Illustrator CS3 and Graphic Tablet Problems

Hi
I have an Aiptek Mediatablet 14000U A3 Wide, Professional Edition, and it works flawlessly in all Adobe Products except CS3. I noticed one thing, that the shortcuts, whenever they have the Control key in any combinations, refuse to work. From the keyboard it works, but still I need to use the tablet of course. Is there any solution?

It maybe because Illustrator does not allow control key to be a part of a keyboard short cut.

  • Installing older software,Illustrator CS3 and Indesign CS5, on new laptop

I've had to abandon my desktop as it was beyond repair and have tried to install Illustrator CS3 and Indesign CS5 (cds) on my laptop. I get a message saying that there was a problem with licensing. I own the software and can't find anyone to speak to at Adobe. What is the next step?

    Hi Aryson,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Please provide the exact error message.
You can refer to the below articles however for licensing issues.

  • Illustrator CS3 and CS4 crashes on two different Mac Pro systems

We have two Mac pro systems. Both are running 10.5.6. As of this morning both systems crash when trying to save files from Illustrator CS3 and CS4.
I'm not sure if this started with a corrupted file, and when we tried to work with it on both machines it effected both.
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Do use TimeMachine for data;
    SuperDuper for imaging the system;
Clone the system at least twice: known good backup image and for testing.
Clone or image can be just a sparse image created with Disk Utility.
I would also keep user accounts separate from the system and on 2nd drive.
Rather than reinstall, use alternate systems. You may even need to do what others have learned to, one system for specific task or configuration.
    Use different user accounts.
Don't rule out plist or preference settings or corruption.
Normally I use Disk Warrior to keep a system maintained but TechTool Pro (5.01) will do more to check files for integrity and errors, and useful addition.
If I was building a sytem today, I'd probably use 10K WD VelociRaptor or two for system, some scratch drives in stripped RAID for editing and saving work, and then media drive(s). With 3 backup sets of work.
Apple now sells OS X 10.5.6 on DVD, replacing the 10.5.4 (and 10.5.0, shame there is no upgrade program) so they must feel 10.5.6 is gold. Not all software and hardware though does, but Sonnet just posted updates for their SATA Tempo card drivers. When it comes to production, newest and latest is not usually best.

  • Illustrator CS3 and Autocad DWG layers

When I open a DWG file in Illustrator CS2, the "Open" dialog box has a check box to "merge layers." If I don't check the box, the DWG file opens with layers intact. I don't see that option when I open the same DWG file in Illustrator CS3 and the file opens with layers flattened. Is this option located somewhere else?

I'm in the same boat as everyone here. Kind of stunned that they would take this option away. Its not really a very workable solution for me unless I can keep the layer structure. Actually worse than the layer structure, is that closed plines become individual line segments so you can't just define a fill color.
I know there are a few plugins for CS2, but they don't show support for CS3 yet. Has anyone heard from any of the plugin creators, or from Adobe, about plans to address this. Here are the plugins I found.
    http://www.baby-universe.co.jp/plug-in/eng/products/exdxf-pro/index.html
    http://www.hotdoor.com/index.php?content=cs3features&navcontent=none
I remember when Adobe switched form PageMaker to InDesign that they made a stand alone application (included with InDesign) to convert from one format to the other). If they don't fix Illustrator, even this kind of approach would be fine for me (but still not as good as from within the application).
So what are the work arounds.
    - OK, I guess the best is to keep CS2 around, but we have people in the office who bought CS3 as a full purchae, vs. upgrade, so they don't have that option.
    - Well fixing the layers while time consuming could be done (but not good option). If autocad file is setup color by layer, with each layer having unique color, you could use select by color and then drag to new layer.
    - Don't know a work around to re-close the segments. Going segment by segment ot join on a site plans with tons of islands and curbs, would not be fun at all.

  • A familiar 'Illustrator CS3 on iMac G5' problem?

    Hello folks,
I should possibly post this on the Adobe forums too, but I'd like to cover the 'hardware' angle here first.
I'm a graphic designer. I've been working on a multiple-page newsletter in Illustrator CS3 (granted, I should normally use InDesign CS3, but I had to stay with Illustrator for this particular assignment). Each page is on its own layer and the entire document has character and paragraph styles applied to its type.
The problem is it's taking absolutely AGES to format any type. Any action, from applying a style to even deleting a single space takes no less than 3 to 4 seconds. You can only imagine how frustrating this is! (not to mention the amount of time I'm seeing eaten up...)
Yesterday, some layers seemed to respond faster than others, but today all were identically slow. Each page is a simple layout with just one image and one block of text - so it's not even a heavy/complicated file. I have lots of unused RAM left when working (over 1GB unused as I check on the iStat widget), so no issue there. However, I notice the fans become louder and the CPU is maxed out at about 95% usage when performing these tasks!
How can this be? Is there anything I should do to 'optimise' either the application or the system itself? I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue at present.
Does anyone recognise a pattern here from similar experience? Any advice would be most helpful.
    Thanks much.
    Steve.

Boot up from your System Install Tiger DVD & run the repair disk/permissions options.
You may also wish to do the following if your fans are still running louder than usual.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3 and FrameMaker 8 - Are interactive rollovers possible?

    Hello,
I recently read an article (see URL below) that talked about using InDesign to create rollover effects on graphics, that would carry forward
as the graphic was brought into FrameMaker and then saved out as a PDF.
    http://www.creativetechs.com/iq/make_a_pdf_portfolio_with_interactive_rollovers.html
Can Illustrator CS3 allow me to take a drawing, screen capture or photograph (graphic with callouts drawn on top of the photo)and add interactive rollover effects? Or, is Illustrator CS3 limited in what it can provide for interactivity, compared with InDesign CS3, Fireworks CS3 and Flash CS3 and Photoshop CS3. I would prefer to work in Illustrator CS3.
Also, I would prefer to either place the .ai file format right into FrameMaker (linked to file) as that seems to work very well. Note, I am trying to stay away from SVGs at this time.
Can I create an interactive drawing or graphic and save it (e.g. ai, png format) so that the end result is an interactive PDF, as shown in the samples on the website above?
Thanks for your responses. It is very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jim

    Yes.
Select the object. Choose Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
Tick the Reflect box. Set the 9 point origin indicator to the reflect origin you want. Set the "copies" box to 1. Click OK.
You should then be able to alter the original object and see changes in the reflection.

  • Illustrator CS3 and Intel Core2

I am having problems saving my files. Some files take 35 mins to save. I have many layers and a placed JPG in my file. The file is 2.4KB. I have similar file sizes and they take about the same time to save as well.
    I am using:
    Dell Optiplex GX745
    Intel Core 2
    2GB of RAM
What I have started doing is using the pathfinder to merge shapes together and it seems to cut down on the file size it also saves easier but still takes a while to save.
Is it okay to run Illustrator CS3 on a Intel Core 2?
    thank you,
    cherie

Yep, I run it all day on Core 2 and Quad Core. Sounds like some kind of system problem, rather than a file problem. And are you sure the file is 2.4KB? Did you mean 2.4MB or 2.4GB? But even at those sizes it shouldn't take 35 minutes to save.
Is the drive you're saving to local? External? Network?

  • Getting files from a business that uses Photoshop CS6. I use CS3 and have text problems

Hi, I'm getting files from a business that uses Photoshop CS6. I use CS3 and when I edit the text, the text moves to a different location even off screen.
Anyone know how to fix this?
It makes it hard to copy the text and imposible to change the color or make corrections.
This just started when they went to Photoshop CS6.
    Thanks,
    Jeffery

Ask the folks supplying you with files whether they've updated to the latest version...  There were problems with Photoshop CS6 13.0.0. saving text layers in jumbled-up fashion.

  • CS3 and Office 2007 problem

    Issue:
When logged in as a local user (no admin rights) Word 2007 will crash the whole computer when you type a key.
The reason I am posting on Adobe forums is that this only happens when CS3 is installed as well on the same computer.
    Troubleshooting:
Both products work fine as a local user account, if only one or the other are installed.
During login, Acrobat Pro will display a MSI/Installer progress bar for about 30secs. After I updated Acrobat to 8.1.3, that stops, but the Word crashing problem doesn't.
When starting Office, setup runs everytime. It shows just a progress bar and goes for about 1min.
On a doc, if I wait about 5min and don't do anything. A MSI install progress bar will run for "MS Office 2007 Pro", this will re-spawn for several mins. until it finally stops. After that, Word IS usable.
    No other problems with CS3.
Fully updated both CS3 and Office 2007
This could very well be an Office issue, but it is associated with CS3 also being installed on the same computer.
    Any help would be great!

Agree, this looks like an interaction between Acrobat 8 and Microsoft Office. The symptom you used to see (prior to 8.1.3) was probably Acrobat's "self-healing" process trying to fix something in Office, probably related to the PDFMaker feature that is installed into Office. Perhaps you have a somewhat unconventional installation of Office 2007 with custom registry settings?
Also, you mention that Word "crashes the whole computer" - are you referring to a BSOD or what? Word (and the Acrobat plug-ins for PDFMaker) don't go into any protected mode that can cause a full system crash. Very strange!

  • Illustrator CS3 and Office 2008

I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue but, we recently upgraded to Office 2008. I know there are a lot of issues with the product, but it is effecting my operators that work exclusively in Illustrator. The randomly, they get the message:
Not enough memory was available or an object
    > was too complex - Reducing the size of this document window may help.
The documents they are working with are NOT complex by and means. They are maybe 500 to 800k files. The other issue is when printing, it does not always go to the "default" printer specified on the first try. Without changing anything and printing again, then it goes to the correct printer. ???
When running CS3 and Office 2004 - we did not experience this. So I am assuming it is something to do with MS 2008 - but not sure what?? Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this after upgrading MS.
We are running Tiger 1.4.11 / 2.5 GB RAM on PPC

    I haven't, and I'm running Illustrator CS2 and Office 2008 on a G5 with Leopard.

  • Illustrator CS3 and Motion 3 don't play well together?

I can't get any paths from Illustrator CS3 to appear as shapes in Motion 3. The plugin from motionsmarts.com doesn't work either. I just end up with a .motn file that is empty.
Does anyone know how to get Illustrator paths into motion as shapes and not pictures?

    Howdy,
The export script seems to work fine for me in Illustrator CS3. When you say "empty .motn" file, are you trying to open the exported file as a project? If you read the Read Me! that comes with the export script, it makes clear that the exported file is a preset, not a project. Just drag the exported file into your Motion project via the File Browser or Finder (as explained in the Read Me).
I just did this with CS3 and the path, stroke width, stroke color and fill color all came across just fine. Keep in mind that you can only export stuff Motion has an equivalent for, so no dashed lines or compounds paths, etc.

  • Illustrator CS3 and Illustrator V10 compatibility

    Hi
Can Illustrator v10 open Illustrator cs3 files?
    If so which extension types?
I am mainly interested in EPS and AI file formats but will be nice to know if there are other extension types as well.
    Thanks
    Dave

Probably. I've never downloaded vector art from istockphoto, but I have from shutterstock, which is similar and has some of the same creators. None of the files I have downloaded use any feature that's not in version 8. Even if the art was created using 9 or higher tools, those features are no longer in the file. Remember the company want as may people as possible using the files, so they have to be compatible with the most possible software.
Also, I don't see anything in that image that requires higher versions than 8. The only possibility, and it's a long shot, is that live Pathfinder effects are used on some shapes.

  • Illustrator CS6 and Graphic Styles (Freezing)

Hi everyone, I'm on a Mac and have Illustrator CS6. Whenever I try to open up Graphic Styles, it freezes.
I deleted preferences and even did the disk permissions repair, then restarted. Nothing. I tried to create multiple types of documents too (print, web, etc), but whenever I try to open styles after creating that document, it freezes.
These are the vanilla default graphic styles, mind you.
It might freeze for other tools, but I'm not sure, haven't gotten that far in the investigation. Would anyone happen to have any ideas? :/ Thanks!!

Just got this issue (yet again). I tried something I use to fix certain Bridge glitches - unmount any disk called USERS. I don't know why, but my Adobe programs don't like disks with this name. Then, when you click on graphic styles, give it like, 30sec - 2min to load. You can even just browse the interwebs. The AI icon on your toolbar will bounce when it's loaded up and ready to use again. Also, make sure the Graphic Styles aren't displayed when you close the file, or it can be hell to re-open it at all. Don't know why, but I had this same problem with CS5.
Let me know if it works!!

  • Illustrator CS6 and Cut Studio problems

When I cut with Cut Studio from Illustrator CS6, my stuff may or may not cut completely.  A lot of the time it stops midstream then i have to restart it cut again.  Very time consuming and not profitable either.  Anyone else with this problem and can it be fixed?

I have a Imac g5 only couple years old now, but had the issue right off the bat.  Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5    Roland Camm-1 Pro  GX 500     Cut studio
As far as artwork goes, it is random when it runs.  old existing files, brand new files, might be a graphic or verbage.  Doesn't seem to care.  The only thing i have noticed is most of the files i get from a customer (which isn't often) runs without a hitch.
I feel CS6 is not up to snuff as a program.  CS2   and AI 8  were awesome but won't run on my new machine.  would you suggest i try to install Cut Studio again, check on the driver?
    thanks
