Illustrator CS4 removing artboards when i save and re-open the file

I'm using Illustrator CS4 and have multiple artboards set up in a single .ai file. The problem is when I save the .ai file and then close it, when I reopen the file it removes all instances of my previous artboards and replaces it with a single one. Why is this happening? It just started doing this - I was able to open up the file previously and maintain my current list of artboards.

Any chance you are saving in CS3 format? Or starting from a CS3 document?

  • Stereo Audio channel turns to mono when I close and re-open the project

    Hi there,
when I import a random video file with stereo audio channels and put it to the timeline (after peaking), everything works allright - the recording level window shows me the left and the right audio channel.
But when I save and close the project in order to re-open it directly, I only got a mono audio channel (left) and the stereo is away in my timeline and recording level window. The preview of the imported video ist still ok with stereo sound.
Is this a bug ? What can do? Please help me.
    Thanks a lot

Are you clearing your recent history either manually or when you close Firefox?

Windows 2008 R2 - I just started receiving this when i log in, and also when i try to manage the machine:
    MMC Cannot open the File:
    C:\Windows\system32\ServerManager.msc
This may be because the file does not exist , is not an MMC console , or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file.
This always worked before, and works for other users just not me on this particular box. This is a production box and i need a resolution quick please. Thanks in advance.

  • Why does'nt a pdf file sent to me open automatically. I have to open adobe software first and then open the file.

Why cant a pdf file open automatically.I have to first open adobe software and then open the document.

All files have their "native" application. Without the application the file cannot be created.
Once created the file must have the native application to be "opened".
For the application to do that first to open is the software (application).

  • Missing Conref when I save and reopen an .xml file in FM9

I am running FM9 on Windows 7. We have been using the template and rules files shipped with FM9 and modifying them for our needs. Currently I am experiencing an issue and I'm not at all sure how to resolve it.
I have two pieces of DITA content, they are both reference files created by using the DITA menu and creating a new <reference> file. I have entered my structured content into the two files and I want to include a conref from the source document B into my document A. I insert the conref into document A using the FM DITA menu and save both files as .xml. The files save without any errors. When I open document A the conref text is missing and all that is left is a blank reference element (created by the insertion of the conref). If I open the source document everything is fine. I also have an xref in document A and that seems to be working fine. My coworker is having the exact same issue. I am referencing a reference element with an unordered list.
Also, if I save file A as .fm the conref stays which leads me to believe it has something to do with how FrameMaker is reading the .xml file.
    Any assistance would be appreciated,
    Laura

    Hi Laura...
If the "auto-load conrefs" option is off, your conrefs will not be rendered. This is "as designed" so that you can disable the conref updating if it's taking too long to rebuild all of the conrefs each time you open a file.. The "auto-load xrefs" option should work the same way, although this may have changed in FM9 since all xrefs are really "fm-xrefs" inside of FM. If the xrefs are rendering the same regardless of the option's setting, then that's a bug (I'd think).
So .. with the auto-load option enabled, your conrefs are working?

  • When I save a PDF report the file name is xdo instead of "report name.pdf"

    Hi,
I started a new project with BI Publisher integrated with OBIEE, I builded a set of reports that are working properly (these are the first reports on this OBIEE/BIP server)
Accessing Oracle BI Cataloge I can run the reports and change the output format to pdf.
when I press the right mouse button and select "save as" a dialog box appears.
On the "File name" field, the default name that BIP writes is "xdo" I would like it to be the "name of the report.pdf".
It seems that if I create a new report the file name is correct but if I change the name of the report then BIP always selects XDO as the default file name.
Is there any place where I can configure the default name.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I figured out how to get the desired results by using tagging.  For anyone who may reference this post in the future, I went to "Customize" in the top right corner of Adobe, then selected "Create new tool set...", looked under "accessiblity and found the "tag" option.  Hit ok, tag is added to the toolbar.  Then I highlighted the dataset in the PDF that was relevant to the output format, then clicked "tag", saved as spreadsheet.  Sorry I can't provide more details on how tagging works or if there's a more elegant solution available, but I'm sure one's out there.

I copied index.xml from other default template, and changed my broken xml.
After compressed to .iba again, it opend.

  • Why does Illustrator CS4 merge layers when saving document?

Woking in Illustrator CS4, I have a document with four layers.  The first three contain (1) Background (2) Background effects (3) Pictures and the (4) contains text.  When I save the document and then re-open it, all the layers have been merged into the latest, 4th layer.  All the previous layers are empty.  It's as if everything has been grouped into the text layer, no element can be independently selected, and it is therefore impossible to do further work on the document.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening?  Am I not saving this correctly?
And even more important, is there any way of restoring the different layers once this has happened?

Can anyone tell me why this is happening?  Am I not saving this correctly?
Well, to what format are you saving? The native AI format should always retain layers. Other formats such as EPS or older PDF Levels may indeed enforce flattening. also make sure you are not confusing layers with groups/ objects. There's a crucial difference between the two.
And even more important, is there any way of restoring the different layers once this has happened?
Well, you can manually add new layers and drag&drop your objects and groups into the new layers in the layers panel, but if you save it again to the wrong file format, that is wasted effort, so for the life of it make sure you get that figured out first.

  • Illustrator changes my document when I save it

    Howdy all
I have started using Illustrator literally just the other day. I'm a music composition student and I need to colour-code the notes (we're encouraged to be "avant garde").
Anyway, my actual problem is that I open up a pdf page in Illustrator, successfully change all the notes to being the right colour (Illustrator reads the notes as objects or fonts I think), but when I open the file again later after saving it, all the notes I have edited have disappeared. A couple times they haven't disappeared altogether, but have instead been replaced by little triangle shapes above where the note would be (in music notation I would call the triangles 'marcatos'; they look somewhat like this : < only rotated).
Could anyone offer any insight as to why this would happen? I don't really even know where to begin. I've played around with the save settings and RBG templates or what-have-you, thinking it might be saving the colours wrong, but that didn't help (although I must admit I didn't know what I was doing or even what I was trying to do).
If anyone could help me get it to save these in colour it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately the notation software exports in PDF, and it's also the format I'm required to have my finished project in.
I've only just got into the computer lab again today and I've actually found that if I change the colour of one note it removes all the notes, even the ones I haven't edited, which seems strange to me but I think it's because PDFs don't recognize transparency information in some way?
Where is the Include Illustrator Editing Capability box that I am to check?
Is there a way I can save it in AI format and then conver tthe AI file to a PDF (I realise that to a certain extent that's what I'm trying to do in the first place.)
I just want my PDF to have colour! Shouldn't this be more intuitive?

  • My Adobe Illustrator is CS6 and it corrupts the file if I save it using accents

My Adobe Illustrator is CS6 and it corrupts the file if I save it using accents. How do I fix this?
I mean, if I save a file called "crachá" I'm using an accent on "a" so it showed as "á" but if I do this Illustrator says the following error:
"The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different foulder"
and when I try to open it says:
"The file "Crachá.ai" is in an unknown format and cannot be opened."
So, my solution is to create a new file and call it "Cracha", without the accent. But it never happened before. How can I fix this legitimately?
    Thanks.

As for the resolution problem: upsampling an image doesn't improve its quality, because there's simply not enough information there.
As for the warning you get: it's most likely caused by RGB color mode or by placed RGB content that interacts with other content in the file (e.g. because you applied transparency)
    In English it's this one:
As far as I see it there's no alternative to learning the basics of printing, color management and transparency. This is nothing that can be done by some forum posts.
    Printing:
    http://rufus.deuchler.net/2011/06/adobe-publishes-a-new-creative-suite-555-printing-guide. html
You need to understand what's happening on conversion of RGB to CMYK color space, which will happen when printing to offset presses. When you print on office printers, something else happens and all kinds of color may come out, because these machines sometimes do their own color correction and everything depends on how you set up the machine.
Provided you check the PDF in Acrobat: you need to set up color management there as well. This might lead to the differences (greenish) you're seeing.
Find a good book on color management and read the manual:
Creative Suite * Understanding color management (there's more about the subject)
    As for transparency:
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/asn/en/print_resource_center/Transparency-DesignGuide.pdf
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/asn/en/print_resource_center/TXPGuide.pdf
Before sending files to a print service provider you need to get information on how they need the file. Most providers won't accept PDFs generated with "No color conversion". Or they won't guarantee for the output.
What you see on your monitor won't necessarily match the printed result unless your system is correctly calibrated and color management set up. And even then there might be differences.
