Illustrator CS4 - Saving Buttons Created in Illustrator CS4

How do I save a created button in Illustrator cs4 without the whole page - just the button - it was straightforward in illustrator CS3.

I don't understand your question. In all version of Illustrator you always save the whole page. Do you mean Export? What format? How are you exporting? Are you using Save for Web? Did you turn off Crop to Artboard? Have you tried resizing the artboard to the size of hte button?
Also, the whole purpose of this forum is to provide help for users of Illustrator. Please try to include some hint about your problem in the title of your post. Imagine if everyone did what you did, calling their posts "Illustrator CS" or "Illustrator CS3". How much fun would it be to go back and check your responses, when there are dozens of posts with the same title?

  • Illustrator CS4 saving vector art for Microsoft Word

I have a logo created in Illustrator CS4. I saved the file for use in Microsoft Office using the "save for Office", exporting as a .wmf, and even saving the vector art in Photoshop as a .png. I can get a variety of formats to work well in Word documents.
Here is the problem. The Word document will eventually be saved as a PDF. When the file is saved as a PDF document (from Word), the color is changing in the PDF file. How can I correct this? I've tried saving in both rgb and cmyk color modes, but the color changes once it hits Acrobat and is printing differently than the Word file. It is driving me crazy and I cannot figure this out.
    Thanks for any help!
    Mary

The type is not vector it is raster it is no longer outline.
Check to see if you can select the individual letters in AI if you cannot it has be rasterized and is an image not vector.
If you open my files you will see that they are selectable in Acrobat and AI.
You seem confused and I do not understand why.
Attached is a word file with vector art and type make a  pdf from that and see the difference.
Also make certain you have Illustrator editing capabilities turned on when exporting to pdf from AI.
Can you attach one of the eps or the esp you made the sample file from.
Do not rasterize the outline text art.
It won't let me attach a word document.

  • Illustrator CS4 saving two copies of EPS each time

Hi all. My copy of Illustrator CS4 for Mac has recently started saving two copies of every EPS file that I save – eg. if I create an illustration, then choose "Save as" and save my file, I get "name.eps" and "name-01.eps". Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jason

    Hi Scott,
"Use Artboards" was checked, and unchecking it has solved the issue – although I was only using one artboard.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Importing Illustrator and Photoshop files to Premiere Pro CS4 (without rastering)

    Hello,
I've made some economics graphs in illustrator that i'm importing into premiere.
Premiere pro cs4 doesn't import illustrator files as layers, just a single image.
I exported from illustrator to save as a .psd to maintain the layers.
I then imported the .psd into premiere which created a folder with all the .psd layers.
I dragged the .psd layers onto the timeline so I could animate them with dissolves, but noticed they became pixelated.
I rendered the layers and they still looked pixelated, even after export they were pixelated.
From what I understand, illustrator files become rasterised when you export as .psd.
Is there any way of maintaining the crisp vector graphics created in illustrator when importing into premiere?
Can I avoid rastering the files?
Thank for your help in advance
    Kind Regards
    Ant

Thanks for your reply and welcome to the forum.
I wondered why premiere was doing such a bad job of anti-aliasing...it turns out that all the .psd files were imported as square pixels instead of rectangular so I right clicked and selected interpret footage, then selected conform to DV PAL1.45.
I assumed that as I set up the original Illustrator document as a video document (720x576) it would maintain the aspect ratio.
Somewhere between exporting to .psd then to premiere the aspect ration somehow changed?
I've found a great tutorial that appears to have a better workflow than the method I was using, by first creating a template in premiere, which can be exported directly to photoshop, maintaing  the correct aspect ratio. It means i'll have to draw up the graphs in Photoshop now instead of Illustrator.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro won't edit document created by Illustrator 2 and saved as PDF

I've tried multiple things, but can't get Acrobat Pro to edit text within a PDF file which was created by Illustrator cs2 "Accumulated text within the attempted selection area is rotated other than horizontal or vertical.  Touchup cannot create a text selection area.".   I've searched google, read help....
Fix was to download NitroPDF.   It quickly and easily edited the text.   So why won't Adobe do it...

The same thing happens with pdf files that are not zip files even if saved from Acrobat Pro on my computer.

  • Unable to properly highlight grids created by Illustrator CC saved as .pdf's

    Hello,
The issue I'm about to explain is a little abstract, and I'll explain it the best I can. Thanks in advance for your patience.
Here's my Dropbox link to the files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/73esyo467oisq9z/ToXw207v8X
In Illustrator CC I have drawn a grid by intersecting lines which has various font characters and some with square blocks inside the grid spaces. When I save this as a .pdf, users in Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro are unable to select the rows properly, the selection is seemingly random and unpredictable.
In the link above you'll see two screenshots:
    correct_highlighting.png
This is a screenshot of the desired highlighting
This grid (chart) was made in a different program and exported as a .pdf
    incorrect_highlighting.png
This is a screenshot of undesireable highlighting
This grid (chart) was made in Illustrator CC and saved as a .pdf
Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5) with the Illustrator Default preset with no Standards preset
    Other files included:
test chart creation.aiThe original test drawing used above
test chart creation.pdfA test .pdf created with the specifications above
I think the issue has something to do with the grid is created with a series of lines, so perhaps it's nothing like a spreadsheet where the highlighting flow is a set path and predictable. My thought is, how do I go about making the highlighting flow predictable?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for your reply.
The grid (chart) that highlights correctly is created from another program which is no longer viable, and as I need full control over the drawing, creating fields in Acrobat is not an option.
This grid (chart) created in Illustrator CC will be used in InDesign where ultimately a .pdf is created and viewed by clients in print and on screen (mac, pc, unix, and mobile devices). It's very helpful for users to highlight and mark their place on the chart as they read it to keep their place. Sometimes clients use a 3rd party .pdf reader to accomplish this. Long story short, the program we were creating these charts with is no longer viable, and are now testing Illustrator to create charts which is perfect except for the highlighting flow issue.

  • Files created in CS4 - saved in CS5 - crash when packaging

There seems to be problems when packaging in InDesign CS5 - my problem seems quite specific. Files created originally in CS4 then worked on in CS5.5 and then saved always hang when packaged. Files created directly in CS5.5 don't. They're fine.
    I'm on a mac Pro, OS 10.5.8
Anyone got any ideas? (I've tried exporting out as an IDML.)

Hi Peter. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I'm actually on 7.5 (so CS 5.5, aplogies for the incorrect version in my above post). So I think I'm as up to date as I can be.
To be honest I'm not surprised that the only diagnosis is 'strangeness' - (I'll keep playing with idml's in the hope I can get round this) but my whole CS upgrade experience from CS4 (which was rock solid really) has been terrible. Having trouble working with legacy files and effectively loosing the ability to package files has become a nightmare in InDesign. (There's other issues as well - there seems to be lot's of weirdness with masterpages etc etc). Not being able to collect images for a postcard is one thing - not being able to do it with 120pp catalogues is quite another!
I'm going to think very carefully about the next upgrade from Adobe -  (I've even had to switch back to Photoshop CS4 because of a serious unresolved bug in that.)

  • Help! Installed CS4 student edition, but only Illustrator appeared!

Hi! I recently installed the CS4 student edition, but only Illustrator appears in 'Applications.' A lot of the files associated with Photoshop and In Design are on the computer, but not the programs themselves. I wonder if this has to do with the fact I downloaded trial versions of Photoshop and In Design, but deleted them when I was ready to install CS4. They are no longer in trash.
    Thank you.

If you deleted them by simply dragging them to the trash, then yes, that
would explain it. Those application need to be uninstalled, not trashed.

  • Need Help with script: CS4 Flash Buttons

I created a 3 button bar using Flash CS4. It will link to three different HTML pages in a website. This is one of the three scripts I have on the first frame of the main timeline, the code is for one of the buttons, the other two are really the same with differing button numbers. This code does now open the page up in a NEW BROWSER window, but I would like the page to open in the existing window and not in a new one. The 3 buttons also have down states identified by a frame label of “hold”, I would like the script to set the hold frame or down state to be displayed when the proper page is loaded in the browser .  Will someone please suggest to me what I need to add to this script to achieve this, your time and effort will be appreciated.
    stop();
    button1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, illus);
    function illus(e:MouseEvent):void {
        var targetURL:URLRequest=new URLRequest("illustrator.html");
        navigateToURL(targetURL);

Thank you Todd... How about the code to display the Down stage when displayed,
    got any thoughts on this.
    Thanks'

  • Creating in DW a dropdown menu/navi-bar from png's created in Illustrator

    Hey All!
I'm new to Dreamweaver (currently CS5.5) and trying to create webpages for a university-researched based project site.
I'm totally lost as to how to create dropdown menus from buttons and dropdown menus I've created in Illustrator (CS4). I have made the buttons not particularly custom apart from the appearance. There seems to be no way to import from Illustrator unless using slices which only create html linkpages and/or CSS layers (I have no clue on that).
I want to do a number of things:
    1. Have a navigation bar
    2. When the cursor hovers over the tab it inverts and
(for example) the 'Introduction' tab drop-slides down to show the options.
    3. When the cursor hovers over an option the colour changes from light grey to black (?...)
It's a tall order I know, but I've been searching on the web for the last 4 hours and have had no luck in finding what I'm looking for. It is possible isn't it? Surely at this point its possible to do anything with the adobe software?!
    Many thanks and best wishes,
    James MLM
p.s. If you need to see an attachment of the exampled .pngs let me know. Cheers

Thank you Murray *ACP* and Nancy O. for your help.
I can neither afford to buy such software and nor want to sadly, if I could I would feel I'd learned nothing and have another program do all of the "thrashing" out for me . I'd like to know how it all works, since I'm very new to the whole website design industry (dreamweaver, joomla etc) and I'm keen to learn as much as possible.
Don't take this the wrong way, but the Spry menu bars are fine for an everyday kind of put-together website, however this website is for an academic institution's project and I'm trying my darndest to make sure it doesn't resemble or fall into the category of excessive substance over style. It's a website meant for anyone to use, from the academics who understand the project to the anybody-joe-josie who can use it to learn from the research and products of the project. User-friendly as possible for an academic project. Harder than you think, unless you have seen any academic websites that have all the understandings of layout, clear project description and understanding and product.
Surely there is a way of creating these customisable dropmenus and the masters of said software such as yourselves might find it too time-consuming to give me an idea of where to start, it's cool, I get it.
On paper it's simple; create dropdown menus (slide smoothly) for external links etc, using the .pngs I've designed in Illustrator to give as much aesthetic interaction as possible, that's what I've been assigned to do to replace the quickly-slapped together website there was before. I can't show you the pages I've created from Illustrator using Slices (not a very effective option) since it's under the institution "law" of data protection until ready. I can only provide snippets and the previous website which is being completely updated to meet a brief of "smart, slick, simple".
My definition of that is to have the style of smart, slick and simple whilst having a little more depth and accessibility. All things wonderful get better and evermore intriguing the closer you look.
Thank you again for your help, I'm still learning but I put the hours into something that needs full attention. Plus to whinge (sorry) I'm not being paid, and it's a 3 month schedule. "Tene lupum auribus".
    Many thanks and best wishes,
    James MLM

  • PDF (created in Indesign CS4) separates in CMYK, in stead of PMS

I have sent a PDF, created in Indesign CS4, to the printer. I need the design to be printed in PMS colors, but the printer says the PDF color separates in CMYK, not PMS colors.
I'm at my wits end trying to find where I went wrong (I should add I'm a beginner at all this). I need help...
    Here's what I did:
I have changed the colors in a CMYK based design of a business card to PMS colors. I have changed the colors of an Illustrator file that is used in the design to PMS colors as well.
When I look at the separations preview it looks fine, only PMS colors.
I then created a PDF, using the [High Quality Print] Adobe PDF preset. In Output Color Conversion is set to 'No Color Conversion'. In the Ink Manager 'All spots to process' is not checked. CMYK inks are visible in the Ink Manager, but so are the Pantone Inks I used.
I noticed one strange thing, the swatch options for Pantone Process Cyan C are different thatn those in other PMS colors, the Colortype is 'spot' but the Color Mode is CMYK, greyed out so that I can't change it to Pantone Solid Coated. Even weirder, I can't delete that strange swatch. I tried adding the pantone colors to my swatches again, in a different file, I added Pantone Cyan C and it looked fine, but when I reopened the swatch options it was strange again.

Yes, I have added cropmarks and page info to the pdf.
I checked the separations in Acrobat Pro with a friend. Both Pantone colors and CMYK show up. When I disable the CMYK, nothing of the design disappears (cropmarks and page info don't disappear either, they seem to be in both Pantone and CMYK).
I saved a new pdf, without crops and page info, and CMYK still shows up in the separations.
I'll contact the printer tomorrow, I'm pretty sure he should be able to use the file I sent him.
Thank you all for your help!

  • Multiple page pdf created from illustrator - has white border on pages

Hi - having trouble with a white border which appears around each page (have a colour background) in a multiple page pdf doc- created in illustrator (using page tiling) - anyone know the trick to get around this? Want the colour to go to the edges....see attached pdf

I'm using CS4 but that's OK you can get it to work in CS2
File: Print. Beside Media select Custom. Make the size really big. Then click done in lower right. Afterwards save your file.

  • Creating multipage illustrator files

Has anyone heard if you can open a multipage pdf as a multipage illustrator file? Even if the pdf was not created in illustrator.

    I may be wrong but:
    1. Until CS4, Illustrator did not support multipage docs. Whether CS4 can support a multi-page pdf is open to creation of the pdf.
Just checked, opening a multi-page pdf, it asks you which page... Caveat: the file was created from AI CS3.

  • Button issue in InDesign CS4

I need to add text using interactive -->  button option in InDesign CS4. This particular text has to appear when I  mouse the text in PDF after generating from InDesign CS4. I don't want  to add those text in PDF itself.
Indesign CS3 has  button options to add text but InDesign CS4 does have that option to add  text. Please guide me how to add text using Button in ID CS4.
What  I did was: I have created a button and add text using button option and  save it. When exporting PDF from ID CS3, I have enabled the option  Interactive elements. After generating PDF from ID CS3 I have mouse over  the text, whatever text I was inserted in button it appeared in PDF  well.
But this option is not available in InDesign CS4. I hope you understand it clear now.
I  have taken the screenshot below from InDesign CS3 and attached the same  for your reference. This option does have in InDesign CS4. Please help  me out in this regard.

I've answered this in the other thread where you asked the question.

  • How do I export from PDF to PPT so that shapes created in Illustrator are editable

How do I export from PDF to PPT so that shapes created in Illustrator are editable, not just text on top of them? I used the Acrobat XL Pro technique described here (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/pdf-to-powerpoint-pptx-converter.html), to export a graphic I had created in Illustrator and saved as an Adobe PDF file, but shapes are not editable and are fuzzy too. Is there a way to export a complete Illustrator graphic to PowerPoint?

Thanks Bill. Of course I realize I can insert an Illustrator drawing into a PPT without making it a PDF first. What I’m trying to do is insert a drawing from Illustrator that is still editable in PPT (a client request). Using the Acrobat XL Pro capability shown in this video <http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/pdf-to-powerpoint-pptx-converter.html> , only the text is editable in PPT, not shapes created in Illustrator.
