Illustrator CS3 Save as Postscript Issue

Utilizing Illustrator CS3 on Mac OSX Tiger -
Unable to output Postscript file. Getting the following error message: "The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer dialog are not supported."
However, we are able to output Postscript from same computer in Illustrator CS2 without issue. Note that in CS3 it is also prompting to re-enter the file name when saving but not in CS2.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!!

Are you trying to "Print" to a Postscript File?
For "Printer" choose "Adobe Postscript" and for PPD choose "AdobePDF"

  • Illustrator CS3 on Windows- Freezing Issue

I have Illustrator CS3 on my dell computer and I am having issues with it freezing frequently. Most of the time it happens while saving but it also happens at other annoying times. Typically the program will have to Quit Unexpectedly, causing any unsaved work to be deleted. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

So I like several others have been fighting the on going battle of Saving issues as well as Exiting AI errors. I have searched for several days now (which is ridiculous). I have searched in Forums from Adobe.com to Chase.com. I have seen answers, from not exiting using the X in the top right, to deleting the pref. folder.
I have even tried all of the tips and suggestions. So you want to know what works...Well here is what I have done to get my AI to work well for now. Tomorrow it may be hanging up all over again.
    * In AI>Edit>Preferences>File Handling and Clipboard> Uncheck All of the below:
Enable Version Cue, Copy As: PDF and AICB(no transparency support)
    * Unmaximize the window size.
    * File>Print>Printer:Adobe PDF as default.
    * Reboot!
Adobe needs to fix this issue and SOON!
*** No one buys expensive software expecting to make so many adjustments to get it to work.

  • Update Illustrator CS3

I tried several times to update Illustrator CS3 to CS3.1 but it cannot be applied to the product. What is going wrong?

    From the AI update page:
Illustrator 13.0.2, which is recommended for all Illustrator CS3 users, addresses issues related to importing native Freehand files into Illustrator. This includes fixes for retaining certain gradients on fills, some raster effects, as well as additional support for importing of text styles.
AI Japanese edition users have a 13.0.3 update:
Illustrator 13.0.3, which is recommended for all Illustrator CS3 Japanese users, addresses issues related to compatibility between Adobe-Japan1-6 JIS 2004 font and Composite Font, and unexpected leading shift in editing text. Before you can execute this updater, you need to update to Illustrator CS3 version 13.0.2 and have 500MB of free disk space.

  • Illustrator CS3 crashes when changing locations during save or place. Mac, Yosemite

After updating to Yosemite and fixing the initial problem of not being able to open Illustrator (installing older Java). Illustrator now crashes every time I try to select a location to save a file. If I save without changing the file location it's not an issue. It also crashes when I want to PLACE a file and I try to navigate to the location.
MacBook Pro (2012), OSX 10.10.2 (Yosemite).
Adobe Illustrator CS3 (Yeah, I know).
Changing fonts doesn't seem to be a problem. Large files are OK. It's only when navigating to a location using a drop down menu in the SAVE AS or PLACE dialog box.
Any ideas of what might be wrong?

New information: I switched to the adobe dialog format and it fixed my issue. I'm leaving this here in case anyone else runs into this. However, I wouldn't mind finding out why it won't work the the OS dialog.

  • Illustrator CS3: Very Slow Open, Very Slow Save

    Hello all,
I just recently have been issues with Illustrator CS3. Up until about a few weeks ago, it had been running flawlessly. Now, whenever I try to open up any EPS or AI, Illustrator will literally take at least a minute to open it. This happens with a complex 2mb AI files, but also for a tiny simple files consisting of a 1" square on a blank artboard. No matter the file size, it will take around a minute to open it up.
    Opening a 44kb .eps: 75 seconds
    Opening a 210kb .ai file: 67 seconds
    Saving a 76kb .eps: 56 seconds
Export to grayscale PNG: 66 seconds
Export AI Layers to SWF Files: 2 seconds
    This is ridiculous.
Saving is the same issue. It takes a ridiculously long time to save even a blank document.
It's not my machine (2x2.66ghz Intel Mac with 5gb ram, OSX 10.5.6). Photoshop feels a little sluggish too, but not to this extent. InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Acrobat all run perfectly. I even uninstalled all the CS3 products and reinstalled to find the same issues. And now that I've been given a time sensitive job, I need to get this program running quickly again.
I'm not sure what I can do to solve the problem, aside from trying to reinstall OSX and start fresh. Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!

Well, I reinstalled Mac OS X before even trying those methods. It was less of a hassle than I thought it would be. Solved the problems with Illustrator. Everything is running fantastic.
But, I was just working in Photoshop, opening about ~20-30 small PNG's at a time to resize, grayscale, etc. I opened up about 60 at once to make things go quicker. They all opened up, with a little bit of lag. Now, if I even try to open up 10-15 PNG's at a time, they load very slow, like the problem I was having before with Illustrator...
Is there anyway to reset some memory settings? Or clear some cache? I believe this is what caused my issues with Illustrator before (opening too many files at once.)

  • Illustrator CS3 won't save ai files

I have Illustrator CS3 on Windows Vista Home on Dell Inspiron 530/530s
I have had this software for quite a while, but just recently it has stopped allowing me to save as an ai file. I can save in any other format just fine.
I have searched the web on this and tried every fix I saw, none of which worked. The most recent file is tiny, no fonts, 2 color! I was able to take it into Corel and save it as an ai and open it in Illustrator, but it would not resave in illustrator.
I have tried saving to desktop, checked print spooling was on auto (it was) etc. etc. I did buy 2 new HP printers recently. One is a laser P1515n, and the other a ink jet Photosmart C4680. Beyond that, nothing has changed.
This is a huge issue for me, and is causing down time trying to find an answer while being unproductive. HELP!?!~

  • Illustrator cs3 crashes when I save on a PC

I am a student and i am working on illustrator cs3 and a couple of days ago, i tried to save my work and the program freezed.  Since i didn't have any response form the program i had to end its task.  Can somebody help me fix this problem since i have to finish my work for the mid-terms that are coming up very soon?
    a.

    a,
Another suggestion: Preference corruptions create many strange issues.
You may try to Ctrl+Alt+Shift during startup of Illy, or use the instructions in the hint Move the folder.
The former is simpler, the latter is capable of solving more issues, and it reversible so you do not lose your preference settings in vain if it does not work.

  • Illustrator CS3 "Unknown Error" while trying to save (Win Vista)

When ever I try to save my Illustrator file on my home computer, a Vista machine, I get an error that says "Unknown Error." When I save from school on XP computers I don't have this problem. However. While this is inconvenient it isn't the core problem, from school I was able to successfully save to a PDF however when I took my project to get printed, the PDF file came up blank both on screen and on paper, while the Illustrator CS2 and CS3 version were visible on screen they did not materialize on paper.
Can anyone help me work through these issues?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Well it says Windows compatable right on the CS3 Master Collection box. Perhaps I'm making a mistake by calling it Illustrator 3, under file name the full title is "Adode Illustrator CS3"
Here's a screen cap if you'd like to see for yourself.

Now that thats out of the way, any idea what is causing this?

  • How to find out the save as setting information in illustrator cs3?

How to find out the save as setting information in illustrator cs3 through programmatically. I saved the file using the setting like Overprint, EmbedAllFonts, IncludeDocumentThumbnails throgh scripting. But i don't know how to find out the save as setting information(Overprint, EmbedAllFonts, IncludeDocumentThumbnails) whether the checkbox true or not through scripting. Kindly advice me.

Thanks for your response. Some time the operator will set the wrong "save as setting" in the eps file . So i need to check wheather the operator set the correct save as setting or not. If the operator set the wrong save as setting,  i need to inform while running the script. So please advice me how to find out the save as setting information of the active document file, and then inform to the operator if any improper "save as setting" occured.

  • Stroke issues Illustrator CS3

    Hello,
When i give outlined text in illustrator CS3 a stroke of 0,1pt it seems like
the stroke is put on in an angle (like its done with a brush)
Expanding the stroke makes the problem even clearer.
This problem seems to become less when i boost the stroke to 0,15pt.
Opening the same document in CS2 gives no problems at all.. the stroke works as it should do.
    Any ideas on this?

On a side note, Illustrator CS3 has to be the buggiest adobe application I've ever dealt with. It has so many little annoying bugs, most of which are fixed in CS4. I shouldn't have to pay for an upgrade to CS4 just to get bugs fixed though, that seems wrong.
You must not have used version 10.
As for the outline issue... try Object > Flatten Transparency

  • Can't save illustrator cs3

I can't save illustrator CS3 in my Toshiba Satellite laptop P4(M) 1.7 GHz with memory 1.5GB under Window XP Service Park 2 (Home Addition) and alot of HD free space. When I save CS3, can't save illustrator CS3 error massage dialog box appear. Follow are I can read from that error massage window.
    AppName: illustrator.exe
    AppVer: 13.0.128.0
    ModName: agm.dll

    C:\DOCUME~1\HTAYWI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\4228_appcompat.txt

Mmh, yeah, sounds familiar but for the life of it I cannot reme, ber the solution. I believe it's documented in the knowledgebase on the support pages and hinges on some VersionCue stuff being wrong. Other than that I could only imagine Acrobat Quick Launcher or Windows own preview generating functions having a hold of the file, when you save it as PDF compatible...

    Hello Shadzilla,
Try to open the vector file from Photoshop.
Do you know what program was used to create the "Vector Image"?

  • Save a copy - Illustrator CS3

I have been fumbling around to create a script that will create a pdf file from an Illustrator CS3 file. I have the References for both Applescript and Javascript and am comfortable with the Save pdf options in either scripting format. But I would like the script to save the pdf while leaving the current document in Illustrator CS3 native format open for editing.
    Much appreciation for any suggestions.
    Thank You

    Thank You Tom,
I was only coming up with solutions that felt clumsy. I settled on 2 similar applescript approaches.
One works on an open document:
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
set openDoc to file path of current document as alias
    end tell
    tell application "Finder"
set theFile to (openDoc as text)
set theFileCopy to text 1 thru -3 of theFile
do shell script "cp -pr " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFile & " " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFileCopy & "pdf"
set theCopy to theFileCopy & "pdf"
    end tell
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    activate
    open theCopy as alias
save the current document as pdf with options {class:PDF save options ¬
    , compatibility:Acrobat 5 ¬
    , preserve editability:false, view pdf:true}
    close current document saving no
    end tell
The other works on a selected file in the finder:
    tell application "Finder"
    copy selection to theSelected
set theFile to (theSelected as text)
set theFileCopy to text 1 thru -3 of theFile
do shell script "cp -pr " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFile & " " & quoted form of POSIX path of theFileCopy & "pdf"
set theCopy to theFileCopy & "pdf"
    end tell
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    activate
    open theCopy as alias
save the current document as pdf with options {class:PDF save options ¬
    , compatibility:Acrobat 5 ¬
    , preserve editability:false, view pdf:true}
    close current document saving no
    end tell
Both seem to get the job done. But they just don't feel very slick.
Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.
    Thank You
    Nick

  • I have Illustrator CS3 installed.  When I click on a save document from last year, I get a message that I cannot use this product, contact administor or Adobe.  What do I do?

I have Adobe Illustrator CS3 installed on my Windows 7 computer.  I created art last year.  I clicked on it today to modify it and use it for my holiday card.  I got a message that I am not allowed to use this product and must contact my administrator or Adobe.  I am the only user of this home computer and the administrator.  Why can't I use the program and what do I do?  It mentioned uninstalling it and reinstalling it.  Is that what I have to do?  I can't seem to contact Adobe directly anymore.

You have not provided the exact error message (including any numeric codes). From the looks of it this sounds like the licensing system simply failed and indeed a reinstall is the only proper way to fix it. run the cleaner tool and reinstall.
