  • Need to reinstall Illustrator CS3 purchased by download in 2007

    I just bought a Wacom Intuos4 drawing tablet to use with Illustrator. I installed the Wacom software and now Illustrator has an error:" The Windows registry was not in the expected state. PLease run the Illustrator installer to correct".  From the forums I understand that I need to uninstall Illustrator, clean up with a third party product and then re-install Illustrator.  I'm not sure how to re-install it as I purchased it directly from Adobe and downloaded it in 2007.  Can someone at Adobe help me?  Thanks!

    See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/846/cpsid_84624.html for step-by-step instructions.

  • FM 8 and SolidWorks drawings

    Hello:
    Graphics are not my strong point and I've been tasked with updating some 2-D drawings for one of my manuals. I've spent an afternoon trying to re-create a rather simple figure without much success and I was wondering whether there is a way for me to be able to edit figures drawn in SolidWorks. I can get drawings from the designer but I'm not sure about which format to request them and what intermediate steps I might need to take. I am using Frame v8.0p277 and SolidWorks v9.0.0.706.
    I'm learning so much from reading these posts and I'm hoping that not only can I find a solution but that someone else benefits, too.
    TIA,
    Kimberly

    Kimberly,
    Assuming that you have access to "real" Solidworks (and not eDrawing viewer) and Adobe Illustrator:
    Arrange/rotate the desired 3D view of the model in SW.
    Create a SW drawing file from the view (there are 2-3 steps to do this which I can't elaborate on right now as I don't have SW on this PC).
    Save the drawing file in DXF format.
    Open the DXF file in Illustrator (right-click the file and do "Open with..." or do "File/Open" within Illustrator)
    Clean up and edit the drawing as necessary (add callouts, etc.).
    Save the Illustrator file as either AI or EPS depending on your publishing environment.
    Import the graphic file into FM.

  • How to create clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator

    I am puzzled to death on how in the world to get clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator, particularly white text. I want my text to turn out exactly like the text at this website: thepainteddoor.org
    If you scroll down to the bottom of that page, notice the titles "Featured Media", "Social Networking", and "Contact Information". They are all .gif images. I have tried to replicate what these images look like for about 3 hours now to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to do this? It just looks like a simple outline or drop shadow, but I can't get it to show up like that. If someone could help me replicate that effect with text (aka make it show up clean as an image), I would graciously give them money through PayPal*.
    * = I will only give cash if it will replicate it exactly (and I mean exactly)..and it won't be too much..I'm a poor college student. :-P
    Thanks in advance!
    Thomas

    You would do it the way I created it:
    Select the Text tool in Photoshop and set the font and parameters as I have listed.  Then enter whatever text you like.  It will be rendered over the top of the lower layers you may have in the document.  Save as an image of the appropriate type and you're there.
    Note that "lower layers you may have in the document" could conceivably be none at all (i.e., you render the text over a transparent document).  You could imagine saving that as a .png with transparency and get light text in an image that could then be put over the top of anything else.  The alpha mixing will see to it that the edges smoothly blend with the background.  I haven't actually tried this (I usually do try my own suggestions) because of lack of time right now.

    Edit:  Markerline and I seem to be on the same crystal-controlled wavelength.

  • Clean up of pdf in illustrator

    Does this script also cleans up unpainted objects and empty text frames?
    Personally, I don't think so because the check of the script in extendscript and illustrator results negative.
    var idoc = app.activeDocument;
    var straypoints = [];
    for (i=0; i<idoc.pathItems.length; i++) {
        var ipath = idoc.pathItems[i];
        if (ipath.pathPoints.length==1)
            straypoints.push(ipath);
    for (j=0; j<idoc.textFrames.length; j++) {
        var itext = idoc.textFrames[j];
        if (itext.textRange.length==0)
            straypoints.push(itext);
    for (k=0; k<straypoints.length; k++)
        straypoints[k].remove();
    I also want to automatically remove all objects who have a white fill (white background) and no stroke.
    Problem is a created pdf-file of an html-file of a table that must be cleaned up. There are a lot of stray points, empty text frames, unpainted objects, white "cells" that are also be painted in the pdf.
    Who can help me further?

    Works fine. Here's a picture of an AI file in outline mode with path items and empty text frames both before and after.
    You might want to include the line #target Illustrator at the start to make sure the ESTK is sending the request to the proper application. As for the white fill only you can use the Select Same fill and stroke from the Select menu to do it.

  • Is there a Illustrator plug in (CS4) for cleaning up/smoothing out paths fast?

    I want to clean up some vector's paths quickly, removing nodes and making the paths smoother. Does anyone know
    of a plug in for cs4 or CS6 that I can purchase or download that will help clean up my vectors faster without manually doing it myself?

    The VectorScribe plugin has a Smart Remove Point function which could be useful, though it still involves manually selecting unnecessary points. It's much more useful than Illustrator's Simplify which almost always distorts the path.

  • I can not find my serial number to upload my illustrator since my computer has been wiped clean

    I am a new office worker and the person before me had Adobe Illustrator and had saved some documents using that. They wiped my computer clean and I when I tried to load the program I realized I do not or can't find the serial numbers. I still have the sleeve the disc was in but there is nothing on that. The box has a series of letters and numbers but the letters won't enter into the screen asking for the serial number.
    Thanks for any help you can give me.

    if the program was registered with adobe and you know the account used, you can check on adobe.com, https://www.adobe.com/account.html
    otherwise, you will need to contact someone that knows where to retrieve that serial number.

  • Illustrator CS4 - Clean up procedure

    Hi
    I've googled and yahooed around but can't really find answers to the following...
    I've made a character logo in illy cs4 and now i want to finish it off and archive it.
    on close inspection there are multiple layers/sub-layers of small vector pieces where i used pathfinder. many don't even have a colour assigned to them. I need to export this for print but im sure there will be problems at the RIP stage.
    can i ask you illy pros a few questions?
    1. what is the best method of cleaning up a file without having to zoom into the max and deleteing TONS of little vector shapes/stray points/empty layers? (i've ran object > path > clean up. but saw TONS of extra shapes, etc...but illy didn't notice up to 70% of them)...is there a way to specify a size for the clean up tool? or some other clean up procedure (as these were leftover pathfinder shavings)
    2. whats the best/fastest way to flatten/outline the character? (his made of shapes but mainly strokes)...as i know strokes are not a good thing for RIPing at print time.
    3. this character is being used on different packaging, etc of varying sizes. should i export the small images of him as a flattened transparent tiff? as the small sizes are going as low as 1.5 to 2 inches on final print. (or is this not a problem as long as the character is coverted to outlines...ie: no strokes)
    4. is there a quick way to remove multiple empty layers?
    5. I have some transparent shapes overlapping others. how do i 'flatten' these so that the colour remains the same?
    6. lastly, how should transparent gradients be treated for printing? (can you tell me which is better; object > expand > "expand gradient to.." mesh OR objects? and why?
    thanks for your help

    Peter,
    You need to show a screenshot of the
    whole graphic so others have a clue as to the magnitude of what you are dealing with here. With that still missing, these would be my comments:
    > 1. what is the best method of cleaning up a file...whats the best/fastest way...is there a quick way....
    Don't take offense at this gentle admonition, but: What do you want, the
    best way, or the
    easy and quick way? They are often at odds.
    Here's why I make that comment: You said, "this character is being used on different packaging, etc of varying sizes." So this is an identity or product graphic to be uses rather extensively. That means it should be constructed as cleanly as possible. How did you end up with "TONS" of extra shapes, etc.?
    A proper final graphic for widespread and versatile use as an identity mark in a marketing campaign should be cleanly constructed. It's one thing to use all the clever but sloppy instant tricks (Pathfinders, autotracing, outlining, offsetting, transparency, 3D Effect...) in a program like AI while developing the conceptual drafts in a project. It's quite another to then properly render the tidy final product.
    If I had drawn a "character" (I'm assuming by this you mean a character in the sense of a cartoon or mascot, not a text glyph) that ended up with "TONS" of unwanted artifacts and that is going to be used as a repeating identity graphic, I would redraw it as cleanly as possible with efficient paths. When you use repeated path operations and expansions of automatic effects to get something to look the way you want for approval, you most likely end up with even the
    essential paths of the artwork containing much more complexity than necessary and desirable, too.
    For example: Suppose I used 3D Effect to quickly render something
    Now, assuming you are going to foo-foo the above advice, and just want to eliminate the deadwood from your existing artwork as-is, a method I often find more practical than trying to work out a bunch of clever "select same" schemes is as follows:
    1. Zoom out just until you have room on your screen for two complete copies of the artwork, not overlapping, with the original artwork at the left edge of the screen.
    2. Select all of the artwork involved. Note its width in the Transform Palette.
    3. Select one "keeper" object in the artwork.
    4. DoubleClick the black pointer. In the Move dialog, enter a rightward movement distance a little more than the noted width of the artwork. Click OK. The object moves.
    5. Select another "keeper" object in the original artwork. Type Ctrl-D (Transform Again). Repeat the click/Ctrl-D on additional objects in the original until the artwork is assembled at the right, and nothing but unwanted junk remains at the left.
    6. Marquee select around the moved artwork. Select>Inverse. Delete.
    > what's the best/fastest way to flatten/outline the character?
    The
    best way would be to carefully redraw it with carefully, accurately drawn paths and intelligently placed anchorpoints. The
    fastest way might be to select the whole thing, run OutlineStokes on it, followed by the Merge Pathfinder. Doing that may clean up most, if not all, of your unwanted deadwood, too. But again, I most likely would not use that as the final for a proper commercial-quality identity graphic final.
    > is there a quick way to remove multiple empty layers?
    1. Select All.
    2. Layer Palette: CtrlClick each Layer that has an object selection marker (the little colored square).
    3. Layer Palette flyout menu: Collect in New Layer.
    4. Select all the Layers, deselect the new one, drag the selected ones to the trash.
    > I have some transparent shapes overlapping others. how do i 'flatten' these so that the colour remains the same?
    Depending on the kind of objects resulting in translucent shapes, I would redraw them as opaque objects that
    look transparent.
    > lastly, how should transparent gradients be treated for printing? (can you tell me which is better; object > expand > "expand gradient to.." mesh OR objects? and why?
    If the final look of the areas overlaid with translucent gradients can't be rendered with simple gradients, rasterization of the whole artwork might be in order, or of just the object with the translucent effect, with the resulting raster contained in a clipping path. But I would avoid rasterization if at all possible, even at the expense of altering the design, given that the artwork is to be handed off for use by others in a resolution-independent fashion.

  • Missing Palettes in illustrator CC after clean install

    I recently had to do a clean install on my mac with Yosemite and had to uninstall CC and then reinstall, ever since I have had problems with the palettes not appearing when selected, has anyone else had this or similar problems?
    I did a bit of research and a number of forums mentioned corrupt preferences?
    Appreciated your help as very frustrating!
    Thank Steve

    Steve,
    You could try to reinstall using the full three step way:
    Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • I am trying to run my registered CS6 Design Standard programs for the first time after install. InDesign runs OK, but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trail mode. How do I activate those two?

    I can't get my registered versions of CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator to run in full mode. I installed CS6 Design Standard online end of June (an upgrade from CS5.5), on my old MacBook Pro. I didn't run the programs then as I was waiting on arrival of new MacBook Pro. I migrated the programs from my old MacBook to the new, and today tried to run those programs for the first time. InDesign work OK (after an initial hiccup) but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trial mode, and won't let me save files. My CS6 Design Standard shows with it's registration in my Adobe Account. All seems in order, but Illustrator and Photoshop won't run in registered mode. Can you please help?

    Demons1 in the future please only migrate your documents and settings.
    Please use the uninstallers to remove your current installation.  They are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once the uninstall is complete you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  You can find more details at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.
    If you need to download a fresh copy of the installation files for Creative Suite 6 you can do so at Download CS6 products.

  • Illustrator CC(2014) does not open or create new file in Window 8.1 Pro

    My illustrator can launch but once I tried to create a new file it would freeze and will not respond anymore.
    I also tried to open existing illustrator files it just create a blank white illustrator window and does not respond afterwards as well.
    I tried to reinstall the illustrator for times to fix to issue but it doesnt work.
    All the other applications (photoshop/indesign...) work perfectly, but obviously there is a bug in illustrator...
    Have any other people experienced similar issue and know how to fix it??

    Did you uninstall then used the Cleaner tool before reinstalling?
    Is a printer connected? Is the driver up to date? Printer turned on?
    Do you have any third party plugins installed?
    A graphic tablet?
    Any other hardware?
    Font management? Which one?
    Have you already tried setting up a new user account (Admin) and launching from that one?

  • Fixed layer in a pdf created by illustrator

    Hi guys,
    I'm an absolute beginner in illustrator and i have perhaps a trivial problem:
    I create a map of a region with different information each on an own layer and additional one layer with the legend, which should be visible all the time. After all I want to save this file as an PDF to make it available for my custumer.
    Now my problem, in this pdf-file it's possible to disable the legend layer and my customer has the possibility to print out my map without my copyright or logo.
    Is there any possibility to fix this layer in the pdf?
    I tried out, that it would be possible if I copy my logo into each layer, but that's just an agreement not the "perfect" solution.
    Thank you for every idea or hint!

    I was so curious and tried it:
    I think the best solution is the background solution with acrobat standard:
    - Save the legend layer in an own file (without all other layers) and then in an own pdf file without creating a layer (remove the check at the save option).
    - save the other layers in a second pdf file with the layer information and without the legend layer (delete it in the ai file before saving it as a pdf)
    and then combine the two pdf files as described there: http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/acrobat/articles/acr8at_background.html
    disadvantage:
    You need an additional programm and two files
    advantage:
    The illustrator file is "clean" and with no double information.
    a big thank you to Jacob Bugge for giving me the idea!

  • Error message when starting Adobe Illustrator CC [Error loading plugins   AppBarControls.aip]

    Hello,
    I get the following error message when I start Adobe Illustrator CC.
    Error loading plugins
    AppBarControls.aip
    Then it gives me the option to continue by clicking okay. When it opens, the Application Bar is just blank.
    I've tried uninstalling, then ran Adobe CC Cleaner, then downloaded and reinstalled.
    Computer details : OS X 10.9.5, 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Help is kindly appreciated!

    I also have had a difficult time with Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 crashing upon launch.  The support staff was great even though we had to work through several sessions.  Below is the email explaining our final session.
    This email is in regards with the issue you had been facing with Illustrator CC 2014.
    While going through the installer logs, we found that there was an issue with the installation & the program installer had been denied access to several critical files & folders during installation.
    This was the main reason for Illustrator crash as several critical components had not been installed properly.
    We tried installing the program in a new user account & that worked.
    Though the program has been installed properly now & is working in your old account, I will still strongly recommend you to get your computer user account repaired with a Windows 7 operating system diskette.
    This is required so that you do not run into more trouble later while working with the Adobe Applications or even while installing other programs.
    Avanish Divya was the final support person that successfully resolved my problems.

  • Can't open the application "Adobe Illustrator CS6.app" because it is not supported...

    UPDATE - Ahhh haaaa!  If I log in with the guest account Illustrator works fine! WTF!? Oh well, at least I have a direction to be working towards, thanks for all the suggestions and assistance Adobe Community!
    That was sarcasm by the way...
    UPDATE - Just installed the latest Illustrator update from Adobe - still not loading. Tried reseting the iMac's PRAM, no luck.
    UPDATE - I've just reinstalled the whole CS6 Suite, and the only things that have changed are that I now have a little white no entry sign over Illustrator (it still won't load) and I also have 1.5GB of application updates to do
    I don't have any direct evidence but I'm guessing this is a Mavericks incompatibility judging by the other issues people are having with Illustrator. Any suggestions are welcome!
    I've been using CS6 on my iMac for the past year (3.2GHz Intel Core i5, 32GB ram).  Everything running fine, no problems.
    Then I get the popup from Apple saying to upgrade to Mavericks, so I did. After updating my Java version, for the next two weeks everything carried on running fine. Until just now.
    I finished working on an Illustrator file, saved it and then exited, only to remember I needed to make one more small change. So I clicked on the AI icon and got this error message;
    'You can’t open the application “Adobe Illustrator CS6.app” because it is not supported on this type of Mac.' Eh???
    I tried doing a reboot thinking that maybe something had just gone wonkey and needed resetting. Still no luck. So I reinstalled Java again. Nope. Then I tried every other CS6 app and they all ran fine.
    Does anyone know what could cause Illustrator CS6 to be working fine for weeks and then suddenly become an unsupported app? These things always happen with you're right up against a deadline! I NEED ILLUSTRATOR WORKING NOW! HEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPP!
    James

    I had the same issue and resolved it
    I first remove the prefs folder and the plist files for illustrator in ~/Libary
    next I logged off,
    then I uninstalled illustrator using the adobe uninstaller(http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html)
    Next I reinstall illstrator
    after that it worked for me.
