Illustrator CS3 on Windows- Freezing Issue

I have Illustrator CS3 on my dell computer and I am having issues with it freezing frequently. Most of the time it happens while saving but it also happens at other annoying times. Typically the program will have to Quit Unexpectedly, causing any unsaved work to be deleted. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

So I like several others have been fighting the on going battle of Saving issues as well as Exiting AI errors. I have searched for several days now (which is ridiculous). I have searched in Forums from Adobe.com to Chase.com. I have seen answers, from not exiting using the X in the top right, to deleting the pref. folder.
I have even tried all of the tips and suggestions. So you want to know what works...Well here is what I have done to get my AI to work well for now. Tomorrow it may be hanging up all over again.
* In AI>Edit>Preferences>File Handling and Clipboard> Uncheck All of the below:
Enable Version Cue, Copy As: PDF and AICB(no transparency support)
* Unmaximize the window size.
* File>Print>Printer:Adobe PDF as default.
* Reboot!
Adobe needs to fix this issue and SOON!

  • Illustrator CS3 for Windows upon launch crashes

    Recently, bought an Apple iMac, installed Parallels virtual machine and installed my Windows XP Professional and installed my CS3 Premium. Every program works except Illustrator. It crashes every time I launch it getting the error message..."sorry for the inconvenience...'' and asks to send an error report. I have uninstalled and reinstalled every possible way, downloaded all the updates, and fixed the registry, repeatly and every time it fails.
    I have been using CS3 on my HP laptop every since I got it and never had issues. My brother seems to think that my installation disk is scratched and messes up the download. So, basically, it somehow got scratched when I put it on my mac. Could this be an issue or is this something else?

    Hello Again:
    To follow up on my last post.. I had a real bad time with my computer most recently and had to recover it. Since I had a fresh install, I went with service pack 3. I use Windows XP.
    I did install Web Developer Premium CS3, but left out Acrobat Professional. I also decided to go with the default mouse driver for Win XP. In Illustrator I turned off the save to clip board upon exit feature.
    Now for the longest time, no matter how much I use Illustrator, I am not having any problems on exit. I am not exactly sure why other than I have a fresh install of my OS.
    Also: It has been mentioned in other threads that Acrobat was the problem or the mouse driver was the problem or settings in preferences, or even the start up definition file (which I trashed and Illustrator reset it on start.)
    So now I am happy to have Illustrator CS3 working well.
    Thought I should repost.. thanks,
    Michael R.

  • Trying to install Illustrator CS3 on Windows 8.1 and get error message-installer database is corrupt

    When I try to install Illustrator CS3 on a windows 8.1 machine and get the following error message. " Installer database is corrupt". Have tried rebooting computer etc. and still the same problem, any suggestions?

    BrianDany I am sorry you are facing difficulties installing Creative Suite 3 under Windows 8.1.  Windows 8.1 was not available during the time period which Creative Suite 3 was developed and the last updates released.
    I would recommend reviewing your PDApp.log and possibly AMT3lib.log file for error messages which are preventing the installation.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the log files at Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4.  You are welcome to post any specific error messages which you discover to this discussion.

  • Illustrator CS3 Save as Postscript Issue

    Utilizing Illustrator CS3 on Mac OSX Tiger -
    Unable to output Postscript file. Getting the following error message: "The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer dialog are not supported."
    However, we are able to output Postscript from same computer in Illustrator CS2 without issue. Note that in CS3 it is also prompting to re-enter the file name when saving but not in CS2.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks!!

    Are you trying to "Print" to a Postscript File?
    For "Printer" choose "Adobe Postscript" and for PPD choose "AdobePDF"

  • Problems illustrator cs3 on windows 7 64bit

    I've got a problem with my new computer, its a new hp workstation with windows 7 64 bit. Illustrator cs3 uses just a smal part of my virtual memory and is not stable. When i try to export to psd or jpeg it runs out of memory. My computer got a quad-core processor with more then 6 gb installed RAM.
    Is there a way to avoid or to cure this problem?

    Of no relevance whatsoever. As a mostly single-threaded 32bit app, AI doesn't care for any such things. assuming, bloat features would not get in the way, you could probably run it on a 10 year old machine and get the same performance. Anyway, CS3 is not safe on Win 7, even more so the 64bit version, so this is probably all that needs saying. You can toy around with compatibility modes and all that, but whether this will help you in any way, is anybody's guess. so at the risk of sounding like big red A's marketing department, giving the CS4 trial a spin and then upgrading might be worth your time and money...

  • Dreamweaver CS3 and Windows 8 Issues

    I have Dreamwever CS3 and Windows 8 and I keep getting errors that can only be resolved by closing down DW and losing the work I have processed so far. I happens mostly when I use extentions such as Webassaist Data Bridge. I have visited their forum but they advised me to checkout you trouble shooting service.
    Please advise

    Hi,
    If Dreamweaver is working fine without the extensions, I am not sure if we should be troubleshooting Dreamweaver. Just to be sure, Windows 8 is not a supported version for Dreamweaver CS3. It could possibly work, but wouldn't have been tested on Windows 8 as Adobe supports only the previous two versions of any software.
    This is my best answer. You could wait for other experts for their opinion.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3 on Windows XP Pro

    Please Help! When I open Illustrator it works beautifully and does computer with other processes. When I try to save my work either with save or save as Illustrator freezes. other programs continue to work. can only close Illustrator by manual shut-down of entire computer. Please help - anyone
    Thanks,

    A little late on the discussion but here's how to solve this issue (for those still having it and for those that will eventually run into it):
    Go to My Computer - Control Panel - Regional and Language Options. On the Languages tab, click on Details - Key Settings - Change Key Combination (or something like that, my OS is not in English) and uncheck both boxes. You'll notice that the key combination set is one that we tend to use quite a lot in Illustrator...

  • Eclipse 1.3.2 window freezes issue, wrong IDE for win 7 or bad config?

    Hi everyone, this is my first thread on this forum...well this is my first thread ever.
    I wasn't sure where to post my question, but since it is veeeery noobish, I'm posting it here instead of the obscure 'other' development section.
    I installed the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers the other day version 1.3.2 for my OS which is Windows 7 x86.
    I installed the Java SE development kit 6 and had already the Java 6 runtime thingy installed way before I even considered studying computer science.
    The problem is that when I run the code below the Java popup window appears.....but it won't close if I click on the 'x' to close it :/
    Anyone knows the cause to this problem? It would save me a lot of time and mental sanity, I've been fighting with it for some time now.
    Thanks in advance.
    import java.awt.Frame;
    import java.awt.Label;
    public class howdy_window extends Frame {
         public static void main(String arg[]){
              new howdy_window();
    howdy_window() {
          Label label;
          label = new Label("Fuck you!");
          add(label);
          pack();
          setVisible(true);
    }

    Nevermind gimbal2, the issue has been solved and I've had some time on my hands to figure out that the IDE wasn't giving me those problems in other istances other than the one I presented in this thread, it was the code itself :/
    Now I'm more aware and have started ignoring the feeling of helplessness of trying to learn a OOP language with such huuuuuge resources and APIs..The trick is to learn how to find answers. A forum shouldn't be your first visit, your brain is. Try to reason why you are getting certain errors or why something isn't working. If you get an error, copy/paste the part that is not specific to you into Google and see what you get. Mostly the error you get is the result of something else blowing up, look further and see if maybe something else was not working either.
    Sometimes you have to deeper. I have had occasions where I needed to download the source code of an API so that I could step through it in debugging mode. That in itself is for me a very good reason to stick with open source stuff only; debugging capabilities.

  • Help with installation of Illustrator (CS3 on Windows Vista)

    I downloaded Illustrator onto my laptop, but when I go and try and nstall it, it gives a message saying: installation cannot continue until the following applications are closed: internet explorer.
    Please close the applications listed above and click 'try again' to continue the installation.
    The thing is that I do close IE!! I've tried re-starting, pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL, but nothing works! I am seriously desperate. What is the problem and how do I go about fixing it? I need Illustrator installed.
    Mere

    I do not know your exact problem and I do not know if this is going to do the job but for what it is worth. Uninstall IE restart your computer then install AI. Then reinstall IE.
    As I say I do not know if this would work but it might be worth a try.

  • Saving as HTML can't see anything when saved illustrator CS3 for windows

    I'm working on a newsletter that will be used in a blast email. I am rather new at illustrator. I was told that I need to save it as html and did that but after it is saved and reopened there is nothing to see except boxes with a "x" in it. I tried linking and embedding the images but it didn't make any difference. Its not just the images its everything. Please help! I need to get this done today.
    Thanks

    When saving using the save for web you must use html with images or just images. Which one will depend on if you plan on using another html file or not.
    The html file is not an image format. It is a text file with tags in it that tells your web browser where to find the images.
    When you upload the html file to your web server, you also have to upload the images in the corresponding folder that matches the tag in the html file.
    Example:
    <img src="http://example.com/folder/image.jpg">
    In your ftp program, once you access the folder that is visible to the world (where you store your default.html or index.html file) create a folder and in that folder upload your jpg image. Make sure you check capitalization of both folders and files as some servers are case sensitive.
    If you need more help with the html portion I recommend that you post to the dreamweaver forum or see if your server has a forum and ask there. As there are several different methods in uploading files so I could easily miss something.
    Good luck

  • New Illustrator CS3 Install Windows 7 64-bit Problem

    I just migrated from XP to a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64-bit.
    For some reason, Illustrator loads with no palletes and when I try to create a new document, the following appears:
    Now if I run as Administrator, Illustrator loads normally without this error, but every time I start Illustrator, I get a User Account Control warning popup. Is there any way to tell UAC that Illustrator is on some approved program list and to stop bothering me about it?

    I'm not seeing anything new added to the Event log security at the time I launch the program and get the UAC popup.
    I get the UAC for all programs that have to run with Admin privilages. So far that means Illustrator (or else it won't load it's palletes), QuarkXpress 8.02 and TMPGenc Xpress. All of them malfunction in some way if not run with Admin level tokens.
    I wish the UAC would learn which programs are 'safe to run', but it doesn't. I started Illustrator up a dozen times and still get the UAC when I start it. If I don't run it with Admin levels, I get the popup shown at the beginning of this thread.

  • Illustrator CS3 for windows quits automatically when i try to save my file

    Is there anyway to troubleshoot this?
    I have been able to save files in the past.

    D,
    If it has anything to do with preferences, uninstalling and reinstalling will make no difference. If that is the case, you may try to  Move the folder.
    But before doing that, it may be worth trying to consider whether the file may be corrupt.
    Does it happen to other files?
    If not, you may move the contents into a new document (tick Paste Remembers Layers in the Layers panel (and untick it when done).
    You may try to move everything (from all layers), and if the new document is corrupt, you may start anew and move bits and pieces.

  • Illustrator CS3 & Windows 7

    I spent a lot of time searching the threads and couldn't find an answer.
    I need to know if Illustrator CS3 and Windows 7 have any issues?
    Thanks for your help,
    Mike

    Search yields following hits. Many posters fail to identify whether the problems occur with 32- or 64-bit Windows 7 systems. Many more issues are reported by users of 64-bit Windows 7.

  • Illustrator CS3 won't save ai files

    I have Illustrator CS3 on Windows Vista Home on Dell Inspiron 530/530s
    I have had this software for quite a while, but just recently it has stopped allowing me to save as an ai file. I can save in any other format just fine.
    I have searched the web on this and tried every fix I saw, none of which worked. The most recent file is tiny, no fonts, 2 color! I was able to take it into Corel and save it as an ai and open it in Illustrator, but it would not resave in illustrator.
    I have tried saving to desktop, checked print spooling was on auto (it was) etc. etc. I did buy 2 new HP printers recently. One is a laser P1515n, and the other a ink jet Photosmart C4680. Beyond that, nothing has changed.
    This is a huge issue for me, and is causing down time trying to find an answer while being unproductive. HELP!?!~

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3: Fatal error during installation

    Hello,
    I just bought the AI CS3. It installed OK on my friend's laptop (windows). However, when I clicked the big button in the installation:
    "Install Adobe Illustrator CS3"
    A window showed:
    Initializing Adobe Illustrator...
    Then I got a message:
    "Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe customer Support for assistance. Fatal error during installation".
    I've tried several times. My computer meets all the requirements (it's a really new and faster PC). And there's no old versions of AI on it yet.
    Can anyone help? Thanks!!!

    Do you have any other Adobe products on your computer? When I installed CS3 on my Mac, I kept getting failures. After contacting Adobe, they told me I had to delete ALL other Adobe products -- including Flash and Adobe Reader. Plus, I had to do searches and delete any support files associated with them. It took hours!
