Illustrator CS4 file size extremely small

I am having issues with Illustrator creating file sizes that are only 100-200KB.  Any reason why?  And when I print, they are pixelated.

What's in the files? ANd waht exactly do you save?

  • How to reduce illustrator CS4 file size

    Hi,
How to reduce illustrator CS4 file size, the file size is alots bigger compare to art work done in indesign?

    Hi
Please follow this video tutorial and you will see a small thing can reduce the file size easily. It was really helpfull for me.
How to Reduce AI Vector file size: An Adobe illustrator Tutorial
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5m3TKrXE3g
My AI file size was not going under 1 MB even by deleting extras so what I did is I opened a raster small image of 100 kb with Adobe Illustrator. then deleted the image and saved the file as AI. Then I Copied the whole vector content of original AI file that was bigger then 1 MB with ctrl+c command and pasted it in the new file created with raster image. and saved it. Wow the new file size is only 137 kb now.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 File sizes are huge!

    Try this:
    open a new Illustrator document
create a simple box, black stroke, white fill
    save the file
you're looking at something like 1 Mb for these 4 anchor points and the fill and stroke definition!
now, back in Illustrator, downsave to Illustrator 3 format
file size is in around 6Kb - much better!
Okay, I know we can disable ICC profile embedding, PDF compatibility etc, but none of that even comes remotely close to the "correct" file size of < 10Kb.
C'mon Adobe, what are you putting in that CS5 file that's so darned important? This isn't a complex illustration with gradient masks, 3D transforms and thousands of points.
I get it, everyone has terrabyte drives and high-speed internet. Is that an excuse to make really inefficient file formats?

    hmmmm......
As Monika pointed out... deleting the defualt library items will make files sizes drastically smaller.
I'd guess that version 3, since it lacked the ability to work in preview mode, didn't save file previews with the file either... that could easily account for 50kb.

  • File size extremely high for .avi after render PE 9

I'm very new to PE and have tried to learn quick to redact info (faces etc) in .avi files for a government agency. I was able to open the file (in the trial version) and make the track matte by dragging the original file to the timeline then dragging it again to the video 2 timeline for the top layer, Question 1) is this the same as copy and paste or am I doubling the size already? Anyway, I was able to get the matte and everything done. Now, to Render and save... I choose computer/avi again (I need to keep it the same) and it took 1 hr 45 min to render it, that seemed long to me but maybe not... but mainly the file size was then 100,883 kb! Starting with a 29.7 kb file. This is what my question is about....could this be right? I can't use it if this is what I get. So, here are the particulars as I got G-spot and looked it up, as per serveral suggestions I saw here. I'm trying to understand the CODEC info but I fear I have a ways to go before I can figure out what I did wrong. (This is my test computer, the future work would be done on a newer, better computer).  The videos I would be working with come from various sources and will vary in length but will probably all be a kind of avi.

I appreciate any help you can give

Thanks for you response and the information was very helpful. I was able to choose and output that gave me a good file size and I do want DV-AVI (I don't remember what I chose but it worked) but, I don't see an option for DV-AVI - is that a general DV output selection, because there seem to be numerous (AVCHD, NTSC, DV STANDARD) acronyms (I have tried to understand what each is) which do I want?

For the use of Track Matte Keying, with say a Gaussian Blur, or maybe Moasic Effect, if you have not altered the In & Out Points, then just dragging the Asset to both Video 1 and Video 2 will work fine. If you HAVE adjusted the In & Out Points, you can just click-drag from the Source Monitor, where you set those In & Out Points, and all is good. The Copy/Paste is just another way to do it.
As you are doing an "overlay," the output File Size will not be affected in any way. You are also limiting the Blur, or Effect on Video 2 to just the area "exposed" by the Track Matte, so the pixel count will not be altered.
As Steve points out, the output CODEC in the AVI will determine the output File Size. File Size is basically determined by the Timeline's Duration and by the Bit-Rate of the output file. With DV-AVI, that Bit-Rate is pretty well set, and your Timeline determines the Duration. At ~ 13GB/hour, a DV-AVI will be pretty large, but that is the nature of the beast. Also, and as Steve points out, if you are going to do additional editing, and will be Importing that file into a New Project, DV-AVI is about as good, as it gets.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Illustrator CS4 file save delay

    Hello,
When I save a file out of Illustrator CS4 as an AI, EPS or PDF file it takes about 30 seconds for the Illustrator save options dialogue box to pop up. It does not matter how small or large the file is. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator with no sucsess. This just started happening within the last week with no changes to my system.
    Thank you,
    John Holland

That was it! I changed my default printer back from the new network printer and the delay is gone! Thank you so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    John

  • Why is the file size so small?

Why is a certain file of about 40 MB that I created, possibly with InDesign CS2, reduced to about 6 MB when I open and rename it using "save as" in InDesign CS4? The 40 MB and 6 MB versions both look identical on the screen and when printed. This just recently happened with one particular file, but not with a similar file. They both contain numerous linked Photoshop images.
I understand that using "save as" deletes possible "undo's" and can reduce the file size. Also, the newer version of InDesign could create a smaller file. But 85% smaller? And why no significant reduction in a similar file.
I don't imagine you often hear complaints about files being too small, but this really has me confused. Anyone ever heard of a similar problem?

Many applications do a "fast save". This includes Acrobat and Word for example. The quick save writes new stuff to the end of the file, making the file larger every time even if you delete things. Some apps use "Save as" to go through and do a slower save of only the things still used. I don;t actually know if InDesign works this way but it's quite likely. Fast save also has the advantage that it's much less likely to corrupt the file you are overwriting.

  • Why is the exported file size so small?

    Hello!
I just spent the last few days watching about three hours of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 tutorials and almost all five hours of the Adobe Encore CS3 tutorials on Lynda.com with the awesome 30-day trial that I received for purchasing these two programs. I pretty much got to the end of authoring my first DVD with Encore, but the file size is so small that it doesn't even take up the full size of a single-layer DVD and I was expecting to be using double-layer DVDs.
Here's why I didn't post this in the Encore discussion: My two file sizes are 10GB and 8GB. I have them both as single timelines in Premiere Pro and exported them each to Encore. But why does the file size decrease to just over 1GB for each of the files in the Export to Encore option in Premiere Pro CS3?
I begin a brand new project in Premiere Pro, import the 10GB .avi, and then do the Export to Encore with "DVD Double Layer", "Author with Menus", "Entire Sequence", "NTSC High Quality" with the quality level switched from 4 to 5, Video Codec = "MainConcept MPEG Video", 720x480, 29.97 drop frame, Lower, Standard 4:3, VBR, 2 Pass, the default bitrate settings of Minimum Bit Rate = 1.5, Target Bit Rate = 4, Maximum Bit Rate = 7, and then whatever GOP Settings are set to M Frames = 3 and N Frames = 15. Without any video editing at all, it estimates the file size at 1.7GB.
If my goal is to get the file sizes closer to 4GB and 3.5GB, can I fiddle with any of these settings without screwing up the ability for all DVD players to read my disc? I thought it would probably be ideal to have them closer to 7GB and 6GB, and then let Encore downgrade the quality to fit all of the content on the DVD with very little room to spare. But why is there no default to keep the video resolution at the absolute best possible?
Should I be exporting to a Movie instead of exporting to Encore?
    Thanks!
    Matt

  • Illustrator CS4: Images Open 3x Smaller than Original

Every time I open an image in Illustrator, it is 3-times smaller than the original image started out.
    For example:
An image starting out with the dimensions:
    Width: 5.35 inches / 1070 px / 385.2 pt
    Height: 5.24 inches / 1048 px / 377.3 pt
Once it is opened up in Illustrator the dimensions are contorted to:
    Width: 1.93 inches / 386 px / 139 pt
    Height: 1.89 inches / 378 px / 136.1 pt
And this is just from opening the image. I have not done anything as of yet. All I have to look at is a distorted pixelated mess.
I am a bit new to Illustrator, and after hearing my friends talk about how great it is to use, none of them can figure out why Illustrator is doing this to my image files.
Why is Illustrator doing this, and how do I get it to open image files with the proper dimensions?

Dimensions of an image depends on its resolution. When viewing the image in an image editor it just displays 1 image pixel on 1 monitor pixel. Illustrator doesn't do this, but takes into account, what you have defined as resolution. That is: how many pixels should be on 1 inch.

  • Merge Illustrator cs4 file with new document

    Hi all,
I recently got an 'unknown error has occured' with a file I have been working on in Illustrator CS4.  I remember there was a way where you could open a new Illustrator document and drag the file with the error into the new document, but from there I do not know how to merge this in where we can get back the layers and objects from the file with the error unto the new file.  Does anyone have some instructions on how to merge the document in?  Thanks in advance.
    pwitman

    Hi,
I tried saving the file into a PDF after opening it up in Acrobat, but I got this error when trying to save "The document could not be saved.  There was a problem reading this document (109)."  But when I drag the file into a opened new document in Illustrator cs4, it would load up, however I don't know the steps to merge or group the objects and layers back into the new document.  Could anyone provide me the steps on how to do this?  Thanks.

  • Why is the Photoshop font size extremely small for their navigation menus and tools?

Why is the font size for the Photoshop Cloud navigation menus and tools displaying extremely small on my laptop? I can barely see them. The other Adobe Cloud applications don't display small.

Is a readable interface an unreasonable expectation?
Not at all, and we should well expect that Adobe is working on it.  By their own admission they ARE working on it.  I don't sense "deafening silence" at all.  But results won't/can't be instantaneous and they're not going to promise you release dates.  Life is not like that, no matter how many times you click your red shoes together.
It's not hard to understand that right now only a small minority of Photoshop users are running high dpi screens that can't take advantage of the 200% setting.  And it was the choice of those users to buy such hardware even in light of the fact that Photoshop can't work fully well on it yet.  Adobe didn't force anyone to buy a 150 ppi display.
Frankly, if you've chosen such hardware even though Photoshop doesn't offer 150% scaling, it's your own fault.  I recently invested well over $1000 in a new monitor and I planned well enough ahead to buy a 100ppi model (Dell U3014, and it's GREAT).  There's a reason that very new technology is called "bleeding edge".  If you want "To Work" instead of "Dealing With Quirks", sometimes you have to be conservative.
A majority of Photoshop users DO expect new and useful features, however, such as new tools, new camera support in Camera Raw, etc., so Adobe understandably cannot dedicate every resource they have to revamping Photoshop's user interface just for a special few folks who have irresponsibly adopted new display technology.
We can debate all day how much Adobe ought to be spending on engineering development, but you and I don't run the company.  We don't make business decisions for them.  I do, however, claim to understand their capabilities and limitations - possibly better than most - because I'm in the same business.
I can only recommend you be patient.  One day Photoshop will respond to your desktop settings.
What the heck has anybody ever accomplished here, with Adobe, in either fashion?
Rhetorical or not, some quite tangible things do come to mind...
At one time I couldn’t paste my clipboard containing a grayscale image into a new document via an action assigned to a key; the color engine would crash.  Today I can do so without incident.
At one time multiple Help windows would pop up unexpectedly, often when working in the Styles panel.  Today they don’t.
At one time I had to select Basic GPU mode.  Today I use Advanced GPU mode without a problem.
Once running Liquify or Smart Sharpen or a number of other things were slow, especially on big images.  Now they're quite fast, with GPU acceleration.
At one time an action could not write data back to a document when in windowed mode.  Today it works.
At one time panorama stitching and focus stacking did not work.  Now it works.
At one time most filters only worked on 8 bits/channel data.  Now many of them can handle 16 bits/channel.
Once naysayers predicted that the Photoshop Photography bundle would shoot up in price.  Yet today it's still $9.99 a month.
Once it was impossible to read Photoshop's UI on a 200+ ppi screen.  Now there's a new 200% setting for that.
I'm sure I can think of other things.  And of course the software isn't perfect today.  It never will be absolutely perfect.
Station_two, are you keeping up with the latest Photoshop releases?  If not, I submit that your rhetoric may be falling out of date.

  • Using CMAppUtil file size is smaller when converted

I'm new to using technet forums so if my question is in the wrong place I apologize.  I've just started using SCCM for Mac deployments and have a question regarding the file size after conversions using CMAppUtil.
I've used CMAppUtil on a couple of .dmg's and the converted .cmmac files is within a couple of mb's of the original, so I am presumming they are ok.  However I've just converted Adobe CS 6 using CMAppUtil and the file size is incredibly small, the CS6.dmg
is approx 6GB, the converted file is just under 900MB, seems far too small to be a complete installer.  Without actually deploying the file I have no idea, our server is still in the construction phase for use with Mac's but I'm trying to get
a handle on the conversion process and learning how to create deployment applications/packages while it is completed.
Is there a file size limitation with CMAppUtil?  Is the converted file compressed when it is large?  I haven't been able to find a lot of information on CMAppUtil online so I'm hoping someone can answer this question for me.  I converted the
file a few times to see if it was failing or ending early but each time it is the same size.  The other though I have is that it does convert to a .app.cmmac file not a .pkg.cmmac file so is it simply creating an installer that will run out to the
web for the balance of the installation files?
    Thanks in advance

I have always been able to Right Click and Open With Illustrator CS4 to open and edit PDFs.
Recently I get an error window stating File Cound Not Be Found.
I can open it with no issue going through the File>Open....preocedure.
    Ideas to fix?

I deleted and attemped to recreate the file association.
I had some success.  The file could not be found message is gone and Illustratro opens.  However, it open to a blank document with the start screen up.
It is the same thing as if i had just opened Illustrator from the .exe icon, but the file I wanted to work with does not appear, so i then have to go through the open command and find the file.
    Suggestions please?

    Hi,
I been using an oracle form in my work, in my computer office I have linux Installed (Ubuntu 10.04.4) and the oracle form opens just fine. now I seen myself on the need of connecting from my home to the office sometimes, the problem I have is that in home computer the oracle form when in open the size too small and I cant work like that, is there something I can avoid using a remote desktop, since this is the only way I have been able to work from my home.

What software do you need to run on the remote system? If the remote software does not provide any kind of remote access and remote desktop sharing does not fit your needs, perhaps SSH with X Forwarding can. SSH is often accepted through Firewalls and can be a solution if you need to run some X11 client residing on a remote system. If you need more help, please provide more details about your problem.
