Illustrator cs 5.1 can't save

I just installed illustrator into my new pc. It keep prompt unknown error has occurred when i hit the save button.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Most liklely you have a permission problem on your user home directory, which is what AI wants to save to by default, if no other directory was ever picked before... Check that. Otehr than that do the usual - trash the prefs, reset workspaces etc. and try again.

  • Can't save illustrator documents

iMac 3.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.9.4
Whenever I try and save a document just recently, I get this message
"Can't save the illustration. You do not have enough access privileges. ID: -5000"
    HELP

Then you have an iMac Intel, not a PPC.    Now, since you haven't installed a security update, and you are sure you haven't the only reason the documents may not save is that the installation was not good.   Be sure first your data is backed up.  Try to run the installer for Office inside the Installer folder, and to be doubly certain, download the latest Office v.X patch.  If it still doesn't work, you may want to try an Office alternative such as NeoOffice, OpenOffice, Google Docs, or Zoho Writer.

  • Illustrator Can't Save Illustration

I am using Illustrator 10 and I get a message that says "Can't save illustration" sometimes. This does not happen all the time. I can save the file as an EPS file when I can't save it as an illustrator file. Today I got another message after trying to click save when the can't save illustration message appeared. This message said that "You are saving this document in Adobe Illustrator 1.0/1.1 format. Saving this document in an older format may disable some editing features when the document is read back in. I was trying to save it in Illustrator 10 as an Illustrator 10 file. The only versions of Illustrator that have been on my computer are Illustrator 9,10 and CS. I did try uninstalling everything and just installing 10, but the problem still persists. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Diane

    Diane,
The issue may have a number of causes:
If it is corrupted preferences, you may may try to
Move the folder. The strangeness of Illy versions may indicate something like that.
It may also be something about fonts, in which case removing type should change it, or that the artwork extends outside the workspace.
Can you save to PDF, keeping Illustrator editing capabilities?

  • Error -54. Can't save the illustration. (very annoying)

I get the following error multiple times a day:
Can’t save the illustration. The file may be read only, or the file is in use by another application, or you do not have the required permissions. Please save the document with a different name, or in a different folder or directory. -54
Sometimes I will work on a file for an hour before this erorr will randomly show up, but when it does I can no longer save the file unless I Save As or Save As Copy. This is frustrating. Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? I have been unable to isolate a single action that might be causing this.
This is completely new for me. I have never ran into this error before. I'm running Windows 7 and saving locally to an internal hard drive with no other users. I am running Illustrator as an "administrator."
    Thanks!

    Hi Mike,
Thank you for your reply. I am editing an .AI file and it is not open in any other program. This error is occuring on very file I work with. Sometimes the error will go away within a minute or two, and will allow me to save. Other tims it does not and the only way to save is to mkae a copy.
Thank you for your advice. I did as you suggested and found that "Administrators" was already incldued in that list. When I tried to add Local Administrators, the system did not recognize it and wouldn't allow it.
    Unfortunately, this issue persists.

  • Can't save illustration

After I saved my file once, then I noticed the disclaimer of - can't save illustration in Adobe Illustrator when saving it again. What seems to be the problem about this?

Can you please provide more exact detail, as this could be a number of things, and your post could be interpreted in a number of different ways as to exactly when the message is coming up. Also what version and platform are you using.
After you save once, the save command is greyed out and you should not be able to save again. If you have trouble saving try resetting your prefs, doing any dot update to your version, and temporartily removing any nonstandard plug ins.

Illustrator keeps saying "Can't save illustration" and this assignment is due tomorrow - I'm worried

I ended up on the phone with Adobe support last evening.  They told me due to the theft of subscriber / customer information from Adobe I needd  to reset my password and reboot my computer.  I ended up loosing the data in the clipboard however resetting my password and rebooting solved the problem.  Rebuilding my work always seems to go smoother the second time through so I finised my homework none the less.  As for equipment, I use a Sony Vaio SVS15127PXB iCore 7 Laptop and a Dell 23" Touchscreen Monitor.

  • Illustrator cc 2014 can't save files

    Hi!
I Have a lot of problems with the Illustrator CC 2014. And it freaks me out. I have no idea how to reach Adobe. I've tried another Adobe forum but haven't heard anything.. I would appreciate some sort of help. Or if someone knows where to post the question?
    1) First of all can't save files… I wish this could be the number one feature in a design app but apparently not..
I got   "unknown error " and all work spent is gone forever. This happens a lot.
    2) also lagging problems. when moving graphics and zooming in illustrator. it is SO stressful.
I have Two computers, with the same problems.
    Imac 27 " mid 2011
Processor 3,4 ghz intel core i7
    16 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
AMD Redeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
    Osx X lion 10.7.5
    Imac 27" Retina 5k late 2014
    3,5 ghz intel core i5
    32 GB 1600 mhz DDr3
    AMD Radeon R9
    OsX Yosemite 10.10.1

    Nils Petter,
If no brighter suggestion comes up, you may try the list, see below.
Did you install fully on both computers (after upgrading the OS if relevant)?
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Can't Save Illustration: ID: -5000

Hi. We've upgraded to Illustrator CC recently and when trying to re-save an .eps file to our server we get the following message: "Can't save the illustration. You do not have enough access privileges. ID: -5000." This occurs even though my administartor has granted me full access and privileges, and only happens to Illustrator EPS files. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

So I was having the same problem and my son gave me this heads up: I was saving that particular document Illustrator CC 2014 to the Macintosh disk top level. I got that same awful message...not enough access privileges...and when I dragged a copy of that file to Documents, desktop or any folder really, it made a copy there and I could modify, save etc., without a problem. DON'T save your document "naked" to the top hierarchy. I then deleted the original offending document and used a copy without problems.
Yay, one problem solved. Thanks Buddy.

  • Illustrator CS4 - "Can't save illustration." Error

While working on a website mockup I ran into a rather worrisome error - "Can't save illustration."
I can export as .png, .jpg but cannot "Save" or "Save As" regardless of the file type.
The particular document/file contains 1 graphic made in Photoshop and a few downloaded vectors, but removing those particular items does not seem to help.
I read that the error can be caused by fonts so I changed all fonts to Arial(standard system font), and even tried changing type to outlines.. again, nothing helped.
I've also tried copy/pasting everything to a new document to no avail.
All content is on single layer, if it matters.
My system(osx 10.8.5) is running on little available memory, but even removing what I would assume to be the more taxing files doesn't help - the "Can't save illustration." error persists. Needless to say, I'm very worried.
Any thoughts/ideas on how to remedy this problem?

Tried printing to PostScript file (did not see specifically PDF printer), and received an error stating there was not enough memory, or object too complex. I tried reducing the object and artboard to 1/4 it's original size, problem persists.

  • Illustrator CS2 Can't Save EPS Files

I'm running Illustrator CS2 on a PC with Windows XP, and while I can save Illustrator files in AI and PDF formats with no problems, and export files also without problem, when I try to save an EPS file it brings up an alert box that says "Can't save the illustration". For obvious reasons this message is not helpful in determining the problem or going about a solution. I would greatly appreciate any help as this is a problem at my workplace and I have some time sensitive projects I need to finish. Thanks in advance.

Most likely some color separation or transparency flattening thing. Could also be the order of your groups/ shapes. Just hard to tell. For testing, I would save a PDF and do a preflight check in Acrobat or other such tool. This usually reveals any problematic stuff...

  • Try to save .ai file as EPS it says "Can't save the illustration. Can't print the illu

    Windows 8. Adobe Illustrator CS6
I create an illustration and saved it as an .ai file.  Now that I'm ready, I want to save it as an EPS file, but a window pops up saying "Can't save the illustration. Can't print the illustration." I tried saving it under older formats, doesn't work.  Help!

I don't think it is a Win8 issue per se. I export to EPS from both CS5.1 and CS6 on Windows 8 64-bit. It may well be a user account issue or the CS6 installation itself.
Try creating a new user account on the Win 8 computer and try it. Only takes a few minutes with the reboot.

  • Can't save in Illustrator CS2

    Hi Group,
I posted on the 25th Oct:-
"Have updated to CS2, everything fine except in Illustrator.
When saving work in the "Save as" or "Save a copy" I get "an unknown error
    has occurred"
Even if I open work made prior to the upgrade from CS and then amend it, I
get the same "an unknown error has occurred", when I try to save it
I can save in other formats without problem, but I can't save my work in the
Illustrator format to return to later.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled without success.
Please has anyone else come across this, or can anybody advise a solution to
    this problem?
Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.
    David "
Since then I have checked the Adobe forum for Illustrator and there appears
to be considerable traffic on this apparent "BUG" in illustrator, it also
seems to be hitting CS as well as CS2.
I find it amazing that Adobe can release software with problems such as
this. How can their credibility withstand issuing software that can't even
save in its own natural format.
It would appear that this bug was evident way back in March, yet here we are
still suffering in November, more that 8 months and still no word from
    Adobe.
Any self respecting company would have pulled the offending software from
the shelves until they had a solution, yet Adobe seems not to have even
    responded to the problem.
I'm sure there must be thousands of us out here that paid for this defective Adobe software and received a load of junk for their money.
If you feel as strongly as I do about it, how about a mass mailing to the
Adobe forums and let them know how you feel. They might eventually get the
    message.
    David

    Shane,
Might I suggest some additional questions?
Does your file contain text? If so, does the problem occur with files that don't contain text?
What other Adobe applications and versions do you have installed?
What version(s) of Illustrator were you using before you installed your current version?
Did you install a tryout version of Illustrator before you installed the regular version?
What version of Windows are you on? What service packs have you installed?
Are you an administrator of your machine?
Are you using any font management utilities? If so, which ones and what version?
And whatever instructions you usually give for finding out about relevant Adobe common files. (I don't know what those instructions are.)
The only common pattern I have noticed in the forum posts is that the saving difficulties seem to be related to text, and that the only reliable solution is to manually remove all Adobe software including the Common Files and the registry entries from the machine and reinstall all the Adobe applications. This "solution" is daunting and undoubtably overkill; most likely there are just one or two PDF-related conflicting files and/or registry entries that must be removed, but there is insufficient data to identify which ones they are. Simply uninstalling and reinstalling CS or CS2 does not work.
(For more than a month ever since I upgraded to Microsoft Office 2004 as part of Adobe's Exchange migration I have had the same kind of problem with Microsoft Entourage, that it will not access my Exchange account. Nobody else here at Adobe is having this problem, and it is almost certainly is due to the fact that I had previously been using a very early version of Microsoft Office X, one that was released concurrently with OS X itself, and had not updated it for many years. The installer for Office 2004 apparently left some incompatible common framework on my machine, which it is not prepared to correctly detect and remove or update because nobody at Microsoft had such a stale environment.)

  • Can't save the illustration.  The file may be read only, or the file is in use by another applicatio

Getting error "Can't save the illustration.  The file may be read only, or the file is in use by another application."  The file is not read only and is not in use by another application.

The same thing may happen in Windows Explorer, specifically if it is a very big file (physical size), so preparing the preview may take a lot of time.
In that case it is used by "another application", that is: Explorer.
By the way, which version of Illustrator are you using, Tetons?

  • Can't save illustration. Can't print illustration. HELP!!!

About a month ago in CS4 I randomly got the message "Can't save illustration. Can't print illustration." I had no changes to software or hardware. After searching to no avail, we decided we would upgrade to CS5 (however CS4 is still on the computer). Now with a new install of CS5, using Illustrator CS5 I'm getting the same error message. Even when there are no fonts present in the file and it is only a basic square the error message still pops up and Illustrator will not save anything to an EPS file.
The ONLY answer I've seen offered from Adobe on this problem is "outline the text", well that's not the problem because as I've said I've tried saving a file with just a simple path and it won't save to EPS.
I really need to save a file as an EPS and send it out to a vendor asap. Does anyone at Adobe have an answer to this problem?!
    I'm using:
    CS5 Designer Premium
    Windows 2007 Professional, 64bit
    Quadro FX 2800M
    Dell Precision M6500
    Thank you,
    Jen

I am having the same problem in Illustrator CS5. Saving as .ai without PDF editable doesn't correct the problem. In the file there is outlined text (no fonts) with a gradient added. It file originated as an Illustrator document. I have been able to export as TIFF, etc. I'm getting the same cannot-save-or-print message.
There are no fonts in the file. When I tried to convert this RGB file to CMYK the listing for Convert To CMYK ( Edit/Edit Colors/Convert To CMYK) is grayed out. The 2 colors in the file originated as PMS but have been converted to process, CMYK in the Swatch Options dialog menu. I really need the file as an Illustrator-editable EPS other wise I can convert the TIFF to EPS in Photoshop.
Anyone have any idea about what's going on here or below?
Also,When I successfully save as a PDF the file looks fine reopened in Illustrator
but when it is opened in Acrobat 9 Pro, the gradient is modified unacceptably:
I betting that both problems are related.
