Illustrator CS4 hex color shifts again

In  cs4 Illustrator on mac
Color settings:North Amer/Internet
Document Color Mode: RGB
Proof Setup: Monitor RGB
Proof Colors: Checked
When I make a web safe colour in my color picker (example #0088CE) the number is fine when measured with the Digital Color meter. But once it is placed in the swatches pallette or on an object on the desktop the color shifts and consequently passed onto "save to web". Photoshop CS4 seems to be fine still though... What's up???

Our small group just figured this out. Maybe because of the upgrade things get reset, I don't know for sure... but under EDIT>Assign Profile... my setting was for "Don't color manage tihs doc...". I didn't know this was here before and I dont understand why it wouldn't automatically change when choosing my "Color Settings" to 2.1 (or Internet/Web N. Amer). Soooooo, when you change it to 2.1 HERE TOO the proof colors check/uncheck works resulting the hex on screen to match the save for web output. Anyone in Adobe have a suggestion or instruction where this can all be changed in one place so it stays this way for us web peeps on all our documents? Sick of checking these settings yo.

  • LR 2.5 to CS3, fine; to CS4 has color shift..?

    hi everybody-
    MBpro, 2 monitors all calibrated.  my workflow with CS3 was just fine, but after a recent upgrade to CS4 my images have a distinct color shift that looks like a profile mismatch.  i'll have my CS4 image floating over the LR window and there's an obvious shift.  if i output and open the same image the same way in CS3 it matches perfectly.  perhaps i'll cross post this to photoshop forums, but there seems to be an issue with how i've set up CS4 color spaces as opposed to CS3, even though they seem to have identical settings.  any ideas?

    okay, i figured it out, thought i'd post my solution here if anyone else has this issue.  in CS4 there's a new option in preferences>performance.  for my rig (MBpro17, 2.4ghz, samsung syncmaster 215) i had to turn OFF "enable openGL drawing".  now the colors from LR to CS4 match just fine, as they should.  what the #@&%!!
    now, what was i doing again?

  • Illustrator CS4 New Color Swatches Keep Shifting Values

    Hi.  I really need some help.  I created 8 major panel designs for my first-ever tee shirts.  For this project, I added up to 70+ colors to my existing standard CMYK swatch library, by naming them and marking them for global.  Just to be on the safe side, I also made up my own directory in a separate document by making squares with their names next to them.  I transferred these to each new document I created.  I did all of this in Illustrator 10.
    I finally got to upgrade several months ago to the Design Suite CS4 -  Hooray!  No problem in converting my files.  I am having my tees printed in the direct-digital-to-fabric method.  My printer said that I could change all my CMYK colors to RGB for a more vibrant rendering.  And so I went in to each of my colors and manually changed them to RGB.  I also changed my document format to RGB.
    Several weeks ago, my eye registered that my favorite red didn't seem as red any more.  And so it wasn't!  I checked my swatch, and it was way off my original settings.  So I changed them.  The change didn't keep.  It turns out that almost all of my colors were off their original CMYK settings!
    So I started over again, by taking each color, and in most cases, making up a new color swatch with a slightly revised name.  I made sure the colors reflected accurately both the CMYK and the RGB percentages.  I DID NOT want to select as a spot color.  Therefore, I kept the "Process" format, but selected RGB.  I also deleted the old color swatch.
    But the problem was still there -- within a span of several minutes, my "Red" changed both in the CMYK and RGB percentages,  I checked 15 other colors I had just created, and their percentages were off also.
    Needless to say, it is very important to me that my colors hold their value.
    I thank you in advance for considering my challenge.

    Kelly,
    And so I went in to each of my colors and manually changed them to RGB.  I also changed my document format to RGB.
    Pick (almost) any colour in a document with CMYK Color Mode, copy into a document with RGB Color Mode, and see a change.
    In other words: if you want to keep the colours, keep the colour mode; if you want to change the colour mode, recreate the colours, and expect some differences.
    My printer said that I could change all my CMYK colors to RGB for a more vibrant rendering.
    Maybe your printer needs a vibrant rendering, with a boot.
    If the meaning was that the RGB colour gamut is larger, and therefore capable of more, and more vibrant, colours, which is true, that is what should have been said. It would imply creating new, fresh colours.

  • Illustrator CS4, new Pantone color books, color channel issue

    Since I installed the new Pantone color books, I've been running in a major issue which will affect our whole production line.
    If an Illustrator CS4 file contains a Photoshop CS4 image which is using an "old" Pantone color in a color channel, it cannot be opened and I get an error message "File is unreadable". If I replace the "old" Pantone colour with its new equivalent in the color channel in Photoshop, the file can be opened normally.
    In our work environment, this means going through all our images to check which one is using a color channel. A painful and time wasting procedure. Furthermore, if one of our suppliers doesn't have the new color books, they won't be able to open any of the files, both Photoshop and Illustrator, so they have no way to revert back to the old Pantone.
    Is there another way to fix this?
    Thank you

    More on the Pantone PLUS saga, hoping to get some input from the users of this forum. I find their silence deafening, to say the least. This is a serious issue, that will cost our agency hours and hours of work if it isn't addressed. And we've already wasted hours of troubleshooting and discussions on how we could resolve it.
    We're actually testing a workaround: using both the old and the new libraries in Illustrator. After consulting our suppliers, we've learned that this is what they also do. For them, it's a one shot to get the file to print. For us, it means cheating with files that will get edited again in the future. And the Pantone installer removes the old Pantone books from the Adobe folders for a reason which is mentioned on the download page:
    The reason that the PANTONE Color Libraries that had been built into Illustrator need to be removed and replaced with the PANTONE PLUS Color Libraries is that, in Illustrator, a PANTONE Color can only have one data point with which it is associated. In the short term, in order to benefit from the new colors and data associated in PLUS, the PANTONE Libraries that are installed with Adobe Illustrator are removed and replaced with the new PLUS Libraries.
    http://www.pantone.com/pages/Pantone/Pantone.aspx?pg=20721&ca=1
    I worry this may lead to another bunch of issue, knowing how easily AI files get corrupted. What I need to know is:
    What is the exact meaning of the Pantone warning about the "one data point per color?
    What are the long term implications of using both Pantone libraries in an Adobe file? Or in the Adobe app?

  • Illustrator CS4 is extremely slow, color wheel rotating all the time

    Illustrator CS4 (14.0.0) is running extremely slow on my MacBook Pro. The color wheel is rotating and keeps me waiting almost after every click, although everything is working fine, no crashes or whatsoever.
    I have no other application running at the same time, I chose "performance" over battery lifetime in the system preferences, deleted the "Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings" in the preferences folder for a fresh start, work only from my local HD, have only 60 fonts installed - but no improvement.
    Even if I have a new document with only one object in it, this goes very slow.
    Does anyone have an idea what I could do - that would be appreciated very much.
    MacBook Pro 15" 2010, 4GB, GeForce 9400M+9600M GT, HD 500GB (7200rpm)

    That are 2 very good leads, but unfortunately I already tested that: I uninstalled all fonts, so there are only system fonts left - no improvement. I also started the admin account without any start elements (pressing "shift" during boot) - no improvement. The processes (all of them) except Illustrator are all at 0%, some can reach 0,7% - only Illustrator itself is at 100,4% for these few seconds. There is no difference between the admin account and the second user account regarding the Activity Monitor.
    But the solution must be somewhere in the difeerence between the two accounts - user preferences, application support files, ???

  • Color Shift in CS4 on Mac

    Lately I've noticed an odd color shift when opening an image in CS4 from either Lightroom or PhotoMechanic.  Photos tend to become darker and more saturated.
    This is equally noticeable the other way - when I edit an image in Photoshop, save and then view again in either Lightroom or Photomechanic, or even my own website.  Finished photos have taken on an odd green cast when viewed outside CS4.
    I have begun using more Camera Raw lately vs. JPEG.  Currently using Mac 10.5.8 and CS4 version 11.0.2
    Thanks for any advice.
    DDS

    Thanks again for the reply.  I'm not sure that I'm any closer to understanding though.  I will look into some more info in terms of books, etc.
    Basically when I shoot, I shoot a combination RAW +JPEG.  Only about 25% of what I shoot ends up being printed.  Most is for web use.  I most often edit the JPEG and only edit the RAW file when something looks unusual (white balance off, exposure, etc).  I preview all of my files in PhotoMechanic and export to Photoshop for all editing.  Edited files are then saved and uploaded to website and occasionally printed.
    Therefore, the only software (apps?) I use are PhotoMechanic and Photoshop.  Photomechanic is showing the green-ish images as seen in your previous example.  When I go to the PhotoMechanic preferences, this is what I get.  The second image is from the drop-down menu.
    Is this where I would make these adjustments?

  • Major color shifts during softproofing in CS4

    Hi All,
    I'm new here and looking for some help.   I'm running CS4 on MacOS 10.5.8.  I'm not new to color management but am having a problem with a particular output profile that's driving me nuts.
    I usually print at home, and get fantastic results using my home work-flow (and yes, my monitor is calibrated) but recently decided to try my local Costco for printing.
    My working space is adobeRGB--I work on my file, save a copy as a tiff and then softproof using the Nortisu profile provided by Dry Creek photo for my local Costco.  After soft proofing, I flatten, crop, resize and sharpen and then convert to the image to the Costco profile without the embedded colorspace.
    My issue is when I softproof with one image, I get a major color shift--if there's a way to post the file, I'd be happy too.  It turns a lime green frog into a greenish mustard color and I can't recover the color with any amount of adjustment (primarily with selective color channels with hue/saturation and curves layers).  Most of my other photos have very subtle shifts in contrast and brightness, but no major color shifts.
    Any ideas--I know they are using Fuji Crystal Archive paper and an 80,000 dollar Noritsu printer so I wouldn't think I would have huge out of gamut issues, but maybe that's the case?
    Thanks for your help and if there's a way to attach the original file so people can see the softproof themselves, let me know.
    Cheers,
    Gabriel.

    Tai Lao,
    I'm confused--I am embedding the aRGB file into my original file.  Next I am working on a copy of that image which I soft proof with the Costco Noritsu profile.  Only after I have worked on the color shifted image to I convert the profile from aRGB to the Costo profile, so at no point is there no embedded profile in the actual file.  Now, I did do an out of gamut check and lo and behold, the lime green (and that's the best discription of the frog's overall color) was completely out of gamut...what strikes me is that the color shift is so completely extreme!
    Anyway, I'll have to try the color swatch option to choose an in gamut color which I hope closely resembles the color seen in the aRGB image...my question now is how do I view the color swatch!?
    Here's another question--I assumed that sRGB has a narrower gamut than the printers profile, yet when I soft proof the aRGB embedded image using sRGB the color shift is not nearly as extreme.  That's why I feel like something funky is going on using the costco Profile (which is downloaded from Dry Creek to answer someone elses question).  Why would a narrower color space, such as sRGB, retain more of the file's original color than a wider color space, like the Costco Noritsu profile?
    OK...thanks for everyone's help again.
    Gabriel.

  • PSD Spot Color Channels in Illustrator CS4

    Hi all.
    Screenprinter here. Trying to migrate my way into CS4. No such
    luck so far.
    Way back in Illustrator CS2 I used to be able to place a PSD file with Spot Channels,
    and have each channel show up as a separate object in Illustrator. This was incredibly
    useful, nay, necessary for creating/laying out separations and adding vector work.
    From what I've read and tried, this is no longer possible in CS4, which leaves me running two versions,
    which is no fun.
    I suppose my question is, has anyone come up with a workaround for this, or does the newest
    release support this type of operation? From reading the boards, I've found that I'm not nearly
    the only person who needs this feature, and so would hope that there is an alternative to
    running CS2 still.
    Us poor lowly screen printers get dumped on by nearly all Adobe products in terms of usability
    (ever shoot the stock reg marks from photoshop?) give us this one feature!

    In Illustrator CS2, the individual Spot Channels from Photoshop used to become Opacity masks when imported.
    In Illustrator CS4, they are not converted to Opacity masks. Your spot colors are still there - look in the Swatches panel. There is a Spot channels image in the layers panel with 100% Multiply blend mode applied to it.
    So it is not correct to say that it is no longer possible to bring spot channels from Photoshop into the Illustrator CS4. See the comparison snapshots below.
    Hope this helps.

  • Creating spot color in Illustrator CS4 js

    Hi,
    I need to create spot color in Illustrator CS4 with js, with assigned name and color values. Here what I have:
    myColor = myDoc.spots.add({name:"FOIL", colorValue:[10, 0, 100, 0]});
    But it comes out as process instead of spot and the color is not assigned.
    Thank you for your help.
    Yulia

    the add function has no parameters, you have to add them after
    addSpot ('FOIL', 10, 0, 100, 0);
    function addSpot(name, c, m, y, k) {
        try {
            swatch = app.activeDocument.swatches[name]; // if swatch exists....
            addSpot (name+='1', c, m, y, k); // ...add 1 to swatch name
        catch (e) {
            var newSpot = app.activeDocument.spots.add();
            newSpot.name = name;
            var newColor = new CMYKColor();
            newColor.cyan = c;
            newColor.magenta = m;
            newColor.yellow = y;
            newColor.black = k;
            newSpot.colorType = ColorModel.SPOT;
            newSpot.color = newColor;
            var newSpotColor = new SpotColor();
            newSpotColor.spot = newSpot;

  • Illustrator CS4 install error: Color EU settings

    Hi everyone,
    I've been trying to install Illustrator CS4 for the past few days, I have updated my DirectX and all my VGA drivers in hopes of getting it to work.
    Every time I try, I end up with this error message:
    "Error:

    What on earth is this Adobe Color EU extra settings? Any chance I can delete them manually??
    Here are my PC specs:
    OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
    VGA: Nvidia Asus EN7600GS 512mb (with latest drivers and DirectX 10)
    Free Disk space on Install drive: 12GB
    Oh well, I hope somebody here know whats going on..
    Cheers,
    Ahsu

    Color Profile information installed by a previous version of Adobe programs. Check C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color and C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color, but before dig into the install log to exactly find out what it is trying to delete. It's located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers and either ends with *.log or *.log.gz. There should be a mention of "Failure" regarding the deletion of the files in question somewhere in it.

  • Color "shifted" in CS4 RAW files

    Hello everyone.
    Ill try to explain my problem. Until last year I used ACR (combined with Bridge CS3) to color manage my images. Then I would convert them to DNG using the Adobe DNG Converter, and bring them into iMatch (www.photools.com), which is the program I use to manage my image database. I would work with a calibrated monitor, and a sRGB color profile.
    The DNG images would look the same in Bridge and iMatch, and if I extracted the JPG preview from any DNG image it would also look the same.
    This year I bought a new laptop and a CS4 license (previously I was doing the CS3 work using a license from the place I work at). Ive calibrated my laptop screen with a Pantone Huey Pro screen calibrator.
    When I open my images in CS4 the color in all of them looks "shifted", as if the white balance was off. They look consistently greenish and somewhat washed out. This happens in Bridge, ACR and Photoshop.
    However, if I open any of the JPG images (the ones that I created extracting the preview from the DNG files) they look the way they should. So from this I can infer that it can't be a screen calibration problem (otherwise both the JPG and its DNG counterpart would look wrong, instead of just the DNG).
    So it seems like CS4 is rendering the DNG images differently than it should. But I havent been able to find out how to correct the problem.
    Some other info: In the ACR flyout menu I have Image Settings selected, and under the Camera Calibration I have Embedded selected. Ive already tried (at the suggestion of Adobe support) to reset the Bridge preferences by holding CTRL+Shift when Bridge loads, but this hasnt corrected the problem.
    Also, here are my system specs,:
    - Precision M6400: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600(2.4GHz,1066MHz,3MB)
    - Display : 17in Widescreen WUXGA (1920X1200)
    - Memory : 4096MB (2x2048) 1067MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
    - Graphics card: 1GB NVIDIA Quadro FX3700M (with 1GB dedicated memory)
    - Hard Drive : 200GB Serial ATA (7200RPM)
    - Operating System : WXP Pro SP3
    I have already contacted Adobe support about this a few days ago, but so far no luck. So I thought Id try the forums as well and see if anyone here has any theories as to what the problem could be. Im stuck until Im able to solve this, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    I'm still having trouble with this same issue, wondering if anyone has further thoughts.
    I've read some of the similar threads, like: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1203718 and  http://forums.adobe.com/message/1203965
    But I'm still confused.
    I hadn't noticed the color shifts in Bridge being so pronounced until recently.  So maybe something got inadvertently reset?
    It would be a bad idea to change my computer's color profile to generic sRGB (as someone suggested), since I have a good calibrated color profile via the Gretag MacBeth (yeah, it's older) EyeOne Display. I've used that calibration device for years, updating every 6-12 months. Never been a problem.
    It doesn't make any sense to me that Bridge should alter the colors of thumbnails/previews for RAW images (from the very good looking camera setting) before I even open Camera Raw to work on the RAW images.  I don't work on every single RAW image, and doubt anyone does.  But if I have 50 landscape shots, and the mere act of looking at their previews in Bridge turns all their skies unnaturally purple (which is currently happening), I lose any visual record of what the skies really looked like -- or at least a much closer approximation.
    My Canon 40D's jpg previews for RAW images are quite good when they initially show up in Bridge.  I'd really like to keep them until I work in Camera Raw, to give me a good visual memory starting point until I can get to work in ACR.  Sometimes I don't start serious work on an image for many months after shooting.
    Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it also doesn't make sense to me that a solution is to make a new Camera Raw default based on a photo I've worked on in ACR, because the color settings always depend on the lighting situation a photo was taken in, don't they? How could a daylight photo's settings be right for an indoor or sunset shot with totally different lighting and color temps?
    Bottom line question:  Is there any way to prevent Bridge from altering the color in thumbnails/previews of RAW images before you've worked on the images in Camera Raw?  (Even if you click on a thumbnail to see the preview in Bridge, I mean.)
    Thank you very much!!!

  • CS4 to CS5: Jagged edges and color shift

    Hello, world!
    I have a problem when I try to open Flash CS4 file in CS5. In the workspace, the edges of shapes become jagged, and the colors shift.

  • Color Shift with ProPhot RGB in CS4

    When I had CS3 I would be able to open a RAW image in Photoshop with the ProPhoto RGB color space. I would then change the color space as needed.
    In CS4, I am using the 64-bit version, and there is a color shift when I open a RAW image in Photoshop with ProPhoto color space. The color is desaturated.
    There is no color sift when I open the same image using Adobe RGB.
    Why is this happening?
    Lynnea

    There is a color shift when the Photoshop color space is set as ProPhoto (Edit>Color Settings) and the RAW color space to open in Photoshop is set as ProPhoto.
    There is no color shift if RAW color space is Adobe RGB and the Photoshop is set with ProPhoto (Edit>Color Settings).
    But, when I save the image, the color space in file information as seen in Bridge is Adobe RGB.
    Could this be connected to GPU and "Move Color Matching to the GPU?"
    I have seen comments concerning GPU and color sifts, but I don't really understand them.
    It is frustrating since I do calibrate my monitor and have seen some of the images in both CS3 and now CS4 and thus can see the difference.
