Illustrator CS3 impossible to activate

Hi all,
I'm just buyng an Illustrator CS3 by a fried's company (who has failed), I'll save a lot of money buying an used license and upgrading it
I read a lot about the opportunity to re-buy an old product.
Now i'm trying to activate it but it tell me it's impossible to connect to the servers.
I read that's possible to solve it by phone but no one number it's working.
Seems to be impossible to contact the assistance by email...someone can help me?
Thanks,
Fabio

Fabio,
In connexion with a purchase, there may be two stumbling stones.
If, but only if, the item was registered with Adobe by the former owner, a licence transfer is needed.
You may find out easilyif you go to the chat mentioned earlier, and simply state the serial number and ask whether it is:
A) Registered and
B) Activated.
If it is activated, they should be able to help you deactivate, once you are the registered owner, see below.
Contact Customer Care
For the registration part, you may also go to your Adobe Account and try to register. If you succeed, you are the registered owner. If not, the licence transfer is needed.
But I am afraid the issue is something else.

The softare is installed on a PC, it will only allow 30 day trial unless activated on the net or over the phone. It is failing to activate on both, adobe activation by phone fails and then saysyou cannot speak to an operator about activations and gives a link to this forum.....
    Welcome to Adobe.
    1. This is a User-to-User forum. Lately, it has been treated by "Adobe's Help Desk" as *first* resort if they don't know the answer. Help Desk employees are trained to shun escalating to a higher echelon, and so they try to fix it by sending you elsewhere.
    2. As a User-to-User forum, we cannot help you with activating your software. That's Adobe's problem.
    3. Call back to customer support and *demand* to be helped. Remember, the people you are talking to on the phone are being payed by Adobe to listen to you. It's not as if they have anything better to do.

  • Activate / Deactivate Illustrator CS3 - Volume License

    Hi Guys,
Well to start this topic, I must say I have never received such poor support for software as I have "received" from Adobe Chat Support team..
    The case is as follows;
We have a volume license for Adobe Illustrator CS3 and haven't used it since somwhere before 2010. In 2010 we have moved to another city with our company. Therewith also renewing all hardware for our stylists. For over 5 years we haven't used Illustrator CS3, so we never thought about de-activating the software before getting rid of the old hardware. Since a couple months we have a new manager on the styling department, whom wants to introduce Illustrator again. Since all the stylists will need to be trained again for Illustrator, we'd like to do this in the CS3 version before upgrading to CC or CS6.
So the issue that comes up, is that I cannot activate the software, because the serial number that I've received many years ago, when buying the volume license, has been used too many times. This is because it was never deactivated on the old hardware.
The only option I had was to contact Support via Chat or Phone. Since I like to keep track on what have been said by both parties, I decided to go for the chat option..
If any of the Adobe Staff is reading along, the case number is 0215516123.
In a nutshell; If you have a retail version of a discontinued product with adobe, they can reset the activation count without any problems. If you buy bulk and have volume license, it all comes to this; please upgrade to the latest version.. There is nothing we can do for you..
Here is the complete chat log with 2 employees of Adobe, who are just not willing to help in ANY way.. I must say this really tested my patience and counting to ten skills..
Still looking for a solution tho, so any help is appreciated highly!
    Thanks in advance!

and thats probably because the old computers that we're phased out in 2010 had illustrator cs3 running on them. But since we didn't use it back then, we never thought about deactivating them.. Now the new styling manager wants to start working with Illustrator again, but I have the activation issue.

    07:52:30
    Deepti:
So you are facing issues with CS3 license , right?
    07:52:49
    ME:
yes I could only activate 2 of the 11
    07:53:58
    Deepti:
I  would have loved  to help you in getting these license activated however, we are not supporting CS3 anymore. This is a very old version of Creative suite that you have.
    07:55:44
    ME:
I know that, but it is a license we paid for and still are i title to use according to the license rights.. And as I said, we have the intention to upgrade them this year to the latest CC or CS6 version. But we need to start somewhere again and still have these licenses. I work for 3 companies in the group I work for. And 2 of them have all of the latest versions available. This company is a little behind on things, but we do need your help to get further..
    08:03:06
    Deepti:
I would have helped if it would  have been cs6 or CC. This is an obsolete product and we are not supporting it anymore. You can refer to forums.
    08:03:46
    ME:
How will the forums help me on activating licenses.. I'm not asking for product support, I'm asking for license activation support, for licenses that we have paid for!
    08:04:53
    ME:
Clearly it is only some reset button you have to use to empty out the registration/activations from before 2010.
    08:05:33
    ME:
To show we are trying to keep up to date with licenses and latest versions you can see the volume licenses registered to
    08:06:05
    ME:
I really don't understand the mindset where you don't help out a paying customer
    08:06:22
    Deepti:
I am sorry but we don't have any reset button for volume licenses.
    08:07:23
    ME:
It was ment figurely.. There must be something you can do to help? I get the feeling that the support you are "giving" only means getting customers to pay more for the latest versions.
    08:07:50
    ME:
which as said we will upgrade somewhere this year.. But my stylists need training first
    08:08:03
    ME:
Hence thats what we need to activate them for right now
    08:08:52
    ME:
We paid for the license and are in title to use them.. But you are blocking that right now..
    08:09:09
    ME:
    Which is totally outrageous
    08:11:33
    Deepti:
Yes you are entitled to use them. You have the serial key. You can install the product and use it till the time you want. It's just that Adobe has stopped providing support for obsolete versions.
    08:12:49
    ME:
I understand, but since I cannot activate them over the internet It only works for 30 days... The connection is fine, the serial is volume licensing.. But adobe says no sorry cannot activate because of too many activations.. And I only used 2 out of 11.. So please provide me a solution!
    08:22:05
    Deepti:
I am so sorry but there is nothing that I can do . I mean I don't have any deactivation button that I could use to deactivate the license for you.
    08:23:22
    ME:
So what happens when a customer has CS6 and the hardware was disposed of, on which CS6 was installed and wasn't deactivated? He buys new hardware and has the same problem as I currently have.. What do you tell that customer? I'm sorry there is nothing we can do for you? I really doubt that..
    08:30:23
    Deepti:
CS6 version is  still in the support boundary hence, if there is any activation issue that you are facing with CS6 , we would be supporting you for that.
    08:31:38
    ME:
Wow.. I have never ever experienced such poor support for software as I have today with you from Adobe.. This is really dissapointing, especially if you spend that much money on licenses to be compliant..
    08:32:26
    ME:
So please tell me, what options do I have to make this work?
    08:51:01
    ME:
It would be appreciated if you can answer my question?
    08:59:50
    Deepti:
I am sorry but this is out of support boundary. You can refer to the forums , I am sure you will find some information related to the activation queries.
    09:01:22
    ME:
I am reading on the support forums that support of adobe needs to clear the current activations..
    09:01:34
    ME:
Only you @ adobe can do that
    09:02:28
    ME:
You should be able to tell me how many activations of the CS3 illustrator are currently done in the licensing portal

    09:06:05

    09:10:15
    Deepti:
I would have not kept you waiting for so long if I would have the option to deactivate your license key.
    09:11:09
    ME:
Then how come Jeff A Wright (your collegue) refers to this in every post he makes on the forums regarding activation/deactivation reset count settings..?!
    09:12:23
    Deepti:
    That is for retail licenses.
    09:13:00
    ME:
Wow, so as a customer who buys bulk there is no solution?
    09:14:23
    Deepti:
There is no such problem that the Volume license customers face.
    09:21:26

  • Creating Hi Res PDF files from Illustrator CS3 with overprints

I am trying to create a hi res PDF of an Illustrator CS3 file which has overprints included. I am creating the PDF through Acrobat 9. Once created the visual on screen does not maintain the overprint. I know that I can view the overprint in Acrobat 9 by going to Advanced-print production-output preview. Is there any way of saving this preview so it automatically activates when the PDF is opened?
I have opened the PDF in Acrobat 7 and this has a tick option next to overprint preview which stays activated. Does 9 have this anywhere?

There is a setting for overprint displays in the preferences of Acrobat 9. It's in the Page Display section, under "Page Content and Information". The options are: 1) Only for PDF/X files (which is the default setting); 2) Never; 3) Always; and 4) Automatic. I would recommend changing this to Automatic, which examines the file to see if there's any content that needs overprint preview on to display correctly.
These settings are also available in Adobe Reader 9.
You cannot save the view with the file so that it always displays with overprint (since this might require that it make a change to the user's preferences if they aren't set up to display it).  But the overprints are there and ready to be displayed if the application is set up to display them.
Is this what you were looking for?

  • Illustrator CS3 crashes after Yosemite upgrade

I have just upgraded to Yosemite on my 2010 Mac book pro.  Everything seems to be running ok, slightly slower but ok, the main issue I have is that Adobe Illustrator CS3 has stopped working.  The rest of the Adobe creative suite works fine - Photoshop, Indesign etc but not illustrator. When I first launched the app after the upgrade I was asked to install a Java upgrade which I did, I then re-launched Illustrator, and it tried to update, but a message came up stating - could not connect to internet...no internet connection, the initialising window opened and looked like it was going to work but it froze and I had to force quit.  Now it doesn't get passed the initialising window and just doesn't open.  I have cleaned the font cache and I have started my Mac in safe mode, illustrator works in this mode, but when I start up again as normal it still doesn't work there.  I have tried to find the preference file in users so I can delete it but I can't find this file and not really sure if this is what I need to do to get it working anyway!  I have reinstalled the Java update but this has not helped.  Sadly I don't have the installation discs so am unable to uninstall and then re-install the Adobe Suite.  If anyone can give me help I would be very grateful!  Just now I am very frustrated and wish I had never upgraded! Thanks in advance, and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Found a solution and posted it here: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1610653?sr=stream
I also had problems with Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Yosemite. After the upgrade I installed Java for OS X 2014-001, as suggested by others. This seemed to work (sometimes) but when I opened Illustrator for the 2nd time it failed to open. Illustrator opened without crashing, but it did not show any menus, if I opened an .ai file the file did load and show on the screen, but I could not click on the window (unresponsive). Essentially this made Illustrator useless. I tried the following:
    Re-installation
Install Java for OS X 2014-001
    Cleaning font cache
    Checking permissions
Installing other versions of Java (both JRE and JDK)
Nothing seemed to help. Until finally 15 minutes ago I found the solution by accident:
    Open System Preferences > Java
Wait for the Java Control Panel to load
Open Adobe Illustrator (while keeping the Java Control Panel window open)
You can also make a launcher with AppleScript to automate the process:
    tell application "System Preferences"
        activate
set current pane to pane "Java"
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
repeat until exists process "Java Control Panel"
            delay 1
        end repeat
        quit
    end tell
    delay 2
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
        activate
    end tell
tell application "System Preferences" to close every window
    do shell script "killall java"

  • Running Illustrator CS3 on Portable Hard Drive

I would like to run Illustrator CS3 (Windows) on a portable hard drive that can connect to different machines (so that I can work from home, go to friend's computer, etc). I've been able to do this with InDesign CS2 but it gives me an error message when I try it with Illustrator.
How can I get all of Illustrator to install on my portable hard drive?

Real-world example of what I mean by Adobe continually PUNISHING its most loyal repeat customers with its INFURIATING installation/registration/activation NONSENSE:
    1. Last weekend, on this machine, I started seeing errors about AdobeFntLst. The errors instructed me to run chkDsk. I finished my work and shut down the machine.
    2. At the next restart, Windows automatically launched chkDsk. I let it run its course. It automatically restarted the machine.
    3. Blue screen. Could not get the computer to run, no matter what.
    4. Formatted the C drive. Reinstalled Windows. Installed all Windows updates. Now have a clean and crisp running fresh install of Windows XP Professional.
    5. Deep breath. Ready to install the hideous CS3 Master Collection.
    This is a
very time-consuming install, so I have put it off until today (Saturday morning).
Insert the first DVD. Installer launches. Click install. Agree the license. Get the serial number screen.
Can't type the serial number. Think my keyboard is broken. But it works fine in other apps.
No explanation of this stupid behavior whatsoever is offered by the stupid installer, but I know what's going on: The stupid installer is looking for a copy of a CS app, because the Master Collection was bought as an upgrade from CS2 Premium--which was bought as an upgrade from CS Premium.
So I won't be able to install CS2 Premium either. I'll have to install CS Premium. Then CS2 Premium. Then the stupid CS3 Master Collection installer will let me type a serial number.
Or, I could (assumedly) install the CS3 Master Collection as a demo, hoping I can activate it after. But that disallows installation of some of the content on the disks. Do I want to do the version shuffle, and risk all the dangers of all the associated installers? Or do I want to install the CS3 Master Collection as a trial, hoping that I can then register and activate it, and then weed through the disks trying to find all the content that was disallowed?
How much of my money has Adobe acquired since I've been using its apps (dating back to Photoshop 1)?
Does ANY paying customer deserve this kind of abuse?

  • Illustrator CS3 crash on start-up

    Hi everyone!
I've got this really weird problem. I was using Illustrator CS3 on my old PC which was Sempron 2300+, 512 RAM, 80 GB HDD, 64 MB Video and it was running fine, although it's obvious there weren't enough resources for it to work properly. Now I've got this laptop: Acer Aspire 5720Z-4662 with Intel Pentium dual-core processor T3210 (1.43 Ghz), 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 120 GB HDD and 384 MB Video, which is much better than my old PC, so it means it should definitely work better. Well, it's not! It's not even loading. I've installed it, the same version as on the PC, I enter the serial number and the activation code i got and it just crashes - i get this stupid unknown error from windows. I've must have reinstalled it 10 times by now and it's still the same thing. I've got Windows XP with SP2 and the latest updates, but i don't know if that matters.
There is one thing though - this Acer laptop does not support Windows XP, it comes with Windows Vista and it's almost impossible to find all the drivers for Windows XP and make them work. After one week of intense work I managed to do it. Everything was working fine and now that i've installed Illustator it's welcome back frustration and desperation! I've got a suspicion that Illustrator ain't working because of this forced change from Vista to XP, but I've also got Photoshop CS3 Extended and it's working perfectly.
I would REALLY REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me how to fix that, because I really need it now that I've got myself a job with designing in vectors.
Thanks for you're time and have a nice day!

    Hi All-
I'm using Illy CS3 on Windows Vista. Everything was working fine 'til Monday morning, when Illy stopped saving my files (not responding). At first I thought it was a corrupt file. After much time and effort I discovered it was all files. Then I found these forums and after 2 days of trouble shooting, I at least know my way around a PC better! On one of the forums someone suggested trying a different user name, Illy will work when I so this, but not under my user name.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    So far I have:
trashed my pref. folder (more than a few times)
uninstalled/reinstalled Adobe creative Suite 3 (one time)
Checked/started/restarted the print spool (a couple of times)
and have renamed Version Cue to Old Version Cue (twice-before and after installation)
    Please help if you can.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • Unknown error (-108) when i run illustrator CS3

    Hi all
Every time I run Illustrator CS3, this msg appears:
"An unknown error has occurred (-108), Adobe Illustrator will now quit"
    then illustrator quits
i got the same error even after re-installing
my friend has exact error, so he installed it on different PC and it worked
NOTE: some people say that this is a low RAM error, but my CPU is 0% and RAM is 1Gb, so it is impossible that this is a memory error
I have Photoshop CS3, Flash CS3, Dreamweaver CS3, Fireworks CS3, Bridge CS3, Device Central CS3, and some other adobe products, all work properly, i never got this error with them
    Help me please
    Thank you

    Hi Jacob,
I have the same problem so tried your suggestion, but although Illustrator goes through the whole opening up sequence of loading items, once it's done that nothing else appears, the program just disappears.
Do you have any idea why this is happening?

  • Cannot install trial PS CS3 : "Please insert Illustrator CS3 to continue installation"

    Hi,
For school I need the Flash CS3, Illustrator CS3 and Photoshop CS3 software,
My teacher said it was convenient to DOWNLOAD and install the trial-software this weekend, so we can start the lessons properly on monday. Next week we will receive the keys to activate the software.
Now I have installed Flash and Illustrator, but when I try to install the Photoshop software, I get this :
    http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/1808/afbeelding1yd5.png
The setup asks to insert the Illustrator CS3, but I don't have this because I downloaded the trial-software from the Adobe website..
Can anyone tell me what to do?
    Thanks!
    Mattias

    Mattias,
First, I've never done trial downloads of any CS3 content. But there is no reason why a standalone version of Photoshop should be dependent upon installation of another Adobe application. Sounds like something is scrambled here.
But, something else comes to mind. What kind of licensing is this? Where is your teacher getting activation keys for the software?

  • Saving an Illustrator CS3 file to CS2?

How can I save an Illustrator CS3 EPS file so that a CS2 user can open it? If so, how is this accomplished?
    Thanks,
    Kelly

If you Save As, hen click Save, you will be presented with a second dialogue asking for version number. Select CS2 or earlier and the file can be edited in CS2. Some effects and appearances might not survive the translation or will require flattening, which makes them harder or impossible to edit.
Your colleague might also be Placing the EPS rather than opening it.

  • Save a copy - Illustrator CS3

I have been fumbling around to create a script that will create a pdf file from an Illustrator CS3 file. I have the References for both Applescript and Javascript and am comfortable with the Save pdf options in either scripting format. But I would like the script to save the pdf while leaving the current document in Illustrator CS3 native format open for editing.
    Much appreciation for any suggestions.
    Thank You

    Thank You Tom,
I was only coming up with solutions that felt clumsy. I settled on 2 similar applescript approaches.
One works on an open document:
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
set openDoc to file path of current document as alias
    end tell
    tell application "Finder"
set theFile to (openDoc as text)
set theFileCopy to text 1 thru -3 of theFile
do shell script "cp -pr " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFile & " " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFileCopy & "pdf"
set theCopy to theFileCopy & "pdf"
    end tell
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    activate
    open theCopy as alias
save the current document as pdf with options {class:PDF save options ¬
    , compatibility:Acrobat 5 ¬
    , preserve editability:false, view pdf:true}
    close current document saving no
    end tell
The other works on a selected file in the finder:
    tell application "Finder"
    copy selection to theSelected
set theFile to (theSelected as text)
set theFileCopy to text 1 thru -3 of theFile
do shell script "cp -pr " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFile & " " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFileCopy & "pdf"
set theCopy to theFileCopy & "pdf"
    end tell
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    activate
    open theCopy as alias
save the current document as pdf with options {class:PDF save options ¬
    , compatibility:Acrobat 5 ¬
    , preserve editability:false, view pdf:true}
    close current document saving no
    end tell
Both seem to get the job done. But they just don't feel very slick.
Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.
    Thank You

  • Batch won't run unless Illustrator CS3 is active window?

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this as it's driving me nuts. Basically I'm trying to batch an action I made in CS3 to run on about 700 illustrator files.
Everything runs just fine and dandy until I switch from Illustrator to another program (Firefox, photoshop, bridge, anything other than illustrator), once illustrator is no longer the active window, the batch process stops. When I make illustrator the active window again, the batch starts again. This worked perfect in CS2 and I never had this problem until CS3.
This is a huge pain as I can't work on anything else while keeping the batch running in the background.
    Here's the nitty gritty details:
XP SP2, Illustrator CS3, smoking fast machine
Action was created in actions palette to do the following:
Unlock All > Select All > Create Outlines > Convert to Grayscale
Ran the batch via the actions palette, choose "Save and Close" and "log errors to a file".
I've restarted Illustrator, restarted the machine, recreated the action, broke the folder into smaller folders with less files. It's making my Tuesday feel like a Monday.
I've search all over and found nothing. There was one post here on the adobe forums, but it was from October and it never got answered. If you have a solution you will be my hero!
    Thanks!

Yes, I have absolutely seen this! At our office we batch process Illustrator files to JPEG very frequently, and it's a huge nuisance to have Illustrator block the system during the batch processing. Everyone here is on XP SP2 as well, and we all have this issue. In fact, trying to switch in and out of Illustrator while it's batching can cause the application to crash fairly regularly for us.
I can confirm that the Mac version of Illustrator CS3 does *not* have this problem, as I am batch-exporting right now with Illustrator in the background on my Mac. (Mac OS X 10.5.2, Illy 13.0.2)
A fix for this would be most appreciated, Adobe!

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3: Fatal error during installation

    Hello,
I just bought the AI CS3. It installed OK on my friend's laptop (windows). However, when I clicked the big button in the installation:
    "Install Adobe Illustrator CS3"
    A window showed:
    Initializing Adobe Illustrator...
    Then I got a message:
"Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe customer Support for assistance. Fatal error during installation".
I've tried several times. My computer meets all the requirements (it's a really new and faster PC). And there's no old versions of AI on it yet.
    Can anyone help? Thanks!!!

Do you have any other Adobe products on your computer? When I installed CS3 on my Mac, I kept getting failures. After contacting Adobe, they told me I had to delete ALL other Adobe products -- including Flash and Adobe Reader. Plus, I had to do searches and delete any support files associated with them. It took hours!

  • Snow Leopard prints pdf in other colors than the Illustrator CS3 design

2 days ago I installed Snow Leopard. Yesterday I tried to print an Adobe Illustrator CS3 document that I made into a PDF. My logo which is gradient aqua and yellow prints grey, black and red. It appears fine on the screen and prints fine as an AI document. I emailed the document to my husband as a PDF and he also just installed Snow Leopard. The email pdf shows the proper colors but it prints in the same weird grey, black, red for him as well. All our old documents from years back which have my logo print in this wrong color combo. I spoke to Apple today and I printed a random Safari photo doc ( a zedonk, zebra donkey, check her out)! saved as a PDF in the proper color combo. We installed a graphics update for Illustrator but no resolution. It appears the problem might be the pdf file sent through Snow Leopard can't read the colors. Help!

Try printing the PDF with Adobe Reader
