Illustrator CS2 crashes
I moved Illustrator CS2 oveer to my new WIN 7 machine with 8 GB of RAM. It has been evidently successfully installed and activated. However it gives an eror message on stratup "The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available". This appears when I have no other applications running. There is 8 GM of RAM on the machine. I have set it to run as an administrator, and clicked on the XP compatibility mode. neither of these changes made any difference. What should I do next? Is this my lack of knowledge about WIN 7 or a legacy app problem?
The 8 gigs memory means nothing to a 32 bit app, more or less.
Looking at the Windows 7 compatibility web site, I would say no, CS2 Illy is not compatible.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software& p=Adobe%20CS2&v=Adobe&uid=&l=en&pf=0&pi=3&s=Adobe%20illustrator%20cs2&os=32-bit
I do know of a person using Win7 Professional that got it to run in a virtual XP Pro service pack 3 environment. And others might have other experience.
Take care, Mike

Illustrator CS2 Crashes - Have removed all fonts - still crashing on open
Greetings,
I use Illustrator occasionally and cannot afford to buy al new right now. Plus I am afraid it might not solve the problem if old stuff is still on my computer.
I guess I could reinstall everything but please see below to see what I have done, perhaps I am missing something.
I am on an iMac with OS X 10.6.6
Illustrator stalls when reading fonts on open.
I downloaded mutliple fonts recently (no not the Zebra one) not realizing it could crash my Illustrator. I also downloaded a few brushes for photoshop and patterns. I work on a Mac and even used my timeline to restore to before the date in question.
Have read as many forums posts as I can, tried multiple ideas:
Removed all fonts in user/library/fonts and macintosh/library/fonts
Have disabled half the fonts, all the fonts, have deleted the ones I know I downloaded the other day when this happened.
Deleted original Illustrstor and reinstalled it. (have not tried deleting all of CS 2 yet)
Removed adobe plist files.
Removed Work Flow file
used my back up files to exaclty match font lists before the crash.
Photoshop is working fine. Thank you for any and all help.
Sheree

You may try either/both:
1) Uninstall, use the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall;
http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
2) Move the folder (which removes the preferences), and/or Other options, see especially items 5 - 11. -
Illustrator CS2 crashes at launch about the time fonts load
I can not get illustrator CS2 to launch. Watching the splash screen/loader screen - illustrator seems to crash when loading the fonts. It isnt one font inparticular.
I have reinstalled the application and still cant get it to run. It's grayed out because you need to change the
owner.
For this you'll need the Admin password for your
computer.
Click on the little padlock and change the owner to
your account. The group can be Admin.
From here, set "Other" to read & Write.
Apply to all enclosed items.
Before anyone trys to yell saying, "That's a huge
application security risk" we are trying to figure
this out without demolishing what the user has so
far. If this is successful, we can always go back and
tighten things back up.
Not working. I am thinking my font issue is not resolved. It is still quitting at the loading of fonts. I did get one error saying there was an error loading plug ins.- I have checked all my other applications and they are working- Quark, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat..
I am not on a network- this is a stand alone computer.
When I ran verify disk an error came up the said (in red) invaild file name.. -
Illustrator CS2 crashes when Type Tool used
Can anyone help please?
I'm running CS2 on Win XP Pro
When I click on a document to enter text the program hangs and then crashes.
I have also lost the font preview on the toolbar.
I've tried deleting the Preferences folder and have removed all fonts except Win System fonts (and reinstalled them). I have reinstalled the whole of CS2 but still have the same issue.Hi all,
I am having trouble with Illustrator CS2 as well. I have it as part of Creative Suite 2 on Windows XP.
When I use the type tool, the cursor blinks as expected but the app hangs as soon as I type a letter.
I have deleted the files suggested above and reinstalled Illustrator (twice now) but it still happens. I did not uninstall and reinstall the whole suite, just the Illustrator element.
Am at a loss as I really need to use this app today.
Can anyone please help!
Thanks

Illustrator CS2: Crash on Start-up
I am running (or, trying to run!) Illustrator CS2 on an XP-Professional OS. It used to run fine. But now, whenever I try to start it, I get a "Runtime Error" during initilization, and it won't go any farther.
Any tips on what I can do? Thanks! Thanks, Ben. That path doesn't exist on my system, however.
There is no "\Application Data" folder in that location. The only folders I have in "C:\Documents and Settings\<my name>\" are: "\Desktop"; "\Favorites"; "\Files"; "\Start Menu"; "\Templates"; "\Toolbars (custom)"; and, "\WINDOWS". In fact, I did a search for a folder named "\Application Data", and did not find one anywhere on my system.
There is an "\Adobe" folder in "C:\Program Files", but there are not "\Application Data" or "\Illustrator CS2 Settings" folders anywhere in there, either.
Any other ideas where I might find the problem files to be deleted? Or is the fact that I don't have the "\Application Data" folder you mentioned, itself an indication of a problem?

Illustrator CS2 intermittent crashes
I've just upgraded to a macbook pro and my illustrator CS2 crahes a lot. Especially when I use a certain function (pathfinder tools). Here is what I tried:
- deleting the preference files
- creating a test user
- reinstalling Tiger and CS2 software
All of them still makes illustrator crash.
Any suggestions? Thank you!Since Ilustrator is not an Apple product, you may want to post your question on the Adobe discussion forums:

Illustrator CS3 crashes under Mac OS X 10.5.5
Since some days I encountered crashes everytime I want to save or print a file.
I didn't installed the last days any Plug In or program that could affect Illustrator.
I tried to reset any preference file in any directory. - It didn't works.
I tried to install the fix for "Adobe Creative Suite 3 products crash when you save, open, or place a file, after installing the Version Cue CS3 3.1.0 update (Mac OS X v10.4.x - 10.5)" - It didn't works.
I tried to uninstall the whole Creative Suite end then run the CS3Clean Script by methods 1, 2 and 3 several times.
After that I reinstalled CS3. Now Illustrator crashes everytime I want to create a new file.
I also used the Technote "Troubleshoot system errors or freezes in Illustrator (CS2, CS3 on Mac OS X)"
Now I don't know anymore how to fix this error.
I depend on illustrator for work. It's very important.
Could somebody please help me?Hmmmm!
I would think that some font database is corrupt but where?
I don't know if you are willing to do this but I do it sometimes myself, you can do an archival reinstall of your system, Mac OS, and then update that fresh system.
You might have to re-input some serial numbers and you can save your keychains and e-mail and internet savings as well as your applications.
Perhaps someone else has a thought or do a search here for Illustrator crashes at saving files.
BTW do you have an older version of entourage or other versions of Microsoft products if so update those application, also I think Quick en has a problem that manifest itself this way. Just having those application on the system will cause these types of problems but the updaters eliminate the problem.
Just a thought. -
Photoshop CS2 crashing after installing new Epson printer
I just installed a new Epson Workforce 323 all-in-one printer, and its working fine. yay!
But now PS CS2 crashes on opening.
Just Photoshop - everything else is fine - Illustrator, GoLive, InDesign, Safari, Mail, etc.
I have a MacPro running OSX 10.4.11
I have other Epson things - 2 printers (C88 and 2200) and a scanner (1240U), and they've never been a problem.
The C88 printer died (I jammed paper in it, then had to rip it out, which messed up the print heads and all - otherwise it still 'worked', it was just all wonky), which is why I replaced it with this new Workforce 323.
I was on the phone with Epson support and they had no clue about the PS issue.
I had some guy online on "Just Ask" walk me through uninstalling drivers, etc. - also no help in the end.
Apple didn't know either.
So here I am.
Is this a known issue with CS2 and Epson? Do I need to upgrade CS2? Is there a patch or something?
Any help at all would be SO appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance,
PaulaThanks - A tech guy just left the house, and sure enough, there were some Twain driver issues. I have more than one epson device, and after deleting stuff, then downloading and installing new ones, photoshop is working. PHEW.
My system pref folder was all corrupted too - very weird. Not sure what that was all about, but that's fixed too.
I appreciate your suggestions!

The Application Adobe Illustrator CS2 quit unexpectedly
Hi, I have a room of networked Mac's (G4) OS 10.4.6 and we have had all twenty machines running CS2 and everything working fine.
Now that the machines haven't been used for a while I can only get 7 of the machines to work on CS2.
I get this error message when opening a new or saved document in illustrator " the application Adobe Illustrator CS2 quit unexpectly".
Version of Illustrator is 12.0.1 Any Ideas?Well we are at 10.4.11 right now and 10.4.6 if I recall correctly was a nasty version. I'm running CS2 on 10.4.11 with no constant crashing. You always have the one off goofy crash every once in a while.

CS2 Crashes instead of opening. Any Help, please?
I have Adobe Illustrator CS2 and every time I try to get it to open, it crashes / does not open. By this I mean that I click on it and the start up screen appears. But when it comes time for the program to launch it does not. I do not get any error messages. It just does not open, and it appears as the program did before I clicked on it.
I also have Adobe InDesign CS2 and Adobe Photoshop CS2 both are still working fine. I tried calling Adobe customer support already. However, since my version of Illustrator is old they no longer offer customer service on it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem and to get Illustrator to open? Any experience with Illustrator CS2 and MBP?
Hi Everyone!
I read a lot about the performance of Photoshop CS2 with Rosetta, but I would like to know how the Illustrator CS2 works with the new MacBook Pro.
Thanks for your comments!
GusI work in prepress at a commercial printer. I have been testing out my MBP 1.8GHz with all CS1 and CS2 apps as well as Quark Xpress 6.5. I also only have 1GB of ram at the moment (second 1GB will arrive today). Anyway all the apps run slower than on my G5 Dual 1.8GHz. That may be due to the slower hard drive speed and lower amount of ram. Most apps take a little longer to launch, but once up and running perform just fine. Acrobat 6 and ID CS2 take the longest to launch. I haven't had any crashes or kernal panics with any of the apps. Quark also works well. Still a bit slow, but very fuctional once up and running. Also Citrix for Mac works as does ApogeeX client 1.27. Overall I have had a better experience with this machine than DC 2.0 GHZ G5. I had kernal panics from the beginning the MBP has had no problems so far. If you need to use a MBP fro serious design or prepress upgrade as much as possible. ie 7200RPM drive and 2GB of ram.

Illustrator CS2 Memory Allocation Issue
I have a client who uses illustrator cs2 and whenever anyone uses illustrator to open enough files to cause illustrator.exe to consume 750mb of ram "through task manager" it says "An unknown error has occured"
Now i have tested this on around 6 different computers all with varying specs everyone with at least 2gb of ram and all core2duo or better and the problem is consistant across the board, i have searched through almost every google search possible relating to this issue with no avail, the issue does not persist in photoshop cs2 and you cannot directly allocate more ram to illustrator, i have also made changes to the page file making it up to 3 times as big as max memory. It seems to be some limitation of the memory that can be used by illustrator. Could anyone who has experienced such a problem or has illustrator and can try opening enough files to reach a peak of around 750mb mem use see if they experience the same issue.
The file sizes they are opening are only around 5mb but once opened consume around 300mb of mem. At this stage they dont want to upgrade to cs4 until there is some proof that this is indeed a limitation of cs2.
Any help would be much appreciated.
CheersOk, Just because i have spent so much time researching this and it seems to be a recurring reported issue with abode users. I will attempt to summarise my findings and the resolution we used.
Firstly i would like to say that adobe has the worst call centre i have ever encountered with a 4 hour hold to speak to a SALES person before hanging up this occured between 12pm and 4pm aest on thursday 27/08/2009, I would never recommend calling adobe if your time is worth anything to you, because it is certainly worth nothing to adobe. *breath* I guess that can do this because they are the only feasable graphic solution available in their market segment, seems like microsoft of the graphic design world. Anyway, enough rant.
What i found was that adobe did not support working over a network share and went about fixing this issue a number of years ago, their solution which is more of a work around was to create version cue, So anyone who encounters constantly corrupt files while operating over a network must deploy and use version cue, the current supported version cs4 has numerous issues specifically with the check in and checkout procedure, the only way you can prevent data lose in the event of a windows crash (obviously a common occurance) is to checkin in your data regularly as saving will only keep a copy if adobe drive remains open, this results in numerous versions and kinda makes saving redundant as saving is only temporarily keeps your work for the session.
CS4 is much more stable and i have not encountered any issues with limitations of the ammount of virtual memory assigned i have had around 30 open at one time and no issues, overall a much better and more stable product that cs2, too bad they couldnt implement a better version control system, i am also very iffy about moving this data to another server.
Thanks to all who contributed and the assistance recieved by this community, way more helpful than adobe technical support. -
Illustrator CS2 shuts down on open
I believe this is a legitimate Leopard question, please feel free to direct me to the right forum.
Every time I load Illustrator CS2 it shuts down (crashes) on open. I read some other forum comments on the same subject and tried to check my disk drive and verify my fonts. That seemed to fix the problem for one session then when I tried to use it again this morning, it started all over again. I've been using Illustrator on my system for years with no problem. Then, all of a sudden....
I am using a PowerMac G5 duel processor (the last generation of Motorola chips). Please of RAM and hardrive space.
HELP!!!!According to what I'm seeing CS2 isn't officially supported under Leopard, and Adobe acknowledges that it will be buggy and they have no plans to fix those bugs.
Other links have mentioned a well-documented bug in Illustrator CS2 that was fixed with the CS3 release.
Here's a CS2 thread about the (lack of) support:

My only suggestion here is to reinstall the software and see if that helps.
