x pantone colours purple and grey.
Within the artwork is a stripe pattern swatch consisting of the same colours. On screen the colours are fine and I've checked all the colour settings and these are fine too.
Why however when i print the artwork does the pattern print in a different colour???
Please help as I'm going out of my mind with this one.!

I am having exactly the same problem.
The colours of a pattern fill print very differently when it is expanded.
All the colours in the pattern swatch are CMYK. They look identical on screen when the pattern fill is expanded.
When printed, the mustard yellow, the appley-lime green, and the purpley-grey look completely different.
I'm using CS6 Illustrator, FOGRA39. I'm wondering if this is a printer issue maybe?
This is really frustrating and very worrying as I use pattern swatches a lot, and colours need to stay the same as they are approved.
I've found this thread and another one from 2010 with what sounds like the same issue (Pattern Swatch Colours) but neither have been resolved.
Please help if you have any ideas!

Yes it is a postscript printer. I'm sorry, I can't show images as the design is confidential - but if you click on the link above, this person has photos of the same problem.
I could put together a generic pattern swatch in the same colour and take a photo of the print out, if that helps.

  • WiFi printer which can work with one cartridge also at a time (black or color) in a colour printer

All-in-one (OfficeJet or Inkjet) WiFi printer which can work with one cartridge also at a time (black or color) in a colour printer.
Even if colour cartridge is over, w/o replacing I can still print with black cartridge.
    Which printer is suitable.

Since I upgraded to Firefox 19 from 18.0.2, on my Windows XP (SP3) laptop, I, too, can no longer open a new window. File-->New Window does nothing; also can no longer tear off a tab and open it in a new window (it stays where it is). Also, if I right-click on a tab and select Move to New Window, nothing happens. All of these worked fine in FF 18.0.2. All of these work fine with FF 19 on Windows 7. Only an issue on my XP laptop.
After trying to open a new window, and not seeing the new window come up (and yes, I waited a long time), I decided to close my current window, which had multiple tabs open. Instead of just closing, it pops up the message reminding me that I'm about to close all those tabs. If I say close, and then go into the Task Manager, the Firefox application has disappeared (as expected), but the firefox (and plug-in container) processes are still running. So I have to manually kill the Firefox process to get it to quit. it's as if it thinks there is another Window open (the one I tried to open but never appeared). This happens every single time! I've restarted my laptop, and that does not resolve the problem.
Is there a way to downgrade back to v 18.0.2 until this is fixed?

  • Printed colour is different between two elements both created in pages with the same colour

    Hi There,
I have been having some issues getting a text colour to match a logo (imported in pdf format) - While trying to discover what was happening I created a sample colour of (HSB 189 / 89 / 73) in pages and saved it in my colours palette to test.
Now if I create some text (in pages) and a shape (also in pages) and colour them from the same colour sample/swatch and print it - the colours are clearly very different, Does pages do some kind of text colour correcting or weirdness that I cant find? Its hard to believe this is the desired workflow and its very anoying.
PS. I have also tried printing from a pdf and I have the same issues - That said the two colours look identical in pages and the pdf on screen.
I'd be extremely grateful for any help
    NB I have since read
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/9263007#9263007
Which although is helpful and may explain the behavious of the imported logo pdf vs the text it doesn't (I dont think) explain how two elements both created in pages using the same colour (from pages) would be dfferent?

They are both coming out at the exact same colour (CMYK 83, 0, 21, 0) which is correct however they are not the same colours when printed, Im begining to think this is less of a pages thing (as the output is correct) but something is going wrong between pdf/pages and print
Its not the easiest thing to see so you may have to take my word for it - but the two colours are not the same by quite a long way (Theres way more contrast in real life)
I think Im ready to admit defeat on this but thanks a bunch for your help!

  • Colours different on object and inspector

    Hi,
For most colours, there seems to be a subtle difference in the appearance of the fill colour of an object, and the colour for the object shown in the inspector/colour chooser. The object shown on the page has more saturation or brightness than in the floating palettes.
This is immediately noticeable to me on the default green colour for a new object from the toolbar menu (eg. a new circle). In fact, if I click the magnifying glass on the colour palette and click my object, even though they're meant to be the same colour, both the inspector and object change colour slightly, proving that it's not just my eyes. I can repeat this again and again on the object of default green fill until the object is bright green (green starts on 183 of RGB and ends up on 255.)
The problem is the same with text and lines in Pages, but this does not happen in TextEdit. Text copied directly from TextEdit into Pages has a slightly different color.
Does anyone else experience this? Any fixes?
    Thanks

This was brought up in the Keynote forum quite some time ago, compllete with a handy demonstration by Kyn.
I would suggest sending feedback and seeing if it shows up in keynote too. If it doesn't then it was a missed fix in color handling that was not forwarded to the Pages team.

  • Illustrator created pdf prints differently

I created a pdf document in Illustrator and when it prints from Illustrator the text is a beautiful rich black (60,40,40,100) like it's supposed to be. Yet when I opened the pdf from my desktop and print, the text prints out lighter than its back page or other pdfs.
Could this be a compression issue?
Attached are the two pdfs to compare. The Buyz pdf is the one where the front page turns out lighter and the back page retains the rich black. The SmartBargians pdf is the comparison one in which both sides print beautifully.
I've gone in to adjust the CMYK values three times just to double check that they are retaining the 60,40,40,100 and they are.
I'm about ready to bang my head on my keyboard because I've had this issue for days and I thought it already was fixed with the adjust of the cmyk values.
Thanks in advance for your help

I printed the "Buyz" piece, but the other file RIP'd to Postscript File without printing ( not sure why ).  I did notice on the prints I did that the front page was slightly lighter than the back.  Not sure why that happens, but in some rare cases, if you have some type of raster effects and/or transparency applied to elements in the file, then output becomes unpredictable.  Not sure how many layers, if any,we're talking about either ( not that it matters ). Total ink may be having some type of affect on the file, where 240 may be cutting it to the limit.  Typically, when I create a rich black I use 100K + 40C. It's enough to give you a little extra without getting into a color registration and/or total ink issue.  Personally, I like the way the front looks vs. the back ( where the font looks a bit out of sync ).  I've never encountered a problem like yours, wish I could help more.  Sorry.

  • Character Panel isn't updated when selecting different type objects - Illustrator CC 2014.1.0 (october release)

If I have a Type Object selected that is, for example,
set to Helvetica, Bold 32pt size and 40pt leading,
when I select a different Type Object with entirely
different settings, the Character Panel does not refresh
to reflect the currently selected object.
This seems to happen more often than not - maybe 80% of the time.
My current work around is to change a value in the panel, then quickly change it back.
Current setup is a mac pro
    OS X 10.9.5
    Illustrator CC 2014.1.0 (october release)

    Hi Marshal,
Try to reset the preferences to default:
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Illustrator. Your current settings are deleted.
Remove or rename the AIPrefs file (Windows) or Adobe Illustrator Prefs file (Mac OS). New preferences files are created the next time you start Illustrator.note: It is safe to remove the entire Adobe Illustrator Settings folder. This folder contains various preferences that can be regenerated.
    Hope this helps.

  • Export to PDF and print same swatch colour - different variation of colour on printouts

I have multiple documents - they are all set up the same way.
I have 2 or 3 swatches in each of them -namely Rubine Red is giving me an issue - this is the same swatch in every document!

Here are my Colour Settings - the exact same in every document - I have also used the "Convert Profiles" and made sure all are the exact same.

    Export to PDF
When I export to PDF - the export looks great - and the coloured frames all look the exact same - and they give the exact same colour read outs in any profile I look at in the Preflight Manager
The CMYK Reading is 4/99/20/0 in all boxes
    ====================
    The printed result
    ==================
    Same colour settings
Same swatch and same swatch values
    Same PDF export options
    Same swatch values on output
Only 1 file prints the correct colour throughout

    Test File
Can anyone help me with this?
The printer I am using is a XeroxColorQube using PS driver.
    Windows 7
    Adobe InDesign CS5.5
    Fully updated

I've also exported the document to IDML - and I've unzipped that folder. I've read the information for the colour - there's only 1 reference to Rubine Red and that's giving the same percentages as the InDesign file.
I don't know where the 2nd shade of pink is coming from.
But I suspect that it's from the print driver itself.
Also - just occured to me, I lost my PDF settings a while ago, InDesign crashed and the PDF defaults were missing - I dowloaded a copy of a set from someone on these forums through a google search.
But I no longer have PDF x4 export option - where can I retrieve these.
How can I restore the original PDF settings for InDesign?

  • How to get consistent colour prints from different Macs?

    Hello Forum,
we are unable to get consistent colour prints from the various Macs in our office. There is only one printer, and for the sake of this discussion only one PDF file to be printed. The Macs have various OSes, from 10.4.11 up to 10.9.5; most are Minis of one vintage or another.
The printed results *should* IMHO be identical no matter which computer issues the "print" command, but they are far from that. Some computers print with a reddish tint, others with too little saturation or too much brightness (to put it in Photoshop terms).
What exactly must we do to get identical results no matter which computer does the printing?
    Thanks in advance
    John
p.s. May I just say what a ridiculous pain in the neck it is to have to choose from that list of purchasable Apple products aka communities? Some questions, like this one, do not belong in a single community or at least there is no community whose title describes our problem. I am uneasy filing it under "Mac Mini" because there is absolutely no reason to believe that the problem is a misbehaviour of *one* of our Minis. In the old days, when help was geared to users rather than to pushing the sale of further Apple products, there used to be forums with titles like "Printing problems".

Thanks for the suggest, which didn't solve the problem — because it wasn't a Mac problem at all. Acrobat Reader was getting the colours wrong! Setting "Print as image" in the Print dialog extensions solved it.
    Resolved, case closed.

  • Highlight text for Print

I am trying to find a way to be able to highlight text in a document and and then print it with the text highlighted (as you would when reading an article and marking thru important points with a pen highlighter) Also how would I highlight multiple but different text lines so that they all show? I can't seem to find a key that will allow it. (ie. control or option key)
    Thanks for your advice,
    Glen

ApleWorks doesn't provide for any method to directly "highlight text for printing," or for display on a monitor, for that matter. The 'highlighting' you see after dragging across a line or block of text is an indication that the text is Selected, and may now be manipulated, but tat highlighting will not appear on a printed page.
You can "place a colour block behind" the text to create an effect similar to running a hi-liter across the text on a printed page, it's fairly easy, and the result will print.
Show the Tools palette (Window > Show tools, or click the red toolbox at the lower left of the document window).
Use the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle that just covers the text you want to highlight.
Use the Fill formatting button then the color palette to select a highlight colour. Repeat using the formatting button then the color palette to set the line colour to the same value as the fill colour.
Copy the rectangle so that you can re-use it.
Go Arrange > Move to back to place the rectangle behind the (now highlighted) text.
Still in Draw mode (you should have the Arrow mouse pointer—if not, click on the Selection tool {arrow} in the tools palette), Paste another copy of the coloured rectangle, drag it to the next line of text you want to highlight, and adjust the length to cover the text to be highlighted. Move to back as above. Repeat as necessary.
NOTE that these rectangles are not part of the text, but floating objects. If you edit text above the highlighted portion, change fonts or size, or change style (eg. to bold), the text to be highlighted will move, but the rectangles will not. Best to leave this highlighting until you've finished otherwise revising text.
NOTE2: When resizing small rectangles like this, it's easy to change their height when trying to change only their length.
TIP: When you have one the right size for the text size and font you are using, select it, then go Options > Object size... and note the height of the object, reported in the second box in the right column. For subsequent highlight rectangles, after adjusting the length to fit the text to be highlighted, open the Object size dialogue, enter the correct size into the Height box, then press tab to confirm the entry.

    Barry

  • Illustrations greyed-out when printing PDF file from Adobe Reader

    Hello,
From within PageMaker 7 I've made a 52-page PDF document in Distiller (selected job option is for Print) and uploaded it to my website.  It contains many greyscale illustrations (TIFs and JPGs first imported into PageMaker), and text.  I am able to view the PDF file over the net, and can print the illustrations and text on each page with no problem.  I am using an old HP laser printer (LaserJet 5L).  Other users are able to view the same PDF document on the net, and they can see all the illustrations and text on every page.  However, some users who have tested it are reporting that when they try to print out the pages on their own printers, most of the illustrations are greyed-out between pages 3 and 51.  The text is printing correctly on their printers.  The images on the front and back cover are printing, and so is an 11-page comic strip (made up entirely of 11 TIFs, with no additional text).  Can anyone work out why all the other illustrations throughout the document are printing greyed-out on their printers?
    Thanks
    Roger3

I am replying to my own question.
After posting here, I received feedback from a viewer that the PDF file is downloading and printing out pages with no greying-out of the illustrations.  It looks to me as though the problems are arising from other viewers' slow internet connections and/or hardware RAM for printing, especially if trying to print all pages at once, rather than Saving As to hard drive, then printing.
    Thanks,
    Roger3

  • Multiple shapes on a single layer with different line-weights & colour fills

I'm just beginning with photoshop CS6 and I'm struggling with something in a project that should be simple
I need to draw a circle within a circle within a circle within a circle etc etc.
I need to give the circle lines different weights and colours and I need to change the colour of the fills between the lines.
Imagine if you will a diagram of the Earth's cross-section. That's roughly what I'm going for.
I don't want each circle on a different layer though, it would be way too hectic.
I can't figure out how to change the properties of one shape in the layer without changing all the others.
    It's super frustrating.
Can anyone explain how to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

A shape is a vector path that defines the shape. The fill of that shape fills the entire layer and the vector mask asks like a cutter so you only see what is inside that mask. Since a single layer can have only a single color what you ask can not be done.
What you can do, when you are satisifed with the circles is to merge the layers into a single layer, then that layer will consist of only pixels and can then have multiple colors defining it. But do that as your final step, as once it is done, it is more difficult to edit it.
What is better is to group the shape layers to hide them or convert them into a smart object. It will look like a single layer, but at any time in the future including after closing the file, you double click on the thumbnail of that layer and view the individual layers to edit them.
There will come a time when you wish you could easily change a color to stroke thickness, even a year layer. Thats where the shape layers really shine. As they are non-destructive.
