Illustrator CS5 font issues with OS 10.10 (Yosemite)

After installing OS 10.10 (Yosemite) the font pull-downs do not display the names of the fonts--only the symbol for the font, i.e. Opentype, etc. I've tried emptying the font caches in Illustrator, but to no avail. Anyone else having this problem?

Go to System Preferences/Display and check the box that says Reduce Transparency.

  • Illustrator CS5 font issue

I know this is a quirky issue, but I'm hoping someone can help me solve it.
I just bought Illustrator CS5 for Windows last week. Prior to installing it, I had a full set of Myriad Pro variations on my system. Those included Semibold Condensed and Semibold Condensed Italic, plus Semibold Black and Semibold Black Italic.
After installing Illustrator CS5 with its default settings, the four variations above were no longer on my system. Opening older files using them in Photoshop CS4 gave me an error message that the fonts weren't found.
I see that Illustrator CS5 came with some fonts, including some members of the Myriad Pro family - but not these 4.
I'm wondering what happened to my previous fonts. And I'm also wondering where I got them originally. I have Photoshop CS4, InDesign CS4, Dreamweaver CS4 and Acrobat 9 Pro all installed on my system. But I checked the discs for all of those and these 4 faces weren't on any of them. I know I didn't buy them separately. But I can't figure out where I got them so that I can reinstall them.
Does anyone who why they would have disappeared with the installation of Illustrator CS5? And do these 4 come standard with some Adobe program that I may have installed but haven't checked?
I know it's weird but it's making me crazy. I've used these quite often and have several existing files that need them.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I was thinking the same thing about the legitimacy of the fonts. These are just a single .otf file download. I don't see those files free anywhere else, so I'm thinking they're either knockoffs or illegal downloads. But the .otf file properties say "Authors Robert Slimbach and Carol Twombly. Copyright 2000 Adobe Systems, Inc. Myriad is a registered trademark of Adobe Systems." I'm just not going to take a chance. Probably turn my computer into a pumpkin!
Thanks to everyone for the help.
P.S. I mistyped the face names in the original message. They are actually Semibold Condensed and Semibold Condensed Italic, plus Black Condensed and Black Condensed Italic. Looks like they're available on Adobe's site.

  • Font issue with left sidebar in Mail

I'm having perhaps another/different font issue with Mail after updating to Snow Leopard.
I do have a Dell 24" LCD hooked up to my MBP. I've noticed the comments/links related to the font smoothing issues. I've played around with that with no noticeable change.
Check out the before & after pics. Anyone have thoughts?

Same issue here whenever I'm using a different color profile. Only the default color profile seems to work properly with the new sidebar in mail.

  • Odd font issue with Safari, iWeb

Ok, so I've been having this odd font issue with Safari for quite a while now, and I haven't been able to fix it. Some text on several different websites come up in a different font than the default font for Safari. I've tried changing the default font to something else, changing the text encoding and nothing. This has been happening with several releases of Safari.
Now, last night I discovered the same thing is happening with iWeb. Some of the text fields come up with the same font as the one in Safari! I don't even know which font it is. So somehow these are linked.
I'm at work right now, but I can get a screen shot of the font once I get home.
Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Hi Tom, thanks for the response. I tried searching for those two fonts in my font book and they weren't in there. See below for screen shots of the odd text I'm getting:
    iWeb
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    Safari
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If anyone can help resolve I'd greatly appreciate it. As much as I like Safari, this odd font makes me close Safari after a few mins of browsing =\

  • Font issue with Safari

I've read of others having font issues with Safari 5.1 and Lion, but I still have Snow Leopard and am having an issue with some fonts showing as a block of As. This occurred when I set up Suitcase Fusion 3, but I did not touch any system fonts. I was able to solve part of the issue with activating Arial in the font manager, but some areas still do not reveal font, most notably, areas marked for username/password on forms. Any ideas?  Btw, I do not seem to have a problem in Chrome or Firefox.

Thanks, Carolyn. I use a third party font manager but disabling it is not an answer for me. I put some fonts back into the user folder (never touched the fonts in the system library) and resolved SOME of the "A" issues, but not all. I have no problem in Chrome or Firefox. I've tried multiple solutions in the past couple days, including this fix for sandboxing conflict http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20087102-263/webkit-sandboxing-conflict-cau ses-safari-block-a-font-problem/ but then I got permission errors when I tried to change the file. I'm not even running Lion and I'm having this issue.

  • I am having font issues with font book. It validates the font, yet it is not availabe in my software programs (Adobe  or Microsoft). What can I do to use these fonts?

I am having font issues with font book. It validates the font, yet it is not availabe in my software programs (Adobe  or Microsoft). What can I do to use these fonts?
I actually created these fonts with fontagrapher in 1998 and have been using them regularly ever since and now they are not available in InDesign. I really need to use them.

I found a page on Adobe, Troubleshoot fonts | Mac OS X
On PostScript type 1 fonts you need to copy/move the fonts to the correct font folder because Font Book doesn't copy them into the folder. Select the fonts double-click the fonts and Find in the font Book app and validate.
The correct font folder depends how you are set up. I am by myself so my font folder was MyHarddrive/Library/Fonts. I was using Suitcas fusion and the fonts are located in a different folder.
Most of the fonts have worked. Go to
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-fonts-mac-os-x.html
    This should help. Good Luck.

  • Fontographer PS fonts issue with Yosemite

I have created a number of PS fonts (.otf) with Fontagrapher 5. They have been working flawlessly ever since on my MacBook Air (mid 2012) 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
Since moving yesterday from Mavericks to Mac OS X Yosemite, things are terrible. All fonts created with Fontographer are not displaying and printing correctly …. my 6 indian music books and numerous documents  in hindi/english diacritical are thus unusable. I tried with Nisus Writer Pro, Text Edit and Mellel to no avail.
Checking with the Apple software FontBook, it says all my Fontographer Fonts are « usable » (green ok check) and that there is no conflict/problem. To be sure, I removed all factory fonts which could potentially make problems (orange warning), rebooted the Mac but, despite that, nothing works properly. Fonts are incredibly SCRETCHED on display (space between characters is huge) and some of them don't print as they are displayed. I also naturally updated the printer  (Xerox Work Center 6605 DN) driver to the latest Yosemite compatible version (oct.16, 2014) but that doesn't change anything. I also tried different ways of making pdf from the different word processors but the same thing occured on pdf.
Please, kindly check and inquire about this important issue with Apple fonts experts. Number of us, using Fontographer Fonts, must be facing the same incompatibility with Yosemite.
Please do let me know what I can do to solve the problem. I don't even know how I can downgrade to Maverick yet.
Thanking you in advance for a quick reply
    Patrick MOUTAL

Well, Kurt Lang did solve my problem and I won't ever be enough thankful to him. He tried one of my font and took the time to examine it with FontLab Studio. In case other persons experiment the same type of troubles, I am pasting the mail I got (along with the corrected font) for info :
    Hi Patrick,
I did find one issue in particular. OpenType fonts should have a UTM setting of 1000. These were at 2048. So I changed those and had FontLab Studio rebuild the names (I just let it do its thing).
The originals you had sent wouldn’t even appear in Office 2011. The rebuilt ones do, though for whatever reason, bold italic won’t show. However, you can click the italic and bold buttons and the correct font is used. Otherwise, the new fonts all work as expected in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, TextEdit and others. I tested them in both Mavericks and Yosemite.
Can’t guarantee success, but give these a shot.
    Kurt
That guy is an angel. He spent a tremendous amount of time examining, testing on Mavericks and Yosemite and on several apps until resolving the problem. Too helpful, too nice and too competent. That's a treat.

  • Anyone know if Illustrator CS5.5 works with four monitors without crashing?

I just recently replaced my two AMD HD5850 graphic cards with a single HD7970.
In my previous system configuration I had a total of four monitors (3 connected to one HD5850, and the fourth monitor to the secondary HD5850 card)
This setup worked great, and I had no issues with Illustrator or any other CS 5.0 applications.
Now when I have replaced my two HD5850 cards with a single HD7970 card, all four monitors are connected to the same card, and now I can't start Illustrator anymore without an app crash.
First I had no idea what was going on, and suspected an AMD Catalyst driver bug, but then I found some interesting information here in the forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/855150#3693345
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/878/cpsid_87838.html
It seems like Illustrator crash if you have your main monitor set to a number greater than 3, and for some reason, my main monitor has been fixed with number 4 of 4 (and there seems to be no way in h#ll it can be changed).
So now, each time I want to use Illustrator CS5.0, I have to first disable one of my monitors, which of course is very frustrating.
    So now to my questions
    1. Will Adobe ever fix this bug as an update for CS5 users?
    2. Does CS5.5 still have this bug? If not I might go ahead and upgrade, but only if someone can confirm that it has been fixed in CS5.5
    Thanks!
    /Magnus

    1. Will Adobe ever fix this bug as an update for CS5 users?
Probably not. With CS6 being something like 4 months away (presumably), you can do your own probability math as to how much interest Adobe may even have to fix this or how many resources they are spending at it. Anyway, not a priority item to be sure, given that there probably are only 0.05% of all AI users even using 4 screens and 2% may be using 3 screens....
    2. Does CS5.5 still have this bug?
CS5.5 (or more appropriately CS5.1) is the same as CS5

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 - Fonts not found

We are changing our user from a Mac to a Windows (7) based computer and we are running in to issues with files that she created on the Mac version of Adobe Illustrator. She used some fonts (AGaramond-BoldItalic for example) and it works great on the Mac. I copied all the font files to the windows computer and made sure they work (opened Illustrator and created a document with the fonts).
The issue now is that when we open the old documents from the Mac on the Windows computer it gives an error "Font not found on the system; missing font has been substituted."
I am not sure how to tell the file that the fonts Are there because when it opens all the fonts are to a default Arial.
    So far I have tried:
    Removing all Adobefnt*.lst files
Resetting adobe settings by holding ctrl+alt+shift and opening the program
Testing the file on a brand new user account
    uninstall and reinstall the program
    None of these have worked.

There are more cache files than the adobefnt files.  See here for more detailed instructions on cleaning your font caches. That said, it sounds likely that the issue is that your fonts are mac only, as Larry said above.  You should be able to use Type -> Find Font... to replace them with whatever version you have on the PC but watch for formatting/flow changes.  Also, my condolences to your designer. ;-)

  • Font issues with InDesign CC

I've been happily producing a monthly trade magazine for years with InDesign CS5.5 V 7.5.3. No problems. Last month I started using InDesign CC. First sign of trouble was that, when I sent the proof (pdf made with Acrobat XI Pro), to the client, many of the headlines (Calibri) would only partially print, or wouldn't print at all. Then, when the magazine went to the commercial printer (packaged from InDesign CC and with an IDML), many (not all) of the text (Palatino Linotype) ran together and stories were short, leaving white space. It was a disaster! (Fortunately, the client proofed it before presstime, so they took the blame.) What's the problem here?

Here it is January 2015 and I have font problems with Adobe CC. Been using apps and Font Book for years without font troubles, and since I started using Adobe CC, every single day I have an issue. Specifically, just now, working in InDesign: I have been using postscript fonts for Franklin Gothic forever. Some of them disappeared from my font list, so when I opened a document using them, they are shaded pink. I found Franklin Gothic URW in typekit and loaded those. Changed all my fonts to fonts from that set, yet I still get error messages. When I open Find Font, I see three FranklinGothic-Medium in the list with yellow warning signs. If I select one, Replace with the comparable in the FranklinGothic URW family, the Change All button is shaded and I can't select it. And then when I try to save as pdf, I get a Font Missing warning. And this has happened with other font families, so not specific to Franklin Gothic.
    So frustrating.

  • [Help] Genius F610 + Adobe Illustrator CS5 = pressure issues

    Hey folks!
So I bought Genius F610 (newest drivers from genius web installed), iMac OSX 10.5.8 and Illustrator CS5
Pen pressure is working in Photoshop just fine and in Illustrator it only works with Wacom 6D brushes with my custom made and predefined when I try to edit them it is greyed out as it is calligraphic brush also.
    Can anybody help with this?

I had the same issue, Mylenium where is this notion of flaky emulation? Genius produce their own products, as it turns out my solutions proves that this seems to be an issue with illustrator where it directly supports only wacom drivers, which is obviously a software issue, it should support any pressure pen devices. Besides why does it work with photoshop ? perhaps adobe should directly support certain mouse products too then.
anyway heres the solution, make sure you have the latest driver from Genius,
Then just go to the wacom site and download/install the Wireless Pen Tablet: ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/Mac/cons525-3_int.dmg
    Tested on Mac OS Lion
    With Genius G Pen F610
Latest genius driver, think its 2.8 for the mac

  • Acrobat presets in Illustrator CS5 causing issues

When I created my PDF presets in Illustrator CS5.5., they were working fine until recently. I have files that I save as PDF's in Illustrator CS5.5.1 and either place the files in our templates in Illustrator, or a simple step and repaet of one vector art Ill. file 2 up. The issue is when I view the files in Acrobat X and the files are shifted or the second image of the step file won't show up. If I go back into the master files and do another save as for PDF it shows the CUSTOM setting at the top not my preset, so I select the preset (i made) again and it will work. Is this an Acrobat issue or an Illustrator issue? I reinstalled Illustrator, and deleted my old PDF settings and made new ones and that seemed to help for about 4 hours, and now I'm back to the same issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's an issue with the shared PDF stuff in newer versions of Acrobat. There's realy no fix for this misbehavior, it's more or less a "hard" compatibility issue.

  • Font Issue with Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office

I have been using this toolkit for only a few days now, but I just have to get this issue off my back. When developing a toolkit it would be a good idea to use the same cluster to represent fonts in ALL places. If you look at "Excel Set Graph Font" vs. "Excel Easy Table" they take two completely different clusters. Why? I don't know, but it is *very* annoying.
How could something like this slip through the cracks? Is there some reason why there is this discrepancy? From my perspective as a software engineer I see no excuse, but maybe someone else can justify this oversight for me. I just hope that I don't find any more issues with the toolkit...
    Naveen.

    Naveen,
what you said is true when dealing with same kind of objects, but in this circumstance, different cluster defines the font of a differnt object. For example, you may not want the user have as many options with defining the font for the X Y axis title as that for defining the text in the table. This is ture when you want your generated report to have similiar styles.
But this is certainly something we will think about, thanks for your constructive suggestion,

  • Fonts issue with Photoshop CS2

I'm not sure if my thread in the right forum, but I'm really having an issue with the fonts. It started when I installed MS Office for Mac, Safari was having problems with the fonts. So I referred to one of the posts in the Discussions and I used Font Finagler 0.5.3 to remove the cache fonts, and I deleted few fonts from Font Book, and deleting the fonts solved my issue with Safari. I'm not using Office any more, As I deleted the software.
Now, I've Installed Photoshop CS2, update it with the latest updates available. But I'm having an issue with the fonts! The issue is affecting only the Palette Names in the Palette Well, where the font size seems to be larger than its corresponding tab.
In order to fix the problem, I tried to temporary remove the Fonts folder from the library, restart my MAC, but nothing happen, except error messages of missing fonts in iWork!
I'm wondering if anyone has faced similar problem, or if there is any solution for such an issue.
    Kind Regards

  • Illustrator cs5 selecting issue in mountain lion

I'm having a strange issue using illustrator cs5 after updating to mountain lion. I have a line of text that I rotated and copied several times so it resembles an asterisc shape * (3 lines of type fanned out over a central point). When I select 1 line of type, 2 or more lines are selecting. It happens even if I try to click in an empty area of the file (white space). The kicker is that it even happens in outline view (even in the white space). Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Not sure what is happening, but a workaround might be to put each line of type on its own layer, then lock and/or hide layers you don't want to select.
