Illustrator CS4 does not save anything

I have been working on a file not very big around several megs. no images, just text. but every time i want to save the file. it gives a message of "cant save the file. cant print the file", that is for when i try to save as: .ai format.  and when i try to save it as: .eps it says,
"An unknown error has occured" and it does not save. but on both cirumstances illustrator does not quit. it use to do that and illustrator would then suddenly quit.
it does not allow me to save as any other file formats. except FXG format. which i never use.
i know, it is perhaps some kind of permission or preset or somthing similar issue, which i dont know. i tried reinstalling illustrator countless times. this porblem always comes in some form or another. i am very frustrated, dont know what else to try except keep reinstalling it again and again.
but that seem to be only working for a short period of time. then iam faced with the same thing again.
for you info: i have windows XP SP3 home, with 8600GTS graphic card, 2 Gig ram, TB of space, 80 Gb for windows. everything else on my machine is fine. except when running ily.
your help is much appreciated.

sana,
You may try to Move the folder.
Just deleing it may not be enough.
If that does not help, a reinstallation of Adobe Acrobat/Reader may.

  • Illustrator CS4 does not save an action set

In Illustrator CS4, english, under Windows XP SP3, english, I created a new action set and wrote some actions. It works. Later, I selected in the Actions menu the command Save Atctions... It opened a system' Save window, let me choose a folder and press OK, but does not do anymore else: without any word, it doesn not save a file. It does not hang, let me select folders, edit name... It seems, what Illustrator forgets about action.
How to nuge Illustrator CS4 to finish saving actions?

    This is vexing.
Photoshop CS4 works perfectly with the tablet's pressure, yet Illustrator CS4 does not.

My Tablet is a GENIUS MOUSEPEN 8x6

In Illustrator you have to set each brush to Pressure like such:

  • Illustrator CS6 does not save PDFs to artboard

I have had this problem more than once. The first time it happened, I uninstalled AI and did a fresh install which fixed it for a short time. When I save a PDF out of AI, it does not save to the artboard constraints.
This is a screen shot of my AI document which has 2 pages.
When I save as PDF, this is what the file looks like:
    (Pg 1)
    (Pg 2)
After the original file has been saved (incorrectly) I can open it and save it again and it will be fine. Any ideas?

Here's my test of a similar file in AICS5
    and here's the PDF
Got the same in AICS6 with the second artboard as a copy of the first as you've done.

  • Solved my Illustrator CS4 (Can not save file) issue (same as with Illustrator CS3)

Using Illustrator CS4, if the OS default printer is turned off, Illustrator will crash when saving the file to a name/format other than what it was opened as. I tested this and it's true, the bug exists in Illustrator CS4 (and was referenced in a ticket in this knowledge base on the CS3 product).
You'd think ADOBE would figure out how to DOCUMENT this feature!!
Set your default printer to ADOBE.PDF and all will be fine!

You do have to have a default printer how you were able to run Illustrator is a mystery unless they change this behavior in CS 3 which I was not aware of but perhaps it is something I forgot.
But I for one am glad you discovered the cause and cure and that you posted it, I don't have the problem but thank you.

  • Illustrator CS6 does not save PNGs properly

I have a problem with Illustrator CS6: anytime I try to export file to PNG, it saves a file of exactly 102 kb and the file is essentially empty. Is it a bug in Illustrator, or only I have such problems?

I believ Illustrator works one at least two platforms so it is hhard to say wi9thout knowing your specs.
But on the Mac it is working fine except that one can not export using the option to have a black or other color background if not already part of the file.
Other than that it is working as expected.
So I would say you have either a conflict or a corruption.
If a corruption then try this
    PC
    1. Quit Illustrator.
    2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS# Settings folder.
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
    Mac
    1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS# Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

  • HT4623 I recently updated my iphone to 07??  lost my calender notes - have now backed up however when I add to my calender with information it does not save anything - why?

cannot save message on my iphone calender

Just to add to my enquiry above...
I have downloaded a couple of these programmes which say they can help scan for missing photos.  One of the programs scanned my itunes and found photos from a back up this August.  I could see quite a few photos on there [the ones that I'm missing] but these programs only let you down load 2 files [photos] unless you register with them i.e I will have to pay.
So why isnt this back up for August showing up in the list 'restore from back up'  when I'm connected to my itunes??
Its so frustrating knowing that the majority of the photos I'm missing are actually still there somewhere.  Why do i have to pay another provider to get them back??

  • Acrobat 9.4.2 does not save/export all graphic formats

    Dear all,
Obviously i had my glass of wine to early! See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/798630 for the whole story of my re-re-re-istallation of Acrobat.
The installation of 9.0 from the TCS2 DVD was OK
After update to 9.2 my tests displayed correct results for all desired tasks
After the update to 9.4.2 i obviously did not test thoroughly enough (hence the glass of whine).
Later it turned out that 9.4.2 does not save/export graphic formats:
pdf (all flavours), eps and ps are exported correctly
html (all flavours) export a html file and the image as jpg correctly
jpg, jp2 does not save anything, and no error message gives a hint
doc, rtf save issue error message "Save As failed to process this document. No file has been created"
png and tif do not save anything, and no error message gives a hint
xml table and xml export correctly
txt (both flavours) are exported correctly
Hence the only method i can get a picture is to export as HTML and through away the HTML... or: enlarge the picture as much as possible on the screen and take a screen shot.
What is missing in this installation?
During my re-re-re-installtions some Windows updates may have happened.
Any help available for this issue?
    Klaus Daub e

The story goes on and hopefully Adobe has an answer/fix for this
There was an automatic update from 9.4.2 to 9.4.3, but the problem still existed.
So I decided to uninstall Acrobat and re-install it for the nth time: start with the installation of 9.0 from TCS2, reboot, update to 9.2, reboot, update to 9.4.3 and reboot again.
The result is very mixed (and this was alrady with the newly installed 9.0):
Save as RTF or DOC creates RTF and DOC files - although the contents is not that useful.
    Save as PNG is OK
Save as JPG, JP2 or TIF works, but it turns out, that the files are all PNG (although with the various extensions)!
Creating a snapshot now works correctly. The clipboard receives a bitmap. However: although I have set the preferences for the snapshot to be of 96 dpi the bitmap gets the property 72 dpi!
Setting acrobat.exe to be Compatible to XP SP3 does not change a jota.
Keep in mind: on Windows XP things worked correctly for a long time. Switching to Window 7, x64 creates this strange problem.
I need to start with Acrobat from the TCS2 DVD, because otherwise I do not get the correct implementation for working with FrameMaker.
I'm very reluctant to buy Acrobat X, for me there are too many gimmics there (besides the costs).

  • I am trying to save a large file on Illustrator CS6 and it does not save and instead says "Unknown Error Occurred." What do I do?

I am trying to save a large file on Illustrator CS6 and it does not save and instead says "Unknown Error Occurred." What do I do?
The file has 4 artboards with webpage designs. I tried to take two of the artboards, create a separate doc with those two, and save, but the result was the same.
However, I am able to save simpler, smaller files.
I need to not lose these files and I am afraid to quit and restart and lose my unfinished work.
    Any advice?

What happens if you choose this option?

  • Display As Text (Does Not Save State) Render Behaviour

I suppose this is directed more at the Oracle team members (as most of my posts are...) than anyone else, but others might find this interesting.
It would seem when an item has a type of "Display As Text (Does Not Save State)" the item's value is output as pure text which shows up as text nodes under the TD cell. However if there is anything in the "HTML Form Element Attribute" text field on the "Edit Page Item" page, the APEX rendering engine will output a span tag with those attributes around the value of the item. If the attribute is left null, no span tag is output.
Further more, the span tag does not have an ID attribute. One can also not set the "HTML Form Element" text box to contain the text 'id="" ' as APEX will throw an error stating that you can not specify the id attribute. So if someone would happen to want to access/change the value via JavaScript (say after an Ajax request of a hidden id change), it requires a hack (setting the TD cell's ID to the page item's name), DOM inspecting/sniffing, outputting an ugly disabled text element, altering the flows user's tables, or altering the render cache.
Is there any reason, why this span tag is not always output with the ID attribute set?

    Hello Andrew,
You are, of course, correct. The APEX engine does not use the item ID for the "Display as Text (does not save state)". However, if you need to manipulate the item, using JS, you can use the "Display as Text (save state)", which does use the item ID. The on-screen effect is the same, but the JS use is easier.
Your original question though, remains open.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • Why the "Actions" does not save the Overprint Black

    Hi!
    Ai CC 17.0.0
Why the "Actions" does not save the Overprint Black?
I can not create an action that will automate this time a very common activity?
    Why?
    Best Regards!

I was just able to. I am in Illustrator 6 on a Mac OS 10.6. I started a new action and went through the menu just like your screen shot, chose my options and clicked ok, then stopped recording the action.
I found to use the action I had to have something selected.
I see that you are in Illustrator CC, perhaps there is a difference there. But for the record, on my system, it worked.

  • Photoshop CS4 does NOT use RAM as scratch disk

Photoshop CS4 does NOT use RAM as scratch disk
as far as I can tell.
I have 20 GB RAM and still Photoshop uses the hard disk as scratch disk.
    (OS = Win 7 64).
Can I force the use of RAM as scratch disk?
    /Larry

    Hi PECourtejoie,
I really try to understand this, please.
I don't know if 'Hitting the hard disk brings unacceptable slowdowns in my workflow'.
Because I don't know what unacceptable slowdowns are.
Any operation in Phshp takes time, and you always want it to go as fast as possible..
I know that if Phshp only worked against RAM instead of constantly saving to (and reading from) the hard drive it ought to go faster.
But I still don't know if this is the case, because there is a constant use of a tempfile on the hard drive's Scratch disk!
So far I understand that Phshp may BOTH work in RAM AND save data to the hard drive Scratch disk.
It could be possible that the writing to the hard disk happens when Phshp is idle from other tasks and that the reading only happens when data has disappeared from the Cache in RAM.
That could be a scenario where a Scratch disk on Hard drive doesn't  interfere with Phshps performance, and an explanation why we should not bother about the Scratch disk on the hard drive.
But I would very much like to have some confirmation on this, IF this is the explanation of how the Scratch disk on a hard drive works without influencing Phshp's performance??
Everybody just seem to assume that Photoshop uses (some) parts of RAM as work space - I just need a better understanding of this. And some correct descriptions.
    /Larry

  • TS3274 Camera does not save photos to picture roll

I snap pictures and shoot video but it does not save to "Photos" camera roll.  This is a newly restored IPAD since I broke the screen on my old one.  Everything worked as expected on old one. I have everything "on" under privacy.

If you are sure that all privacy settings are correct including anything in Photos in restrictions, did you try quitting the camera app and rebooting the iPad?
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
