Illustrator CS2 Newbie-logo is pixelated
Hello,
I am so happy to find this discussion forum to hopefully resolve my question!
I created a 6in x2in logo in Illustrator and when I save it to my desktop and try to insert it into a word doc the image comes up super pixelated and looks awful. I tried saving it with a transparent background and an opaque background with the same result. I am attaching my logo for you to see...
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance!
shunith,
>I definitely did... if you see the time of my reply to Metalgirl
When a post is replied to, the editing option disappears; that seems as inevitable as death.
Jamie has answered you once, and no one else has (this is a non destructive answer to the OP), so either your post #5 (probably) or your post #11 is unanswered and therefore editable while the other is not.
This is one of the traps in these new forums: if you want to suggest a change to a post you will have to post an answer to another post (normally most conveniently the OP), or your suggestion is stillborn.
I believe you answered the OP; that is what I normally do, unless I wish to quote a message; in this case it might be destructive because Jamie, although unlikely, could have replied to #5 instead of #11; so I had to copy and paste as in the days of the fair forums.

Illustrator cs2 creates pdf with anomalies
I have Illustrator cs2 (12.0.1) and I create pdfs with it and send these to my clients for proofing. When I view the pdf in acrobat standard 6 it looks fine. When my sales people and clients view it in reader 8 they get a color break down that is incorrect. For example they see a color that should not be there (in the pdf below it is the blue cyan in the logo). So I need to figure out how to fix this problem. Also it does not happen on every pdf.
here is a link to a pdf
www.ebfchurch.org/usb3.pdf
In the link is a pdf that has a problem, and a jpeg to show what it should look like.
When I save the pdf I have tried turning illustrator off ill. editing capabilities and saved as a V.7 pdf. Not sure what else to try besides making the logo a jpg. Would upgrading to reader 8 help? Would this add that to my selections in illustrator?
The other anomalies are I's and some lines becoming a dotted line. This one is rarer and is easy to fix (somewhat). I simply rotate the object by a super small portion that no one would notice.
Thanks for any help. Most likely some color separation or transparency flattening thing. Could also be the order of your groups/ shapes. Just hard to tell. For testing, I would save a PDF and do a preflight check in Acrobat or other such tool. This usually reveals any problematic stuff...

Colour to transparent gradient in Illustrator CS2
I am creating a logo in Illustrator CS2 and i want to put a reflection
underneath, that has a gradient fading to transparent. It can be done but the logo needs to be used in other programs such as InDesign. When placed into InDesign the transparency of the gradient is no longer there, it changes to white.
Is there any way to do this?
thanks TimTry using a transparency mask: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/13.0/help.html?content=WS2D8B6C1E-A2C8-4902-8 9C8-E5D04A6B314B.html

hi,
i am new to adobe illustrator cs2.
is there any other method to draw line other than s
setEntirePath().
thanks in advance,Hello David,
It sounds to me like you're witnessing the double edged sword of an incredibly sharp display. The contrast and clarity of LCD displays makes it very easy to see razor-thin lines with ultra fine definition, but this comes at a cost.
Font smoothing (a.k.a. font aliasing) is one example of where most LCDs are so sharp that most people prefer to have their text "fuzzed" up a little bit.
A one pixel wide diagonal line is another example that you've discovered - the display is so sharp that there is no blurring around the "steps" of the line. You can see every change in gradient, because as sharp as your CRT might've been, it was blurring the line just slightly - enough to enhance the illusion that your diagonal line was a line rather than a series of adjacent "steps". No software package that I know of has bothered to implement "line smoothing" yet, probably because you need the detail for accuracy when putting lines together.
Sort of related to this, big screen HDTV plasma and LCD monitors look amazing in the store when tuned to an HD station, but most people would be floored if they say how grainy and pixelated a standard cable signal looks on the same display. It's literally like watching an old VHS tape, because the display is so sharp it resolves detail that is invisible on a "lesser" display.
Neat human trick: get used to working with your LCD, and then go back to the CRT if you have a chance. How does the CRT look? I thought I needed glasses the first time I switched back!

Argh! Suspected problem with Illustrator CS2...
When I look in the Stroke/Fill boxes for colours, I have no options available to me. All that appears is this: http://www.ioimi.com/images/strokefill.jpg.
Is this normal? All I want to do is selected different colours for the line stroke and fill colour of something I have already drawn using the pen tool.
Also, how do I move or remove rulers once placed and why is it that if I use the arrow keys on the end of a line it moves it more than one pixel? How do I keep a line straight? It's so much easier in photoshop but I need to learn.
Please help...
Thank you! That is not the Color palette, it is the Swatches palette. It's where pre-mixed colours, gradients, and patterns can be stored and quickly applied. The file you are using has no swatches.
You can add your own by loading swatches from any other Illustrator file or from the libraries that ship with Illustrator. You can also add a swatch by mixing a colour in the Color palette and either dragging the colour onto the Swatches palette or clicking one the New Swatch icon (The page icon next to the trash can). -
Can files created in Illustrator CS2 & CS2 Photoshop be opened and edited in later program version
I have a question I am hoping someone will answer for me. I am designing images in Illustrator CS2 and Photoshop CS2. They are saved as Jpegs and png files to be opened by clients in their image editing programs, using them to make digital scrapbook pages and and other projects. My clients will most likely be using recent versions of Photoshop Elements and/or recent versions of Photoshop. Will my files open fine in their more recent versions? I have been taught you can work forward (a file created in a old program version will open in a newer version) but not backward (a file created in Photoshop CS6 might not open in a older version of Photoshop). Is this correct? Also, is there anything I need to do to my files so they are compatible with current versions?
Thank you!
paper&glueYes. They can be opened in later versions or older versions, because the formats you mention (.JPG and .PNG) are common raster image formats, not native application-specific formats (.ai or .psd).
Be aware, though, because they are both raster image formats, they are more germane to Photoshop than to Illustrator. Illustrator can't really "open" a PNG or a JPEG for editing the way you could edit them in Photoshop (or any other raster image program). Illustrator can import them into an Illustrator file, but that's not the same thing as being able to "open" them in Photoshop and perform local editing (selecting pixels, etc., etc.).
That's true even if the JPEG or PNG was exported from Illustrator. For example, you can draw artwork native to Illustrator using vector paths, and then export a rasterized image of it in JPEG or PNG format. But don't expect someone else using Illustrator to be able to open that JPEG or PNG and still have the native Illustrator paths. They won't.

Illustrator CS2 "Save for Web" not functioning properly.
Illustrator CS2, OS X 10.4.11.
I am creating graphics for the Web with Illustrator CS2. When I go to Save for Web, the Save for Web window opens properly but the original graphics and type (even though the type is converted to outlines), become pixelated therefore my Web images are pixelated.
Attached is an example of a jpeg saved at maximum 100 quality.
I am not umderstanding why my originals become pixelated when doing Save for Web. It used to work until yesterday.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Can anyone help?
Much appreciated and thanks in advance.Mom,
I figured there's nothing wrong with my native file as a co-worker did the same and Save for Web worked. So why is it that when I do Save for Web, the native file pixelates when previewing the "original"?
That's what I can't figure out. One minute it worked fine, the next... bang!
That, and gprobst also being save correctly, imply that there is something wrong with your preferences.
No time to wait for the server. Here is an extract of the most important part:
THE CURE:
Up to Illustrator 10, almost all the preference settings were included in the aiprefs file, and almost all issues with corrupted settings could be solved by deleting or moving it; in some rare cases, moving or deleting the folder holding the settings was required.
From Illustrator CS on, the preference settings have been spread over a number of files/subfolders so in many cases deleting the aiprefs file is not enough: the easy solution is to move the whole folder rather than trying to figure out which file(s) may be corrupted; just deleting the folder without moving it first has proved fruitless in some cases.
Therefore, the cure all consists of the following steps:
1. Close Illustrator.
2. Make a Windows search including hidden files and folders and including subfolders for the folder holding the preference files; the name of the folder depends on the Illustrator version, and the position of the folder depends on the OS version. There is one folder for each version and for each user so it is important to find the relevant one.
Up to version 10, the name of the folder is Adobe Illustrator [X],
From version CS on, the name of the folder is Adobe Illustrator [X] Settings.
[X] is the version number; as standalone versions, CS (Creative Suite) is called 11, CS2 is called 12, and CS3 is called 13, but the version numbers with CS are used in the folder name.
3. Either:
a) Create a subfolder and move all the contents into it; or
b) Move the whole folder to the Desktop.
With both you may recover the contents of the folder by moving it back if the issue is not solved and get your preference settings back.
a) requires creation of the subfolder, but it makes recovery easier, especially if you create a shortcut to the preference settings folder, and you can skip the search if/when corruption occurs again.
You may delete the folder/contents subsequently.
4. If you have Windows Vista, restart Windows. If not, continue to 5 without delay.
5. Restart Illustrator, and see whether the issue is solved. -
WinXP and Vista memory usage with Illustrator CS2 - is Vista winning?
Dear forum.
I have an AI-template file where I insert some very large PNG files into it, modifies the template a bit and then I print the the resulting document in PS-format. The PNG files may be as large as 100 MB (24-bits, approx. 100 mil. pixels in total). It appears that while a Vista-based machine has no problem loading one or even two copies of these huge files into memory, a WinXP-based machine can't even load a single file into memory. Instead, I a dialog box with the message: "Could not read the file because the plug-in could not understand this file". Is it really a faulty plug-in or is it just CS2's way of saying "not enough memory" in a quirky way?
All in all, I would like to hear whether someone has the same experience with Vista, ie. it seems to be better at memory management or better at allocating memory for Illustrator CS2, enabling it to load large PNG files.
The specifications of the WinXP-based machine:
Pentium 4 2.6 GHz
3 GB RAM
Virtual memory 4095 MB in a physically separate drive from the OS disk
All Visual Effects are turned off
Has Illustrator CS2, Adobe Acrobat 7 and Distiller installed (and a few auxilliary programs)
The specifications of the Vista-based machine:
Dell OptiPlex 740SF
AMD x2 5000 (2.6 GHHz)
2 GB RAM (667 MHz, 2 x 1 GB)
250 GB SATA disk
Windows Vista
Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard + Adobe Creative Suite 3
Thanks!Hi, everyone
I got a new t440p 20ANA00UHH (8GB RAM, win8 64bits) about one week ago. It works really well, but its memory usage confused me. In Task Manager, the "Performance" option shows memory is 68% (5.4G in use), but "Users" option shows memory usage 66% (1019.5M in use). Is that normal ? I just opened some websites and word files. -
Illustrator CS2 Printing Help - Epson R1900
Hi there,
I've been printing to my Epson R1900 with no problems from Illustrator CS2 from my Macbook for a year without a problem. I got a new Macbook, only slightly newer than the last, reinstalled Illustrator, and now my print quality is in the gutter. I've tried to adjust the print settings, which I never had to do before, and it's still very poor. What I am printing are just graphics I've drawn on-screen. No images. In the Output section of Print Presets, I can't adjust anything except Right Reading or Left Reading. Can anyone help? I don't know what changed. All of the printer drivers are the same and are installed. The strokes of lines look pixelated, as does the text. I know I could do "Create Outlines" to sharpen it, but I never had to do that before, and I want to be able to edit the text later.
Hopefully someone can help.
Thank you for your time.
KeliYou upgraded your OS as well and that is what has changed you will not be able to print from the epson R1900 with smooth curved lines or smooth paths.
Simply not possible in the newer OS above 10.5.
This is what you must do, Print from Acrobat or if you wish rasterize the art and print that.
Or save it a psd rasterized and print that from Photoshop.
Or purchase a RIP software. -
Illustrator CS2 in Adobe Productions Studio. What is going on here?
Hi:
Finally getting around to learning Illustrator CS2. Using Total Training. Immediate problem....supposedly if I hit "Browse New Extras" on the welcome screen its supposed to open up Bridge and take me directly to the folder. But this link is broken. When I hover over "Browse New Extras," I get a circle with a slash through, the international symbol for " this doesn't work." I can navigate to the folder myself using Browse which does open up Bridge, but it is disturbing that the welcome screen link isn't working....leads me to believe there is something wrong with the installation...
In "Color Settings," BEST WORKFLOW was not available. I had to go out and locate the file and install it by hitting "Load" on the Color Settings Menu. Seemed to load OK. But it says above it "Unsynchronized. Your Creative Suite applications are not synchronized for consistent color. To synchronize, select Suite Color Settings in Bridge." Well, I opened Bridge, and there is no setting for "Suite Color Settings." So I looked in the Bridge and nothing comes up for "Suite Color Settings." So I looked on-line (Google) and found an Adobe article and learned that I should be able to get to Suite Color Settings also by navigating to BRIDGE CENTER. Well I don't have that either, so I found another Adobe article that is entitled "Bridge Center is Missing from Adobe 1.0.X and thought, hmmm, mine is CS2. But I checked the version number and its 1.0.4.6 (this came with Production Studio CS2) so I went ahead and modified the AdobeESDGlobalApps.xml file like it says to do. Restarted Bridge and hit ctrl-alt-shift like it says to do but nothing happens....no Reset Setting dialogue box appears like the article says it should so I repeated Step 6 several times and cannot get anything to happen. So I went manually into Reset settings but there is still no option for Bridge Center.
So now I am totally stumped.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DaveI had a little success by changing the Color Options in Photoshop also to "Best Workflow." Now at least the Color Options in Illustrator and Photoshop both say "Synchronized." Opened BRIDGE and hit Ctrl-Alt-Shift and this time got a dialogue box. Checked "reset options" and closed. But still no "Bridge Center" is showing up in Bridge...

Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 not starting - here is how it was solved.
This document is merely a compilation of information found at the sources named at the bottom of this document.
Basically running older Adobe CS2 Software on a MacBook Pro 10.6.x Snow Leopard - probably like many of you that either can't afford the upgrade to CS3, CS4 or CS5, or maybe don't see the need to do so. It's running good but it is slow since it is using Rosetta, but it does work - well, used to work.
Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, etc. were all running fine after the upgrade to Snow Leopard (under 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2). Then the update to 10.6.3 was installed. At the same time a bunch of other updates - including the Acrobat 8.2 update - were installed. Not really sure what did it, but all of a sudden Illustrator CS2 stopped responding at the start up screen - no longer started up and InDesign CS2 popped the registration/licensing screen. When trying to enter license info on first key press the application quit entirely.
So maybe the 10.6.3 update was the culprit. Never even thought that it could be the Acrobat 8.2/8.2.1 updates. Then I found this thread here:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/613287?tstart=0 (good reading)
Which ultimately pointed me the the instructions here:
>start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html
Replace the corresponding files present in the “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/” folder with the one attached to this document.
Download the attached Mac.dmg (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468/attachments/Mac.dmg) file to a machine where the issue is seen.
Close all Adobe applications
Double Click the Mac.dmg file to mount it.
Copy Mac folder from mounted image. Paste it to /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/.
A message appears to confirm to replace the existing 'Mac' folder. Replace the 'Mac' folder.
Launch Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
The Mac folder attached to this KB document already has the correct permissions set, so it should not be necessary to complete the steps below. However there may be cases where the permissions for the Mac folder get overwritten. In such a case, the original issue can reoccur. To solve this issue, complete the steps below:
Follow Solution 1 and make sure that all Adobe applications are closed.
Right or Control click and select 'Get Info' on the Mac folder in “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/”, which you have copied from the .dmg file attached to this document.
Verify that under 'Sharing and Permissions' all users listed have no write access
If a change is required, click the padlock symbol and provide your Administrator credentials
Select the user which has Write access and change it to 'Read Only'.
Ensure the user 'Everyone' is set to 'No Access.
To check if the issue has been solved, launch Acrobat 8.2 and then Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
< end quote
Even after following the instructions still "no love" from Illustrator CS2 or InDesign CS2. InDesign did no longer show the registration screen, but it didn't continue launching, and Illustrator progressed further along in the start up sequence but also never finished launching.
Then I found another article on the adobe site. I am just quoting the part performed and which ultimately did the trick.
>start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/326/326388.html
Steps 1 and 2 are not relevant so no need to do them
3. At the Finder, choose File > Find.
4. TypeAdobeFnt10.lst (Illustrator CS2), select the system drive, and then press Return.
5. Delete all AdobeFnt10.lst files found.
6. Restart the computer.
7. Restart Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new Adobefnt10.lst or AdobeFnt07.lst file.
< end quote
So, this solved the problems at least for the time being. Hope this helps someone else a bit.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/326/326388.htmlIllustrator CS2 stopped working for me on Snow Leopard as well. What it all boiled down to was not to update to 12.0.1. Not sure which release of Snow Leopard I was on when I figured that out but I keep up-to-date, am now at 10.6.6 and CS2 still works fine. I keep getting prompted to update to 12.0.1 from time to time but just cancel it.
I'm fairly sure I was at 12.0.1 already when I moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard and it was that, not a Snow Leopard update, that "broke" CS2 12.0.1. If I remember correctly, if you now try to apply the update, it won't go through with it anyway. -
Hi,
I am getting this message once in a while in Illustrator CS2 :
Can't open the illustration : The illustration contains an incomplete or garbled object description.
Offending operator ''Bg''

Is there something which is done wrong in illustrator to get this message ?
What can prevent this to happen, because unable to open the document, the document is blank when opened ?
Thanks in advance !We have tried both saving the files on our company server and on our individual desktops - neither of which will open the files.
Fonts are ok - they are all created and saved in CS6.
Printers, I believe are all correctly set up.
We tried a complete reinstall on one PC - still running into the same random files ending up 'lost' with the same error message.
Originally, the cs6 design standards (6 licenses total) were loaded to the server/shared drive and then downloaded onto each PC from there - we believe this may have something to do with the corruption, but this problem has just begun within the last month and the programs were all downloaded over 6 months ago. -
Illustrator CS2 Crashes - Have removed all fonts - still crashing on open
Greetings,
I use Illustrator occasionally and cannot afford to buy al new right now. Plus I am afraid it might not solve the problem if old stuff is still on my computer.
I guess I could reinstall everything but please see below to see what I have done, perhaps I am missing something.
I am on an iMac with OS X 10.6.6
Illustrator stalls when reading fonts on open.
I downloaded mutliple fonts recently (no not the Zebra one) not realizing it could crash my Illustrator. I also downloaded a few brushes for photoshop and patterns. I work on a Mac and even used my timeline to restore to before the date in question.
Have read as many forums posts as I can, tried multiple ideas:
Removed all fonts in user/library/fonts and macintosh/library/fonts
Have disabled half the fonts, all the fonts, have deleted the ones I know I downloaded the other day when this happened.
Deleted original Illustrstor and reinstalled it. (have not tried deleting all of CS 2 yet)
Removed adobe plist files.
Removed Work Flow file
used my back up files to exaclty match font lists before the crash.
Photoshop is working fine. Thank you for any and all help.
Sheree

How to edit a track/route in an image w/ Illustrator CS2
I have an aerial image in a .JPEG file which shows a GPS track/route. I would like to enhance/alter the appeareance of this track/route in the image file using Illustrator CS2. I have tried to manipulate the track/route using Photoshop CS2 but it does not seem to work very well, especially when trying to manipulate the track/route in the manner I wish.
For example, I would like to be able to select the entire track/route using Illustrator and then possibly increase the thickness of the track/route, change the color and most importantly be able to change the appearance of the track/route to appear as a dashed or dotted line. I do not wish to change the size or shape of the track/route as it currently appears on the image. Any suggestions on how to most efficiently achieve my desired goal(s) using Illustrator CS2?
See attached aerial image file which shows the GPS track/route.
Thanks!
Using Illustrator and Photoshop CS2 on a Windows PCIllustrator is not a jpg editor.
There are 2 things you can do....
Use Live Trace to trace the jpg then adjust the shapes for the track. My guess is this won't work well at all.
Use the pen tool and draw the path yourself. You can then completely adjust the path all you want. -
I purchased Adobe Illustrator CS2 on CD many years ago and now i have bought a new iMac computer it won't let me install from the CD's. How can i use this product on iMac ?

Hi, The requirement is as below We have added some zfields in shopping cart at item level. These fields are transferred to R/3 and hence the z field data comes in the customer data tab of the PR. Now, there needs to be one special condition checked.
