Illustrator CS3: how to extend a line along its direction

This is my line
I have to extend it along its direction. How can I do?

If you want to extend it to a specific length/angle:
1. White pointer. Select the anchorPoint you want to move. Drag it and snap it to the anchorPoint at the opposite end of the segment. Leave it selected.
2. DoubleClick the white Pointer. Enter the desired angle and distance.
Or:
1. LineTool. Click (don't drag) at the "origin" anchorPoint. In the resulting dialog, enter the desired length and angle.
2. White Pointer: Select the anchorPoint you want to move and snap it to the end of the line you just drew.
3. Select and delete the line.
If you want to extend/shorten its current length by a specific length:
1. White pointer. Select the anchorPoint you want to move. Drag it and snap it to the anchorPoint at the opposite end of the segment. Leave it selected.
2. DoubleClick the white Pointer. Change the sign (+, -) of the movement values. Key + or - after the existing value(s) and the distance you want to add/subtract.

Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
My system details are:
Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.

Importing CAD files into Illustrator CS3 - does'nt scale dashed lines

In CS2 you could import a CAD file and it would scale dashed lines.
In CS3, Illustrator no longer does this. It scales the stroke weight, but does not recognize the dashed line information.
Is there a solution to this?

You can expand dashed lines first and then scale them.
Then you will get a whole bunch of vector objects, one for each dash.
I am not very familiar with CAD, but I know that imported CAD files are sometimes fiendishly difficult to edit because vector lines are often in small pieces that don't join up properly.
So I reckon Expand on all lines and then judicious Unite in Pathfinder would probably be the best way of going about things. Unite makes Compounds of closed paths so you have to be careful, otherwise you might get a huge file that won't print without splitting.
But remember that once you've expanded the lines you won't be able to edit their weight.

How to Extend Blue Line to Edges?

My web page fills 100% of any monitor it is viewed on. Below
the title graphic, I inserted an image of a blue line. It is a gif
measuring 5 pixels in width and 900 pixels in length. I want the
line to stretch and shrink to fit every monitor as well. How do I

Perhaps in DW and IE it is but not in FF. I think you'd be
better off with
a page background image that tiles to fill the width from
left to right.
Any other approach will depend on the body tag's margin
settings.

How to extend analog line using VoIP with SPA8800

I would like to use a SPA8800 to make an analog line available to a VoIP phone (because at the location of the phone only LAN is available and no phone line). This is, when the line rings, the VoIP phone should ring. It would be nice to have if the VoIP phone could also use the line to dial out.
I already have the SPA8800, furthermore I have a SPA941 phone.
PSTN ----- line ----- SPA8800 ----- Ethernet ----- SPA941
Can you give advice on the necessary configuration for the SPA8800 for this setup? The few guides I could found were all for the other way around (Internet ----- SPA8800 ----- analog phone).

If the trigger signal you need is TTL type, you can use one of the general purpose counters available at the board to do that.
You just need to configure the counter to do retriggerable single pulse generation, and have the reference signal that clocks the analog inputs routed to the gate of that counter. That will generate a pulse at the event of an active edge at the counter gate.

Illustrator CS3 - How can I remove a "linked" image???

I have an illy file that has several "linked" images.
Some of these I wanted to keep and have embedded.
However, I would like to delete two in particular...which the images are no longer available or desired. But I see no way to do this.
I have tried to go to outline mode/wireframe view... and there are no boxes indicating where these images should go...so I can't delete those.
The two images that Illy keeps asking for when I open the file have a red ? to the right of the image names.
How can I permanently get rid of these?

But on the off-chance it doesn't work for someone, what I have done in the past is to make a very small dummy file with the same name -- say a solid block if red -- and link the file to that. Then, Go To Link > Delete will work. It can be slow and painful if there are a lot of missing links, but it works.

Extending trend lines in Numbers '09

I have a chart with a trend line, and I'd like for the trend line to extend past the last data point, to forecast where the data is heading. How do I do that? thanks.

Unfortunately, Numbers charts don't have an option to extend the line. However, if your trendline is a linear trendline, you can easily add a "forecasted" data point to your series in your table and include it in the plot. Or you can add forecasted points to both ends of your chart if you want to extend the line in both directions. If these forecasted points are outside of the range of your chart (i.e., less than the axis min or greater than the max), the forecasted data points will not plot, just the extended line.

[AI CS3]: How to prevent Illustrator from adding a header while saving a PDF

Hi All.
I am using Illustrator CS3 (Win XP SP II) and am having a problem while processing PDF files with Javascript. Specifically, I create a PowerPoint presentation and save as a PDF, one slide per page. Then, using an Acrobat javascript, I split this PDF into individual pages. Those individual pages- representing an entire PowerPoint presentation- are then imported into Illustrator, scaled, and placed (duplicated) 3 per page onto a new document (created on the fly). Now here's the problem. When I save this new document (with its three PowerPoint slides) Illustrator expands the landscape page height from 8.5 to 8.8 inches, and then adds a header containing document name and date info.
I don't want this header, but I can't seem to find how to turn it off. There's probably a simple toggle somewhere, an "addHeaderInfo" sort of boolean, but where? Can anyone help me?

Good point. Here's the workflow:
1) Save PowerPoint (PP) presentation as single PDF file. [No marks]
2) Use Acrobat JS to break single PDF into individual PDFs
containing one slide per page.
3) Use Illustrator JS to import three PDF pages, suplicate and scale
them onto a new Illustrator PDF document, and then save that PDF
document.
4) At this point the marks appear (outside the crop line, I might
add) when I open them in Acrobat 8.0 but are not visible when I
re-open the files in Illustrator. So either Illustrator is
suppressing the marks, or Acrobat is adding them. The image at
the URL in my original post is the upper left corner of such
an Acrobat-opened file.
A) When printed, Illustrator does not print the marks nor the extra
page space, but Acrobat does. However...
B) Acrobat's Document-->Header & Footer-->Remove... comes back with,
"No headers found"
So while I haven't ruled out Illustrator, perhaps the problem is in Acrobat. Either way, tho, the questions remain...
What are these marks?
Who put them in?
How do I suppress them?

How to increase border size in Illustrator CS3?

Like the title says, how do you increase the border size in Illustrator CS3? I have a .svg that I've increased the size of, but I can't figure how to get the borders (the four "L" shaped lines) to expand as well.

How to open an Arabic PDF in Illustrator CS3 ME without outlining the font?

Hi,
I need to use Illustrator CS3 ME (Middle East) in order to edit some pages of an Arabic PDF file.
Now, the problem is that as soon as I open the page in Illustrator, all of the Arabic text gets outlined. The English text doesn't get outlined.
I need to edit the text, so this is a big problem.
I don't have the original source files (InDesign).
Also, it is too much editing to be doing in Acrobat.
Is there some sort of solution for this?

The font is Arial, which fully supports Arabic, as far as I know.
How do I enable glyph protection in the prefs?
How do I set the glyph substituion in the type palette? I am sorry for the
ignorance, but I usually work with InDesign, and quite rarely with
Ilustrator. This is a special case for me...
The formatting is very ordinary. Nothing special.
I really hope there is some solution for this....

White Lines on Live Traced Artwork in PDF from Illustrator CS3

Hi, I've recently been using the Live Trace feature in Adobe Illustrator CS3 on my artwork so that my artwork becomes a vector image instead of a raster (I'm told it's better for Web because it works better with varying resolutions - doesn't become pixelated). For my live trace, I use a custom preset: ADJUSTMENTS- Mode: Color Threshold: 128 (grayed out) Palette: Automatic Max Colors: 256 Output to Swatches: OFF Blur: 0 px Resample: 600 px Fills: ON <grayed out> Strokes: OFF (grayed out) TRACE SETTINGS- Max Stroke Weight: 10 px (grayed out) Min Stroke Length: 20 px (grayed out) Path Fitting: 1 px Minimum Area: 1 px Corner Angle: 1 Ignore White: OFF VIEW- Raster: No Image Vector Tracing Result The preview info, located under the dialogue bubble with the i states: Paths: 4894 Anchors: (no number) Colors: 148 Areas: 4822 Image PPI: 200 I don't know if that helps anyone, but that's just the preset I've used to get a sharper, almost fully preserved vector version of my raster image. When I want to convert it to a PDF file using the File > Save As... > Save as type: PDF with the following preset: Adobe PDF Preset: Illustrator Default Standard: None Compatibility: Acrobat 8 (PDF 1.7) Then, my image as viewed in the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional has several white lines, outlining areas of color. Just another little bit of information, the problem is most noticeable in the red area and not the cream/white and yellow areas. When I was working on the original raster image in Photoshop CS3, the cream/white area was done with the Ellipse Tool, using Bevel and Emboss in the Blending Options. The same goes for the yellow area, which was done with the Line Tool. The red area was done manually, with the Brush Tool, Smudge, Blur, Burn, etc. I'm telling you guys just about everything I've done leading up to this issue. But, if there's something you need to know more, I'll try to figure out what I could've possibly done wrong to get this result.

I too get this result when using LiveTrace. My simple solution to this problem was to just place a solid color shape behind that section of the trace where it occurs that is the same color as the trace. Simple...but it worked.

How do I change font style in Illustrator CS3?

I am working on an EPS in CS3 and have three simple lines of text for which I would like to change the font style. How do I do that? I've highlighted the text using Arrow and/or "T" tools, and then selected different font styles from Type>Font...but nothing happens. Any simple suggestions for what I would hope is a simple issue? Scott Falkner, your answer was correct. The letters are outlined, not solid black. A new tool appears that looks like a magic wand, and it does allow me to select the outlined letters. However, font changes have no effect, which makes sense if the program does not recognize these as text any longer.
To answer your subsequent question, in my version of the software, a toolbar appears on the left (likely default, as I have never configured a special setting) that shows a black arrow in the upper left defined in the rollover as "Selection Tool (V)," and the second line below to the right shows a "T" defined as "Type Tool (T)." Those are the two tools I was using to select what I thought was the copy.
