Illustrator CS4 The hidden tools palette

For some reason when I hold down the right hand side on my mouse pad to access the hidden tools in the tools palette in illustrator, it shows the alternative tools but wont let me switch to them eg I hold down the right hand pad and can see the smooth tool underneath the pencil but I cant switch tools.
It certainly has worked in the past but appears to have stopped working any ideas?

Are you perhaps thinking about Photoshop instead of AI ?
In any case, just try doing the same using the left mouse button.

  • How can I display the length of the yet unfinished line that a user is drawing in the image using the line tool of the IMAQ tool palette.

    Is this really not possible using standard Labview/Vision YI`s?

    Herbert,
    I can't find a way to extract the information you want within the program. However, this information is displayed as part of the IMAQ tool palette while the user is drawing the line. The pallette shows the anchor point, the X and Y offsets, and the line length and angle.

    How do I turn off the alt scroll zoom?
    When I'm in Adobe photoshop and illustrator using the pen tool, alt is utilized for another short cut.  I would like to use the alt command for the pen tool instead of zooming into the screen.

    I tend to select things from left to right and every time I am moving in a downward right diagonal motion during lasso selection I am missing a clear view and I am tending to have a more sloppy selection.  All this does is slow me down since I need to go back and hit those areas again.  The big arrowhead just get's in the way.  The original lasso tool with the thin line and small active point at it's lower left was far better for me.
    I don't like turning the cursors to precise because I like to see the active tool icon where my cursor is and as the icon changes as I hold modifier keys down.  If I am forced to get comfortable with using pricise cursors I guess I will, but man, I've never had to do this in my 15 years of photoshop use...
    I would absolutely LOVE to find a way to get the old lasso icon -- without the arrowhead above it.
    Is there any chance this option could be inlcuded in cursor preferences?  I'd give much thanks, Adobe.

  • How do I stop the hidden tools from being shown when I select a tool?

    Every time I wish to select a tool in Photoshop CS6, the hidden tools beneath that tool always show.  Whether I do this with my mouse, or the graphics tablet, the same issue occurs.  I'm certain that one click should select the visible tool, and that holding down the cursor should display the hidden tools. Is there a way to make certain that the hidden tools stay hidden? I'm using Mac OS X Mavericks, if that helps.

    The ONLY way I can get that behavior from a single click is to hold the Ctrl key.
    When you hover over a tool preset, do you see the menu added to the cursor?

  • Mild annoyance: selecting a tool in the toolbar auto-pops open the hidden tools

    So, I think I must have hit a shortcut that changed this behavior, because it started happening all of a sudden about a week ago. But I can't find a preference to turn this off. When I select a tool in the toolbar, the hidden tools automatically pop up.
    Again, it's not the biggest deal in the world, but it's kind of annoying. Anyone know how to make this stop?

    Hello fewdio,
    I myself was experiencing this issue, and even posted a thread on this later on today.
    My thread has been solved and thought I would swing by your thread so hopefully it would help you out too. If you want, you can check out my thread here (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4151748#4151748) for the answer, and maybe the one that helped me out might help you too, or there are alternative answers that individuals have left which might be what your looking for.
    Good luck!

  • Hidden tools palette? I would like a palette which shows ALL tools, not popups...

    I am really frustrated (for decades now) that Photoshop groups some tools together which don't make sense to me, and so are hard to find when I do want to use them.
    Examples (and vice versa):
    Ruler under Eye dropper
    Pencil under Brush
    Paint Bucket under Gradient
    Sponge under Burn
    Shapes under Line
    etc
    I would like a tools palette which shows ALL tools, all the time.
    Has anyone done one of these? Might I get a copy?
    Thanks
    William

    Excellent! Thank you, very much. That's exactly what I needed!
    This one is in a regular palette window which can be grouped with other windows, so does not take up any extra space.

  • In CS4 the Pencil tool does not maintain a Fill when drawing?

    In Ai CS4, how can I get the Fill color to maintain its fill when I draw with the pencil tool? The Fill color disappears and defaults to No Fill every time I draw with the pencil tool therefore I’m unable to see what I’ve drawn. CS1 did not work this way as it retained any Fill or Stroke previously assigned.

    Looks like two things have changed in CS4. Double click the Pencil tool and check the box that says Fill new pencil strokes. Then make a new rectangle filled with color you want and Option(Alt)-drag it to the top-left most box in the Graphic Styles panel to set a new default for this document. Finally in the Appearance panel flyout make sure New Art Has Basic Appearance is checked.

  • Illustrator CS6 - hidden tools do not appear

    Normally a double-click on certain tools in the tool palette will reveal other tools hidden within it. For example, the direct selection tool (white arrow), when double-clicked will reveal the group selection tool. Double clicking has suddenly failed for me and I can not reach any of the hidden tools. Anybody know how to fix?

    freefall,
    You may try 4) or 6) on the list. 4) is more thorough than 3) which you have tried already. 6) is the ultimate cleanup.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Tools Palette Dropdown Issue

    None of the dropdowns on Tools Palette work ex: Type Tool, Pen Tool, Pencil Tool,etc. I cannot get the dropdowns for any of these to appear. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the entire suite - reinstalling each separately - no luck. I'm sure it's something to do with Preferences but I don't want to pay tech support $40 to give me a one line fix. Please help - very frustrating.

    There are no "dropdowns" on the tools palette. However, if you click a button and hold for a few seconds, the ones with the little triangles should show the hidden tools in a flyout. Is that not working?
    To replace your preferences hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys as soon as you launch the program (we're talking milliseconds here) and say yes to the dialog when it asks if you want to replace the prefs. If you don't get asked, you weren't fast enough, and nothing has been changed.

  • How can I use my fonts in Illustrator (CS4) without Suitcase?

    How can I use my fonts in Illustrator (CS4) without Suitcase? InDesign has a fonts folder, but not Illustrator.

    i found this info from this link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3466307.  The user who asked this question stats this solution worked for them.
    First in Language and text preferences in the system preferences select Hebrew as the input method.
    The in Illustrator click the text tool in your document or drag to create a text frame.
    While the cursor is active select a hebrew font
    then go to the menu bar for the finder and where there is the American Flag pull it down and select hebrew
    now go back to the document and start typing.
    Remember if you do not have the ME version you have to have it flush right and type backwards.

  • Help! Kuler in Illustrator CS4 - changes colours completely

    Why is it that when I use the in-built Kuler extension in Illustrator CS4 the colour values are completely different when I "Add selected themes to swatches" to those on the Kuler website.
    As an random example, take this theme:  soothing by milolily   (http://kuler.adobe.com/#themeID/68960)
    Here's what the colours are on the Kuler website and what they end up being in the Swatch palette in Illustrator:
    R:52, G:97, B:107     --->     R:70, G:107, B:129
    R:52, G:21, B:54     --->     R:82, G:48, B:55
    R:123, G:137, B:156     --->     R:147, G:154, B:169
    R:14, G:22, B:51     --->     R:26, G:32, B:63
    R:160, G:189, B:140     --->     R:182, G:192, B:167
    Check out the screenshot to see how huge the difference is visually.
    I thought perhaps it was something to do with whether the Document Color Mode was set to RGB or CMYK but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
    Any ideas anyone??  It's driving me insane!
    Thanks

    It's because theme is saved in CMYK. The RGB values displayed in kuler website are as per the Web color conversion whereas Illustrator utililises their own conversion. If you notice, in CMYK documents, values are displayed correctly.
    Hope this resolves your doubt.

  • Hidden Tools always appear

    I'm running CS4 on a new unibody Macbook Pro.
    Whenever I click (just a regular ole' single left click) on the tools, all of the hidden tools also appear and then I have to select the appropriate tool or click out of the panel. When I first installed and ran the Adobe programs, this didn't happen. I would have to either hold down or right click on each tool to see the tools hidden underneath. I far prefer this because it allows me to switch tools easily and quickly.
    I have scoured the interwebs and the preferences panel and haven't found anything to have an effect. This happened to me with CS3 on my old PowerBook G4, so I'm wondering if a preference somehow made it's way over onto my new computer. I didn't restore from TimeMachine or import preferences, so I don't know how that could have happened.
    Any way to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Mollie

    Your problem, on several machines, is not related to the Photoshop software itself.
    Most likely cause - a bad mouse driver (this is the software that runs a mouse) - very often mouse drivers designed for the Microsoft world are not ported across properly, and there have been various problems caused by this on this forum. Uninstall it if you have one of these pointless drivers, you dont need it, mouse will work anyway.
    Also check your 'keyboard and mouse' settings in your system preferences and make sure these have not been set to something unwise
    What other software do you have running when you are using Photoshop? Try quitting everyhting and just running Photoshop and the Finder alone, and see if the problem persists

  • Hidden tools slow when selected with tablet pen

    I'm running Indesign CS3 on Windows Vista. The hidden tools in the toolbox are painfully slow to expand when I use my Wacom Graphire pen. They work fine with my mouse but take about 5 seconds to expand when I click with my tablet. The mouse is not sitting near the tablet and I haven't had this problem in Illustrator, only Indesign.

    One other tidbit; the "busy" spinning circle always appears when I hold down the mouse over the tool before the tools finally do pop out. I've tried turning off Vista's Aero theme, disabling the visual effects in the Indesign properties, and selecting "none" for the pointer scheme in the control panel/mouse.
    I've heard of others experiencing problems with aero and CS3 but I can't seem to get rid of that spinning circle in Indesign.

  • In Photoshop CS4- using patch tool-

    I select an area I want to repair, click source, then drag to the area I want to use to make the repair and release. It looks great in the preview, before I release. As soon as I release it disappears.
    For example, after using the automate tool to combine multiple images into a panarama with a transparent background there are a few blank areas. I select one of the blank areas with the patch tool, click source then drag to the area I want to use as the replacement and release. As soon as I release, it goes back to the transparent background. The transparent button is NOT selected.
    This is a Windows Vista system, with NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video, If I try to do updates to CS4 is sas it is using the latest driver. Which it lists as version 11.0.2.
    Any idea how to fix this?

    In photoshop cs4 the patch tool doesn't work on transparent areas.
    In other words the area has to be opaque (not transparent)
    If they are small areas you might try the Healing Brush Tool.
    Or use the healing brush tool and/or clone stamp tool and then patch the area with the patch tool.

  • PDF displays differently from Illustrator CS4 to Acrobat 9.1.x - no idea why

    My name is Chris Plessinger. I'm the local IT support for a company that produces promotional products.
    Recently, the Art Department came to me with a problem.
    They had a graphic that was sent to them by the customer in a PDF file.
    The PDF, when opened in Acrobat 9.1, shows an image with another image imposed on the lower left hand corner.
    When the PDF is opened in Illustrator CS4, the image is there, but the smaller image that was imposed on the lower left corner isn't there.
    In Illustrator, when you press CTRL-Y, you can see the outline of where it would be, but it's clearly not there.
    I'm don't know enough about the software to determine why it is showing up in one Adobe product and not displaying in another.
    I am uploading the file in question to this post.
    I would be very, very appreciative of any feedback on I can get on this issue. I'm not a graphic artist and can't answer the question being posed to me.
    Regards,
    Christopher

    Sweet.
    But I have a new question now: how (exactly) did you accomplish this? How did you flatten it?
    Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate your taking the time to help.
    Thanks,
    Chris
