Illustrator CS3 files prints without black when sent to printer

Howdy,
First, excuse my noobiness.
I have a large (dimension wise) illustrator cs3 file that consists of a warm gray color for the background and solid vibrant colors on the fore. No linked images, only vectors. Everything is in cmyk. I printed to our laser just to see how the colors are looking and they were fine. Then I plotted it in-house at full size and those prints looked fine too. I sent the same illustrator file to our printer but when they printed it their prints looked pastel/too light as if the file I sent them didnt contain any blacks. Exporting to a .tiff fixed the problem, but I really wanted to avoid .tiff files because of how large the graphics are going to be in the end (about 3ft wide by 18+ ft tall). Is there something that I should've done before turning in the illustrator files to our printer?
Thanks in advance
-j

Hi
am sorry but that means if u made atiff u need to make a pdf and print right in acrobat ie (pdf/X1 a) or
if u to print in AI u place that pdf Linked Dont embed it works if its not ya colour Values
Imran
Thanx

How do I send a large Illustrator CS3 file to a client that needs it for printing?

Hey, another way that i just discovered by complete accident is by selecting what you want to send, and in Illustrator, going to File>Save For > and then click on okay. > then you save it under Pictures or wherever you wish, and name it. Now, all you have to do is compose an email, and attach it!
Hopefully this works for you like it does for me!

  • Which Illustrator CS3 files are editable in Microsoft Word?

    Dear all
I need to design something using InDesign and Illustrator CS3 (or just one of these depending on the responses I get).
Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)? It would mainly just be text which would need to be edited in Word afterwards.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adam

    >Which Illustrator CS3 files are editable in Microsoft Word?
    None of them.
    >Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)?
You can export text from InDesign and open/edit that text file in Word, but you will not get layout, page size, columns, margins, or graphics. You can export art from Illustrator as EMF or PNG (I much prefer PNG) them import those graphics normally and position as you want.
Making your Illustrator or InDesign file into an editable Word file means doing a lot of it over again in a much worst interface.

  • After years of no problems I can't print photos. When I select print I get the message "There are no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed this feature will be unavailable.  What are themes? How do I install them?

After years of no problems I sddenly can't print photos. When I select print I get the message "There are no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed this feature will be unavailable.  What are themes? How do I install them? Why has this problem suddenly arisen?

Re-installing does not affect your Library in any way. You don't delete it, only the app.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Opening illustrator cs3 file in Fireworks changes color, but not code

I created a vector graphic in Illustrator CS3, with RGB. I
then opened the file in Fireworks and everything looks fine because
it's still vector. But the color is not right. It's close, but much
lighter. The RGB values are exactly the same.
    Anyone have this problem before?
    thanks,
    Justin

Fireworks does not use color profiles, so the colors you see
in Fireworks will be what the majority of Web site visitors will
see (skipping, for the moment, the huge problem of monitor
variation). Only Safari displays images using the color profiles.
I recently read a moderately controversial blog post on
setting/disabling profiles in Photoshop (comments disabled at 200),
but many people appreciated the article here:
    Best
Practice Color Setup for Web Designers
So, while your experience is with Illustrator, it's probably
the same underlying cause. Illustrator is showing you the colors
with an ICC profile, even though they're in RGB. When you open the
image in Fireworks, you see the colors without a profile.
This is one reason I like using Fireworks. I have a better
feeling about what my visitors are going to see (again, setting
aside the huge problem of monitor variation).

  • How can I print in black when the colour cartridge is empty

    Hi,
I have an HP Photosmart 5510 that I use ONLY for simple black on white printing for work.  I have it set to black ink only but today, a wet and cold Sunday night when I really really need the d*mned thing to work because it's month end and I have to send copies of all my worksheets to head office, I get an error message to the effect that it won't allow me to print using the brand spankin' new original HP black cartridge until I buy some totally unwanted colour cartridges to keep it company.
Am I really being held to ransom like this?  Are Hewlitt Packard so short of cash that their corportate monolith will falter and fall if I don't buy expensive consumables whose only function is to print in colours I have no wish or need to use?
Am I really unable to use the black print facility on *MY* printer until I've fed yet more cash into the greedy maw of some US blue chip company?
If the answer to any of the above is yes then tomorrow evennig after work I shall have to go to the store where I bought my HP printer and very publically tell them were to shove it and why.  I shall seek out a new printer  from ANY MANUFACTURER OTHER THAN HP that allows me to print in black only and I shall make it a mission to spread the word.
Of course it's entirely possible that HP have a simple fix that will allow me to use black cartridges only in which case I shall be delighted to continue buying original HP black cartridges on a monthly basis.
On the other hand I do need a reply urgently because as I say, it's Sunday night and this problem has put me hours behind for work tomorrow as it is.
    Thanks  (I hope).
    Andrew

    Hi,
Firstly I'd like to say: I'm not working for any computer vendor, both hardware and software. From my understanding, the technology to make those inject printers dictates why we need all inks to print when we only need black.
    1. On some printers which ONLY use 2 ink cartridges (black & tri-color) we can print black only if the tri-color cartridge still has ink at least one color
    2. For many other printers which have individual color ink cartridges we need all of them to print even we only print black only. Printers may stop during the warming up process.
    3. For some printers, we can force them to print black only without ink in one color cartidge but this would more damage than good because this will shorten their lives.
One thing I've mentioned few times. Vendors (all of them) should allow users to SCAN without inks. But as mentioned above, printers may stop during the warming up process and first of all THEY ARE PRINTERS.
    Regards.

  • Viewing large Illustrator CS3 files problem

I use bridge to browse through previous work in created in Illustrator CS3.
Problem - when viewing these files in Bridge some files (whatever their dimensions) show as large thumbnails and others (with the same AI dimensions) are small and do not seem to stretch in Bridge?
Can anyone explain how to stretch the thumbnail in Bridge.

Sorted - I need to save the CS3 file with 'create pdf compatible file' checked in the options, and it then opens as a large thumbnail in bridge.

  • I cannot print a shipping label pdf file - there is no print button, and when I choose print preview, the page is blank

I used to be able to print shipping labels from Amazon.com. The label image is a pdf, but on the pdf page there is no print button. When I go to file print preview in the main tool bar, the image shows the file name, but no shipping label.

You can't delete pages with Reader, only with Acrobat.

  • Printing in black when color cartridge is empty

    Hi,
I'm looking for a new color printer that will print in black and white when the (or a) color cartridge is empty. It seems like all the printer I've had in the past make you change out an empty color even if you are only wanting to print in black.
What does HP have to offer and or what do I need to know to find the correct type printer?
    Thanks,
    Paul

The printers with separate ink supplies and printheads (and typically four or more cartridges, one for each color) typically require ink in all colors to allow printing.  Printer's with a black and a tri-color cartridge with the printhead integrated with the ink supply typically do not require ink in all colors, and many of the recent models will work with the color (or black) cartridge removed compeltely.

  • Importing Illustrator CS3 files into flash CS3 to tween

    Hello,
I'm definitely not a flash pro so I would like some help!
I'm trying to animate a man in Flash CS3 who was drawn in
    illustrator CS3.
I've imported all the layers but when I try to tween them
only the ones that have a single path tween correctly. Can you only
tween single path layers or am I being an idiot?
Many thanks and I look forward to your comments!

you can actually make illustrator drawings into symbols for
use in Flash CS3 while they're still in Ai. I would try that
approach first. There are some video tutorials on Adobe's site-
    I've lost the link.
That takes it out of the multi-layer wackiness, and puts
    everything together in nice packages.
Hopefully I'm not telling you something you already know X

  • Saving an Illustrator CS3 file to CS2?

How can I save an Illustrator CS3 EPS file so that a CS2 user can open it? If so, how is this accomplished?
    Thanks,
    Kelly

If you Save As, hen click Save, you will be presented with a second dialogue asking for version number. Select CS2 or earlier and the file can be edited in CS2. Some effects and appearances might not survive the translation or will require flattening, which makes them harder or impossible to edit.
Your colleague might also be Placing the EPS rather than opening it.

  • Exporting Illustrator CS3 files to Illustrator CS2

Can anyone tell me how I can "downsave" an Illustrator CS3 .eps file to be able to open it in Illustrator CS2? Thanks.

You need to Save the CS3 file as a legacy version.
Choose Save As, give it a name, click Save. On the next screen, choose CS2 from the drop down list at the top.
    Good luck!

  • HP C6180 does not print in black when a color cartridge is out of ink - a design flaw?

I mostly print in black and bought the color printer as convenience. Recently I get a message that ink in Cyan cartridge is low, even I have done practically no printing in color for a long time. It seems that I am consuming  color ink during power up cleaning process. When it gets low enough, after few print jobs, it stops printing in black also!  I do not understand why printing in black is disabled when ink in a color cartridge is low must be allowed to print in black till all black ink is consumed. This seems like forcing customers to buy color cartridges even is they want to print in black.  A highway robbery!.

    Hi there.
Two things that might help you:  first off, if you print in fast draft mode, you'll print in black only.  Otherwise, it will underprint some color.  It actually makes the black look better and sharper.  BUt, if you're simply printing webpages, just print fast draft, double-sided, and save some ink and paper.  I print two pages per side, at least until my eyes get a little older.  Anyway, that's where your ink has been going.
As for not allowing you to print, it's actually to protect the printhead.  As a side note, your printer actually has a very impressive air management system.  It actually reduces the amount of waste ink by flowing ink across the inside of the nozzles to keep them healthy, rather than spitting ink to keep them healthy.  I was kind of sad we didn't advertise the efficiency side of things for that printer.
Hope that clears things up a bit.
I work for HP and hope to make your day Sproutastic!

  • Objects and Images Printing Much Darker When Sent to Press

So, I'm sure this has been addressed multiple times in many other threads, but for the life of me, I can't find one that addresses my specific issues.  So here goes...
When producing ads or catalog layouts with drawn objects, be it solid or gradient filled, or when adding color photos to the design, it always happens that everything turns out much darker on their end.  It's frustrating and I don't know if it's something I'm not doing, or if it's something in the offset printing process...  Advice would be appreciated.
I am currently using ID CS5.5, and am an intermediate to advanced user, but when it comes to color management...I'm lost.
It's disheartening sending out great ads and layouts when they come out so crappy on their end.  (PS...forget about asking for proofs, cause I've asked for years on projects like mass catalog printings, and they just don't do it...so I need to work around that).  Thanks guys and gals!

its one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions.
as pete said, colour calibration with your monitor may be a factor, but there are many other items to consider, such as:
    * the quality of the light in the room in which the monitor is in;
    * whether the images being printed are beyond the max ink weight for the paper (an uncoated stock will have a lower max ink weight than a coated stock)
    * what RGB-CMYK conversion is being used. to demonstrate this, try this - take an RGB pic, make it CMYK using the SNAP newsprint profile and save it as 1.tiff. then, go back to the original RGB pic and make it CMYK using the COATED FOGRA 39 profile and save it as 2.tiff. now, place both pics into indesign and go to the seps preview and compare the picture qualities side by side.
there are also issues which may be present at the printer's end, but I won't speculate as to what they may or may not be doing. instead, it is worth having a chat to your providers. Providers interested in your work normally take the time to provide as much information as they can.
it seems to me that if images are constantly coming out darker, that the max ink weights for the stocks being printed on are being exceeded. when submitting ads/prints, are you using the ink limit preview in the seps preview panel and checking it against the max ink weight suggested by the publisher or printer?
    my buck o'five.

  • Print copy ignores my request to print in black and white and prints in color anyways.

I recently reinstalled complete software for my c7280 all-in-one.  I can no longer control the color of the prints or the preview
screen.   If I specify black cartridge only and print preview, I get a color print with no preview.
This problem is restricted to Internet Explorer 9.0 and does not show up when printing from Safari Window Version.  I am running
on Windows 7, 32 bit, home edition.  I did not have any problems with earlier versions of Internet Explorer.  The Internet Explorer
seems to have many compatibility issues with many programs, but especially printing.  Any fixes I can try, other than falling back
to an earlier version of Internet Explorer?

    Hi breyeschow,
When printing from a Chromebook via Google Cloud Print, the printing options available to you are dependent upon the app that you are printing from.  If the app does not have the option, there is not a way to adjust the settings of the printer to allow for those options.
