Illustrator CS4 crops my artwork when exporting to png

Illustrator CS4 crops my artwork when exporting to png (it always crops on the right side). It doesn't happen everytime but often enough to be annoying. Sometimes centering my artwork in the artboard solves the problem but not always. Do you have any idea why it's happening, and what I can do to avoid that problem?
(See the attached png)

@Jacob & Mylenium: I don't have any stroked path in my artwork. I've tried to add a no fill/no stroke rectangle (same size as my artwork and then a bit bigger) but it didn't work.
Your advices gave me an idea though: I've added a filled rectangle slightly bigger than my artwork, centered it and dropped its opacity to 0%, it worked.
I'm glad I know that trick now, because even when my artwork wasn't badly cropped, it was touching the edges of the picture (png). Then I had to open it in Photoshop and increase the canvas size in order to leave some transparent space between the artwork and the edges of the picture. Now I can do that in Illustrator
Thanks a lot for your help !

  • Save error when exporting to PNG in Illustrator using a Macbook with Yosemite

Anybody experience the issue of png being saved with "/" in the beginning of the file name when exporting to png in Illustrator? This only happens when I use my mac not my PC.
Due to the save error my PC cannot identify the files and when the files are linked in Indesign they are not copied when packaging the indesign file.
Any advice on the issue are most appreciated

I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of problem, but the first thing I'd check is the parameter block you're passing the action call. I don't know why it would matter if the dialog appeared or not, unless the export settings block wasn't being filled in with everything it needs?
You might try recording an export you perform manually via the action palette, and then saving it to a file. You can open it up manually and compare it (even if it's a binary block) to what you're doing in code. You might spot something that way.
I don't know what else to suggest though. It's unlikely to be an SDK bug, though it could be a bug in the action-aware part of the exporter.

  • Color differentiation when exporting to PNG

    Hello!
This is just driving me crazy and I'm dying to find a solution. Whenever I export my artboards to the PNG format, I receive a slight change in the bitmap colorization.
In Illustrator, my colors are perfect, but when exporting to PNG, the end result shows an increase in color vibrance - making a light blue (for example) show as slightly more turquoise/sharper light blue.
    Example:
(This is a screenshot capture. Illustrator artboard is on the left hand side, the exported PNG example is on the right hand side.)
So, my question is if I am doing something wrong with my color settings?
My settings have been set in my Adobe Bridge to:
    Europe General Purpose 3
    RGB Space: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
CMYK Space: Coated FOGRA39 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
PS: I constantly switch between creating graphics that are used for the web and other on-screen web applications (such as GUI's) and printed booklets and posters, etc. I've always had immense trouble finding a perfect working space with web and printed material. If anyone has an advice for color settings or some kind of best-practice working environment to create consistent color, I would be very appreciative.
    Thank you!

Chrome is not a color managed browser. From the several browsers I have installed on my pc only Firefox has color management capabilities that can match the color with the Adobe color managed programs.
You have to understand that there are color and non-color managed programs. Non-color managed programs always display the colors with the color space of your monitor. Take for example a color recorded in the file say, pure red R=255, G=0, B=0. The non-color managed program will send to your video card the same number and your monitor will display the most saturated red it is physically capable of. When a color managed program reads this value, first it checks the color space of the document, which can be defined with a color profile, a soft proofing color space, or when there is no color profile with the color settings set for the working space. Then it checks the color space of your monitor which is defined in your system and translates the values from the color space of the document to the color space of your monitor which can result in a different value other than 255, 0, 0 sent to your video card. In other words color management is simulating on your monitor a color space different than your monitor's color space. The result from this is different color displayed by color managed and non-color managed programs when reading the same file.
You can't make non-color managed programs to match a color managed programs, but you can make the color managed program match the non - color managed programs on your monitor by setting you document color space to the color space of your monitor. To do that from the Edit menu, choose Assign Profile and select the color profile of your monitor. This will match the color in Illustrator to the color displayed by the non-color managed programs. This in effect turns the color management off because the color management is translating between the same color spaces which results in zero difference.
However have in mind that this is not a very professional way of working with color and it only ensures a color consistency between color managed and non-color managed programs on your current monitor. What color you are actually creating that others will see or the color that will print is unpredictable with this setup.

  • How to make white shapes turn transparent when exporting to .png?

I'm trying to cut out parts of my image with white shapes, but when exporting to .png with transparent backgrounds, the white shapes remain as white shapes instead of becoming transparent and applying the cut.
    How do i fix this?
    Thanks,
    Rokas

Use a mask, most probably an opacity mask should help.

  • What resolution do I choose when exporting a png?

I Have created a vector graphic that will be used as an app screen. My document size is 1080 x 1920 (HDTV 1080). When exporting to png, should the resolution be 300 or 72?

I chose the HD configuration because it was the same dimensions I am required to work in, that is 1080 x 1920 for an Android screen.
Can you point me in the right direction to these developer guides? My background is in print, not web, so I have asked this question on the forum in order to receive some practical guidance.
    Thanks!

  • Trouble getting Illustrator CS4 to run, and when it does: no workspaces

At work (University of St Andrews) I have Adobe CS4 Web Premium and everything installs and runs okay apart from Illustrator CS4.
I've tried to install it on two different PCs, both Dell Precision workstations. One had Windows XP Professional 32-bit, the new one has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I get exactly the same behaviour on both. I've even tried to install it on Windows 7's XP Mode and I get the same error messages!
    INSTALLATION #1
When I installed it I got an error saying "Done, with errors". Details showed:
    Error
    Adobe Illustrator CS4 LangPack (en_GB)
    Error:
    Error 2
When I then tried to run the application it just wouldn't start, it would throw up an error message. It simply would not start.
    INSTALLATION #2
So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and got the same error.
    COPY FILES - NO WORKSPACES
I then read this advice on a forum:
"Do you have a working install of Ai CS4 on another computer anywhere?
    If so, go into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator\Support\Required
and copy the Resources file to the same location on the computer that
encounters the error. I was having the same problem, but luckily I had a
working install on another OS, so I just compared the files between the
two installations and found the missing ones."
So I copied over these files from a working copy elsewhere in the department and this time the application ran but I now have no WorkSpace settings and cannot save any either.
    INSTALLATION #3
I then uninstalled again and tried to reinstall. This time on the installer I was given a number of language options. Rather than English (International) I selected English (US) and lo! and behold! the installer ran without errors and the application opened ok and this time I had WorkSpaces... the only problem was that it would only run in trial mode because it wouldn't accept my serial number, which I'm guessing is for English (International) only.
    INSTALLATION #4
Uninstall, again. Reinstall, again, this time in English (International).
Now the application opens but again I have no WorkSpaces, and cannot save any workspaces.
What can I do? Any idea how can I get a fully working version of Illustrator CS4 on my PC that includes workspaces?
    Thank you
    Gareth

    Hi Carey,
Thanks for your post. I have followed your instructions and here are my replies:
Are you having any issues with your other Adobe products, or is it just Illustrator?
If just Illustrator, did you previously install the product separately (i.e. as a trial, or as a pre-release/beta)?
I am having problems only with Illustrator CS4. I have not installed the product separately, either as a trial or a pre-release or beta.
In fact, I installed Adobe CS4 Web Premium on a clean, newly installed, straight-from-the-Dell-factory Dell Precision T7400. It was the first application I installed, and Illustrator wasn't working straight after the installation.
I've not had any problems with other Adobe applications. The only time the serial number became an issue was when I tried to reinstall Illustrator CS4 using "English (US)" as an option, simply out of curiosity as this hadn't been an option with the original installation of the whole suite.
    I followed the instructions:
    Deleted C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4.
Updated permissions for Public Documents (although when I reached step 12: "Click Apply and click Permissions tab." there was no Permissions tab).
Reinstalled Illustrator CS4 from the setup.exe file. You said uncheck everything else, however the following applications would not allow me to untick them:
    Adobe Bridge CS4
    Adobe Extension Manager CS4
    Supporting Components:
              Adobe CMaps CS4
              Adobe CSI CS4
              Adobe CSI CS4 x64
Adobe Color EU Recommended Settings CS4
Adobe Color JA Extra Settings CS4
Adobe Color NA Extra Settings CS4

              Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS4
              Adobe Fonts All CS4
              Adobe Adobe Linguistics CS4
              Adobe Output Module
              Adobe PDF Library Files CS4
              Adobe Search for Help
              Adobe Service Manager Extension
              Adobe Type Support CS4
              Adobe Update Manager CS4
              Adobe WinSoft Linguistics PLugin x64
              Adobe XMP Panels CS4

              AdobeColorCommonSetRGB
              Connect
              PDF Settings CS4
              Photoshop Camera Raw _x64
              kuler
The installer ran, and I got exactly the same error as before:
    Error
    Adobe Illustrator CS4 LangPack (en_GB)
    Error:
    Error 2
Now when I try to run Illustrator CS4 I get a dialog box saying:
    Error
The localized resource files for this application could not be loaded. Please reinstall or repair the application and try again.
This is the ninth time I've tried to reinstall it.
I'll try to send you a direct message with the serial number and take it from there.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CS4 [cant] error message when opening

    Hi all,
I've just installed Illustrator CS4 twice and still get this error. i'm running it on a Dell 745 with Windows XP SP3.
When I open Illustrator I get the following error message
"adobe illustrator cs4 operation cannot complete because of an unknown error [cant]"
tried to google it but can't see anyone else having the same problem.
    any ideas?
    Cheers

Well, it hangs on Updating font menu, according to the splash screen. Ergo, the most likely reason is, that you have a "bad" font on your system. Remove it and AI should launch. And before you ask: Yes, remove all fonts that are not system fonts. You can add them back step by step later to find out which one exactly caused the problem.

  • CS6 Illustrator crops large artworks when printing to PDF!

    Hi Guys
    Anyone have any advice?
I have several client artwork files that used to print OK until I updated to a new iMac with OS X 10.8.3.
My output method is to print a .ps file and rip it using Acrobat Pro - I have version X.
Unfortunately now there are no controls within the print dialogue in Illustrator as this Mac will not install Acribat as a printer.
If I upgrade to Acrobat XI will this resolve itself?
    Any ideas?
All and any help gratefully received.
    Jake

    bdsjake,
Or what happens if you save the AI file with Create PDF Compatible file ticked (you can use File>Save As),
then open it with Reader and save it from there?
    Edit: Hi Scott.

  • Why am I getting a "-01" after my differently named Exports in Illustrator CS4?  i.e.: JPEG and PNG files.

Again, the files I am Exporting are assigned different names than the CS4 Illustrator file and/or any other files in destination Folder.
    Thx.

OK. Just tested not using "Use Artboards" and it did not add "01".
Odd that it started doing that after several years of not doing that.
I'll just have to add a box around the Page edges so it will crop correctly for me.
    Live and learn, Scott.
Thanks much for your your help!  )))

  • Image cropped when exporting to PNG

    Hello,
I'm trying to export a 24x23px image (seen below magnified) into PNG file.
When I do that at Screen 72ppi, for some reason when it's all done it's cropped (as seen below in the example).
I tried exporting at High 300ppi (in which case nothing is cropped) and then resizing it in Corel Paint Shop, but in that case I have these "shadow effects" at 12 and 3 o'clock of the semicircle... the quality isn't great anyway.
Any idea why AI is cropping? I'm using CS4.
    Thanks in advance.

Another example...  I have this round button that after exporting has "flat spots" at 3 and 6 o'clock.  Please see attachments for example.
I've tried so many things, but I can't make it look perfectly round.  I know that it's possible since our company already has other buttons (already in PNG format) in this exact format and they look perfect.  But the person who did that isn't here anymore and he most likely used AI CS3 or something earlier.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CS4 and CS3 freeze when saving a PDF as an AI file

I'm trying to pull apart a couple of PDFs into layers to import them into After Effects. I do this all the time and it's a pretty standard thing which I haven't had any trouble with before, but for the last couple of days whenever I try to save the PDF as an AI file, the damn thing freezes - I get the washing machine of death (I'm on Vista), the program goes greyed out and I have to restart it, losing all the changes. I've tried the following, none of which seem to make any difference:
    - Saving to a different drive (C as opposed to an external USB drive)
    - Trying to open the PDFs in CS3 rather than CS4
    - Trying a couple of different PDFs
I can't reinstall Illustrator as I'm not at the office until the new year and don't have the disks. The PDFs are small (300k or so) and so it shouldn't be their size making the machine hang, surely? I've attached a sample. Specs are - dual core Dell M6300 laptop, 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, Quadro 1600 graphics.
Any ideas would be very gratefully received....

Sorry I haven't replied in a few days (I'm at my parents' house for Christmas, so not the ideal place to sort out Illustrator problems )
This is REALLY weird. I was wondering whether Illustrator would be able to save PDFs (which are after all basically the same thing as AI files for this purpose) to get around the problem that way. I tried: it saved the thing fine. Next I tried saving what I'd just saved as a PDF, as an AI file. It saved it in a flash without any problems. (This is with the trashed prefs file - I haven't tried reinstating it, yet.) I've just loaded up a 14Mb AI file, and saved it again without trouble.
There's only one thing I can think of that has been changed since the last time I tried this, when Illustrator wasn't working. This is something which was definitely affecting Word 2007: I've deleted a couple of network printers that were on nonexistent IP addresses. (Word wouldn't load anything, even the most basic of docs - it just froze; washing machine of death, grey screen, etc.) The default printer is thus now a Canon USB thing, which isn't plugged in either, but which Windows seems happy to carry on without. Word seemed unable to continue with the network printers installed, as presumably it was trying to contact them and failing. Could Illustrator have been falling into the same trap??
Anyway, whatever the problem, it seems to be working OK now. Thanks both and hope you have a merry Christmas and New Year period.
    Best
    Nick

  • CS4 all apps crash when export to pdf

Hi - I use CS4 and Mac OS 10.6.8. 2 days ago indesign started closing unexpectedly everytime I export as a pdf. on testing, all Illustrator and Photoshop also close. I have reinstalled CS4 and no improvement. Does anyone have any clues on this or do I have to reformat the harddrive and start again? Any assitance much appreciated

We might find a clue in a crash report.   Post the report on PasteBin.com (NOT here) and put a link to it here.

  • [CS4] Crossdomain security settings when exporting to SWF

I'm using CS4 (and CS4 server) to export single pages to SWF files, then I need to embed those SWF to a parent SWF binary (written with Flex) and publish them on a web server.
Everything works fine as long as both the parent and children SWF share the same domain and subdomain names.
But if I want different domain names for parent and children files, I have to face the standard Flash security rules ("embedded SWF files can be accessed only if they have specific security settings").
Using crossdomain XML files doesn't change anything, so what I need is to change the security settings directly inside the SWF generated by InDesign to allow him to be loaded by another SWF located on a different domain.
Is there a way (by scripting InDesign) to change my SWF security settings ?
I couldn't find nothing related to this subject in InDesign Object Model.

To be more precise : what I need is an InDesign SWF file with System.security.allowDomain set to '*'
