Illustrator CS4 Classroom in a book

Has anyone used the Classroom in a book?
I'm having huge problems trying to understand Chapter 14 and masking the image. It just seems a bit around the houses and some bits appear pointless.
I've gone over and over it and am now getting brain freeze!!!

JET
That was smashing!!! I'm so glad it's not me just being thick.

I'm sorry...and what part of that do you find confusing?
>
It's par-for-the-Illustrator-course. I haven't used the book, but I'm glad
to see it has so well captured the spirit of Illustrator. To wit:
>
A Stroke is not an Attribute but an Appearance, but Appearances have
Attributes therefore a Stroke has Attributes.
You can select a Segment independendently of its anchorPoints but a
Segment can't exist without anchorPoints. So if you Cut just a Segment to
the clipboard, you actually Cut a Segment and two anchorPoints, even though
the two anchorPoints will stay behind on the pageuh, noArtboard. And
if you Paste what you Cut, you will Paste one Segment and two anchorPoints
so you will now have one Segment and four anchorPoints.
If you need to view info about something, look to the Control Panel, even
if you don't want to control it, unless you need info on it, in which case
you look in the Info Panel, unless you need info on it, in which case you go
to the Document Info Panel's flyout menu and select Selection Only and then
go to the Document Info Panel's flyout menu and select Object. Don't look to
the Appearance Panel for info, unless, of course the info you seek is about
the something's Appearances.

You're welcome. Always glad to help.

  • Can you use Adobe Illustrator CS4 Classroom in a book tutorials(on CD rom) without buying the software?

I recently purchased Adobe Illustrator Classroom In a book CS4, and am having trouble getting to the lessons through the CD-rom which came with the book. My question is do I need to purchase the Illustrator CS4 product to use the tutorials/lessons? I would REALLY appreciate some help, it's needed for a college credit for a design major. Thank you!!

There's the trial version that you can download from adoble.com.  I think it's good for 30 days.  Other than that, doesn't your school have a computer lab?
There's no way to open the files and work with them other than in a copy of Illustrator.  You might be able to open them in inkscape (free) or Freehand (no longer available) but then what are you learning?  Not Illustrator...
[edit]  You should be able to get most of the lessons done in an older version of Illy though, which might be more affordable (if you can find them for sale)

  • How do i use illustrator cs6 classroom in a book

how do i use illustrator cs6 classroom in a book?

Do you have a copy of Illustrator installed?
Then just begin at page 1, read it and practice what you read. Step by step.
If you don't understand parts of it, dive into the manual as well or ask a question in this forum. But mind that not everybody has a copy of the Classroom in a book. So you need to ask your questions precisely and post screenshots of your artwork.

  • Illustrator 10 Classroom in a Book CD-ROM files

    Hi Folks,
I've had Illustrator 10 for sometime now, the student version, and I recently purchased the Adobe Illustrator 10 Classroom in a Boob at my local Salvation Army without the accompanying CD-ROM.
I know that Illustrator 10 is old but so is my system (Win. XP Pro) so I would need to purchase a new system plus the new vs. of Illustrator and to be honest i just don't have that right now, so ...
I'm hoping someone can tell me where I can get my hands on a copy of the Illustrator 10 Classroom in a Book CD so I can start using the book and learn to use Illustrator 10; at least with some basic understanding of the program I can get my foot in the door somewhere, even as an intern.
Any help would be grately appreciated.
    Thank You

    Hi Monika,
My apologies for such a late reply, life has a way of showing up in very interesting ways ...
Thank you for your reply and suggestion, much appreciated.  I didn't find the title "Adobe Illustrator 10, Classroom in a Book" in either AdobePress.com or Peachpit.com, the title is to old and they no longer carry it, which is why I posted the question here in hopes of someone still having a copy of the CD and perhaps be willing to share the exercise files.
I guess I may have no other recourse but to try ebay and the like, as you suggested.
    Thank You

  • Lessons on CD (Indesign CS4 Classroom in a book)

I lost the CD that came with the book INDESIGN
CS4 CLASSROOM IN A BOOK from Adobe Press on which
there are files which corresponds to lessons in the book.
Does anyone know if there's a way to download
    those files from internet?
I look on the Adobe website, and I didn't see anything.
    Thanks
    Louis

The CIB series is distributed by Peachpit Press, but I don't see any way on their site to download the lesson files. You might get some help if you call their customer service.

  • Illustrator CS4, new Pantone color books, color channel issue

Since I installed the new Pantone color books, I've been running in a major issue which will affect our whole production line.
If an Illustrator CS4 file contains a Photoshop CS4 image which is using an "old" Pantone color in a color channel, it cannot be opened and I get an error message "File is unreadable". If I replace the "old" Pantone colour with its new equivalent in the color channel in Photoshop, the file can be opened normally.
In our work environment, this means going through all our images to check which one is using a color channel. A painful and time wasting procedure. Furthermore, if one of our suppliers doesn't have the new color books, they won't be able to open any of the files, both Photoshop and Illustrator, so they have no way to revert back to the old Pantone.
Is there another way to fix this?
    Thank you

More on the Pantone PLUS saga, hoping to get some input from the users of this forum. I find their silence deafening, to say the least. This is a serious issue, that will cost our agency hours and hours of work if it isn't addressed. And we've already wasted hours of troubleshooting and discussions on how we could resolve it.
We're actually testing a workaround: using both the old and the new libraries in Illustrator. After consulting our suppliers, we've learned that this is what they also do. For them, it's a one shot to get the file to print. For us, it means cheating with files that will get edited again in the future. And the Pantone installer removes the old Pantone books from the Adobe folders for a reason which is mentioned on the download page:
The reason that the PANTONE Color Libraries that had been built into Illustrator need to be removed and replaced with the PANTONE PLUS Color Libraries is that, in Illustrator, a PANTONE Color can only have one data point with which it is associated. In the short term, in order to benefit from the new colors and data associated in PLUS, the PANTONE Libraries that are installed with Adobe Illustrator are removed and replaced with the new PLUS Libraries.
    http://www.pantone.com/pages/Pantone/Pantone.aspx?pg=20721&ca=1
I worry this may lead to another bunch of issue, knowing how easily AI files get corrupted. What I need to know is:
What is the exact meaning of the Pantone warning about the "one data point per color?
What are the long term implications of using both Pantone libraries in an Adobe file? Or in the Adobe app?

  • I have the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 "Classroom in a Book" but my computer says "File Format is not Supported" when I try to use accompanying DVD. What is wrong please, I really like the book and want to learn!

I've had the product for a while and have tried editing without the book and using video's but it goes slow and I don't feel like I'm learning.
I'm sure there are shortcuts to be had and I'm re-inventing the wheel it seems.
"File Format not supported" means exactly what? Is my Windows Version not compatible?
Not used to chat rooms, would prefer personal training but that is not the way of things anymore.

Okay, so I Right Click and nothing says "Link Media".
When I double click on an asset it says, "the selected file cannot be linked because it has 2 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with 1 audio channel(s)."
However 1 video clip asset does open in CS4.
The "Lesson One" project itself says, "file format not supported." still.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5-Classroom in a book

It's taken me a couple of hours to get to page 26 and now I am stuck.  I am finding the software does not always work as described by the book.  I am on Lesson 00, Working with type.  I follow the directions, which I have read over and over again, but my type does not show up on the graphic. A tiny blue box appears where the type should be though.  Has anyone else encountered this problem and conquered it?
    JacLyn

    Kurt,
Adding text to a graphic using Type.  Instructions:
#1. Choose Window > Workspace > Essentials to reset the panels.
#2. Select the Type tool, and click once on the artboard in an area where there are no objects.  You will reposition the text later in the lesson.
    #3.  Type FelliciTea.
No text shows up, only a tiny blink.
Was it inappropiate for me to ask this question on this forum? If so, could you please direct me to where I can get help?

  • I recently bought the adobe photoshop cs4 classroom in a book. I found that book very interesting be

cause learned a lot of things. That particular book along with the CD gives you the proper practice step by step. Unfortunatelly I already went through that book twice and I would like to know of a similar book that comes with a  CD and you get step by step instructions to practice photoshop.
    Thanks a million

I agree with John Joslin, lynda.com is awesome!
I buy a lot of computer books. When I purchased Dreamweaver CS5 at Adobe.com there was a offer for a free 30 day subscription to lynda.com
When I was using the 30 day demo of Dreamweaver CS5 I was search and reading book reviews for Dreamweaver so If I decided to purchase Dreamweaver (I did end up purchasing it) I would know what book/books I should purchase to go with it.
After just a few days of using my free 30 day trial of lynda.com I paid for a subscription to the site. I have learned so much about Dreamweaver and now Fireworks from lydna.com in the first few weeks of working with the adobe programs and it only cost as much (or even less) then a lot of books on Dreamweaver or Fireworks.
I will still be purchasing books for the adobe programs for future references, but lynda.com sure is a great way to get a jump start on learning a product that was completely new to me.
I highly recommend you give lynda.com a try.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Classroom in a Book

Anyone know what the story is with this book? Every online retailer seems to have pulled it off the shelf. Amazon had a notice on their page for it that said something to the effect that "there is a pending issue with this product".
Now I can only find overpriced used copies. Weird.
    Anyone know?

  • Problem in AI CS4 Classroom in a Book

Hope someone has this book and can help. Reference Page 75, top paragraph (No.3). (Have attached file)
There are four stars, unevenly spaced. I selected the four and clicked on Horiz Distribute Center. Instead of moving the center two to even space between all, it proceeded to stretch group across entire width of artboard.
I also  randomly placed four small objects (symbols) on a horizontal line, selected the four and again applied HDC (as above). Instead of holding the outer two objects and moving only center two, all four objects were now evenly spaced across entire art board.
    Explanation please.
