Illustrator CS stalling halfway through save as pdf process?

I'm running 17.0.2 on a Macbook Pro and I trying to create a pdf (any type of) from my artwork that is 8.5*11 and only 2 MB.  Everything goes smoothly till half way through the pdf creation process then the progress bar just sits there?  Any thoughts?  I can create pdf's from other artwork that are even larger files no problem?

That would indicate you are using an effect or feature as an appearance that cannot be expanded or flattened to retain appearance. you would then have to do so manually before saving or even re-create e.g. a specific transdparency-based effect manually with opaque colors...

  • Download stalls halfway through won't restore after

Trying to install the latest version of software for 4th Gen IPOD touch, and it stalls halfway through.  Now will not restore the IPOD or install the software.

ok....after a couple hours of posting this i did eventually get an error messege. Why it didn't come up the other 10 times i tried to restore my phone im not sure.
Anyhow in troubleshooting the error messege it said something about possibly going to another computer with a current version of itunes on it and trying the process from there.
I did that and it worked. Now i am just trying to recover all the applications that i had downloaded as they are important in what i do IRL but at least i have a working phone again in which to call tech support if i need to.

  • Illustrator CS3 can't print/save as PDF

I installed CS3 and the error message:
"The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer Dialog are not supported"
Does this mean that its not picking up on the Adobe Acrobat/Distiller 8?
How would I activate this? Help!!
Same thing with InDesign CS3, can't print/save as PDF.
    (this is on a mac)

It may be looking for your RIP ppd, as well as Acrobat 8. Acrobat should have installed all the necessary files, but you might take a look into that. I don't think Distiller is part of the Save-As procedure. You might take a look into "Add-A-Printer" OSX option and select Acrobat 8 there ( although it should have loaded during the install ). Another option is re-install your printer's software and any RIP software ( if available ). Before you do, get whatever updates you can from the manufacturer. It could also mean, after you've done the previous suggestions, you correct permissions on your HD using Apple's Disk Utility. Leave the machine ON overnight so that the Apple Utilities can clean house while you're sleeping.

  • IOS 5.1 Stalls halfway through process

    iPad I
    iTunes 10.6
    iOS 5.1
I had a developer release of iOS 5.1 installed on an iPad I.  Yesterday, the message said I had to re-initialize the box with the public release of iOS 5.1.  So I connected the iPad to iTunes, hit the update button.  Downloads and unpacks the iPad1,1_5.1_9B176_Restore.  Before it does anything a message box comes up and says that the downloaded file is corrupt, check network connections, try again.  Did all that.  Same result.
Downloaded iPad1,1_5.1_9B176_Restore outside of iTunes.  Held down Option key, pointed it to the iPad1,1_5.1_9B176_Restore on my desktop.  Process proceeded normally, but hangs with "Restoring Software" in the iTunes window, and the status bar only about 1/4 way across.  Same on iPad.  Black screen, Apple, and status bar hanging at about the 1/5 position...
Can anyone suggest the next step to get this box up and running, I need to use it this weekend.
    Thanks,
    Hank

When in recovery mode, and connected to iTunes, iTunes goes to get the ipsw file and downloads it normally, but then when it tries to install it on the iPad the following message appears:
"The Software for the iPad was corrupted during download. Check network connections and then try again.  Make sure your network connections are active".
Updated an iPad II and no problem, just can't get this iPad I out of the brick mode for some reason.......
Working the Dev Community too, but no answer there......

  • Illustrator CC freezes when attempting to save in pdf

My illustrator won't let me save in pdf, it allows me to print in pdf but the option window for saving in pdf doesn't appear and the program freezes, last week it was working fine. I appreciate your help regarding this issue. I already tried deleting the settings folder and i dont work with multiple monitorss so i coudn't have misplaced de window. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it didn't help.

    Xavier,
In a case like this (maybe always), you should run the Cleaner tool between uninstalling and reinstalling.

  • Save as PDF results in blank image

I have some Illustrator files that, when I save as PDFs, the resulting file is blank.  Other files have segments missing; some are just fine.   What am I doing wrong?

I didn't use any spot colors.  All there is are line and arc segments.  When saving the PDF I tried all different combinations of parameters.  I did AI because that's what the first shop we talked to wanted.  I'd hate to have to start all over again...
Anyway, I think there must be some difference between segments, since from the same AI file some of them are OK in the PDF and some aren't.  Can you think of anything it could be in that arena?
    I really appreciate your help!

  • Acrobat stops functioning halfway through PDF creation

I have to convert a very large WORD document (a book, 680 pages including illustrations, tables, index etc.) to PDF. Let me begin by explaining that I've already done this in the past, using Acrobat Professional 5 and Office 2000 Professional; it took ages to create the PDF file, but I was able to do it. At that stage I actually had Acrobat 6, but since it blocked halfway through PDF creation, I went back to Acrobat 5 and managed to create my PDF file.
I've recently had to revise the document in question, but I now have Office 2007, Acrobat Professional 8.1.2, and a new laptop (Acer Aspire 5105, AMD Turion 64x2, 2.0 GHz, 160GB HDD). I tried converting it to pDF yesterday, but once again found that the program blocked halfway through (while creating Tags; it gets up to 60%, and then just stops functioning). I thought this might have something to do with the sceensaver starting up, or else the automatic saving of the WORD document, but I don't think this is the case.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be, and how o solve it?
    Mark

It should convert exactly as long as you have done the editing with the Adobe PDF printer selected. This is a WORD issue. The ability to do the conversion was my concern and tags are likely the issue for such a large document, particularly if you have a lot of graphics. Keep in mind that to create the PDF, a PS file is first created -- that is a format that is not very small in terms of storage and could be huge. Your TEMP folder is typically limited by windows and may need to be emptied to hold this file.
Optimizing the graphics up front is also good. Using Mike's suggestion to find the problem graphic would be useful, but is hard to do with PDF Maker (I don't think you can select the pages with PDF Maker). Printing to the Adobe PDF printer will check the layout and also the ability to do the conversion. If the latter works, it is then a matter of determining what you need in PDF Maker.
If you do not need the markup (or wish to add later), then you can save a lot of space by simply printing to the Adobe PDF printer. With PDF Maker, you likely need to go back and review the defaults.

  • Use Artboards disabled when trying to save as PDF in Illustrator CS4

Hi, I'm relatively knew to Illustrator coming from Photoshop and I've been struggling with this problem for days now. I've searched everywhere but can't seem the find the answer.
I'm trying to save my document to send to a client as a mock-up. When I try to save as PDF the tick box for "Use Artboards" is disabled, so when I save it saves the whole canvas instead of only what is on the artboard. When I try to export  I can tick the tick box but the document still saves the whole canvas with everything that is "hanging off" the artboard too.  The artboard is the exact size of the document.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Many Thanks V

When saving as pdf "Use Artboards" is always on and dimmed so you cannot turn it off but it is valid only if you have more than one artboard and this will give you the range option to type which artboards will be saved as different pages in the pdf.  This has nothing to do with saving things off the artboard (clip to artboard). If you save as pdf with Preserve Illustrator Editing Capability checked, everything will be saved anyway and noting will be clipped or trimmed if you open the pdf file in Illustrator. If you save with this option off, depending on the version the content outside the artboard will be hidden by using a clipping mask. However, in both cases opening the file in Acrobat will not display content outside the artboards.
edit: you can use "Clip to Artboard" option if you save to a raster image by choosing Save for Web and devices.

  • Use Artboards disabled when trying to save as PDF in Illustrator CC

Use Artboards disabled when trying to save as PDF in Illustrator CC

Then there's no reason to "Use Artboards". If you had multiple artboards in the file, then you could choose among them for the output but with a single artboard, only one will be output.

  • I have a 2 x spot colour file in Illustrator CC and need to save it as a PDF for printing in spot colour....

I have a 2 x spot colour file in Illustrator CC and need to save it as a PDF for printing in spot colour, which option do I choose in the 'save as' menu?
and how do I check it?
The overprint panel is open and I can turn off the cmyk ( there are no separations for the cmyk anyway)
Have looked at the tutorials which tell me to print as PDF7 but that utility is disabled and has been for ages.
it is a simple need but can find no simple information so think I must be missing something!
    Thanks in advance!

No magic required. You simply save it as PDF-X from AI. If the spot colors are based on correct swatches and tagged accordingly, they will appear as separate inks/ plates in the PDF, which you can verify in the ink manager in Acrobat. That's pretty much all there is to it and the print facility should handle this file correctly.

  • Is there a way to save a PDF document in Illustrator that cannot be altered?

I need to save a PDF file and send it to my customer, but I want to be sure they can't use the file and forget to pay for it.

Put a watermark on it. Set it to read only. set to not retain Illustrator editable capabilites.
Rasterize the image send it as an image with a watermark or as a jpeg mark.

  • Illustrator CS4 "save as PDF" Glitch

I am using adobe illustrator CS4, on mac snow lepord OS X 10.6.5
Everytime i have a AI file or any type of file and want to use the "save as" option, when i select PDF illustrator freezes completely. I have to force quit and restart to resume work.
My work around has been to save as an AI file, open that file in adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and "save as" PDF thru that program. That works everytime. But the "save as" PDF option in illustrator freezes everytime i use it.
    Anyone else have this problem?

I have a MacBook 2.2Ghz 4GB RAM, runs clean with a 640GB HD, with more than half free space. But anyways...
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Trashing the illustrator prefrences completely solved the problem. Thanks Again!!

  • Illustrator hangs or crashes when I try to save as PDF

I am using Illustrator to creates designs for a Flex app. My document has a lot of symbols, rasterized images and layers (it's about 8.1 MB).
Illustrator has stopped doing two things that I need it to do:
    1) It just hangs (infinite beachball on OS X) when I try to Save As an "Acrobat Viewable" AI file.
    2) It also hangs (or crashes on my PC) when I try to save as PDF, regardless of the options I choose.
I can Save or Save As as long as I don't include Acrobat support.
    Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Started eliminating layers, one by one, and trying a PDF export.
It hung and hung and hung until I had deleted about 10 first level layers... then it hung for a bit and boom! It exported.
I went into the original doc and deleted the last layer I had removed from the test doc and it hung as usual.
My conclusion? No bad objects - just too many layers for Illustrator to handle in a timely manner. I've officially taxed the program, which was totally crashing it on my Windows machine.
Why so many layers? Since I am skinning a Flex app by exporting a .swf skin file from Illustrator, I have all of the app layouts in one .ai file. This consists of 46 first level layers, and hundreds of secondary and tertiary layers. It also includes a truckload of embedded graphics sprinkled throughout for layout purposes. Plus symbols.
It's just too much for Illustrator - a program not really designed for this workflow - to handle.
I don't want to make separate files for each site section as that'd require me to port the symbols back and forth all the time when I make a simple change, like a button style adjustment.
Any other advice on managing this better is appreciated, but nothing jumps out as an easy and scalable solution.
Thanks for the help, especially jean.
