Illustrator cs3 in cs2

Hi,
I m new to illustrators. Is it possible to create a plugin/template in Illustrator cs2(xcode)? Or can we build and run the sample code from illustrator cs3 in illustrator cs2? Is this possible?

Check the support pages for the Adobe Stock Photos removal tool. Certainly something to do with that being not properly configured on your system. Also consider using the CS4 Clean Utility before installing DW to unregister all install packages of the other Adobe apps from your Windows installer database.

Saving an Illustrator CS3 file to CS2?

How can I save an Illustrator CS3 EPS file so that a CS2 user can open it? If so, how is this accomplished?

If you Save As, hen click Save, you will be presented with a second dialogue asking for version number. Select CS2 or earlier and the file can be edited in CS2. Some effects and appearances might not survive the translation or will require flattening, which makes them harder or impossible to edit.
Your colleague might also be Placing the EPS rather than opening it.

Exporting Illustrator CS3 files to Illustrator CS2

Can anyone tell me how I can "downsave" an Illustrator CS3 .eps file to be able to open it in Illustrator CS2? Thanks.

You need to Save the CS3 file as a legacy version.
Choose Save As, give it a name, click Save. On the next screen, choose CS2 from the drop down list at the top.

Batch won't run unless Illustrator CS3 is active window?

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this as it's driving me nuts. Basically I'm trying to batch an action I made in CS3 to run on about 700 illustrator files.
Everything runs just fine and dandy until I switch from Illustrator to another program (Firefox, photoshop, bridge, anything other than illustrator), once illustrator is no longer the active window, the batch process stops. When I make illustrator the active window again, the batch starts again. This worked perfect in CS2 and I never had this problem until CS3.
This is a huge pain as I can't work on anything else while keeping the batch running in the background.
Here's the nitty gritty details:
XP SP2, Illustrator CS3, smoking fast machine
Action was created in actions palette to do the following:
Unlock All > Select All > Create Outlines > Convert to Grayscale
Ran the batch via the actions palette, choose "Save and Close" and "log errors to a file".
I've restarted Illustrator, restarted the machine, recreated the action, broke the folder into smaller folders with less files. It's making my Tuesday feel like a Monday.
I've search all over and found nothing. There was one post here on the adobe forums, but it was from October and it never got answered. If you have a solution you will be my hero!

Yes, I have absolutely seen this! At our office we batch process Illustrator files to JPEG very frequently, and it's a huge nuisance to have Illustrator block the system during the batch processing. Everyone here is on XP SP2 as well, and we all have this issue. In fact, trying to switch in and out of Illustrator while it's batching can cause the application to crash fairly regularly for us.
I can confirm that the Mac version of Illustrator CS3 does *not* have this problem, as I am batch-exporting right now with Illustrator in the background on my Mac. (Mac OS X 10.5.2, Illy 13.0.2)
A fix for this would be most appreciated, Adobe!

Copying objects from Illustrator CS3 to FreeHand 11.0.2

Working on a Mac in OSX 10.4.11, I was able to select and copy objects in an open Illustrator CS2 file and paste them into an open FreeHand 11.0.2 file, where they would be fully editable. After migrating to OSX 10.6.2 and upgrading to CS3, this no longer works - the objects selected and copied from Illustrator either do not appear (only corner indicators are visible) or a pale version appears as an uneditable low-rez image with funny colors....
Because there are so many missing features in Illustrator, it's important for me to be able to work back and forth between the two apps. Has anyone been able to achieve this (formerly) simple interactivity?

Illustrator CS3 will not open! Please help!!

I've been using illustrator CS3 all day (no problems since I installed upon purchase over a year ago) and this afternoon illustrator crashed. i tried to open it again and nothing. it brings me to the illustrator screen saying "initializing" and then nothing. the icon stops bouncing and my hard drive races like it's about to explode. i've done every fix that's out there (including the version cue update fix), ran Tech Tool Pro, repaired my permissions in the disc utility, made sure everything is up to date, cleared all caches and still nothing. i've deleted over 5 gigs of stuff from my hard drive to make more space for Illustrator and am now running with 30 gigs free. still nothing. illustrator starts up in the dock, the CS3 screen comes up, gets to "initializing" and then the icon stops bouncing in the dock and the hard drive races. i'm at my wits end. can anyone help?

Weird the EXACT same thing has just happened to me. Funny I did almost the exact same things you did before looking up in this forum. Have uninstalled and then Reinstalled. My Photoshop works but also discovered my Indesign doesn't work. I never installed the Version Cue thing because I had problems with that in CS2. Other things seem to be running really slow, I use a great spam program called spam sieve that has also been crashing. My Leopard boot disc won't read for some reason so am going to try to reinstall system files tomorrow once I can borrow a friends disc. Did you ever get it back working? what did you do.

Gradient with stroke problem Illustrator CS3

We make a gradient object in Illustrator CS3 and give it a stroke which is centered. Then we rotate the object and the gradient rotates with the object.
But then when we put the stroke alignment to inside or outside the gradient fails. It shows the gradient in the original 0-position instead of the angle we have created. When we put the stroke alignment back to center the gradient shows as we meant it to show again.
When stroke alignment is on outside or inside before we rotate the object it shows the same problem.
But when I copy an object from CS2 with an angled gradient and a inside or outside aligned stroke. The problem isn't there. When we start copying the object within CS3 the problem shows again (not when I use alt-key to copy, but with ctrl+c and then ctrl+v, ctrl+f or ctrl+b).
Illustrator CS2 didn't have this problem. But now in CS3 we have it. I used to have this same problem in old versions from Macromedia Flash. But I never had it with Illustrator.
Is this a bug or do we need to handle our gradients in a different way when using Illustrator CS3?

It's a memory issue. If you scale your artwork down (say, to 50%), then save, it should work (it can be scaled up in the page layout software). If you're using raster effects you'll have to make sure they scale as well and that your raster effects resolution is appropriate for the final output size.

Stroke issues Illustrator CS3

Hello,
When i give outlined text in illustrator CS3 a stroke of 0,1pt it seems like
the stroke is put on in an angle (like its done with a brush)
Expanding the stroke makes the problem even clearer.
This problem seems to become less when i boost the stroke to 0,15pt.
Opening the same document in CS2 gives no problems at all.. the stroke works as it should do.
Any ideas on this?

Running Illustrator CS3 on Portable Hard Drive

I would like to run Illustrator CS3 (Windows) on a portable hard drive that can connect to different machines (so that I can work from home, go to friend's computer, etc). I've been able to do this with InDesign CS2 but it gives me an error message when I try it with Illustrator.
How can I get all of Illustrator to install on my portable hard drive?

Real-world example of what I mean by Adobe continually PUNISHING its most loyal repeat customers with its INFURIATING installation/registration/activation NONSENSE:
1. Last weekend, on this machine, I started seeing errors about AdobeFntLst. The errors instructed me to run chkDsk. I finished my work and shut down the machine.
2. At the next restart, Windows automatically launched chkDsk. I let it run its course. It automatically restarted the machine.
3. Blue screen. Could not get the computer to run, no matter what.
4. Formatted the C drive. Reinstalled Windows. Installed all Windows updates. Now have a clean and crisp running fresh install of Windows XP Professional.
5. Deep breath. Ready to install the hideous CS3 Master Collection.
This is a
very time-consuming install, so I have put it off until today (Saturday morning).
Insert the first DVD. Installer launches. Click install. Agree the license. Get the serial number screen.
Can't type the serial number. Think my keyboard is broken. But it works fine in other apps.
No explanation of this stupid behavior whatsoever is offered by the stupid installer, but I know what's going on: The stupid installer is looking for a copy of a CS app, because the Master Collection was bought as an upgrade from CS2 Premium--which was bought as an upgrade from CS Premium.
So I won't be able to install CS2 Premium either. I'll have to install CS Premium. Then CS2 Premium. Then the stupid CS3 Master Collection installer will let me type a serial number.
Or, I could (assumedly) install the CS3 Master Collection as a demo, hoping I can activate it after. But that disallows installation of some of the content on the disks. Do I want to do the version shuffle, and risk all the dangers of all the associated installers? Or do I want to install the CS3 Master Collection as a trial, hoping that I can then register and activate it, and then weed through the disks trying to find all the content that was disallowed?
How much of my money has Adobe acquired since I've been using its apps (dating back to Photoshop 1)?
Does ANY paying customer deserve this kind of abuse?

Illustrator CS3 install error

Hello, I'm away from home and brought my Illustrator CS3 box with me to install on a laptop gifted to me to try and get me working again. My old (and I mean OLD) desktop computer at home hasn't run for over 6 months. (Had installed Illustrator CS3 on that back in 2008).
Anyway, this computer is running Windows 7. When I tried to Install Illustrator CS3 on it, I got an "Installer Databale Corrupt" error message.Tried searching the Internet and seens some comments about people having to either delete certain shared files, or reinstall all their Adobe prodects. Here is my problem. I have my Photoshot CS installed okay. But I don't have the box with me with the install discs. I am using PS regularly at the moment and don't want to risk loosing that. It would be really nice to have Illustrator CS3 up and running, but not as critical as PS-CS.
I am able to access the Interenet only a public libraries and fast food (usually McDs or BK)
Any help would be welcome. Please, no "sucks to be you" replies. (Yes, I've gotten those.) And please no "just upgrade to the latest and greatest" messages. No can do with my current situation. Not working at the present. Lost my PT job end of 2012. I might have the opportunity to do some paying graphic design work, and having Illustrator up and running would be nice.

You can delete the caps.de in the caps folder. This does not affect the installed software, as it's really only used for installs. For PS you could simply use the "free" CS2 downloads that are causing so much buzz lately.

How do I stop Illustrator CS3 from continually stealing file associations?

Since moving from CS2 to CS3 I've been plagued with a file association problem. Every time I run Illustrator CS3, it steals the file association for .FLT files (this didn't happen in CS2). .FLT files don't appear in the Bridge so I can't do anything about it there. Problem is that .FLT files have been around since 1990 and are used by a 3D modelling package. Now Illustrator keeps trampling the file association and I can't figure out how to stop it. The .FLT files I've used for the past two decades are NOT Illustrator filters.
Anyone got any bright ideas? At the moment I have a registry hack sitting on my desktop that I have to run each time I close Illustrator.

Ok here's the solution to this.
It turns out that Illustrator deletes and resets the .flt file extension key and the Adobe.Illustrator.Filter key every time it is run. Removing registry permissions for system didn't work, neither did removing them for owner/creator.
It seems that the change happens as "me" - the person logged on. As I'm an administrator anyway, I was able to remove all rights for every user (including me) except administrators, and then change the administrator rights to allow everything except set and delete.
So the .flt file extension key is essentially locked down completely now, and the problem is solved. However as the owner of the key I can still get in and change the set/delete flags if I ever need to change it again.

Can't open SVG (CS3) in CS2.

I can't open an SVG file in Illustrator CS2. The SVG file was made in CS3 (checkbox ticed for compability with CS2). I'm running XP. This is the steps I've done.
1. Graphic created in Illustrator CS2, and saved as EPS-file.
2. EPS-file opened in Illustrator CS3 and saved as SVG-file.
3. Graphic (SVG) uploaded into Astoria Content Management System (CMS).
4. Later, graphic (SVG) is exported from Astoria CMS for updating.
5. SVG-file cannot be re-opened for editing in CS2

When the file was saved to SVG from CS3, Preserved Illustrator Editing Capabilities was selected. Either save your files using CS2, or deselect that option when saving from CS3.

Problema con psd's de capas colocados en illustrator cs3

Cuando coloco en illustrator cs3 3 ó 4 archivos psd con capas de peso desde 40MB a 200MB llega un momento que o no me deja previsualizar en color o se me cierra el programa inseperadamente. Trabajo en un mac G5 intel de última generación con 8GBde ram y con pantalla de 30" con 512MB de memoria de video. ¿A alguien le sucede esto?. Además los archivos que tengo hechos con cs2 y con psd"s con estas características colocados funcionan bien en cs2 pero cuando lo abro en cs3 no previsualiza ni imprime bien las transparencias (archivos psd con fondo transparente que no genera bien la transparencia). Espero vuestra ayuda. Gracias!!!

Xacir, creo que esta usando un MacIntel, aunque incluye ambos términos en su correo. Yo tampoco tengo tanta máquina.

Otras cosas que se me ocurren son consultar con soporte técnico.
Sin que sirva de excusa, ya que esos archivos se abren en CS2, qué contienen esos PSD's para que ocupen tantos Mbs? Probaré entonces a replicar tu experiencia.
Alguna razón para colocar archivos con varias capas?
Lo digo por que a lo mejor en futuros proyectos lo que se pueda hacer en Illustrator (texto?) se haga aquí y si se utilizan varias capas de imagenes en Photoshop pero no se van a alterar en Illustrator, podríamos guardar una copia acoplada del original para su uso en Illustrator, quizás no sea tan sencillo.
