Illustrator CS3 - curser with a life of its own!

I have a curser problem will all the tools in illustrator under windows vista. When I try to select a point, scale, or draw any object the actual active area of the curser moves! For example if I draw a box the start point is in the middle of the pen tool. If I try to select a point with the arrow tool it will not let me and I have to click on a random area around the actual point untill it is selected. The most annoying is when scaling an object, when I try to click and drag a handle the curser moves to the side, away from the handle all by itself! I have been using illustrator for almost 10 years and I have never seen anything like this, please help!!!

You didn't mention whether your mouse was wireless/wired, optical/ball/other ...
Mice are interrupt driven. Check to see if you have any IRQ conflicts in the Control Panel-> System-> Hardware-> Device Manager. Also check the IRQs in Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> System Information. Are any devices sharing interrupts with your mouse? Also the more you tax your system resources, the more likely you are to have issues with interrupt-driven devices.
If you have a ball mouse is it clean inside? Twist open the bottom panel and clean out the gunk. I clean the roller ball with alcohol and a Q-tip on a regular basis and use a pen knife to scrape gunk off the x and y rollers, and blast it out with a little dust off. (while everything is unplugged of course).
If you have an optical mouse, what kind of surface are you working on? Optical mice don't like very smooth, very coarse or reflective surfaces. I've tried a variety of surfaces and the cardboard backing from a pad of paper is the best lo-tech solution for me. I've actually placed my laptop's optical mouse on a glass table and the cursor went shooting off the screen.
Assuming you have any of the following items, have you tried: changing the wireless channel on your router; temporarily turning off wireless; temporarily pulling the batteries on your wireless keyboard; switching channels on your wireless keyboard or mouse (see the hardware manual); moving your wireless dongle to a USB port on the front of your PC; changing the batteries in your wireless mouse?
If your PC is hidden away under the desk or in a cabinet, the signal strength may be low causing the pointer to behave erratically. Reflective glass surfaces (windows) behind your computer may also interfere with the signal.

Keyboard with a life of its own

I have a Setellite that is now a few years old.
In the last few months, it has acquired a habit of spontaneously typing usually tab, caps lock and other keys in the of left of the keyboard.
The problem is partially alleviated if I use an external keyboard, but it still happens every hour or so.
I'm guessing its a (few) loose connections...
Any suggestions welcome as its rapidly becoming unusable.
Am I going to have to change the keyboard, and how do I go about that?

It is possible that the contacts on the left side are not completely executable. It is a little bit confusing that there is a similar problem if you use external keyboard. Did I understand you right about that?
I dont know which notebook model you have but the best solution is to change the keyboard. You can check if you can get the used one on ebay or you can contact the service partner in your country. Ask them how much costs the new one and if there is possibility to buy a used one.

IPhone 5 has a life of its own

I started noticing that my iPhone was acting weird after upgrading it to iOS 7.
1. When the phone is in sleep mode and someone calls you, you wont be able to accept the call because the screen is not working.
2. When you wake up the phone from its sleep mode, you wont be able to unlock the phone because the screen is not working.
3. If you happen to answer a call from its sleep mode, the phone will start dialling numbers or even end the call.
4. If you happen to unlock the phone from its sleep mode, the phone will have a life of its own and will start to open/close apps. Usually it will go to Messages and type "qzqzzqaqzqzqqaqzqzqzq" nonstop. Luckily, I haven't experienced the phone deleting anything by itself.
5. The funny thing is, I can bypass these problems!
*I can accept a call using the Apple Earpods.
*I can unlock the phone from its sleep mode by pressing the wake-up button 3 times and everything is back to normal.
*I can also accept calls while using the phone.
But now I'm sick and tired of doing these steps. I want a permanent solution.
*Phone is updated to 8.1.2
*Tried hard reset (Home button + Sleep button)
*Tried erasing the phone's content and restoring it.
*I haven't tried erasing without restoring the phone and use it like a brand new phone.
*I haven't tried removing the screen protector (free from otter case)
Can anyone please help me?

have you tried erasing it from the device or by a forced restore to completely reinstall ios? there are differences because if you restore from the phones menu, and there is a error in the software restoring from the menu it is possible the issue persists. if you did a restore, you should contant apple care there is probably something wrong with the device it's hardware!

My iTunes has a life of its own.....

Here is my dilemma. Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard my iTunes has had a life of its own. It never did this before. It starts up whenever it wants. I could be in Safari for example and suddenly my iTunes fires up a shows on the screen. I never click on it or nothing. It gets quite annoying after a while.
At first I thought it might have something to do with me plugging and unplugging my headphones in my macbook. But it has done it once or twice without this action. The latest Snow Leopard update didn't fix it nor did the new iTunes version 9.
I'm at a loss. Anyone else see this or have a solution?

I have the same issue. Just today it's started happening. While watching a video I'd suddenly hear the intro to one of my podcasts, however when I paused the video the podcast would also stop. I close iTunes and all other unneeded programs when watching movies, and yet it opens by itself and begins to play the first podcast in my podcast library.
This has happened 5-6 times in last few hours, and is now driving me to want to uninstall iTunes (despite my large music library, iPhone, and iPod--listening Apple?) so I can make it through a movie without this interruption.
We all know how adept Apple is at issuing a software update when a jailbreak hits the internet, so why not apply some of the coding to this flaw?

Keyboard has a life of its own ...Help PLS!

my keyboard sometimes seems to have a life of its own. for example when I am using ITunes and filling out some from on the Internet it will mute the sound on its own and fill in a buch of charachters in the forms, as if I was pushing down mutliple buttons at the same time. the buttons that are always acitvated, at least from what i could see are the shift, e and 5. After a few seconds the the keyboard returns to normal. has anybody had a similar problem before?
I don´t know what could be the problem. Please help me if you can!

Opening eps files in illustrator cs3, created with GMT

I have been using previous versions of illustrator (10.0, 11.0, 12.0) to edit my eps files created with GMT (Generic Mapping Tools) with no problem.
I have just recently installed CS3. When I open these GMT generated eps files the colors are changed and lines are shifted when compared with the original eps image (which i can open and view in GSview, a postscript viewer, with no problem).
My current work-a-round is to open these eps files with illustrator 11.0 (which I have installed on another computer), save the file as an AI file (version 11.0), and then open this file with illustrator CS3. The file then displays correctly.
My question is this, what has changed with the CS3 version of illustrator that does not allow me to open eps files created with GMT (Generic Mapping Tools). Older versions of Illustrator open these files with no problems.
My OS is windows XP - 64-bit. My older computer running illustrator 11.0 is winXP - 32 bit. I bought the newer Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard because I was having trouble installing the older version of illustrator onto my 64-bit machine.

Iphone with a mind of its own! HELP

I've had my iphone for a few months now and it has developed a mind of its own. It will turn on whenever it likes and drain my battery. It freezes while I am scrolling and if I am surfing the web, it will boot me out back to my home screen. This past week I made an appt with apple and they said there is nothing wrong with my phone. Hmmmmm.
Now today I am sitting here at work with my iphone next to me and ti turned on and now there is this daisy looking icon on my screen and I can't turn it off. I never touched my phone and now if I try to slide my bar to unlock it, it does nothing. Has anyone seen this icon its in the middle of my screen and looks like a daisy.
BTW, I've never downloaded anything to my phone and all the updates are current.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I've been having a similar but less extreme problem - just turning itself on and draining the battery, peeps at Apple store saw no problem, even though the phone can rack up 2 hours of use (as recorded in the phone) during 10 hours of absolutely no use. I made my own post of the problem:

Someone in the other guys thread suggested re-installing iTunes. I don't know about that. I restored the phone to no effect. the 'home' button pushing itself could explain your problems (and mine), except for the daisy - and it sounds like a reboot fixed that. Software is finicky and sometimes you just have to reboot. Quite honestly, software these days is too large to be fully tested.

My apple macbook pro is about 16mths old, its trackpad seems to have gotten a life of its own. it will be fine then after a few minutes the arrow on the page will start moving and clicking all on its own, im not sure what to do?

My Lacie external hard drive has a life of its own

Hi,
I've had my Lacie External hard drive for about 4 months and i have a recurring problem, it wont always show up in finder or on the desktop.
It shows up in disk utilities just fine, but stupidly the first time this happened i didn't know that you could right click and "open" it from disk utils, so i panicked and reformatted the hard disk, obviously losing everything inside.
Since then i have learnt from my mistakes and now when it vanishes (when i start up the computer it just randomly doesn't appear...) i just open via disk utils. But this isn't fair! It should appear EVERY time its switched on and plugged in. Thats what i paid for.
I issued a ticket with Lacie but with lots of trial and error they were able to tell me that is was more likely my imac and not the external hard drive. I am crossing my fingers hoping for help here!

IWeb with a mind of its own!- not updating

Grrrrrrr!!!I have spent a few hours updating my site. Now, it is finished publishing... but when I visit the site, NO CHANGE> I did get a message that it couldn't read a certain pic. But that was only once. I changed a small thing, published again and no message about the pic, but also, no change on the site. HMMM. Is this program conscious? lol
Also, people are having a hard time getting on the RSS feed ( for the Blog site- the GOOD life). Does it work for you? Comes up with an error message of sorts.

I frequently experience the same issue. In fact, sometimes it shows me a site I created months ago. What I do is go to my .Mac page and observe that the page names are at least the ones I had named them if that was part of the change. Then I launch from there and sometimes that solves the problem. Another drastic measure I have taken is to create an idential page again and copy-and-poast the content from the old to the new and then delete the old page. I hope someone can come up with a better idea.

Object with a mind of its own

hi....
i have two objects currently sharing a layer, and i have used various behaviours and filters on them already, separately as individual objects AND together as a layer. no problem UNTIL i tried to change the rotation of one of the objects in the properties tab of the inspector. the other object changed its position on the screen, without my assigning it to do so. according to ITS properties tab, it still has the same x and y coordinates as before......and its bounding box has not moved from the original position......but the object itself has definitely moved horizontally halfway across the screen. now why would it do that?

On your Rotate behavior, do you have the "Affect Objects" checked or unchecked?

Satellite 2430-402 has a life of its own

i had my satellite 2430-402 for just over 2 years and it has been absolutely fine but recently i noticed a problem which is getting worse every day. every few minutes the arrow mode icon lights green (without me touching the Fn key) and i lose control of the computer...strange writing appears..wizards open and close infront of me and im totally powerless as the keyboard stops working during this event...it continues for less than a minute and then every thing goes back to normal for a minute or 2 then the same thing happens again....
I'am about to start typing a thesis for my work and there is no way i can do it if this problem persists...by the way although it happen at any time it can be made worse if i try to type any thing,,even a password to log into a website...i had to use a friends computer to send this sos message...can any one help please...thanx

There might be different reasons for that... SOFTWARE or HARDWARE !!!
First you will have to check if this happens only when you are running windows.
SOFTWARE:
If yes,
(1) a malicious program (trojan, keylogger etc) might be installed on your laptop, or
(2) a faulty driver might be the reason. Have you recently attached a usb mouse or keyboard to your computer? This might have installed a wrong or incompatible driver.
Start your computer and keep it in the PRE-BOOT stage (enter the BIOS-SETUP and wait to see if this will occure there again).
HARDWARE:
If yes, I assume that the contacts of your keyboard film are dirty. You will have to remove the keyboard, open the film-lock and clean the contacts with alcohol or a contact spray. If you are not familiar with this procedure, please consult the Technical support.

Help! Mac Mini has a life of its own!

My mac mini (I have an 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running leopard 10.5.5
2GB RAM with 4 USB ports) all of a sudden is shutting down and running commands over and over on the screen. This is the computer my autistic son uses to communicate (he can't write-only type). so I need it up and running quickly...can anyone help?

Boot from the OS installer CD - you put the CD in, start up while holding the"c" key down.
Proceed as if you want to install the Os, until you see the Utilities menu on the top of the screen. Clcik there, then select Disk Utility. In the new window select the hard drive (in the left column), then click on Repair drive.
After that, run Repair Permissions.
