Illustrator CS opens part way then crashes
A coworker is using Illustrator CS on a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p. When she tries to open Illustrator from the Start menu, Windows Explorer, or by double-clicking any Illustrator file, it crashes. It gets through the splash screen and even briefly displays a blank Illustrator window with the palettes, but then in a blink it's gone.
When we tried to reset her preferences with the CTRL+SHIFT+ALT while opening it, we just got a general Windows Properties window telling us about the Application - it wouldn't reset. I manually navigated to the preference files and deleted them before trying again - it recreated two of the files and promptly crashed again. We've reinstalled the application twice - no good. Any idea what could be going on here?
About the only other thing to do is take the drives out again, set them side by side and see if there is a difference in the height of the tray, height of the mounting screw holes, etc...
Could just be a bad drive. I just installed a pair of 117D's, had no issues. Don't know if they changed a height or mounting point on the 118D. They may wind up screwing a lot of users up! I'm sure there is some sort of spec they have to follow for stuff like that however.

Bottom door only opens part way
Just installed Pioneer DVR 118LBK in bottom slot (2nd drive). Drive works OK but door only opens part way, thus blocking the tray from coming out. You can hear the tray trying to open. If hold door down, after opened part way, then tray will open OK, after telling it to close and then open again (Option:Eject keys). Removed the optical drive carrier and can move door down with ease. Does not appear to be hanging. Can't see any interference. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

i rented a movie, it downloaded part way and now i cant redownload it. ive logged out and logged in and restarted everything. i downloaded it to my ipod and i cant find it on my ipad or computer.
If you can't find it using the Search feature on the devices, contact iTunes and request a redownload.

Skype opens, signs in then crashes
Hi Skype signs in and then crashes, for a brief second it shows the home page as something like "we cant connect to teh home page right now" I have tried numerous solutions such as making sure no virtual cam software is installed, rebooting, rienstalling, trying old versions etc. The problem happened suddenly and I dont remember making any changes to my computer. I have included a Dxdiagnostic file to help.
Do you have Citrix Receiver installed? If you do, uninstall it and see if the problem goes away.

Safari, iTunes & Skype Opens But Hangs Then Crashes Without Notification.
When I click Safari, iTunes or Skype on the dock of my MacBook, it opens, very slowly. But when I click on anything in-app, be it a bookmark, a song or a contact name, the spinning beachball appears. It spins for a minute or so and then the application quits by itself. Both Safari and iTunes quit without showing a crash report or the "unexpectedly crashed" dialogue, although Skype did show up with one.
Infact, most of the applications installed in my MacBook opens very slowly, much slower than before.
This problem started when I opened iTunes about a week and a half ago. When I clicked on a song to play it, then I opened another application (Safari), the song stopped and the spinning beachball appeared. Then more problems followed after that. I tried removing all the songs in my iTunes library and then installing them back again, all 31 GB of songs. It didn't work.

This could be the case. Mac OS X 10 likes to have 10-15GB free to use as virtual memory and to store information temporarily while RAM is busy doing other things.

The following procedure thoroughly gets rid of all the files used by the junk filter, so that Mail creates them anew. Note that, since you're using Mac OS X 10.3.9, it would have been more appropriate to post this in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum. I've written the procedure in a way that can be applied to both Panther and Tiger, in order to avoid confusing users running different versions of Mac OS X.
1. Quit Mail if it's running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
3. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn't constitute junk, and is what allows the junk filter to learn. Clicking the Reset button in Preferences > Junk Mail also deletes LSMMap2. The file was called just LSMMap in early versions of Mail, delete that as well if you see it.
4. Locate DefaultCounts and move it to the Trash. This file keeps statistics about the number of messages that have been marked as junk, either automatically by the junk filter or manually by the user.
5. Locate MessageRules.plist and/or MessageSorting.plist and move it to the Desktop. This is where Mail stores all the rules, including those used by the junk filter. The former is used by Mail 2.x, the latter by Mail 1.x. There is probably also a MessageRules.plist.backup and/or MessageSorting.plist.backup file there; move it to the Desktop too.
6. Look for the account folders. The name of each account folder starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Open each of the account folders, locate the Junk.mbox or Junk.imapmbox folder within it, and move it to the Trash if present.
7. Go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Locate any Junk.mbox mailboxes there (their name may include the account name in parenthesis), and move them to the Trash.
Note: Messages in Junk mailboxes with an .mbox suffix are stored locally and will be lost forever as a result of doing steps 6 and 7. If there is a chance that you have legit messages there that you want to preserve, either move the messages to another mailbox in Mail first, or move the Junk.mbox to the Desktop (to be imported back later) instead of to the Trash. Junk mailboxes with an .imapmbox suffix aren't a concern because they are stored on the server and Mail will rebuild them automatically.
8. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
9. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
10. Go online again if you went offline in step 8.
If the above solves the problem and you don't have any rules you'd like to preserve or recreating them is not a daunting task, just trash the rules files that were moved to the Desktop and be done with it.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there. -
I am having problems with a BT Yahoo account where the home page opens but it will not let me open e-mail. When you click on mail it takes you to an upgrade page where there is a button for you to continue without upgrading. When you click on that it freezes. To compound this problem I cannot access the upgrade ststem on the Mac itself as it tells me there is an error. I am stuck on 10.3.9 as I purchased a 10.4 upgrade disk (official) ages ago but every time I ran it the computer crashed so I gave up on it. I still require classic on this machine on the odd occassion hence why I am stuck in the past. My iMac runs on 10.6.8 and the mail is accessable on that with no problem. HELP!!
Start up from that Mac OS X 10.4 disc you have. Insert disc in optical drive and start up with the C key held down. On the first Installer screen, from the menu bar, under Utilities, select to run Disk Utility.
In Disk Utility, select your startup volume (usually "Macintosh HD") in the sidebar and go to the First Aid tab. Run Verify Disk. If it reports a problem, that may be the reason for your long-term difficulties. You hard drive volume has data corruption.
You can try Repair Disk in Disk Utility. However, it would be a very good idea to have a backup of the data on that disk, in case the attempt to repair makes the problem worse. -

That probably means there was a problem saving/reading to the cookies files.
Try moving /Users/YourUsername/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist onto your Desktop and then relaunching Safari.
If that works it means the file is corrupt and you can delete it. -
Has anyone had problems downloading itunes 10.1 with the generation 6 nano? I have
Windows Vista on my computer. Was able to install version 8.1 but nano needs newest version. Help anyone???The solution Lijoesat posted above worked for me!
First I found the private/var/folders/ (and then lots of gibberish folders) and singled out two garageband files and deleted them. This did not work.
I then deleted everything which may or may not be a good thing, I am an idiot, I have no idea if these are extremely important files or not!
I tried to empty the trash bin after but many files was locked and Garageband would still not install.
I did a restart of the computer, emptied the bin successfully and tried to install Garageband again and it worked fine!
The inserted picture show some of the folder structure, I deleted everything after private/var/folders/ -
PSE 8 Editor opens and then crashes...with report
I'm running PSE8 with Windows Vista SP2. The organizer opens fine, but the editor opens briefly and then crashes with the report crash screen appearing. I've been though cpsid_51562 from top to bottom with no success. Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this porblem?

It seems that you file has become corrupted.
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way.

Just installed FCE 4. While loading my audio plugins (I have quite a few as I am a music producer/mixer) it spends 52 minutes loading audio filters, then crashes without ever opening.
I run (not at the same time) Pro Tools 7.4 and have a long list of plugins all of which are legal, so I am confused as to what is going on.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
ChrisWow. What a choice to make. Is there a place where I can find out which ones? It seemed to me based on watching the "force quit" screen that it stops running with one of my "Amplitube" plugs. I think it's the Jimi Hendrix one, but don't remember which one for sure. Even though it says in the "force quit" screen that FCE has stopped working, the program still says it is loading more audio filters and continued to cycle through them all for the 52 minutes I timed before giving me the dialogue box that it crashed.
While loading these plugs, it also did give me a dialogue box for certain plugs that are part of one of my Waves bundles.
Is there a way to bypass this in preferences or by moving a file without uninstalling my audio plugins? It is beginning to seem like I may have wasted my money on FCE as I am more invested in my audio setup for mixing than FCE. Very lousy of them to not make it more clear of these types of conflicts in advance. I have not read this anywhere, or perhaps I missed something in specifications for the product.
