Illustrator CS5 changing fonts

I was just suppost to start using Illustrator CS5 on my Mac when i discovered i can't do the same as on my Illustrator CS4 version for the PC.
In this version i was able to switch my fonts quickly in the type window by using the up and down arrows when the text was selected it was changing immediately.
Now i can still go to the type window but when i wanna change the font i everytime have to click with my mouse on the next font to change it does somebody know how to do this quickly on the MAC like i did before on my PC ?
Thanks Greetz Alies

Mybe I am going offtopic but in Windows, I can switch fonts using the arrow keys, but for some odd reason certain fonts do not select when I am scrolling fonts, redirecting me to a completely new font. It is like if some fonts are corrupted or dunno, but I cannot scroll to them with arrows (i.e. if I have some text selected and i want to see how does it look with different fonts applied) so the only way I can select those fonts is by using the mouse an click on them.
Pretty weird! Does anyone experienced the same issue?

  • Illustrator CS5 Changing dot lpi and angle dialog box not opening

    Hello! I am having trouble with Illustrator CS5 changing the dot lpi and angle. I have my problem typed out below the image. Please help if you can! Thank you!

    You could also save yourself a lot of work by creating an ink template .ait with all of the angle/frequency values preset.
    1) Simply create a new document, size the artboard to your typical size and create a series of color chips (squares) each colored with one of your typical inks. It looks like you're doing t-shirt seps so you probably have about 20 or so inks you use all the time.
    2) Go into the print settings and set all of their angle and frequency values and click done.
    3) Choose File->Save As Template (you can delete the color chips if you want at this point, the swatches will remain)
    Now whenever you start a new document, choose File -> New From Template
    Any new artwork you create can be colored with the existing swatches and you'll find the angle / frequency settings are already set.

  • Working in Adobe  Illustrator CS5.  Fonts are shown as Font type (i.e. True Type, Adobe, OpenFace icons) with no name unless I high light an font icon.  This does not happen in Photoshop or InDesign.  Help!

    Illustrator CS5 for Mac.  OS Yosemite 10.10.1 Font Drop Down show only font type icon unless I drag my cursor over an icon to reveal the font name and style.   Fonts works great in InDesign and Photoshop.

    j,
    I believe this may solve it:
    Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.

  • Illustrator cs5 changes Kuler color values when importing, Help!

    I am using Illustrator cs5. I access the Kuler Color theme feature for color themes. I will select a them from the Kuler feature
    and then choose to add that theme to my swatch panel. I then check the individual colors in the color panel. Here is the
    problem: when illustrator brings in the Kuler colors to the Illustrator color panel it will change the values of that color which
    changes the actual color. For instance a bright green becomes a muted turquoise. This conclusion is not by my sight,
    because I have opened the specific color theme at the Kuler Web sight and obtained the CMYK values for those colors,
    and then gone back to the Illustrator color panel and compared then values there. The values are changed which creates
    a different color --- obviously. So how can I use the Kuler feature when illustrator changes the values on me which then
    changes the color? Help

    I dont know what my color settings are at this point.
    I download the Kuler color theme straight from the Kuler panel open on my desktop. I open
    the drop down menu options and choose: add this theme to your color swatches. The
    theme is moved over to the swatch panel while I am using Illustrator.
    I don't know what you mean by your last question.

  • Crashing in illustrator when changing fonts

    Help  !  I have a new macbook pro and cs 5.  every time i am working in illustrator I crash when either scrolling through fonts or changing a font or adding effects to them.  i have added a few fonts that i had purchased previously but my older imac NEVER crashed for this reason!  help meeeee!  my job requires funky graphics and fonts, so now i'm in trouble!

    raginrach,
    You may see whether it is A font caches issue: Clear the font cache; there are font caches clearing applications for Mac, searchable with the search term clear font caches.
    Or you may see whether it is a case of Corrupt font(s): you may move all (non system) fonts out of the relevant folders and move them back in; font moving may be done in groups; this is reversible.

  • Illustrator CS5 - Change to global rulers - scriptable?

    I wonder if the CS5 command "Change to global rulers" is scriptable. When I try to record it as an Action script step, it is not recorded and I do not see anything in the JavaScript-ing guide on setting this programatically either.
    Thanks

    We are now up to the new Illustrator 6.
    Does anyone know how to make "Chanmge to Global Rulers" a default command each time Illustrator CS6 opens?

    What font? What system? What Glyph? What language settings? Could be anything. Either way, ask in the AI forum. You'll get quicker answers there - if you provide all the required info.

  • Illustrator CS5.1 crashes when changing fonts

    Hoping someone can please help!! Every time I try to change fonts in Illustrator CS5.1, without fail it crashes. I'm on a macbook pro with retina display, OSX 10.9.4 and I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling the program and downloading the Adobe patches but my computer won't accept them. I've tried deleting the Illustrator preferences as well but nothing seems to work. PLEASE HELP?!!

    dezine,
    In serious cases requiring reinstallation, you should also use the Cleaner Tool, see 6) below.
    But it may be something with fonts/font caches, see  Items 1) and 11) in the link in 5) below; these may be the most probable causes.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    I know how to change the default font, which is used to input characters.
    But, I do not know how to check the font used in the menu.
    Is it the font that is described in the following files?

    If you know, please tell me how to check the configuration file and how to change the font that is used in the menu.

  • Illustrator CS5 crashes when scrolling through font menu.

    Hello Adobe Community,
    I am in desperate need of help with my Illustrator CS5 program. It has suddenly started to crash when I scroll through the Font menu from the Type menu at the top of the program. I am using a late 2013 Macbook Pro 13" with retina display on OSX 10.9.2. I am using Illustrator CS5 v15.0.0. I have read through scores of forum threads and tried every solution that was suggested and still cannot resolve this problem. I am stumped and my back is up against the wall. My work flow has now slowed to crawl since I have to now search through fonts using FontBook then manually type in the font I need in the font character field. I believe this problem is due to a corrupt font. The trouble started after I installed a new font. I have since deactivated and deleted that font but the problem persists. I am not a "tech head" so I don't know how to generate those long code pages that some can. I can make pretty pictures with Adobe products but I can't service those Adobe products.
    Here is a list of things I have tried so far (at least what I remember):
    *     I have deactivated and deleted the font I believed to be corrupt.
    *     I have validated all my fonts with FontBook and deleted all corrupt files.
    *     I have turned off the "enable missing glyph protecting" in the preferences.
    *     I have used FontNuke to delete my font caches.
    *     I have reset my Pram.
    *     I have repaired all my permission with disk utility.
    *     I have removed all fonts except for the standard system fonts.
    *     I have uninstalled Illustrator and done a clean install (my system was migrated from a backup-however is has worked fine for months).
    *     I have deleted my library/preferences/abobefnt.plst.
    *     I have change the font preview to small.
    *     I deleted all my fonts and restored them from time machine from before I had installed that last font I believed to be buggy.
    *     I have prayed to Jebus.
    So far none of this has worked. The closest I got was after deleting all the corrupt fonts with FontBook. It worked for a day. Then the next day started crashing again. I am completely lost at this point. I don't know what else to do.
    Can anybody please help me figure this out?

    Update - I figured out how those crash reports are done so if anyone thinks they can help but needs to see a report please let me know and I will paste it into a reply.
    Update 2 - I tried turning off the font preview all together and this seems to have stopped the crashes so far. I think the bug can be isolated to this function. Problem is I need that function.

  • Major font substitution bug in Illustrator CS5

    Hi all,
    This took me a good long time to track down, and since I didn't find any information here and Adobe technical support was no help, I figured I'd post the result. Happy new year.
    Here was the problem. Working in CS5, intermittently we would get font reflow issues. In addition, when going to edit the type boxes with font reflow, we would get the message, "This text was created in a different version of Illustrator. Editing the text may cause some changes to your text layout. Basic formatting will not be affected. Do you want to continue?" Please note it says "different version" rather than "previous version". These files originated and stayed in Ilustrator CS5! If we hit OK, the type would snap back to the original state!!! Worse, if the type was copied and pasted, or anything in character or paragraph styles was edited, it would snap back without ANY warning. Now you see it... now you don't. Major problem in any print environment.
    So here is what I found, and this is a CS5 exclusive. If you are working on a file and have a font set open which includes a font from one foundry, and then opened another document and activated a font set with an identical font from a different foundry (the original font closing), the kerning for the original document (in the background now) would be set to zero (rather than auto) and the font would reflow. If you didn't notice the reflow, and saved the file, well it would create the condition as described above. Of course it isn't ideal to have the font foundry change like that, but bottom line usually you could get away with it... maybe with one or two characters moving slightly. In the new CS5 world, Illustrator decides you really don't need ANY kerning pair information and then helpfully tells you it was a "different" version of Illustrator that caused this. Heh.
    What a mess. Bottom line, make sure your font management application is set to throw warnings when conflicting fonts are opened, and most importantly, leave the original font open! Do not allow the new font to be opened until the conflict is resolved.
    If your font management application does not have this option (Universal Type Server 1 did not), you better upgrade or forget about using Illustrator CS5 in a heavy production environment.
    Adobe, this was a major change and a major headache. You have some explaining to do...

    Confirmed this is being generated entirely in CS5. I opened the font Sabon. I created a text box. I pasted in some generic type I had just made in text edit. I changed the font to Sabon and the paragraph to justify. I saved and closed the document and closed Illustrator. I closed Sabon and opened Sabon from another foundry. I opened Illustrator and opened the document. All looked good. I duplicated the text box over and outlined the type. I went into the font manager and closed Sabon. I opened the original Sabon. DING! Type reflow. I saved as a second document. I copied the outlined type and closed the document. I opened the original document (note the original font is open). No problems. I paste the outlined type (type outlined with the wrong version of the font active) and it lands exactly in place. I open the second document. The type that reflowed now gives me the stupid message about another version of Illustrator screwing it up. I hit OK and the type reflows back to the way it is supposed to be.
    This proves that the kerning changes weren't due to differences between the fonts. This proves that Illustrator CS5 has a MAJOR type engine bug that could easily spell disaster in production.

  • How can I change my Illustrator CS5 Adobe ID and password

    Hi all!
    I am having problems to share my screen from Illustrator CS5 since I lost my password. Everytime I try to share my screen I am having the same message "An internal error occurred. Please try again." over and over. I have tried everything they suggest at the forums without success I think the only way would be changing my Adobe ID FROM or inside = Illustrator CS5 and clean the old password and ID...any suggestions?
    Please help I am desperate!
    THANK YOU!

    The Connect Now feature is not part of Creative Cloud so this is not quite the right form for the question.
    The Connect Now feature in Illustrator CS5 is a part of the www.acrobat.com family of services. Are you abel to log into http://connectnow.acrobat.com directly from your browser?
    If you need to change the password for that AdobeID than you can do that at this URL: https://www.adobe.com/go/membership

  • In Illustrator CS5, how do I change a single color in a rasterized image?

    In Illustrator CS5, I have a rasterized image arranged in front of a blue rectangle on a page that is otherwise blank (screenshot below).  The rasterized image has exactly 4 colors.  I want to change the light grey color to green.  How can I do so?
    (Among other things, I have tried to copy-and-paste and export the full page and the rasterized image into Photoshop CS5, but every method that I have tried appears to resample the rasterized image, changing the pixelation and creating many more colors, effects that I do not want.)
    Thanks for any help.

    AdVictoriam,
    Illy is very helpful, but she is no more able to deal with single pixels in a raster image than the rest of us.
    Is it really impossible to export the image (as PNG24) and open it in Photoshop, then recolour the grey pixels there?

  • Why are my fonts in different groups in Illustrator CS5?

    I am running Illustrator CS5 on a Laptop PC. I am constantly installing new fonts to work on customer projects...
    I have noticed that sometimes the fonts appear in the font list in alphabetical order, and sometimes they appear either towards the top or bottom (not in order), or they are in a completely separate grouping at the bottom of the list. Is there any fix for this? I'd prefer that they all be in Alphabetical order if possible...
    Thanks in advance for any help,
    Scott. F.

    Check the font prefs and the various text-cnetric panels' options. this happenes when you choose to group by English name, but the font is encoded for a different region/ uses a different set of characters.
