Illustrator crashes when Photoshop open

This is on a new, clean OS install, Vista 64. This, in fact, is the 2nd full clean OS install I have done because of this problem.
Plenty of RAM, 4 GB. Illy and PS were rock solid on this same machine, same configuration before the OS reinstall. Now cannot work with PS open at all, since for like 10 years now I have jumped in between programs just fine, you can imagine I am hugely frustrated. Submitted so many crash reports at this point it isn't funny.
Tried different scratch discs, I haven't even loaded many fonts yet. I am at a loss...HELP!

Hi, Tim.
It is indeed the latest Wacom drivers, as you've already found out. I managed to reproduce the problem in Windows 7 64-bit after updating the Wacom drivers to the October release.
Curiously, Illustrator only crashes when you interact with its window using the tablet, not when you use a standard mouse, so it was fairly easy for me to trace the problem to its cause.
Hopefully Wacom will address this issue (I'll send them an email. I suggest you do the same), though their update dates suggest we'll be waiting months; just use the older drivers in the mean time.
Thanks.

  • CS4 - Illustrator crashing when Photoshop open

    Running CS4 Design Premium Suite on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
    All programs are working fine on their own.  However, Illustrator almost always will crash when I have Photoshop open as well and go to do anything in AI - paste, edit text, save, etc.  I've tried running both the 32-bit and the 64-bit of PS and both crash AI.  I've tried running AI in compatibility mode, no luck.  I've tried making my default printer the Acrobat driver, from my HP officejet (this was a weird fix back in CS3) and no luck.  And crash = immediate closing of problem, not freezing up.
    I see under Windows compatibility list here - http://tinyurl.com/yjdju8g - that Illustrator CS4 on Win 7 64-bit is the ONLY app from the suite that isn't yet shown as compatible, but "info coming soon."
    Is anyone else experiencing this problem and know anything to try for a fix?  Driving me crazy having to close PS anytime I want to do something in AI.
    Thanks in advance, hoping I'm not alone here!

  • My illustrator crash when I open files

    I have a Illustrator 15.0.2.
    And I can open the Illustrator itself, but always crash my Illustrator when I tried to open files, which I have created before.
    It’s happen since last week.
    My Mac system is version 10.9

    alineko,
    It seems that something is seriously wrong.  You may try the following (you have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder Other options (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Photoshop crashing when I open jpeg or create new

    I recently upgraded my Capture One software to v.4 (which included the installation of microsoft .net framework. Now Photoshop crashes when I open a jpeg file or create a new.
    I did notice that when it opens the Initializing Type Tool progress bar doesn't show up and I just noticed on the blue start up window something called "Building TWAIN" - I had read in a previous thread about a TWAIN plug in attaching itself to photoshop. Could that be my problem?
    How do I find that file?

    It's in the plug-in folder!
    Since you failed to mention either your OS or PS versions I can't be more specific.

    I had the identical situation. Windows 7 64 bit and Suitcase Fusion 2. The 32 bit Photoshop would launch without error but the 64 bit would crash if I clicked on the type tool or the type tool was the last tool that had been selected previously.

    It was in fact a conflict with Suitcase Fusion 2 or a corrupt font. What I did to resolve it was delete all the fonts from Suitcase using the following method.
    #Deleting Fonts from a Library
    Removing a font from one library does not remove it from all libraries. If you have the same font in another library, it will remain until removed.
    To delete fonts from a library:
    Launch Suitcase Fusion and select a library.
    Select the fonts, families, or sets you want to delete.
    Choose Edit > Delete Font(s), or press Delete.
    When the alert asks you to confirm the deletion, click Remove.
    I then used Font Doctor (included with Suitcase) to examine my master font library, located on my harddrive, to ensure there were no corrupt fonts.
    I changed the preference in Suitcase to add the fonts leaving them in place. I am not certain that this has any impact on the outcome but I am old school and like to manage my fonts from the harddrive.
    Finally, I added 1 set at a time to Suitcase, activated it, opened 64 bit Photoshop and selected the type tool. If the program did not crash, I repeated this step until all sets were added.
    I ran into the exact same problem while opening Adobe Photoshop CS4 64-bit on my Windows7 machine.
    I presumed Extensis Suitcase Fusion 2 were the culprit. Alas, removing the fonts from Suitcase did not solve my problem.
    Instead, i proceeded to this folder:
    1. C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings
    2. Deleted the file Adobe Photoshop X64 CS4 Prefs.psp
    3. Re-opened Photoshop CS4 64-bit and success. Problem solved.
    Ignore the above. This only solved opening photoshop. The application still crashes when I open the text tool.

    My CS6 keeps crashing when I open printer settings, and the printer setting dialog window has changed

    Possibly corrupt preferences.
    Hold down Ctrl-alt-shift keys and start Photoshop. A dialog offering to delete the settings should appear. Answer "Yes".
    cmd-alt-shift if that's a Mac.

  • Illustrator crashes when I try to open it

    Illustrator crashes when I try to open it.

    I've been experiencing this issue too. I run CC on OS 10.6.8 with Extensis Fusion 4. I discovered Fusion 4 is not compatible with CC and have since upgraded to Fusion 5. Illustrator was still crashing, but I found in the forums that the Verdana font had to be activated in the System folder. I tried to install it there, but couldn't figure out how to do that, so I just activated it in the Font Library. After that, Illustrator opened.
    You can find out more about this by doing a search for "Illustrator CC crash at launch" in the forum sections.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    One of the bug reports linked to your crashes says the HTTPS Everywhere extension could be a contributing factor. Would you try disabling it for 48 hours and see whether that makes any difference?
    You can do that on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions.
    Some of these crashes are related to the "Just in Time" (JIT) JavaScript compiler(s). You could try disabling some of those features to see whether that helps. Alternately, you could run Firefox in its Safe Mode for a period of time since that disables them automatically (but in that case, extensions also are disabled).
    ''To disable individual preferences:''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''javas''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the following preferences to switch them to "false":
    * javascript.options.baselinejit.chrome (Firefox UI)
    * javascript.options.baselinejit.content (page content)
    * javascript.options.ion.content (page content)
    There might be other relevant items but we're a little out of my depth here.
    ''If you prefer to test using Firefox's Safe Mode:''
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
    Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled ''(Flash and other plugins still run)''
    In the small dialog that should appear after Firefox exits, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)

  • Adobe Bridge crashes when i open a Lacie external hard rive. Started when i uploaded Yosemite?

    Adobe Bridge crashes when i open a Lacie external hard rive. Started when i uploaded Yosemite?

    Finder crashes occur both on my MacBook Pro (4,1) and MacBook Air (2,1). There is very little in common between the hardware of the two systems except the Santa Rosa processor. One has HDD and the other SSD. One has 6GB in DDR2 memory in two dimms and one 2GB DDR3 soldered. One has an 8600M and one a 9400. One starts a bunch of apps at login and one starts nothing. And so on. Since it happens on different kinds of systems, it's definitely not a hardware problem with certain specific hardware. And I'm pretty sure I saw a report from someone with a MacPro.
    I've looked at a lot of finder crash logs. A number of them seem to happen when something (memory or an object) is being freed and an error occurs. This causes an abort and the finder is killed and restarts. Not exactly a "crash". More like controlled flight into the ground. The other cases are probably not catching the error and getting seg faults, so those actually are crashes. Unfortunately, the place this happens seems to be different every time but usually related to finder or AppKit.
    I suspect a memory corruption bug somewhere. I've pushed my system by opening and closing
    folders, scrolling up and down, and opening and closing subfolders, and once the problem happens, it is usually reproducible for a few minutes (or a few repeats of the action that caused the crash).
    Then it will often "magically" start working or a slight variation of behavior, e.g., opening a folder directly vs. using a finder window sidebar alias (or vice-versa) will work.

    Hi Grace,
    Please let me know what OS are you using?
    Does Acrobat crash when you open any particular pdf or any pdf?
    What version of Acrobat are you using? Have you updated it to the latest patch.
    Was it working fine for you before?
    Please check the performance after disabling any antivirus or anti-malware software you might have and check.

  • InDesign CS5.5 keeps crashing when I open a particular document

    InDesign CS5.5 keeps crashing when I open a particular document. This suddenly started happening a few hours ago, and other files are unaffected. I downloaded a backup from last week and that was fine, but I need to get this latest version working again. I've cleared out the Recovery folder, deleted Preferences, and even reinstalled InDesign - all to no avail.
    I'm running Windows 8.
    Any help gratefully received!

    Even after emptying the recovery folder?
    It's either a damaged install or a bad font or some other conflict. Do the font trouble-shooter first, then move to checking for a conflict.
    To check for a conflict, go to the start button and in the Search field Type msconfig to bring up the configuration utility. Open it, go to the Services tab and click the box to Hide All Microsoft Services. You can uncheck just about anything that's left (for diagnostic purposes) except FLEXnet Licensing Services and a service starting with ##ID_String... which are part of the Adobe licensing sytem and need to be active for Adobe product to run.
    Now switch to the Startup tab, and uncheck everything except your mouse driver and the Adobe Service Manager for this version.
    Reboot. Ignore the warning about startup in diagnostic mode for the moment and Launch ID and see if it works. If it does, go back msconfig and add back startup programs in groups, rebooting each time and repeat the test until you get a failure. If all the startup programs work, repeat with the services tab. If nothing causes a problem I have no idea what's going on.
    On the other hand, if ID fails again straight off with all that stuff disabled, the installtion is corrupt. Run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall while still in diagnostic mode, then run msconfig one last time to restore normal startup.

    That won't do. What I mean is you have to navigate to the file and make it active in pastebin and then copy the highlighted line like this
    and paste that into your reply.
