Illustrator CS4 Text & Shape logo is pixelated when placing as smart object in PS

I made a Logo in Illustrator CS4 containing text & shape. The lines are crisp and clear at 100% & 200%+. I save my file as an ai and also another version as outlined. But when I copy & paste it into Photoshop CS4 as a smart object it becomes pixelated when I zoom in more than 100%. Is there a way to fix this?
When I use to do this in CS3 it worked fine, but now it doesn't work. The Photoshop file, placed as a smart object is the one on the left at 200%. You can already tell the pixels are distorted. The one on the right side is Illustrator file at 800% and is still crisp & clean. I've saved as eps, tiff, jpeg from illustrator and when opening it in photoshop and zooming in it's pixelated....and yes AA is turned on in Illustrator and nothing happens when I view as overprint either.
First, I'd like the logo in jpeg crisp and clear when zoomed in.
Second, I'd like to resolve the smart object issue in PS. I know a smart object will hold it's quality no matter the resize of the image in PS, but I can't get it to work... Can someone offer any suggestions

What is the ppi of the Photoshop file?
And for what it's worth, any raster image will never be as crisp and clear as a vector image, smart object or otherwise. Photoshop shows raster previews even if the actual object is vector. If you zoom in on any raster iamge, you'll see pixelation.

"Anti-alias" greyed out when free-transforming smart objects.

While resizing smart objects, I noticed that the anti-aliasing was very contrasting and not smooth enough for my purposes. I realized that if I rasterized the smart object before resizing, the anti-aliasing was better. I then noticed that there was a setting when free-transforming smart objects called "anti-alias." However, I am unable to activate it as it is greyed out. So, here's two questions:
1) Is there a way to make the anti-aliasing for smart objects the same as that of rasterized objects?
2) Is there a way to activate that "anti-alias" setting when free-transforming smart objects?

On top of what Zeno Bokor wrote that while your doing the transform your viewing a quick scaled preview not the actual transformation you wrote
The SOs I'm talking about are bitmap images I made into SOs to be able to resize and edit without destructive changes, not imported vector graphics from AI.
You did not state how you made the bitmap images into smart object. If you just converted a layer you had been working on into a smart object some damage may have already been done to the bitmap image. You might get better results if you started out with a smart object layer to begin with by using ACR open as smart object option or by placing your camera jpeg images into your document as starting points.

Oversized text and lack of pages when placing a word document (.docx)

I'm reposting this, since the last one seemed to get lost in the jumble:
When placing text from a word document (.docx) indesign only gives me three pages for a 118 long document. Also, those pages are blank, and to access the text, I have to delete a few blank lines. When I do this however, the text is grossly oversized. Changing the font does not help, as even on 6 pt, the text is much larger than it should be. Help? I've tweaked import options (although I may not know enough to diagnose the issue I am having), changed the format of the file (.doc, rtf) nothing seems to work.

The problem is the page size. It's tiny lee than an inch wide and a bit over an inch tall. I'm not sure what you set up, but what you have now seems to have been made much smaller with the Page tool, perhaps.
Set your ruler units in your prefs with nothing open to a system you are comfortable working in (the doc is set up in Picas, now. Do you know how to work in Picas?), then create a new file the size you really want.

Illustrator files sometimes have a white BG when placed in InDesign

What determines if an Illustrator .ai file or Illustrator .eps file will have a white background when placed in InDesign? Usually when I place a .ai file, the background is white, and when I place a .eps file, the background is transparent. But I have noticed in other people's files that placed .ai files have a transparent background. In all cases, the placed file is pure vector. I would prefer that the background be transparent all the time, unless I give the object frame a while fill in InDesign.

This Gaussian Blur is probably created as a bitmap effect, not as live transparency. That makes sense, too, since EPS doesn't support transparency effects.
No option to change this in InDesign, unless you want to resort to ad hoc hacks such as setting the entire image to "multiply".
You can try to get hold of the original Illustrator file; if the blur is done as a transparent effect in that, ID sohuld be able to process it correctly.

Why does the Amount slider of Camera's RAW Detail Panel revert to 0 when opening a Smart Object in Photoshop?

I use CS6 on a Mac running 10.6.8. I edit images in RAW, then covert to a Smart Object for final editing in Photoshop. I've noticed the image in Photoshop is not sharp, and when I check by returning to RAW, I can see that just the Amount slider (Detail Panel) has reverted to 0, but the other sliders are as I have set them.
Does anyone know what may cause this problem and how to solve it?

This behavior happens only on Mac desktop computer, not on my Mac laptop running the same CS6.
After I've edited an ACR file (including sharpening in the Detail panel), I change the file into a PSD Smart Object to complete my edit by clicking on "Open Object". I immediately notice this PSD file is not sharp. If I click on the bottom right of the image icon to return to the RAW file, I find the Amount slider in the Detail Panel has changed from the sharpening amount I gave it, to 0.
If I do the exact same thing on my laptop (running a duplicate of the same Photoshop CS6), this behaviour does not happen. The image remains sharp as a PSD file, and if I check by returning to ACR, the Amount slider has maintained its setting.
Anything more you need?

Possible bug in Illustrator CS4 text anti-aliasing in Save for Web and Devices

Hello all,
This could be a bug... if so, I'd be happy to add it to Wade's bug list a few messages down the stream.
Here's what's happening: when I create small text using a very thin font (in this case, Helvetica Neue Light), the Pixel Preview gives a noticeably different anti-aliasing solution to the actual output from Save for Web & Devices. I'm attaching an original .AI file as well as a screenshots of what I'm getting in both situations.
I'd really prefer the Save for Web and Devices output to look exactly like the Pixel Preview. The font looks great in Illustrator but loses a lot of its punch when I Save for Web.

In the Svae for Web and Device under the image tab where it says art Optimize that is a drop down menu select Type Optimize as such
htis is what it lloks like in AI and a browser when you choose Type Optimize
This the difference between Art Optimized and Type Optimize
That is what is happening to you you are selcting Art Optimize and that is the reason when you choose art optimize aqnd you rraster the image it looks right to you.

Logo done in AI is pixelated when placed in InDesign ~ Please help

I am a newbie so this may be a silly problem, but right now it's holding me up big time! I have CS3 and created my company logo in Illustrator in order to have a vector graphic. It seems fine, but when I try to place it into InDesign projects (my business card, letterhead, etc.) it is pixelated the way I would expect a raster image to act. I have searched all my CS3 training books and cannot figure out what the problem is. I need to figure this out asap so any help I can get is appreciated. Thanx so much!

Note that raster images will appear pixelated as well until you turn on "High Quality Display"
Also note that you can turn on High Quality Display for individual images or the entire document.
If you want to see just one image in high quality, click on it and select it. Then right click anywhere on that image, go to the bottom of the menu to Display Performance and choose high quality.
Alternatively, if NOTHING is selected in your document and you want to turn on high quality for all, you can right click anywhere outside your document borders, right click, go to Display Performance and choose "High Quality Display"

Illustrator CS4 Text Rotation not working as it has in the past

When I attempt to rotate a text element, the text does not rotate along with the textbox that it was created inside. Instead, it always stays at the top of the text box and moves left/right (I hope that is an accurate description). Anyone know what is going on with this?

I think I know what it is happening in this case.... I have time and was trying to reproduce the issue..
1. Here I have a text and a text inside a container (Block text)
2. Here I use the rotate tool, every thing goes as expected
3. Here I used the free Transform tool. and as you can see, that tool rotates the container but not the text itself, so that's the "problem"...
use the rotate tool instead the transfor tool...

I recently purchased PS Elements Editor 12 (mac app store edition). All existing PSDs layers with text or logos are pixelated on edges?

I can't figure out how/where to fix this. Any help?

to clarify, also if i add a new layer of text and turn off on/off anti-aliasing it is still pixelated.

Illustrator CS3: perfectly fine pdf gets destroyed when placing in Illustrator

I am new to Illustrator, but I just dont get the problem. A perfectly looking pdf comes out looking all wrong when it is placed in Illustrator.
This is how the diagram looks in pdf. Perfectly scalable.
This is how it looks after beeing imported in Illustrator.
Everything else that was imported form the pdf looks fine. Only this diagramm gets destroyed!
Why does this happen?

How was the PDF created? Printed, Exported? Some other method?
If nothing else helps, you could do the following: it looks like the problems are only in drop shadows and text. You could delete both from the Power Point file, export, save or print the PDF. Then import into Illustrator and recreate shadows and text there.
I don't think you could transfer the complete graohic from PP to Illy as vector anyway. So rather get away with as much as you can and then complete it.

Is it possible to define one language for every imported text? And other problems when placing text.

Problem is, that Indesign cc 2014 does not recognize language correctly. In my case it should always be slovenian (and documents like doc and docx are set to slovenian), but it set it as slovakian. I get many documents from different programs (Word, Libre Office, Open Office ...). And setting every one after placing it into document is time consuming. Word import was working great in InDesign 5.5. Now it just mixes local character formating. Also: importing docx takes too long, and when in document is some picture, it just freeze. So I must first open every doc/docx file and delete every picture/logo that is inside.
Any suggestions?

Check the language of your default Character Style. If it's set to Slovakian, change it to Slovenian with no documents open.

Eps images looking pixelated when placed in Indesign

I am creating a catalogue. The images I am using are eps files.
In some instances the image once placed into Indesign come out completely or partly pixelated.
I have checked the display performance and it is on high quality. I am also placing the image not copy and pasting.
What do I need to do to fix the problem?

I don't know what PDF profile you exported to, but try PDF/X-4 and see if it results in a better PDF.
It sounds like the AI file could have either transparency and is being flattened or the PDF profile used to export is flattening the PDF gradient itself. The white lines...do they get larger as you zoom in? If not, they are stitching lines and usually do not print.

Jagged edge of Smart Objects in Photoshop CS4!

Vector graphics created in Illustrator CS4 and pasted as Smart Objects into Photoshop CS4 used to appear perfectly smooth. This has stopped. I now get very jagged edged Smart Objects which are quite useless. I have checked all the Edit preferences and made sure Anti Alias is turned on in the Illustrator files to no effect. What can be done about this? What has suddenly changed and why? Would uninstalling & reinstalling CS4 solve this problem? Has anyone else experienced this and found the solution?

No idea. The only time I saw this happen was when someone mistakenly turned
off the antialias
feature when placing the smart object. (which is why I put the antialias
checkbox in the transform
toolbar to make it more visible in later releases)
And of course when I checked I had done exactly that and been struggling for
weeks!
Now unblinkered.

Trouble getting Illustrator CS4 to run, and when it does: no workspaces

At work (University of St Andrews) I have Adobe CS4 Web Premium and everything installs and runs okay apart from Illustrator CS4.
I've tried to install it on two different PCs, both Dell Precision workstations. One had Windows XP Professional 32-bit, the new one has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I get exactly the same behaviour on both. I've even tried to install it on Windows 7's XP Mode and I get the same error messages!
INSTALLATION #1
When I installed it I got an error saying "Done, with errors". Details showed:

When I then tried to run the application it just wouldn't start, it would throw up an error message. It simply would not start.
INSTALLATION #2
So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and got the same error.
COPY FILES - NO WORKSPACES
I then read this advice on a forum:
"Do you have a working install of Ai CS4 on another computer anywhere?
If so, go into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator\Support\Required
and copy the Resources file to the same location on the computer that
encounters the error. I was having the same problem, but luckily I had a
working install on another OS, so I just compared the files between the
two installations and found the missing ones."
So I copied over these files from a working copy elsewhere in the department and this time the application ran but I now have no WorkSpace settings and cannot save any either.
INSTALLATION #3
I then uninstalled again and tried to reinstall. This time on the installer I was given a number of language options. Rather than English (International) I selected English (US) and lo! and behold! the installer ran without errors and the application opened ok and this time I had WorkSpaces... the only problem was that it would only run in trial mode because it wouldn't accept my serial number, which I'm guessing is for English (International) only.
INSTALLATION #4
Uninstall, again. Reinstall, again, this time in English (International).
Now the application opens but again I have no WorkSpaces, and cannot save any workspaces.
What can I do? Any idea how can I get a fully working version of Illustrator CS4 on my PC that includes workspaces?

Are you having any issues with your other Adobe products, or is it just Illustrator?
If just Illustrator, did you previously install the product separately (i.e. as a trial, or as a pre-release/beta)?
I am having problems only with Illustrator CS4. I have not installed the product separately, either as a trial or a pre-release or beta.
In fact, I installed Adobe CS4 Web Premium on a clean, newly installed, straight-from-the-Dell-factory Dell Precision T7400. It was the first application I installed, and Illustrator wasn't working straight after the installation.
I've not had any problems with other Adobe applications. The only time the serial number became an issue was when I tried to reinstall Illustrator CS4 using "English (US)" as an option, simply out of curiosity as this hadn't been an option with the original installation of the whole suite.
I followed the instructions:
Deleted C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4.
Updated permissions for Public Documents (although when I reached step 12: "Click Apply and click Permissions tab." there was no Permissions tab).
Reinstalled Illustrator CS4 from the setup.exe file. You said uncheck everything else, however the following applications would not allow me to untick them:
Adobe Bridge CS4
Adobe Extension Manager CS4

Illustrator CC pastes unformatted code when trying to copy objects

When I attempt to copy and paste objects or text, illustrator pastes unformatted code (see picture).
When I copy the object and paste it a second time, it works fine, it's only when pasting for the first time.
It's not the end of the world but it's really quite annoying, any help would be appreciated, cheers.
