Exporting as jpeg with use artboards adds to file name

When I export from Illustrator CS5 with "Use Artboards" checked it adds a "-01" to the end of my file name before the extention. I'm assuming that its because its artboard #1 or something. It happens with the all or the range button checked. It doesnt show the -01 when you are saving the file name. This is pretty annoying because I have to go back and re name the files when this happens. Any advice? Thanks!

Been trying to get this resolved for months with no joy. I have recently produced over 250 brand logos for a large multi national, all of which have to supplied in various formats and file types including .jpg. I too use only one artboard and since I don't want the logos cropped tight to the image, I check "use artboard" with the result that I get logoname-01.jpg on every file.
It may not seem to be too much of a sweat to then delete the offending -01 from the resulting file name, but when you have to do this repeatedly it is extremely tiresome... and so unnecessary!! I too do not want, or need, to append the file name with anything at all.
I really am at a loss to know why, if i have one artboard (AND ONLY ONE) it has to have a number at all. With 2 or more artboards, sure, it may be useful to identify each, but with 1... that is it, that is all there is. The only one. One of one. No more, no less. Very little chance of confusion i would have thought!
So, Adobe can we have a radio button (or preference) along the lines of: "add pasteboard number" or "remove pasteboard number" or perhaps a more enlightened soul at Adobe can respond with a workaround (unlikely, it is Adobe after all!).

What font? What system? What Glyph? What language settings? Could be anything. Either way, ask in the AI forum. You'll get quicker answers there - if you provide all the required info.

Illustrator CS5 arrow exported in svg 1.1

Hi all,
it looks to me that an arrow created in Illustrator CS5 and exported in a svg 1.1 file is later recognized as a stroke+triangle (two disconnected objects).
It just want to make sure that I did not miss anything. The option "preserve Illustrator editing capabilities" is not checked since I want to open the svg file in Inkscape.

SVG is an exchange file format, not a native file format, so stuff may be expanded when saving into SVG. Not every program treats stuff the same way.

Illustrator CS5 javascript JPEG export 300 DPI & max quality

I new to Illustrator CS5 scripting (javascript) and I'm trying to export an .eps to .jpg. With image quality 8 and DPI 300.
I've seen several post asking about this (only a few with answers). Those answer aren't working for me though.
I also found this post saying that it can't be done (http://forums.adobe.com/message/1103680) but it's pretty old.
When I run the script I have it saves with a DPI of 96 which is higher than the minimum mentioned in the post above.

You'll have to reduce the size of the resulting image file to achieve resolution you want. I just did something similar and the file was as expected 416.67% larger than the original. When reduced to 24% of the size, the resolution is 300 ppi.

Anyone know if Illustrator CS5.5 works with four monitors without crashing?

I just recently replaced my two AMD HD5850 graphic cards with a single HD7970.
In my previous system configuration I had a total of four monitors (3 connected to one HD5850, and the fourth monitor to the secondary HD5850 card)
This setup worked great, and I had no issues with Illustrator or any other CS 5.0 applications.
Now when I have replaced my two HD5850 cards with a single HD7970 card, all four monitors are connected to the same card, and now I can't start Illustrator anymore without an app crash.
First I had no idea what was going on, and suspected an AMD Catalyst driver bug, but then I found some interesting information here in the forum.

It seems like Illustrator crash if you have your main monitor set to a number greater than 3, and for some reason, my main monitor has been fixed with number 4 of 4 (and there seems to be no way in h#ll it can be changed).
So now, each time I want to use Illustrator CS5.0, I have to first disable one of my monitors, which of course is very frustrating.
So now to my questions
1. Will Adobe ever fix this bug as an update for CS5 users?
2. Does CS5.5 still have this bug? If not I might go ahead and upgrade, but only if someone can confirm that it has been fixed in CS5.5

Probably not. With CS6 being something like 4 months away (presumably), you can do your own probability math as to how much interest Adobe may even have to fix this or how many resources they are spending at it. Anyway, not a priority item to be sure, given that there probably are only 0.05% of all AI users even using 4 screens and 2% may be using 3 screens....
2. Does CS5.5 still have this bug?
CS5.5 (or more appropriately CS5.1) is the same as CS5

Illustrator CS5 document opening with pdf prompt in CS4

When opening a Illustrator CS5 document in CS4 I am getting the following dialog box. The CS5 document consists of 9 artboards in this example, and when loaded in CS4, only allows you to choose one at a time as in the image, and only shows one in the opened document for editing. What have I done wrong when I saved it? I didn't save it as a CS4 document. I want it to open as normal so that all the artboards in view, and are editable.

That's an oximoron as in mutually exclusive. Artboards work differently between CS5 and CS4 and as Scott already mentioned, unless you save down to the old version, there is no way to retain all data editably.

Illustrator CS5 Unexpectedly Quits when use Hotkey's

Hello,
Does anyone have an issue when using hotkey's in Illustrator CS5? Every time I switch using a hotkey, my Illustrator unexpectedly quits. It is a paid student edition.

Well the app should not be crashing simply using tool shortcuts.
First thing to try would be trash the prefenceses file.
Quit Illustrator.
Go to Users/[your account]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings/en_US/ and drag the "Adobe Illustrator Prefs" file to your desktop.
Then relaunch Illustrator and see if the problem is fixed.
If it's fixed, simply trash the file on yoru desktop.
If it's not fixed you may need to look into an OS issue by logging in as a new user and trying it, or booting into Safe Mode (hold shift while booting system) to see if that fixes the issue.

Illustrator cs6: pdf export with hks colours creates b/w pdf...

i have a illu cs6 document with 2 hks colours and black. with »save as...« i want to create a printable pdf. but this pdf only has black-and-white, no hks, no colours.
then i changed the hks to cmyk. now the export as pdf works with the cmyk colours.
help, please, whats wrong?

Try using the PDF/x-4 preset. If an all CMYK PDF is required, set the Color Conversion to Convert to Destination, and the Destination to Document CMYK.

Illustrator CS5 font issues with OS 10.10 (Yosemite)

After installing OS 10.10 (Yosemite) the font pull-downs do not display the names of the fonts--only the symbol for the font, i.e. Opentype, etc. I've tried emptying the font caches in Illustrator, but to no avail. Anyone else having this problem?

Go to System Preferences/Display and check the box that says Reduce Transparency.

How to set "Image Map" attribute to "Polygon" via javascript in Illustrator CS5

Ok, so I have this little script I've written that I want to use to go through a bunch of paths in a document and give each path a url for use in an image map. I want each link to be a Polygon because, well, let's face it, "Rectangle" is useless 99% of the time. Obviously, the way you would do this manually would be to open the Attributes panel and set the Image Map attribute to Polygon and type a URL in the URL field. Fine. Easy enough. However, when scripting the process, it seems one can only set the URL (or the uRL [sic] as documented in the javascript reference) of the PathItem. In other words:
pathItem.uRL = "http://someurlfor.me";
Unfortunately, this defaults the "Image Map" attribute to "Rectangle" (which we already know is useless 99% of the time.) SO, anyone out there know how to change that attribute to "Polygon?"
Btw, I'm on Illustrator CS5 and have been using this reference:

We found that with the following setting, the problem is almost solved :
theme.setQueryWindowMultiplier(1);
theme.enableAutoWholeImage(true);
We still have a problem : a portion of the base map appears black most of the time, on Blackberry only (Opera Mini) ... like 1/5 of the map ... the right side ... any idea ?

Trouble with Illustrator CS5 Trial Installation on Mac

Hi Everyone,
I am trying to install the trial version of Illustrator CS5. I am using the Adobe Download Assistant and it has produced an error.
The error is number 4960 and it says that the disk image for Illustrator could not be opened.
If anyone could help me with this, that would be great!

Nickyonmac111 error 4960 is a Mac OS error indicating your DMG file is corrupted. I would recommend you remove the Adobe Download Assistant and try the download again. You might also want to try saving to a different location when prompted.

Illustrator CS5: Slow to save documents

Hi! I'm Christ, new to Adobe forums!
We have someone using Illustrator CS5, and working with file from 10mb to 500mb, most of the time. The problem is that, when you open, okay it's slow since it's a file over the network (400mb), but when you save it, network or not, it is VERY but VERY slow. I mean, you click on save, then save the file, then Illustrator does the program not responding, then you wait, about 15s, and the little window that show the progress comes up. You wait after this progress bar for like 30-40s. It does the same thing, kind same time, for a 100mb file.
One of my friend told me he has the same problem, but he never had that problem with CS2 illustrator.
Our computer:
Intel E8400 3ghz
4gb of RAM
HDD 160gb 7200rpm
Windows XP SP3 up to date (we did try on the same machine, but with a windows 7, same problem)
Friend computer:
AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.9ghz
4gb of RAM
HDD 500gb 7200rpm
Windows XP SP3 up to date (Does on 2 computer with same spec) (on CS2, was not that long, with a AMD Athlon X2 4200+, and 3gb of ram)

Illustrator CS5 crashing frequently

Illustrator crashes EXTREMELY FREQUENTLY on Mac OS X since upgrading to CS5.
DO NOT BUY CS5 UNTIL THEY RELEASE A SERVICE PACK IF YOU'RE ON A MAC!!!!!!!!

CS5 crashs frequently, depending on what I'm working on. Files with large placed PSD images cause the most problems. The other modules of CS5 that I use, Photoshop and Indesign are rock solid and I'm very pleased with them but Illustrator CS5 is painful to use. Operations that cause the most problems are saving, placing images and pasting images, usually images of 200 MB or larger. When an operation appears to hang, I open the Force Quit dialog and if it says Illustrator is not responding I Force Quit and restart the program. My system is a 2x2.26 Quad Core Mac Pro with 16 GB of RAM.
Illustrator was the first Adobe program that I learned to use and it was a joy in the early days but it has become less so as time goes on. I appreciate the new features but the things that make a program fun are stability and speed, not features per se. The programmers, as brilliant as they obviously are, have lost this perspective on what they are doing. Illustrator should be a workhorse, not a delicate flower.

Final cut pro problem when exporting with quicktime movie

I must have som help beacuse my musicmovie must be finsihed untill today. I have a movie their i had used filters like colour correction and interlace. When i export with USING QUICKTIME CONVERSION and have

bitrate 6000
faster encode
size 1920x1080 HD 16:9
its not a problem the movie works fine all the way.
But when i export with QUICKTIME MOVIE it dosent work. Some clips are frozen and some are beeing misscoloured. None of them have interlace. Its the same clips that dosent work everytime i had export with QM. I have tried to replace these clips but the same thing is happening. I dont understand why i cant use quicktime movie but it works with quicktime conversion.
If you have an e-mail i can send you just the part where this happening.

I am also expriencing the same error. Tried every solution listed so far:
1. Switch off background rendering. Trash render files. Don't render. Export.
2. copying the project within Final Cut Pro into another project
3. remove the following folder: Library > Application Support > ProApps > MIO > RADPlugins > XDCAMFormat.RADPlug
Nothing worked. I try to export to Vimeo, YouTube, and master. All error right at 9%
What's going on?
